परिचय

    आज से हम एक नई शृंखला का आरंभ कर रहे हैं, एक ऐसे विषय के बारे में जो व्यवहारिक मसीही जीवन के एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण पहलू से संबंधित है। मसीही जीवन का यह पहलू कभी-न-कभी सभी को चिंतित करता है, सभी के सामने प्रश्न-चिह्न उठाता है, सभी को इसके वाजिब और स्वीकार्य उत्तर के विषय असमंजस रहता है। साथ ही इसे समझना भी बहुत अनिवार्य है, क्योंकि इसे ठीक से समझे बिना, मसीही विश्वास का जीवन जी पाना कठिन होगा; शैतान बारंबार बहका और भरमा कर कर्मों के द्वारा धार्मिकता होने के फंदे में ले जाता और फँसता रहेगा। किन्तु यदि हम इसकी वास्तविकता को समझ लें, और इसे सही दृष्टिकोण से देखना आरंभ कर दें, तो जिसे शैतान हमारे मसीही विश्वास के जीवन के लिए फंदा बनाना चाहता है, वही हमारे मसीही विश्वास के जीवन के लिए एक दृढ़ता और स्थिरता का कारण हो सकता, हमें शैतान द्वारा बहकाए जाने और अविश्वास तथा अनाज्ञाकारिता में फँसाए जाने से बचने का आधार बन सकता है। जैसा कि इस शृंखला के मुख्य शीर्षक से प्रगट है, यह विषय है परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था, और मसीही विश्वास के जीवन में व्यवस्था का स्थान, महत्व, उपयोगिता और व्यवस्था के प्रति सही दृष्टिकोण रखना; तथा क्यों उद्धार, पाप क्षमा, और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होना, परमेश्वर के साथ हमारा मेल-मिलाप हो जाना, व्यवस्था या कर्मों के द्वारा नहीं हैं।

    बहुत से लोगों के लिए यह एक विरोधाभास की बात है कि जब व्यवस्था भी उसी परमेश्वर के द्वारा दी गई, जो प्रभु यीशु के रूप में देहधारी होकर पृथ्वी पर आया और सभी के उद्धार के लिए बलिदान हुआ; तथा मसीह के बलिदान से पहले परमेश्वर के लोगों, इस्राएलियों, के लिए धार्मिकता का, परमेश्वर के निकट आने का, परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने, आदि का आधार व्यवस्था का पालन करना था; तो फिर अब मनुष्य व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा धर्मी और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य क्यों नहीं माना जा सकता है? मसीह के आने और बलिदान होने के बाद व्यवस्था का क्या महत्व और उपयोगिता है? क्या अब पुराने नियम की धार्मिकता व्यर्थ हो गई है? ऐसे विचार रखना, व्यवस्था और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य धार्मिकता की ठीक समझ न रखने के कारण हैं, और शैतान इन विचारों को उकसा के, और बढ़ा के, परमेश्वर के वचन में अविश्वास उत्पन्न करने के प्रयास करता है। किन्तु वास्तविकता यही है कि उद्धार और प्रभु यीशु के बलिदान को ठीक से समझने के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई व्यवस्था को ठीक से समझना और जानना आवश्यक है।

    इस विषय को हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में से मुख्यतः पाँच शीर्षकों के अन्तर्गत देखेंगे; ये शीर्षक हैं:  (1) “भला” क्या और कौन है; इसके लिए मानक (criteria) क्या हैं? (2) जिस व्यवस्था के पालन की बात की जा रही है, वह क्या है? (3) परमेश्वर द्वारा व्यवस्था को दिए जाने का उद्देश्य क्या था? (4) व्यवस्था का पालन क्यों हमें उद्धार नहीं दे सकता है? (5) यह उद्धार प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही में क्यों है, और किसी में क्यों नहीं?

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Relationship Between the Law and Salvation in the Bible

Introduction

    From today we are beginning a new series about a topic that deals with a very important aspect of practical Christian life. This aspect of the Christian life at some time or the other does worry everyone, raises questions for everyone, and people are often confused about reasonable and acceptable answers regarding the matter. At the same time, it is also very important to understand this, because without understanding it properly, it will be difficult to live the life of the Christian faith. Satan will repeatedly try to deceive us and lead us astray, to make us fall into the trap of becoming righteous through works. But if we understand the reality, and start looking at the issue from the right perspective, then what Satan tries to make a snare for our Christian life, will become the basis of a strong firm standing and stability for our Christian life, will help us avoid being seduced and misled by Satan, and keep us from getting entangled in unbelief and disobedience. As the main title of this series reveals, the topic is The Law of God, and its place, importance, utility in the life of Christian faith, and having a right perspective about the law; why salvation, forgiveness of sins, and becoming acceptable to God, being reconciled with God are not through the law.

