    पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम परमेश्वर की आराधना करने के लाभ तथा प्राप्त होने वाली बातों के बारे में देखते आ रहे हैं, और यह भी देखा है कि परमेश्वर क्यों चाहता है कि उसके लोगों की प्राथमिकता आराधना करना हो, न कि केवल प्रार्थना करने वाले ही बने रहना। इससे पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा था कि किस प्रकार से आराधना हमारी प्रार्थनाओं को प्रभावी बनाती है, परमेश्वर में हमारे भरोसे को दृढ़ बनाए रखती है और उन्नत करती है, तथा हमें प्रभु द्वारा दी गई सुसमाचार प्रचार और प्रसार करने की ज़िम्मेदारी को प्रभावी तथा फलवन्त रीति से निर्वाह करने में सहायता करती है। इससे फिर हम शैतान द्वारा परमेश्वर, उसके वचन, और उसके कार्यों पर अविश्वास तथा संदेहों में फँसाए जाकर पाप में गिर जाने से बचे रहते हैं। शैतान मसीही विश्वासियों पर निरंतर हमले करता रहता है कि उन्हें किसी प्रकार से पाप में गिरा और फंसा दे। नया जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी अपना उद्धार तो कभी नहीं खोएगा, किन्तु पाप के कारण अपनी अनन्तकाल की आशीषों की घोर हानि अवश्य उठाएगा; और यदि वह बारम्बार समझौते और पाप में पड़ते रहने की प्रवृत्ति रखेगा तो अपने इस जिद्दी और बिगड़े हुए व्यवहार के लिए उसे परमेश्वर से ताड़ना भी सहनी पड़ेगी। आज हम एक और लाभ के बारे में देखेंगे, जो हमारे व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन और प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास के जीवन के साथ, तथा मसीही विश्वासी के बारम्बार संसार के साथ समझौता करते रहने तथा पाप में गिरते रहने से संबंधित है; और जिस के कारण उसे गंभीर तथा स्थाई हानि उठानी पड़ती है। ऐसे में आराधना से मिलने वाला लाभ है कि आराधना हमें भ्रष्ट होने और संसार के साथ समझौता कर के पाप में गिरने से बचाए रखती है।

    हम रोमियों 1:21-23 में लिखा हुआ पाते हैं कि “इस कारण कि परमेश्वर को जानने पर भी उन्होंने परमेश्वर के योग्य बड़ाई और धन्यवाद न किया, परन्तु व्यर्थ विचार करने लगे, यहां तक कि उन का निर्बुद्धि मन अन्धेरा हो गया। वे अपने आप को बुद्धिमान जताकर मूर्ख बन गए। और अविनाशी परमेश्वर की महिमा को नाशमान मनुष्य, और पक्षियों, और चौपायों, और रेंगने वाले जन्तुओं की मूरत की समानता में बदल डाला।” यहाँ पर, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, प्रेरित पौलुस एक से बदतर एक, तीन कदम के पतन और फिर उनके दुष्परिणामों (रोमियों 1:24-32) की रूपरेखा देता है। यहाँ पर जिन लोगों की बात हो रही है, यद्यपि वे परमेश्वर को जानते थे, परन्तु न तो उन्होंने उसकी योग्य बड़ाई की, और न ही परमेश्वर के प्रति धन्यवादी हुए। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि धन्यवाद करना आराधना का सबसे बुनियादी, सबसे साधारण स्वरूप है, और परमेश्वर की बड़ाई या गुणानुवाद करना आराधना का उच्चतम स्वरूप है। इसलिए यह वाक्यांश, “उन्होंने परमेश्वर के योग्य बड़ाई और धन्यवाद न किया” की जा सकने वाली परमेश्वर की हर प्रकार की आराधना के स्वरूपों का सूचक है। किसी भी स्वरूप में परमेश्वर की आराधना न करने के कारण, उन लोगों में, अर्थात जो परमेश्वर को जानते थे किन्तु उसकी आराधना नहीं करते थे, एक के बाद एक तीन प्रकार के प्रभाव आए। ध्यान कीजिए, यहाँ यह नहीं लिखा गया है कि परमेश्वर ने उनके जीवन में कुछ किया; बल्कि पद 24-32 दिखाते हैं कि जो हुआ वह उनके परमेश्वर की आराधना न करने का स्वाभाविक परिणाम था; अर्थात, आराधना का अभाव जीवन में हानिकारक प्रवृत्तियाँ और प्रभाव ले आता है।

