मसीही जीवन के सात कदम - 2 - पश्चाताप
पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि भक्त यहूदी व्यवस्था की बातों का पालन करने, पर्व मनाने, और निर्धारित भेंट-बलिदान चढ़ाने के लिए यरूशलेम में एकत्रित हो रखे थे। उन्होंने पतरस के द्वारा, पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य और मार्गदर्शन में, सीधे और सरल रीति से दिए गए सुसमाचार को सुना। पतरस ने पवित्रशास्त्र पर आधारित सुसमाचार को स्पष्टता से, निडर होकर और बिना मनुष्य के भय के, उन में बाँटा। उसकी बात सुनकर उन भक्त यहूदियों में से बहुतों के हृदय छिद गये। परमेश्वर के वचन और पवित्र आत्मा ने उन्हें उनकी वास्तविक दशा का दोष-बोध करवाया। उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि उनके द्वारा धार्मिकता से सम्बन्धित सभी बातों और निर्धारित धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों तथा परम्पराओं का निर्वाह करने के बावजूद, वे अभी भी परमेश्वर को अस्वीकार्य थे। तब, अपनी इस दशा के समाधान के लिए अपने धार्मिक नेताओं और धार्मिक प्रथाओं की ओर वापस लौटने की बजाए, उन्होंने पतरस से ही पूछा कि अब उन्हें क्या करना चाहिए? दूसरे शब्दों में, उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि आगे बढ़ने का रास्ता, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनने का मार्ग, अब उन्हें उन लोगों के माध्यम से ही पता चल सकता था, जिन्होंने निडर होकर, खुलासे के साथ, पवित्रशास्त्र पर आधारित, सरल, सीधे, और स्पष्ट शब्दों में परमेश्वर का वचन उन्हें सुनाया था। अब उन प्रचारकों और शिक्षकों पर, और उन सभी रीतियों एवं प्रथाओं पर भरोसा रखना ज़ारी रखने का कोई लाभ नहीं था जो अभी तक उन्हें परमेश्वर के लिए स्वीकार्य नहीं बना सके थे। पतरस ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया कि वे लोग तीन बातों का पालन करें (प्रेरितों 2:38-39); जिन लोगों ने पतरस की इस बात को स्वीकार किया, और उसके कहे के अनुसार किया (प्रेरितों 2:41), फिर उन्हें चार और बातें बताई गईं (प्रेरितों 2:42)। प्रेरितों के काम की पुस्तक के अगले अध्यायों में हम देखते हैं कि जो लोग ने इन सात बातों का पालन करने लगे, प्रभु उन्हें ने अपनी कलीसिया में जोड़ता चला गया, तथा कलीसिया और विश्वासियों में बहुत तेजी से वृद्धि एवं उन्नति हुई। तो, संक्षेप में, इन सात बातों का पालन करना, कलीसिया की वृद्धि, और प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के आत्मिक विकास की कुंजी है। आज से हम मसीही जीवन और विकास के लिए इन सात बातों, या कदमों पर विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे। क्योंकि इनमें से पहले दो, पश्चाताप और बपतिस्मा पर पहले ही इस श्रृंखला के पिछले लेखों में विस्तार से विचार किया जा चुका है, इसलिए हम इन दोनों का अब केवल सारांश ही देखेंगे, और आने वाले लेखों में अन्य पाँच पर कुछ विस्तार से विचार करेंगे।
1. पश्चाताप: (प्रेरितों 2:38) बाइबल के अनुसार, पश्चाताप करने का अर्थ है पूरी तरह से पहले की बातों से अर्थात, साँसारिक तौर-तरीकों और जीवन शैली से दूर हो जाना, उनसे फिर जाना, और एक नई दिशा में बढ़ना आरम्भ करना; अर्थात, दुनिया के तौर-तरीकों और जीवन से पलट कर, परमेश्वर के तरीकों और जीवन में चलना आरम्भ कर देना। जैसा कि 2 कुरिन्थियों 7:10 में कहा गया है, सच्चा पश्चाताप, अपने पापों के लिए सच्चे मन से दोषी होने के एहसास तथा परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनने के निर्णय करने से उत्पन्न होता है। यह व्यक्ति द्वारा किसी बात को त्यागे बिना, उसके लिए केवल खेद व्यक्त करना या क्षमा माँग लेना मात्र नहीं है। वास्तविक पश्चाताप का अर्थ है अपने जीवन की गलतियों को स्वीकार करना, उनसे मुँह मोड़ लेना, और उन्हें त्याग देना। पश्चाताप झूठा भी होता है, जैसे कि, किसी बात को लेकर अस्थायी दुख व्यक्त करना; या रीति के समान, पाप-क्षमा और पश्चाताप से सम्बन्धित विश्वास-वचनों और पारम्परिक बातों को दोहराते रहने पर भरोसा करना, जैसा कि अकसर अधिकांश कलीसियाओं में होता है; या किसी को खुश करने के लिए ऊपरी तौर से दुख व्यक्त कर देना; या किसी अप्रिय स्थिति से बचने के लिए किया जाने वाला दिखावा, आदि। ऐसा पश्चाताप सच्चा और हार्दिक पश्चाताप न होने के कारण व्यर्थ एवं निष्फल है। ऐसा झूठा पश्चाताप व्यक्ति में केवल परमेश्वर द्वारा क्षमा किए जाने की झूठी भावना पैदा करता है, लेकिन वास्तव में किसी को बचाता नहीं है, और अन्ततः उस के अनन्त विनाश का कारण बनता है। परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल हमें सिखाती है कि पश्चाताप परमेश्वर के साथ संगति स्थापित करने का पहला कदम है।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Seven Steps of Christian Living - 2 - Repentance