    For many people it seems to be a contradiction that when the Law was given by the same God who became flesh and came to earth as Lord Jesus, to sacrifice His life for the salvation of everyone; and when, before the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, for the people of God, the Israelites, the basis of righteousness, coming near to God, being pleasing and acceptable to God, etc. were all through the observance of the Law; then why is it that now, after the coming of Christ and His sacrificing Himself, one cannot be considered as righteous and acceptable to God through the observance of the Law? After the coming and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus, what is the importance and utility of the Law? Has the Old Testament righteousness become vain? These, and other such thoughts are because of not having a proper understanding of the Law and of being acceptable to God, and Satan promotes and encourages such thinking, to bring doubts and unbelief about the Word of God. But the fact is that salvation and the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus can only be understood by having a correct understanding and knowledge of the Law given by God.

    We'll look at this topic in God's Word, the Bible, under mainly five headings; These headings are: (1) What and who is “good”; What are the criteria for this? (2) What is The Law that is being talked about? (3) What was the purpose of God's giving of The Law? (4) Why can't the keeping of The Law save us? (5) Why is salvation only in the Lord Jesus Christ, and why not in anyone else?

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    परमेश्वर ने अपनी बुद्धिमानी में निर्धारित किया है कि कलीसियाओं में केवल पुरुष ही आत्मिक शिक्षा देने का अधिकार रखेंगे। इसका यह अर्थ कदापि नहीं है कि पुरुष बेहतर शिक्षक होते हैं, या स्त्रियाँ कम बुद्धिमानी वाली या कम दर्जे की होती हैं। यह तो केवल इसलिए है क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने स्त्री और पुरुष की उनके गुणों और योग्यताओं में कुछ भिन्नताओं के साथ सृष्टि की है; और इसी के अनुसार कलीसियाओं का प्रबंधन और संचालन निर्धारित किया है। जैसे पुरुषों को अपने जीवनों एवं शब्दों के द्वारा आत्मिक नेतृत्व को प्रदर्शित करना है, ठीक उसी प्रकार स्त्रियों को भी ऐसे ही उदाहरण बनकर दिखाना है, किन्तु कुछ भिन्न रीति से (1 पतरस 3:1-6)। उन्हें केवल कलीसिया में पुरुषों पर अधिकार रखने से मना किया गया है। इस आधार पर वे कलीसिया में पास्टर भी नहीं हो सकती हैं। लेकिन इससे किसी भी रीति से स्त्रियाँ कम महत्व की नहीं हो जाती हैं; वरन यह केवल उनकी सेवकाई को एक भिन्न क्षेत्र की ओर, जिसके लिए परमेश्वर ने उन्हें बनाया और तैयार किया है, केन्द्रित करने के लिए है।

According to the Bible, Do Women Have the Permission to Serve as Pastors and Preach from the Pulpit in the Church?

 

Part 16 – Conclusions

 

    Having considered and analyzed the topic “According to the Bible, Do Women Have the Permission to Serve as Pastors and Preach from the Pulpit in the Church?”, and also having considered and analyzed the various arguments given by people in favor of the topic in detail, on the basis of the information given in God’s Word the Bible about it, the overall conclusion is that there is nothing in God’s Word that can actually and honestly be used to justify this notion.

    Many times, it is not possible to understand each and every instruction or commandment given by the Lord God. But even if the instruction or commandment is inexplicable, whether or not we understand it, but obedience to the Lord means obeying that instruction or commandment, in any case. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son (Genesis 22:1-3), would he have understood why God was asking him to do it? After Peter had struggled the whole night to catch fish, and caught nothing, would he have understood why the Lord was asking him to cast the net again in a particular direction (Luke 5:5)? These, and many other similar examples in the Bible can neither be understood nor explained by human wisdom and logic. But the results and blessings that followed the obedience are a proof that obeying God is the best course of action, and all other things eventually lead to harm and loss.

    As has been pointed out earlier, at the beginning of this series, God has given women also many gifts, which they are to use in many ways ordained for them by God, and often in ways that men can never use similar gifts. Gifts of hospitality, compassion, mercy, etc. are those where women often do much better than men. God’s Word does not restrict women in the church from public praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:5). The Bible nowhere restricts women from receiving or exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are all Born Again Believers, irrespective of gender or any other criteria (1 Corinthians 12; Acts 2:17-18). The demonstration of the fruit of the Spirit in the life of Believers (Galatians 5:22–23) is not restricted only to men, but is for both men and women. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3–5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. So, why should women feel inferior or deprived of anything from God? To create such an impression amongst them is just a satanic ploy to mislead into harm and loss.