    यहाँ पर उन विनाशकारी परिणामों तक पहुँचने के, पद 21-23 में दिए गए तीन कदम हैं: पहला, व्यर्थ विचार करने लगना, अर्थात मूर्खता और दुष्टता के विचार मन में उत्पन्न होना; फिर, दूसरा कदम है उनका निर्बुद्धि मन अँधेरा हो गया, अर्थात वे बेपरवाह और बिना समझ-बूझ के कार्य करने लग गए; और तीसरा है, वे अपनी दृष्टि में तो बुद्धिमान किन्तु परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में मूर्ख हो गए, और अपनी ‘बुद्धिमानी’ में उन्होंने परमेश्वर के स्वरूप और महिमा को ही बदल डाला - वे सच्चे जीवते परमेश्वर से दूर हो गए और उसके स्थान पर अपने लिए अपनी कल्पना और इच्छा के अनुसार ईश्वर बना लिए। परिणाम यह हुआ कि परमेश्वर भी उन से दूर हो गया, और उन्हें उनकी इच्छानुसार करते रहने के लिए छोड़ दिया (पद 24); और फिर यहाँ से लेकर इस अध्याय के अन्त तक एक निरंतर पतन और दुराचार का वर्णन है जिसका अन्त विनाश में होता है। जहाँ आशीष हो सकती थी, वहाँ विनाश आ गया।

    यह हमें निर्गमन 32 अध्याय में दिए गए इस्राएलियों के व्यवहार के बारे में ध्यान दिलाता है। उन इस्राएलियों ने परमेश्वर से याचना की थी कि उन्हें मिस्र के दासत्व से छुड़ाए, उन्होंने परमेश्वर के आश्चर्यकर्मों को देखा और अनुभव किया था जिनमें लाल-सागर का दो भाग होना भी सम्मिलित है, उन्होंने उनके प्रति परमेश्वर की देखभाल और सुरक्षा को जाना और अनुभव किया था - वे प्रतिदिन परमेश्वर का दिया हुआ मन्ना खाते थे, उसके द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाया गया पानी पीते थे, उनके समक्ष वह आग के खम्भे और उन पर छाया बनाए रखने वाले बादल के रूप में विद्यमान रहता था। किन्तु फिर भी, जब मूसा परमेश्वर से व्यवस्था और निर्देश लेने के लिए पर्वत पर गया, तो बजाए परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें प्रतिदिन उपलब्ध करवाई जा रही आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति एवं सुरक्षा के लिए उसका धन्यवादी और कृतज्ञ होने के, वे अपने मनों में व्यर्थ विचार करने लगे, जिस परमेश्वर की छाया में वे जी रहे थे, जिसका मन्ना खा रहे थे और पानी पी रहे थे, उन्होंने उसे ही भुला दिया, उससे दूर हो गए, और उपासना करने लिए एक सोने का बछड़ा बना लिया। मूसा के हस्तक्षेप और मध्यस्थता के कारण वे परमेश्वर के प्रकोप से तो बच गए, किन्तु भारी ताड़ना फिर भी सहनी पड़ी।

    हम अगले लेख में इसी विषय को और आगे बढ़ाएंगे, तथा बाइबल के कुछ अन्य उदाहरणों की सहायता से समझेंगे कि परमेश्वर की आराधना की अवहेलना करने के परिणाम क्या होते हैं।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए – उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

    For the past few articles, we have been looking at the benefits and gains of worshipping God, and why God wants His people to primarily be worshippers, and not just those who only pray and ask from Him. In the preceding articles we have seen how worship makes our prayers effective, helps us in developing and maintaining our trust in God, and also makes us more effective and fruitful in our Lord assigned responsibility of preaching and spreading the gospel. These, in turn, make us far less vulnerable to Satan’s ploys of making us fall through doubts and unbelief about God, His Word, and His works. Satan continually keeps attacking and trying to make the Christian Believers fall into sin. A Born-Again Christian Believer will never loose his salvation, but because of sin will suffer serious harm to his eternal blessings; and a persistent tendency to repeatedly compromise and fall into sin will also result in chastisement from the Lord for this stubbornness and wayward behavior. Today we will look at another benefit related to our practical Christian life of faith in the Lord Jesus, which is related to a Christian Believer’s repeatedly falling into sin and compromising with the world, and thereby suffering irreparable loss. This benefit through worship is that Worship keeps us safe from getting corrupted and drawn away into the ways of the world.

    We see written in Romans 1:21-23, “because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.” Here, by the Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul, a three-step decline, followed by the consequences of their lives taking a downhill course from bad to worse (Romans 1:24-32) has been outlined. The people being talked about are those who knew God, but they did not glorify Him, nor were they thankful to God. We have seen earlier that being thankful is the most basic, most simple form of worshipping God, whereas glorifying God is exalting Him, the highest form of worship. So, this phrase “they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful” in this verse, covers the whole range of various forms and expressions of worship that people can offer to God. The very lack of worshipping God in any manner, brought three successive changes within them, i.e., in the people, who knew God, but did not exercise any form of worship, at all. Please note, it is not that God is doing something to them; rather, verses 24-32 outline the natural consequence of their not worshipping God – lack of worship automatically causes these detrimental things to come in.