In the previous article we saw that the devout Jews had gathered in Jerusalem to fulfill the requirements of the Law, celebrate the feasts, and offer the prescribed offerings. They heard the gospel preached to them by Peter, under the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, in a simple straightforward manner. Peter shared the gospel with them clearly and boldly, on the basis of Scriptures, and without fear of any man. On hearing him, many of those devout Jews were cut to their hearts. They were convicted by God’s Word and the Holy Spirit regarding their actual condition. They realized that despite all their religiosity, and fulfilling the prescribed religious rituals and traditions, they were still unacceptable to God. Then, instead of turning back to their religious leaders and religious practices for the remedy to their situation, they asked Peter what should they do? In other words, they realized that the way forward, the way to becoming acceptable to God was through those who had Scripturally, boldly, openly, and clearly spoken God’s Word to them in a simple and straightforward manner. There was no point in continuing to trust those preachers and teachers, and all those rituals and practices that had failed to make them acceptable to God. Peter responded by telling them to do three things (Acts 2:38-39); those who accepted Peter’s call, and did what he said (Acts 2:41), were then told four more things (Acts 2:42). In the subsequent chapters of the book of Acts we see that it was those who practiced these seven things, that the Lord added to His Church, and the Church and Believers grew very rapidly. So, in a nutshell, practicing these seven things, is the key to Church growth, and the spiritual growth of every Born-Again Christian Believer. From today we will start considering these seven things, or steps for Christian Living and Growth. Since the first two of these, Repentance and Baptism have already been considered in detail in the previous articles of this series, therefore we will only summarize these two now, and consider the other five in some detail in the coming articles.
1. Repent: (Acts 2:38) Biblically, to repent means to completely turn away from the former, i.e., the ways and life of the world, and to start moving into a new direction, i.e., into the ways and life of God. It is not just being sorry or apologetic for something, yet not discarding it. But it means to accept the wrongs in one’s life, discard them, and turn away from them. As is stated in 2 Corinthians 7:10, true repentance comes from a heartfelt conviction of one’s sins and a desire to be pleasing to God. There is a false repentance also, e.g., a temporary remorse about something; or trusting the ritualistic repetition of statements of beliefs and creeds related to forgiveness of sins and repentance, as often happens in most Churches; or a superficial act done to please somebody; or a pretense carried out to wriggle out of some untoward situation, etc. Such a repentance, because of not being genuine heartfelt repentance is vain and inconsequential. Such a false repentance only produces a false sense of having been forgiven by God in the person, but does not actually save anyone, and eventually leads to their eternal destruction. God’s Word the Bible teaches us that Repentance is the first step to establishing fellowship with God.
We can realize the importance of Repentance by considering some verses from the Bible about it, that show that it was:

As was stated in the last article, we need to seriously consider and act upon the Biblical fact and example, that if the devout Jews of that time, despite fulfilling the prescribed religious practises and rituals, still needed to repent to be reconciled with God, then the “christians” of today, whether devout or not, don’t they too need to repent to be reconciled to God? Repentance is not just for the non-christians; in fact it is God’s commandment that all, that everyone, everywhere repent (Acts 17:30). There is no salvation without true repentance.
We will carry on from here, and consider some things about Baptism, in the next article.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