    God in His wisdom, has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the Church. This does not imply men are better teachers or that women are inferior or less intelligent. It is simply the way God created men and women with some difference in characteristics and attributes, for different purposes; and has set the functioning of His Church. Just as men are to set the example in spiritual leadership—in their lives and through their words, similarly women are also to set an example in their lives, but in a different way (1 Peter 3:1-6). The only restriction is about having spiritual teaching authority over men in the Church. This bars women from serving as pastors to men. But this does not make women less important, by any means; rather, it only gives them a ministry focused in a different area, as God has designed it for them.

    There are two main hidden reasons for some women wanting to preach in the Churches and become Pastors – actually satanic traps of disobeying God’s Word, into which he has enticed and trapped some, without their realizing what has been done to them. The first is getting name and fame, and the feeling of having acquired a status in the congregation, that comes through preaching in the Church. They want to show-off their Bible knowledge and preaching abilities before the people, get the attention, praise, and honor from people, unlike the example that the Lord Jesus set (John 5:41), even if it means disobeying God and His Word, rejecting the honor that God would have given them for obeying Him (John 5:44). The second is to hold power and authority over men through having it in the Church. In today’s Church management, the Pastor has a lot of control and authority over the local congregation. Also, becoming a Pastor is the first step to getting promoted and then rising to positions of greater power and authority in the Church management hierarchy. As the appearance and attraction of the fruit enticed and seduced Eve to commit sin, similarly this lust for power and authority over others provokes them into disobeying God and His Word. Therefore, instead of simply accepting a straightforward instruction from God, some women and their supporters, merely to satisfy their ego and to prove themselves right, justify themselves, they manipulate the Word of God, trim and twist it to try to make it fit into seeming to justify their desires, they add many vain logics and arguments into it, and disobey God. But it makes no sense to gain appreciation and honor from people, temporal power and authority for some time, but lose out on eternal rewards and blessings for this short temporary worldly honor (Matthew 7:21-23). The real benefits are through obeying God, not through finding excuses and ways to disobey Him.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले दो सप्ताह से हम एक ऐसे विषय पर विचार करते आ रहे हैं जो ईसाई या मसीही समाज में बहुत बहस, असमंजस, और विभाजनों का विषय बना हुआ है। इस विषय पर विचार करने के लिए जो तरीका हमने अपनाया है वह परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में इसके बारे में लिखी बातों को देखना और फिर जो लोग कलीसियाओं में स्त्रियों के प्रचारक अथवा पास्टर बनने का समर्थन करते हैं, उनके तर्कों का बाइबल की बातों के आधार पर विश्लेषण करना, और देखना कि क्या उनकी धारणाओं का बाइबल से कोई समर्थन है या नहीं।

    इसके बाद हमने स्त्रियों द्वारा परमेश्वर के लोगों के मध्य प्रशासनिक एवं वचन की सेवकाई के उदाहरणों को देखा था। हमने ध्यान किया था कि पुराने नियम में केवल पुरुषों को ही याजकीय ज़िम्मेदारियाँ दी गईं थीं, कभी भी किसी भी स्त्री को नहीं, चाहे वे स्त्रियाँ याजकीय वंशजों में से ही क्यों न हों। नए नियम में भी हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि प्रभु यीशु और उसके शिष्यों के साथ कुछ स्त्रियाँ भी रहती थीं और उनकी देखभाल करती थीं, किन्तु प्रभु ने कभी भी किसी भी स्त्री को न तो प्रेरित नियुक्त किया, और न ही अन्य शिष्यों के साथ कभी किसी सेवकाई के लिए भेजा। और साथ ही आरंभिक कलीसिया में जो लोग कलीसियाओं से संबंधित विषयों पर चर्चा और निर्णय करने के लिए सभाओं में एकत्रित होते थे, उनमें कभी भी कोई भी स्त्री सम्मिलित नहीं थी, उन सभाओं में भी नहीं जिनमें स्त्रियों से संबंधित बातों पर चर्चा होती थी।

According to the Bible, Do Women Have the Permission to Serve as Pastors and Preach from the Pulpit in the Church?

Part 15 – Summary

 

For the past two weeks we have been considering a topic that has been a cause of much confusion and debate, as well as divisions in Christendom. The approach we have taken is to see what the Word of God says, and then on the basis of what is written in the Bible, consider and analyze the various arguments put forward by those who support women preaching in Churches and becoming Pastors, and see if this notion has any Biblical standing or support, or not.