    The three steps to disastrous consequences mentioned in verses 21-23 are: First, their thoughts became futile, i.e., vain and foolish, given to wickedness; Then, Secondly, their foolish or wicked hearts were darkened, i.e., became undiscerning and uncaring; followed by, Thirdly, though they were wise in their own eyes, they became fools before God, and in their own ‘wisdom’, they changed the very form and glory of God – they moved away from the true and living God, and replaced Him with someone of their own imaginations. The consequence was that God too moved away from them, and left them to do what they felt like (verse 24); and from here to the end of the chapter is a steady downhill slide into disaster. What could have been a blessed life, became a disastrous life.

    This reminds us of the behavior of the Israelites, in Exodus chapter 32. They had petitioned God for deliverance from the bondage of Egyptians, had seen and experienced God’s various miracles in Egypt as well as the parting of the Red Sea, had seen and experienced His care for them – they were daily eating of the manna and drinking the water He gave, and had the Pillar of Fire and Covering Cloud over them, as visible presence of God with them. But yet, when Moses went up to receive God’s Law and instructions, instead of continuing to trust and thank God for His daily provisions, presence, and security for them, they became futile in their thoughts, denied the God whose cloud was covering them and whose manna they were eating, water they were drinking, moved away from Him and made a golden calf to worship instead. Because of the intervention and pleading by Moses, they could escape God’s wrath, but they had to undergo a severe chastisement.

    We will carry on from here on this topic in the next article, and develop the consequences of neglecting God's worship further through some more Biblical examples.

A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.

    परमेश्वर का वचन बाइबल मनुष्यों की कल्पनाओं, धारणाओं, विचारों, और प्रयासों से रची गई पुस्तक नहीं है, वरन संसार की अन्य सभी पुस्तकों से, सभी ग्रंथों से पृथक, अद्भुत, विलक्षण, और अनुपम रचना है, जो अपने लेखों और गुणों के द्वारा अपने आप को प्रमाणित करती है कि वह वास्तव में सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर द्वारा सारे संसार के दृष्टिकोण से, हर काल-समय में कार्यकारी, संसार के सभी लोगों की भलाई और उपयोग के लिए लिखवाया गया सच्चा विश्वासयोग्य वचन है। बाइबल मनुष्य के प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम, मनुष्य के पाप में गिरकर परमेश्वर से दूर हो जाने, और मनुष्य की इस पाप में पतित स्थिति में भी उसके प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम, तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा मनुष्य को पाप से निकालकर वापस अपनी सहभागिता में लाने की अभिव्यक्ति है।

बाइबल बताती है कि किस प्रकार मनुष्य की अपने साथ संगति को बहाल करने के लिए परमेश्वर ने साधारण, सामान्य, निर्धन मनुष्य - यीशु, के रूप में पृथ्वी पर जन्म लिया; उन्होंने एक निष्पाप, निष्कलंक जीवन बिताया, और समस्त मानव जाति के पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, उनके दण्ड, मृत्यु, को भी अपनी ऊपर ले लिया; वह सभी मनुष्यों के स्थान पर क्रूस पर बलिदान हुए, मारे गए, गाड़े गए, और तीसरे दिन फिर मृतकों में से जी उठे। मनुष्य और परमेश्वर की संगति में बाधा उत्पन्न करने वाली, एक को दूसरे से पृथक करने वाली समस्या पाप है; और पाप का निवारण, अर्थात, उसका परमेश्वर और मनुष्य के मध्य से हटाया जाना ही इस समस्या का समाधान है। आज से हम इन बातों को थोड़ा और विस्तार से देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

 

    आज हम परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार पाप क्या है, इस पर विचार आरंभ करेंगे। सामान्यतः लोग समझते हैं कि पाप करने का अर्थ है शारीरिक रीति से कोई जघन्य अपराध करना, जैसे कि हत्या, व्यभिचार, चोरी-डकैती, लूट, धोखा, इत्यादि। सामान्य प्रयोग में अभद्र भाषा, छिछोरा व्यवहार या वार्तालाप, बिना कुछ भी कहे किसी को कुदृष्टि से देखना, सामान्य व्यवहार में झूठ बोलने अथवा बहाने बनाने या बात को छिपाने, उसे उसकी सच्चाई से भिन्न स्वरूप में व्यक्त करने, आदि, को लोग आम तौर से पाप नहीं मानते हैं। कुछ तो यह भी कहते हैं कि किसी की भलाई के लिए यदि इस प्रकार का व्यवहार कर भी लिया जाए तो वह भला कार्य ही है, कोई पाप नहीं है। इसलिए ऐसी बातों के लिए चिंतित नहीं होना चाहिए, उन्हें लेकर किसी असमंजस में नहीं पड़ना चाहिए। किन्तु ये मनुष्यों की धारणाएं हैं, मनुष्यों द्वारा अपनी सुविधा और आवश्यकता के अनुसार, अपने आप को संतुष्ट रखने के लिए अपने मन से गढ़ी गई बातें हैं। इनमें से कोई भी बात बाइबल के पवित्र निष्पाप सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई पाप की परिभाषा और व्याख्या से मेल नहीं खाती है।