    We started off by first considering Satan’s strategies. One of his strategies is to mislead people through misinterpretation of God’s Word, causing them to misunderstand and wrongfully apply its teachings. The second strategy that he often uses, and has used very effectively over here is to turn our attention to what God has not given, instead of being aware and thankful for what God has given, and using the God given things for God’s glory and our benefit. Through this strategy he makes people to feel deprived and then by make the mistake of disobeying God and coming to harm. As part of this strategy, he puts misunderstandings and doubts in people heart about this topic. We had seen that it is not that God has withheld the understanding and ministry of God’s Word from women. Just as with men, God has given women also the gift of understanding and teaching His Word; only that God has assigned women to do this ministry amongst other women and children – places and people that men cannot go and serve for this ministry.

    By turning the attention of women to do what has been assigned by God for men to do – minister in Churches as preachers, and become Pastors, Satan has beguiled people to ignore God’s gifts and instructions, to not utilize what God has given the women, and thereby be disobedient to God, and lose their blessings. Because the Bible very clearly in 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-12, forbids women from becoming preachers and Pastors in Churches. and in these passages, the reasons for this are also given by God. Moreover, there is nothing in the Bible to support the assumptions that these instructions were meant for only a particular Church of that time, or were only for women of that era, since most of the women were not literate or educated at that time. In this context we had also seen that the argument, “since women have the ability to understand, preach, and teach God’s Word, therefore, they should be allowed to do so in the Churches” is vain, since Satan too has the ability to understand, preach, and teach from God’s Word, and does so (2 Corinthians 11:3, 13-15); but this does not mean that he has God’s sanction to do so, and should be allowed to do it!

    We then considered examples from God’s Word about administrative and Word ministry by women amongst God’s people. We recalled that in the Old Testament all priestly duties were given to and carried out only by men, never by any women, not even by women of the priestly families. In the New Testament too, we had seen that though women were amongst the Lord Jesus’s followers and ministered to Him and His disciples, but the Lord never appointed any of them as Apostles, nor ever sent any of them for ministry, as He sent out His disciples. Also, in the various councils that met for deliberations in the initial Church, to sort out various issues arising in the Churches, there is no mention of any women being a part of the councils and deliberating over the issues with men, even while considering matters related to women.

    We then considered the examples of various godly women of the Old and New Testament, whose ministry examples are often misused to prove that since these women had a ministry in the Bible, therefore, this should be granted to the women now also. Through analyzing the information given in the Bible about those women, we saw that their examples, when considered purely on the basis of information given about them in the Bible, without any pre-conceived notions, and in an unbiased manner, can never rightfully be used to justify the claim that the Bible permits women to preach in the Churches, or be appointed as Pastors.

    In the next article we will come to the conclusions that we can draw from all that we have considered and analyzed regarding this topic from God’ Word so far.

    अभी तक हमने नए नियम में से चार भक्त स्त्रियों, फीबे, सामरी स्त्री, मरियम मगदलीनी, और प्रिस्किल्ला के बारे में देखा है, जिन्हें बहुधा इस धारणा को सही दिखाने के लिए कि स्त्रियों को कलीसियाओं में प्रचार करने और पास्टर बनने की अनुमति है, उदाहरण के लिए उपयोग किया जाता है। किन्तु उनके बारे में परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गई जानकारी का विश्लेषण करने पर हम देखते हैं कि उनके बारे में वचन में ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं लिखा गया है जो इस मिथ्या धारणा की पुष्टि तो दूर की बात है, इसके पक्ष में कोई संकेत भी करे। पहले, 5 जुलाई के लेख में यह उल्लेख किया गया था कि ऐसी कई स्त्रियाँ थीं जो प्रभु यीशु के साथ रहती थीं, उसकी, तथा उसके शिष्यों की सेवा किया करती थीं (मरकुस 15:40-41; लूका 8:2-3), किन्तु फिर भी उनमें से किसी को भी कभी भी किसी कलीसिया की सभा में प्रचार की ज़िम्मेदारी नहीं दी गई, और न ही उनमें से किसी को किसी भी कलीसिया में पास्टर नियुक्त किया गया। उसी लेख में यह भी दिखाया गया था कि कलीसियाओं के कार्यों तथा संचालन के लिए जो अगुवे थे, उनमें कभी भी किसी भी स्त्री के होने का भी कोई उल्लेख नहीं है। आज हम नए नियम में उल्लेख की गई कुछ अन्य स्त्रियों के बारे में देखेंगे जो भक्ति के साथ प्रभु परमेश्वर की सेवा करती थीं, और उनकी श्रद्धा तथा सेवा के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन में उनका आदरणीय उल्लेख किया गया है, किन्तु उनमें से किसी को भी, कभी भी, कलीसिया में प्रचार या पास्टर होने की ज़िम्मेदारी नहीं दी गई।

    इनमें से पहली स्त्री है हन्नाह भविष्यद्वक्तिन, जिसका उल्लेख हम लूका 2:36-38 में, प्रभु यीशु के जन्म से संबंधित बातों के सन्दर्भ में पाते हैं। लूका उसके बारे में लिखता है, “वह चौरासी वर्ष से विधवा थी: और मन्दिर को नहीं छोड़ती थी पर उपवास और प्रार्थना कर कर के रात-दिन उपासना किया करती थी” (लूका 2:37)। लूका द्वारा लिखे गए उसके वर्णन से हम देखते हैं कि हन्नाह भविष्यद्वक्तिन थी, चौरासी वर्ष से विधवा थी, मंदिर को नहीं छोड़ती थी, और रात-दिन प्रार्थनाओं तथा उपवास के साथ उपासना किया करती थी। आज जो स्त्रियाँ कलीसिया में पुलपिट से प्रचार करना और पास्टर नियुक्त होना ही सेवा और अपना अधिकार समझती हैं, वे हन्नाह के जीवन से बहुत कुछ सीख सकती हैं। बिना कभी किसी पुलपिट पर खड़े हुए, बिना कभी किसी को एक भी संदेश का प्रचार किए, परमेश्वर से उच्च आदर प्राप्त किया जा सकता है, परमेश्वर के लिए भविष्यद्वक्तिन भी बना जा सकता है। पुलपिट से प्रचार करने की मनोकामना रखने वाली स्त्रियाँ इस उदाहरण से देख सकती हैं कि कलीसिया में पुलपिट से प्रचार करना और पास्टर बनना ही परमेश्वर की सेवा करने, उससे स्वीकृति और आशीष पाने के तरीके नहीं हैं। आप परमेश्वर की सेवा हन्नाह के समान रात-दिन उपवास और प्रार्थनाओं के द्वारा, और यदि चाहें तो कलीसिया में रहने, तथा फीबे के समान कलीसिया की देखभाल और सेवा करने के द्वारा भी कर सकते हैं। और यह करना वास्तव में परमेश्वर के वचन की भक्त स्त्रियों के जीवनों के उदाहरणों का सच्चा अनुसरण करना होगा, बजाए इसके कि उन भक्त स्त्रियों के उदाहरणों का दुरुपयोग किया जाए, और उनके नाम के सहारे मनगढ़ंत और बाइबल के विपरीत धारणाओं को बढ़ावा दिया जाए।

    जो परमेश्वर के वचन में आदर का स्थान पाती हैं, उन स्त्रियों में एक अन्य उल्लेख है सुसमाचार प्रचारक फिलिप्पुस की चार पुत्रियों का (प्रेरितों 21:8-9)। उनके बारे में केवल पद – पद 9, में ही लिखा गया है; इसका कोई उल्लेख नहीं है कि वे किस बारे में भविष्यवाणी करती थीं, कब और कहाँ पर करती थीं, आदि। किन्तु उनके द्वारा कभी किसी कलीसिया में कोई प्रचार करने का उल्लेख भी नहीं है, यद्यपि उनका पिता आरंभिक कलीसिया के समय में एक बहुत जाना-माना, प्रभावी, और प्रमुख सुसमाचार प्रचारक था। परमेश्वर के वचन में फिलिप्पुस को न केवल सुसमाचार प्रचारक के रूप में पहचाना प्राप्त है, वरन चार भविष्यवाणी करने वाली पुत्रियों का पिता होने का अभी आदर प्राप्त है – जो इस बात की गवाही है कि उसने उनका पालन-पोषण परमेश्वर के भय और अगुवाई में किया होगा। यह भी प्रभु की सेवा करने का एक तरीका है – बच्चों की ऐसी परवरिश करना कि उससे परमेश्वर की महिमा हो, उसे आदर मिले।

    अगले लेख में हम स्त्रियों के कलीसियाओं में प्रचार करने तथा पास्टर बनने की इस श्रृंखला का सार तथा निष्कर्ष को देखेंगे।

    So far, from the New Testament we have seen about four godly women, Phoebe, the Samaritan Woman, Mary Magdalene, and Priscilla who are often used as examples to justify the notion that women have the permission to preach in Churches and become Pastors. But analyzing the information given about them in God’s Word the Bible, we could see that there was nothing mentioned about them that could affirm, or even indirectly support this false notion. In an earlier article of 5th July, there was a mention of women who were associated with the Lord Jesus, accompanied Him, and ministered to him and His disciples during their ministry (Mark 15:40-41; Luke 8:2-3), but still none of them were ever given this responsibility of preaching to the congregation in a Church gathering, nor was any of them made the Pastor of any Church. In the same article a mention had also been made that the amongst the elders who deliberated and decided about the various matters concerning the Church, there is no mention of any woman ever being a part of those elders. Today we will see about some other women mentioned in the New Testament, who devoutly served the Lord God, and have an honorable mention in God’s Word for their reverence and commitment, but did not have the ministry of preaching in the Churches or of being Pastors of any Church.