 

बाइबल के अनुसार पाप, मूलतः, परमेश्वर के नियमों, उसकी व्यवस्था का उल्लंघन करना है “जो कोई पाप करता है, वह व्यवस्था का विरोध करता है; ओर पाप तो व्यवस्था का विरोध है” (1 यूहन्ना 3:4); किसी भी प्रकार का अधर्म पाप है “सब प्रकार का अधर्म तो पाप है . . .” (1 यूहन्ना 5:17), वह चाहे किसी भी रीति से, किसी भी बात या परिस्थिति के अन्तर्गत, किसी भी उद्देश्य से क्यों न किया गया हो। बाइबल के अनुसार पाप में होना एक मानसिक दशा है; पाप का निवास, उसकी जड़ मनुष्य के मन में है; उसके बाहरी प्रकटीकरण का आरंभ मनुष्य के मन में से ही होता है, और उचित परिस्थितियों एवँ समय में वह शारीरिक क्रियाओं में प्रकट हो जाता है:

• याकूब 1:14-15 “परन्तु प्रत्येक व्यक्ति अपनी ही अभिलाषा में खिंच कर, और फंस कर परीक्षा में पड़ता है। फिर अभिलाषा गर्भवती हो कर पाप को जनती है और पाप जब बढ़ जाता है तो मृत्यु को उत्पन्न करता है।”

• मरकुस 7:20-23 “फिर उसने कहा; जो मनुष्य में से निकलता है, वही मनुष्य को अशुद्ध करता है। क्योंकि भीतर से अर्थात मनुष्य के मन से, बुरी बुरी चिन्ता, व्यभिचार। चोरी, हत्या, परस्त्रीगमन, लोभ, दुष्टता, छल, लुचपन, कुदृष्टि, निन्दा, अभिमान, और मूर्खता निकलती हैं। ये सब बुरी बातें भीतर ही से निकलती हैं और मनुष्य को अशुद्ध करती हैं।”

• गलतियों 5:19-21 “शरीर के काम तो प्रगट हैं, अर्थात व्यभिचार, गन्‍दे काम, लुचपन। मूर्ति पूजा, टोना, बैर, झगड़ा, ईर्ष्या, क्रोध, विरोध, फूट, विधर्म। डाह, मतवालापन, लीलाक्रीड़ा, और इन के जैसे और और काम हैं, इन के विषय में मैं तुम को पहिले से कह देता हूं जैसा पहिले कह भी चुका हूं, कि ऐसे ऐसे काम करने वाले परमेश्वर के राज्य के वारिस न होंगे।”

 

इसीलिए परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में केवल शारीरिक क्रियाएं नहीं, उन क्रियाओं के पीछे के सभी प्रकार के अपवित्र, अधर्मी विचार भी पाप हैं - चाहे वे क्रियाओं में परिवर्तित नहीं भी हुए हों, तो भी। परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में विचारों में किए गए पाप भी वास्तव में किए गए पापों के समान ही दण्डनीय हैं “परन्तु मैं तुम से यह कहता हूं, कि जो कोई अपने भाई पर क्रोध करेगा, वह कचहरी में दण्ड के योग्य होगा: और जो कोई अपने भाई को निकम्मा कहेगा वह महासभा में दण्ड के योग्य होगा; और जो कोई कहे “अरे मूर्ख” वह नरक की आग के दण्ड के योग्य होगा। परन्तु मैं तुम से यह कहता हूं, कि जो कोई किसी स्त्री पर कुदृष्टि डाले वह अपने मन में उस से व्यभिचार कर चुका।” (मत्ती 5:22, 28)।

इसलिए बाइबल का परमेश्वर, प्रभु यीशु मसीह में होकर, हमारे मन में बसे पाप को मिटाता है; वह हमारे धर्म को नहीं, हमारे मन को बदलता है, जहाँ पर पाप की जड़ छुपी हुई है; और वहाँ से हमारे मनों में जमी हुई पाप की उस जड़ को उखाड़ कर फेंक देता है। मनुष्य अपनी सामर्थ्य से पाप की इस जड़ को नहीं उखाड़ सकता है; वो अपने कर्मों और धार्मिकता के कार्यों आदि से कुछ समय के लिए उस जड़ में से नई डालियाँ फूटना और उन डालियों में नई कोंपलें उत्पन्न होना चाहे दबा लें, किन्तु पापमय विचारों को जो शरीर में तो प्रकट नहीं होते, प्रत्यक्ष नहीं दिखाई देते, उन मन में होने वाले पापों को नहीं रोक सकता है। पाप की जड़ पर निर्णायक प्रहार और मन में बसे पाप का स्थाई निवारण केवल प्रभु परमेश्वर के द्वारा ही संभव है।