    The first of these women is the prophetess Anna, whose honorable mention we find in Luke 2:36-38, associated with the events related to the Lord Jesus’s birth. Luke says about her, “and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day” (Luke 2:37). What we see from Luke’s account about her is that Anna was a prophetess, was a widow of about eighty-four years, did not depart from the Temple, and served God with fastings and prayers night and day. Those women who today insist on preaching from the pulpit and becoming Pastors in the Churches, have a lot to learn from Anna. Without ever standing on any pulpit, or preaching any sermon to anyone, you can still have great honor from God, can be a prophetess for God. Moreover, preaching from the pulpit and becoming Pastors in the Church are not the only ways to serve God and be acknowledged and blessed by Him. You can serve the Lord like Anna, through fastings and prayers, night and day, and, if desired, by staying in the Church like Anna, and looking after its needs, serving it like Phoebe used to do, thereby actually and honestly emulating the examples set by these godly women, instead of misusing their examples to propagate contrived unBiblical notions.

    Another set of women who are honorably mentioned in God’s Word are the four daughters of Philip the evangelist (Acts 21:8-9). That one verse – verse 9 is the only mention of them in God’s Word; nothing is said about what they prophesied about, to whom did they prophesy, when and where they prophesied, etc. But there is no mention of them ever preaching in any Church or any of them being a Pastor, despite their father being a well-known, effective, and prominent servant of God in the initial Church period. In the Word of God, Philip, besides his own well-known ministry as an evangelist, is also known as the father of four daughters who prophesied – a testimony to the godly upbringing that he would have given them. This is another way to serve the Lord – bringing up the children in a manner that glorifies God, brings honor to Him.

    In the next article we will summarize and conclude this series on women being given the ministry of preaching and becoming Pastors in Churches.

I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    एक अन्य भक्त स्त्री, जिसका नाम और उदाहरण स्त्रियों के कलीसियाओं में प्रचार करने और पास्टर बनने की अनुमति होने को दिखाने के लिए बहुधा लिया जाता है, प्रिस्किल्ला है। बाइबल में प्रिस्किल्ला और उसके पति का उल्लेख नए नियम में कुल पाँच बार आया है (प्रेरितों 18:2, 18, 26; रोमियों 16:3; 1 कुरिन्थियों16:19)। इन 5 उल्लेखों में से रोमियों और कुरिन्थियों के उल्लेख, पौलुस द्वारा उन्हें अपनी इन पत्रियों का अन्त करते हुए किया गया अभिनन्दन है। कुरिन्थियों वाले उल्लेख में पौलुस उनके घर में होने वाली कलीसिया का भी उल्लेख करता है, लेकिन इस बात का कोई उल्लेख नहीं है कि उस कलीसिया में कौन प्रचार करता था और कौन उसका संचालन करता था। प्रेरितों 18 में आए तीनों उल्लेखों में से पद 2 उनके परिचय का है, पद 18 उनके पौलुस के साथ सूरिया तक यात्रा करने को बताता है, और केवल पद 26 ही वह एकमात्र पद है जिसमें उनका एक स्पष्ट परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई से संबंधित कार्य लिखा गया है; और वह भी उनके द्वारा एक व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर का वचन “ठीक-ठीक बताया” गया है, किसी कलीसिया की सभा में कोई प्रचार करना नहीं।

    अपुल्लोस को समझाने का यह उल्लेख, अर्थात प्रेरितों 18:26, ही एकमात्र है जो परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई से सीधे से संबंधित है, और इसमें केवल प्रिस्किल्ला अकेली का ही नाम नहीं आया है, वरन उसका नाम उसके पति अक्विला के नाम के साथ आया है, अर्थात, अपुल्लोस को समझाने वाली वह अकेली नहीं थी वरन वह और उसके पति दोनों ने मिलकर अपुल्लोस को समझाया था, जैसा कि वचन में भी सफाई से लिखा हुआ है, “...पर प्रिस्‍किल्ला और अक्‍विला उस की बातें सुनकर, उसे अपने यहां ले गए और परमेश्वर का मार्ग उसको और भी ठीक ठीक बताया।” ध्यान कीजिए, लिखा है “ठीक ठीक बताया”, न कि प्रचार किया। और उन्होंने यह काम किसी आराधनालय में नहीं किया, किसी कलीसिया की सभा में नहीं किया, वरन उसे आराधनालय से अलग ले जाकर किया। यह भी नहीं लिखा गया है कि यह उनके द्वारा उन सभाओं में बारंबार किया जाने वाला काम था; वचन में इसे उनके द्वारा बस इस एक ही बार किए जाने का उल्लेख है। और इसे अक्विला और प्रिस्किल्ला ने मिल कर किया था, न कि केवल प्रिस्किल्ला अकेली ने किया। साथ ही, यद्यपि यह पद बताता है कि अक्विला और प्रिस्किल्ला ने अपुल्लोस को आराधनालय में बोलते हुए सुना था, किन्तु यह पद न तो कहता है और न ही कोई संकेत देता है कि उस आराधनालय में उन दोनों को वचन की सेवकाई के लिए उपयोग किया जाता था, या वे वहाँ पर नियमित जाया करते थे। पद बस इतना ही कहता है कि जिस समय अपुल्लोस उस आराधनालय की सभा में प्रचार कर रहा था, वे दोनों भी वहाँ पर थे और उसे सुन रहे थे। बल्कि, यदि अक्विला और प्रिस्किल्ला उस आराधनालय में प्रचार के लिए उपयोग किए जा रहे होते, वहाँ पर नियमित जाया करते, तो उन्हें फिर अपुल्लोस को वहाँ से अलग ले जाने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं होती, वे वहीं पर और अधिकार के साथ उसे समझाने के काम को कर सकते थे। इसलिए किसी भी रीति से, कैसी भी कल्पना के द्वारा, इस पद से यह निष्कर्ष नहीं निकाला जा सकता है कि प्रिस्किल्ला स्थानीय आराधनालय में या उसके सदस्यों को प्रचार किया करती थी।

    1 कुरिन्थियों 16:19 में उनके घर में कलीसिया के होने का उल्लेख यह नहीं कहता है कि उनमें से कोई एक भी वहाँ प्रचारक अथवा संचालक था, वचन बस यही कहता है कि कलीसिया उनके घर में आयोजित की जाती थी, उन्होंने अपने घर को कलीसिया के लिए उपलब्ध करवा रखा था। इसलिए इस वाक्य में अपनी ही बातें जोड़ने के द्वारा, इस पद को दोनों ही पक्ष के समर्थन के लिए उपयोग किया जा सकता है। जो यह दिखाना चाहते हैं कि प्रिस्किल्ला अपने घर में आयोजित होने वाली कलीसिया में प्रचार किया करती थी, अपनी इस धारणा को इसमें जोड़ सकते हैं। और दूसरी ओर, जो यह दिखाना चाहते हैं कि यद्यपि उसके पास अवसर था किन्तु फिर भी प्रिस्किल्ला अपने घर की कलीसिया में प्रचार नहीं किया करती थी, वे भी कुछ अधिक बल के साथ अपनी बात को रख सकते हैं और कह सकते हैं कि यद्यपि प्रिस्किल्ला के घर में कलीसिया आयोजित होती थी और उसके पास अवसर था, फिर भी परमेश्वर का वचन यह नहीं कहता है कि वह उसमें प्रचार किया करती थी, जिसका तात्पर्य है कि वह प्रचार नहीं करती थी। क्योंकि इस पद के आधार पर किसी भी पक्ष की ओर दलील दी जा सकती है, इसलिए इस पद को किसी भी एक ओर का समर्थन करने के लिए दावे के साथ उपयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है।

    कुछ लोगों ने प्रेरितों 18:18 का अपने पक्ष में अनुचित लाभ उठाने का प्रयास किया है। वे कहते हैं कि इस पद में प्रिस्किल्ला का नाम उसके पति, अक्विला के नाम से पहले लिखा गया है, जो इस बात का संकेत है कि उन दोनों में से प्रिस्किल्ला की भूमिका या सेवकाई अधिक महत्वपूर्ण थी। किन्तु यह भी वचन का दुरुपयोग कर के केवल एक विशेष विचारधारा का समर्थन दिखाने का प्रयास है, वास्तविकता नहीं। नए नियम में जो 5 बार उन दोनों के नामों का उल्लेख आया है, उनमें से दो बार, प्रेरितों 18:18 तथा रोमियों 16:3 में प्रिस्किल्ला का नाम अक्विला के नाम से पहले लिखा गया है; जब कि शेष तीन बार – प्रेरितों 18:2, 26, और 1 कुरिन्थियों 16:19 में अक्विला का नाम पहले लिखा गया है। तो अब बाइबल के इन तथ्यों के आधार पर, उन लोगों की इस दलील का क्या महत्व रह जाता है? क्या यह शैतान की कुटिलता और चालाकी से लोगों को भरमाने, उनसे परमेश्वर के वचन का दुरुपयोग करवाने को नहीं दिखता है? बजाए इसके कि ये लोग परमेश्वर के वचन की सभी बातों, सभी तथ्यों को देखें और उनके आधार पर एक सच्चा निष्कर्ष निकालें, ये शैतान के बहकावे में आकर वचन को तोड़-मरोड़ कर अपनी ही धारणा में बैठाने, अपने आप को सही ठहराने का प्रयास करते हैं। जबकि हमेशा परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ निष्पक्ष होकर ईमानदारी के साथ व्यवहार करना चाहिए और सच्चे निष्कर्ष निकाल कर प्रस्तुत करने चाहिएँ, न कि अपनी स्वार्थ-सिद्धि के लिए मन-गढ़ंत निष्कर्ष प्रस्तुत किए जाएँ।  

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

According to the Bible, Do Women Have the Permission to Serve as Pastors and Preach from the Pulpit in the Church?