    कल हम बाइबल के अनुसार पाप की इस व्याख्या को और आगे देखेंगे।

What Is Sin? - 1

God's Word the Bible is not a book created out of human imaginations, notions, thoughts, and efforts. It is unique, wonderful, astounding, and unparalleled in comparison to any other book of the world, to any other scriptures. It proves itself through its writings and qualities, that it is indeed the true and trustworthy, one and only Word of God, given by the Creator of the universe for the whole world, for the benefit and utilization of the entire mankind, equally applicable at all times and places. The Bible is an expression of God's love for man, even in his sinful state, despite man's falling away from God, and how God has made it possible for man to be delivered from sin and be reconciled with Him.

The Bible describes how God took birth on earth as an ordinary, average, poor common man – Jesus, to restore man's fellowship with Him. He lived a sinless, spotless life, and took the sins of all mankind on Himself, suffered their punishment, death, for them. He was crucified, killed, buried in the place of mankind, and on the third day rose again from the dead. The problem that breaks the fellowship of man with God, and separates one from the other is sin. And the solution to this problem is the removal of sin. From today we will start looking at these things in a little more detail.

Today we will begin by considering and understanding what sin is according to the Word of God. People generally assume and believe that committing a sin means physically committing a heinous crime, such as murder, adultery, theft, robbery, dacoity, gross cheating, etc. Generally speaking, people do not think of things like intemperate or abusive language, uncouth behavior or conversation, just looking at someone with inappropriate thoughts without saying or doing anything, lying, making excuses and hiding things to avoid facing truth, etc. as sin. Some even say that if this is done for the benefit of someone, then it is a good deed, it is not a sin; therefore, one should not be worried about such things, and should not get confused about them. But these are all human concepts and reasonings, the things contrived by the human mind, for men to pacify themselves according to their convenience and need. None of this matches the Bible's definition and explanation of sin as given by the holy sinless Creator God, who alone has the authority to define sin.

According to the Bible, sin is, essentially, a violation of God's laws, “Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness" (1 John 3:4); Any kind of unrighteousness is a sin, “All unrighteousness is sin …” (1 John 5:17), in whatever manner, under whatever circumstances, for whatever purpose this may have been done, by any person. According to the Bible, being in sin is a state of the mind. Sin lives in, and has its roots in the mind of man. Its outward manifestations start from the mind of man, then in conducive circumstances and a favorable time it manifests itself in various kinds of bodily actions:

• James 1:14-15 "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

• Mark 7:20-23 "And He [Jesus] said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

• Galatians 5:19-21 "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."

That's why in the eyes of God, not just physical actions, but all kinds of impure, unrighteous thoughts behind those actions - even if they haven't been converted into any actions, yet they are sin. In the eyes of God, sins committed in the mind and thoughts are just as punishable as sins committed in deeds. “22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.” “28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:22, 28).

So, the God of the Bible, through the Lord Jesus Christ, has given the way to take away the sin that is residing in our hearts; Lord Jesus changes our mind where the root of sin lies, not our religion. And the Lord pulls out and removes the roots of sin that are in our hearts and throws them away. Man by his own power is incapable of pulling out these roots of sin from within themselves. They may, by their pious deeds, religious behavior, and acts of righteousness, be able to suppress for some time the sprouting of new shoots and branches from those roots, but these cannot prevent the sins that happen in the mind, cannot eliminate the sinful thoughts which neither manifest physically nor are visible externally. The decisive attack on the root of sin and the permanent removal of sin settled in the heart and mind is possible only through the Lord God.

Tomorrow we will look further into this Biblical interpretation of sin.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can say this prayer and make your submission in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पवित्र आत्मा तथा वचन के द्वारा दोषी ठहरना 