 

Part 13 – Analysis of Examples of Women of the New Testament – 4 – Priscilla

 

    Another godly woman, whose name and example is often used to try to justify women preaching in the Churches and becoming Pastors is Priscilla. In the Bible, Priscilla and her husband are mentioned in the New Testament a total of 5 times (Acts 18:2, 18, 26; Romans 16:3; 1 Corinthians16:19). Of these 5 occasions, the mention in Romans and 1 Corinthians, is Paul’s greetings to them, as he concludes his letters. In the mention in Corinthians Paul also mentions that the Church used to gather in their house, but there is no mention of who did the preaching and who conducted the service there. And of the 3 mentions in Acts 18, in verse 2 is the introduction about them, verse 18 mentions their going on a journey with Paul to Syria, and only in verse 26 is the solitary mention of their helping Apollos to understand the way of God more accurately. Thus, out of the 5 mentions about them in the Bible, only one verse has a clear unambiguous mention of an activity related to the ministry of God’s Word; and that too is of “explaining” God’s Word to one person, not preaching to any congregation.

    

    In this one instance, i.e., Acts 18:26, that directly relates to the ministry of God’s Word, i.e., explaining to Apollos, the name of Priscilla has not come alone, but along with the name of her husband Aquila, i.e., it was not she alone but both of them who explained to Apollos, as it clearly says in the verse, “…they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.” Notice, this “explaining”, not any preaching, was not done in any place of worship, nor during any Church meeting, but as an aside. It was an activity involving only one single person, namely Apollos, and not the whole congregation. It was a one-time action, and not a regular or recurring thing done by them in that congregation. And it was an activity that was jointly carried out by both Aquila and Priscilla, not exclusively by Priscilla. Moreover, though this verse says that Aquila and Priscilla heard Apollos speak in the synagogue, but it does not indicate or imply that they were being used in that synagogue, amongst that congregation there, to preach or teach to them, or that they regularly used to go that Synagogue. All it says is that they were present there at the time when Apollos was preaching in that Synagogue, to its congregation. Rather, if they were being used in that Synagogue to teach and preach God’s Word, had been going there regularly, then they would have had no need to take Apollos aside to explain things to him; they could have done this easily and authoritatively in that Synagogue itself. Therefore, by no stretch of imagination can this verse be used to infer that Priscilla preached in the local Synagogue or to its members.

    The mention of the local Church assembling in their house, in 1 Corinthians 16:19, does not say that either or both of them preached or managed the affairs of the Church in their home. All that the Word says is that they had made their home available for the Church. Therefore, by reading things into this statement, this argument can be used both ways. Those who want to use it to show that Priscilla preached in the Church in her house, can do so under their own assumption, but the Word of God does not say so. On the other hand, those who want to show that Priscilla did not preach in the Church in her house, can more certainly say and argue their point that although there was a Church in their house, yet God’s Word does not specifically state that Priscilla preached there, though she had the opportunity, thereby implying that Priscilla did not. Therefore, this verse can be used by either side in favor of their stand on the issue, and hence cannot be accepted as categorically saying one thing or the other, for or against this notion.

    Some people have tried to take undue advantage of Acts 18:18, by saying that since Priscilla’s name is mentioned before her husband Aquila’s name, therefore this indicates that between the two of them she had the more important role or ministry. This is again a misuse of the Scriptures to make it suit one’s particular point of view, and not the realty. Of the 5 times their name has come in the New Testament, twice in Acts 18:18 and Romans 16:3, has Priscilla’s name been written before Aquila’s; while in the other 3 instances – Acts 18:2, 26; 1 Corinthians 16:19, it is Aquila’s name that is mentioned before Priscilla’s; so, where does this fact of the matter leave this line of argument? Does it not expose the devious ways in which Satan induces people to take liberty with God’s Word, to twist and turn it to make it suit their particular opinion, instead of looking at and considering all the facts given in God’s Word impartially, in an unbiased manner to come to honest conclusions, instead of contrived ones?

    So, as for the preceding three godly women mentioned in the Bible, even this fourth one, Priscilla, on the basis of the information given about her in God’s Word, cannot be used to say that God’s Word permits women to preach in the Churches and become Pastors. In the next article, we will look about some more godly women mentioned in the New Testament.