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न करने के उद्देश्य से, व्यवस्था में दी गई रीतियों और धार्मिक पर्वों को मनाने के लिए, सँसार के विभिन्न भागों से भक्त यहूदी यरूशलेम में एकत्रित हुए थे। पिन्तेकुस्त के दिन, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, पतरस ने उन्हें सुसमाचार सुनाया, और उस से उन भक्त यहूदियों में से बहुतेरों के हृदय छिद गए। तब उन्हें यह एहसास हुआ कि बचाए जाने या उद्धार पाने के लिए, उनके द्वारा रीति के अनुसार जो व्यवस्था का पालन किया जा रहा था, उन्हें उससे कुछ और भी बढ़कर करने की आवश्यकता थी। इसलिए उन्होंने पतरस से पूछा कि उद्धार पाने के लिए वे क्या करें (प्रेरितों 2:37-38)। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पतरस ने उन्हें सात बातें करने के लिए कहा (प्रेरितों 2:40-42); और वे जिन्होंने पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पतरस के द्वारा दिए गए सुसमाचार के द्वारा अपने पाप-दोष को पहचाना था, उन्होंने विश्वास किया, और उसी दिन लगभग 3000 लोग शिष्यों के साथ जुड़ गए। इसे कलीसिया का आरम्भ होना माना जाता है। इसके बाद यहाँ से आगे यह सात बातें उन आरम्भिक विश्वासियों के जीवन का एक अभिन्न अँग बन गई; और जैसा कि हम प्रेरितों के काम की पुस्तक के इससे आगे के अध्यायों में देखते हैं, प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों की सँख्या में बहुत तेज़ी से बढ़ोतरी हुई। कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि इन सात बातों के प्रचार करने, सीखने, और पालन करने से लोगों ने प्रभु यीशु को उद्धारकर्ता के रूप में स्वीकार किया और उसके शिष्य बन गए। यहाँ पर सीखने के लिए कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातें हैं जिन्हें हम आज देखेंगे; और फिर अगले लेख से हम उन सात बातों को, अर्थात मसीही जीवन के सात कदमों को, जिन से व्यक्ति के जीवन में तथा कलीसिया के जीवन में बढ़ोतरी होती है देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

• वे सभी भक्त यहूदी थे, (प्रेरितों 2:5) लेकिन फिर भी पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से उन्हें दिए गए परमेश्वर के वचन ने उन्हें यह एहसास कराया के उन्हें बचाए जाने की अर्थात उद्धार पाने की आवश्यकता है। उनकी सारी धार्मिकता और भक्ति, उनके किसी काम की नहीं थी उनके द्वारा रीति के अनुसार निर्धारित परम्पराओं का निर्वाह करना, उनको परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के लिए निरर्थक था। इब्रानियों की पुस्तक का लेखक यही बात इब्रानियों 9:7-10 पद में कहता है; वहाँ पर 9 पद में लिखा है कि व्यवस्था की यह सारी बातें केवल एक दृष्टान्त के समान थीं, अर्थात एक प्रतीक के समान थीं और जो महायाजक यह सारा काम इस्राएल की मण्डली के लिए किया करता था, वह स्वयं भी इन बातों के द्वारा पवित्र या शुद्ध नहीं होता था।

• उन लोगों के हृदय परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा, जो सीधी और साधारण भाषा में, पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य के द्वारा दिया गया था, छिद गए (प्रेरितों 2:37-38)। इस वचन के दिए जाने में कहीं पर भी किसी भी प्रकार का कोई भी नाटकीय तरीका, कोई विचित्र आवाज़ें निकालना, शरीर से विचित्र हाव-भाव करना, गिर जाना या उछलना-कूदना, आदि, ना तो पतरस के द्वारा और ना अन्य शिष्यों के द्वारा किया गया। वास्तविकता यही है कि बाइबल में ऐसा कोई प्रमाण नहीं है कि इनमें से या ऐसी कोई भी गतिविधि पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति अथवा सामर्थ्य का प्रमाण है; और न ही लोगों को उनके पापों का दोष-बोध करवाने के लिए उनकी कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। 

• उन भक्त यहूदियों के द्वारा उनकी धार्मिक रीतियों का निर्वाह करना अपर्याप्त होने को पहचानने के लिए, उनके हृदयों का छेदा जाना आवश्यक था। जब तक यह हृदय का छेदा  जाना, यह दोषी ठहरना नहीं होगा, तब तक वास्तविक पश्चाताप और परमेश्वर द्वारा बहाल होना भी नहीं होने पाएगा। उनके द्वारा परम्परा के समान रीतियों को मनाने से वह सम्भव नहीं होने पाया जो पवित्र आत्मा के मार्गदर्शन और सामर्थ्य से परमेश्वर के वचन का प्रचार करने से हो गया, अर्थात् एक गहरा पाप-बोध और पश्चाताप। परमेश्वर का वचन पवित्र आत्मा की तलवार है इफिसियों 6:17; यह वह तलवार है जो गहरा काटती है, बारीकी से काटती है, और काटे हुए भागों को अलग-अलग कर देती है (इब्रानियों 4:12)। वचन के सभी प्रचारकों, शिक्षकों, और सेवकाई करने वालों को इस बात का ध्यान रखना चाहिए और इसे लागू करना चाहिए कि तलवार का काम काटना होता है - जिससे पीड़ा होती है; ना कि किसी को गुदगुदी करना, या किसी का मनोरंजन करना। इसलिए यदि उनके प्रचार से, या शिक्षा से, या वचन की सेवाकई से सुनने वालों के अन्दर यह काटे जाने का एहसास नहीं होता है, श्रोताओं के हृदय छेदे नहीं जाते हैं, लोगों के अन्दर उनके पापों के प्रति एक गहरा दोष-बोध नहीं होता, और सुनने वाले अपने पापों के समाधान के लिए उपाय ढूंढने के लिए उकसाए नहीं जाते हैं, तो फिर उस प्रचारक, या शिक्षक, या वचन के सेवक ने चाहे जो भी कहा हो अथवा करा हो वह सब व्यर्थ और निष्फल है; वह कभी भी परमेश्वर की आत्मा से नहीं हो सकता है, चाहे वह कितना भी आकर्षक, या तर्कसंगत क्यों ना लगे, और श्रोता उसकी कितनी भी प्रशंसा क्यों ना करें।

• पतरस ने निर्भय होकर बात की, उसने यहूदियों पर प्रभु यीशु की हत्या करने का दोष भी लगाया यद्यपि परमेश्वर ने उनके मध्य प्रभु का अनुमोदन किया था (प्रेरितों 2:22-23)। बहुत से प्रचारक और वचन के सेवक वचन का सत्य बोलने और निर्भय होकर प्रचार करने से घबराते हैं; उन्हें सुनने वालों या मण्डली को नाराज करने का भय सताता है। लेकिन यह परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति और वचन की सेवकाई के प्रति अन्याय है (गलतियों 1:10)। एक प्रचारक को परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति खरा और विश्वास योग्य होना चाहिए और तब ही परमेश्वर भी उसके प्रति विश्वासयोग्य होगा, उसके पक्ष में होकर काम करेगा। सच्चा दोष-बोध और हृदय परिवर्तन रीति-रिवाज को पूरा करने से नहीं आता (1 पतरस 1:18), परन्तु परमेश्वर के वचन से ही आता है, क्योंकि वही परमेश्वर का अविनाशी बीज है (1 पतरस 1:23) जो हृदयों को तोड़कर के एक नया जीवन उत्पन्न कर सकता है।

एक बार जब रीति रिवाज के पालन करने की व्यर्थता का एहसास हो जाता है, और परमेश्वर के वचन तथा पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा हृदय की वास्तविक दशा समझ में आ जाती है, तो फिर ये अगले कदम की ओर ले जाते हैं, अर्थात जिसको दोष-बोध हुआ है उसके द्वारा सत्य के प्रति, सच्चे मन से और निष्ठा के साथ एक कार्य करना। ये भक्त यहूदी, जो दूर-दूर के स्थानों से आए थे, इन्हें एहसास हुआ कि अभी तक वे जो करते आए हैं वह उन्हें परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के लिए किसी काम का नहीं था। इसलिए अब उनके हृदय छेदे जाने के बाद उन्होंने बिना कोई वाद-विवाद किए समाधान का भी पता करना चाहा। ध्यान दीजिए कि जो परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा दोषी ठहरे थे, वे वापस अपने धर्म की ओर लौट के नहीं गए, और ना ही अपने धर्म के शिक्षकों या अगुवों से इसके बारे में कोई चर्चा करने के लिए गए; वरन जिन्होंने परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति उनकी आँखों को खोला था, उन्होंने तुरन्त ही उन्ही से माँग की, कि उन्हें इससे आगे का रास्ता भी दिखाएँ। यह केवल यहीं पर, इसी समय पर ही नहीं हुआ था, परमेश्वर के वचन में इसके और भी उदाहरण हैं। जब प्रभु से पौलुस का सामना हुआ और जब उसने सत्य को पहचाना तो उसने तुरन्त प्रभु से पूछा कि अब आगे वह क्या करे (प्रेरितों 9:6)। जब फिलिप्पुस ने सामरिया में प्रचार किया तो तुरन्त लोगों ने उस को स्वीकार भी किया (प्रेरितों 8:12)। जब फिलिप्पुस ने कूश देश के खोज को सुसमाचार सुनाया, तो उसे खोजे ने भी तुरन्त स्वीकार किया और उसका पालन किया (प्रेरितों 8:35-38)। इसलिए, प्रिय पाठक, यदि परमेश्वर के वचन ने आप को आप के पापों का दोष-बोध करवाया है, यदि आप ने परमेश्वर की बुलाहट को सुना है, तो कोई देर ना करें; तुरन्त कार्यवाही करें (इब्रानियों 3:7-8; इब्रानियों 3:11-13; इब्रानियों 3:15), इससे पहले कि शैतान शक के बीज आप के मन में डाले और आपको सत्य से बहका के, वापस व्यर्थ धार्मिक रीति-रिवाज़ों के पालन में, जो कभी भी पाप का समाधान नहीं कर सकते हैं, फिर से फँसा दे।

Things Related to Christian Living – 3

Conviction by The Holy Spirit & The Word

In the last article we saw that devout Jews from various parts of the world had gathered in Jerusalem to fulfill the religious feasts and rituals prescribed in the Law, to please God. On the day of Pentecost, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Peter preached the gospel to them, and many of those devout Jews were cut to their hearts. They realized that to be saved, other than the ritualistic fulfilling of the Law that they had been carrying on, there was something more that was required. So, they asked Peter what they should do to be saved (Acts 2:37-38). Through the Holy Spirit, Peter told them seven things that they should do (Acts 2:40-42); and those convicted by the Holy Spirit through the gospel spoken by Peter, believed and about 3000 were added to the disciples. This is said to be the beginning of the Church. From here onwards, these seven things became an integral part of the life of these initial Believers, and as we see in the subsequent chapters of the book of Acts, there was a very rapid growth in the number of disciples of the Lord Jesus. In other words, the preaching, teaching, and following of these seven things led to the people accepting Jesus as their Lord, and becoming His disciples. There are some important lessons to be learnt here, which we will see today; and from the next article we will begin considering the seven steps of Christian Living that lead to growth, in one’s life as well as of the Church.

·        Those Jews were devout (Acts 2:5), yet God’s Word brought to them in the power of the Holy Spirit made them realize that they needed to be saved. All their religiosity and devoutness served no purpose, their fulfilling the prescribed rituals, so far as being made acceptable to God was concerned, was inconsequential. The author of the book of Hebrews said the same in Hebrews 9:7-10, where in verse 9 he said that all of these things from the Law were only symbolic; not even the High Priest who did all this for the congregation of Israel before God’s altar, could be purified by those things. 

·        Their hearts were pricked with God's Word spoken in plain and simple language, with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-38), without any theatrics, or drama, or unnatural utterances, or abnormal body movements and gestures, falling down or jumping around, by Peter or any of the other disciples. The fact is that there is nothing in the Bible to say that any of these or any similar activity is evidence of the presence, or of the power of the Holy Spirit; and neither are any of them required to convict people of their sins.

·        To realize the inadequacy of their religious observances, these devout Jews had to be cut to the heart. Unless this wounding of the heart, this conviction happens, true repentance and restoration by God will not happen. Their fulfilling of rituals did not do what preaching of God's Word under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit accomplished i.e. deep conviction and repentance. God's Word is the sword of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 6:17); it is a sword that cuts deep, cuts fine and cleanly cuts asunder (Hebrews 4:12). All preachers, teachers, and ministers of God’s Word should realize and implement the fact that the work of the sword is to cut - which causes pain; not tickle, or entertain. Therefore, if their preaching, or teaching, or ministry of God’s Word does not produce this cutting within the hearers, does not prick the hearts of their audience, and cause a deep conviction of their sins within them, does not provoke the listeners to seek a remedy for their sins, then whatever the preacher, or teachers, or ministers may say and do, it is vain and infructuous; it cannot be in the power of God's Holy Spirit, no matter how attractive and logical it may seem, and how much it may be appreciated by the audience. 

·        Peter spoke boldly, openly accusing the Jews of murdering the Lord Jesus, despite His being attested by God amongst them (Acts 2:22-23). Many preachers and ministers are afraid of preaching the truth or preaching boldly, for fear of annoying the congregation - but that is injustice to God's Word and to the ministry (Galatians 1:10). A preacher should be honest and faithful to God's Word; and then God will be faithful to him, act on his behalf. True conviction and conversion come not by fulfilling rituals (1 Peter 1:18) but from God's Word; and that alone, i.e., the incorruptible seed 1 Peter 1:23 can break hearts and create a new life. 

Once there is a realization of the vanity of ritualistic observances, a conviction by God's Word and Holy Spirit of the actual state of the hearts, then it leads to the next step, i.e., an action by the convicted in favor of the truth - an honest and sincere action. Now these devout Jews from places far and wide had realized that all that they had been doing so far was of no use to make them acceptable to God. Therefore, they, being cut to the heart, now sought the remedy, without waiting to ponder over it. Take note, those who were convicted by the Word of God did not go back to their religion or to the teachers of religion to discuss it over with them, but they immediately appealed to those who had opened their eyes to God's Word; who had convicted them, to show them the way forward. This was not the only time we see this in God’s Word; Paul, when confronted by the Lord and realizing the truth immediately asked the Lord what to do (Acts 9:6); when Phillip preached in Samaria, the people acted on it (Acts 8:12); when Phillip preached to the Ethiopian eunuch, he did likewise (Acts 8:35-38). Therefore, dear Reader, when you hear the Lord's call, do not delay - take immediate action (Hebrews 3:7-8; Hebrews 3:11-13; Hebrews 3:15) before the devil sows doubt and beguiles you away from the truth, takes you back into vain religious observances that can never provide a remedy for your sin.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
