       पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि प्रभु के शिष्यों ने, जिनके साथ उसने फसह का भोज मनाया था, और प्रभु की मेज़ की स्थापना की थी, वे प्रभु के प्रति आज्ञाकारी एवं प्रतिबद्ध थे। प्रभु ने उन्हें जैसे निर्देश दिए थे, उन्होंने वैसे ही जाकर फसह के भोज की तैयारी की, उनमें से किसी ने भी अपनी ओर से न तो कोई सुझाव दिया, और न ही किसी ने उन निर्देशों के पालन में किसी प्रकार का कोई परिवर्तन या 'सुधार' किया।  उन्होंने बिना उन निर्देशों पर कोई सन्देह या प्रश्न किए, उन्हें बस सीधे से स्वीकार कर लिया और उनका पालन किया - चाहे वे उन्हें समझ पाए थे अथवा नहीं। आज हम प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वालों के लिए, प्रभु यीशु तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति इसी आज्ञाकारिता एवं प्रतिबद्धता के बारे में  कुछ और देखेंगे।

       यही शिष्यता का, प्रभु को समर्पित होने का, उसके प्रति और उसके वचन के प्रति आज्ञाकारी होने का अर्थ है। हमने निर्गमन 12:15-20 के खण्ड के अध्ययन के दौरान देखा था कि परमेश्वर उसकी आराधना और उपासना के लिए कुछ बातों के प्रति बहुत दृढ़ है; उसने जो और जैसा कहा है, उसे ठीक वैसा ही किया जाना है। चाहे फसह हो, या मिलापवाला तंबू, या मंदिर, या व्यवस्था के पर्व, भेंट, बलिदान और अनुष्ठान आदि हों, परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक के लिए विस्तार से निर्देश दिए, कि उसके लोगों को क्या और कैसे करने है। उसने कुछ भी लोगों के अपने विचार अथवा कल्पना पर नहीं छोड़ा। परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य रीति से करने के लिए सभी को वैसे ही करना था जैसा परमेश्वर ने आज्ञा दी थी कि किया जाए; अन्यथा वह आराधना परमेश्वर को ग्रहण नहीं होती, और व्यर्थ हो जाती (मत्ती 15:9)। यहाँ पर हम देखते हैं कि शिष्यों को फसह की तैयारी भी प्रभु द्वारा चुने हुए स्थान पर ही करनी थी, प्रभु के निर्देशों के अनुसार ही उन्हें उस स्थान पर पहुँचना था और कहे गए के अनुसार तैयारी करनी थी। प्रभु यीशु ने शिष्यों को उस घर तक पहुँचने के लिए उन्हें कोई पता नहीं बताया, लेकिन वहाँ पहुँचने की एक विधि बताई; यदि उन्होंने प्रभु के कहे के अनुसार तुरन्त नहीं किया होता, तो वे घड़ा लेकर जा रहे उस आदमी से नहीं मिल पाते, और फिर उनके लिए उसके बाद की सारी बात बिगड़ जाती। किन्तु उनकी आज्ञाकारिता ने यह सुनिश्चित कर दिया कि सब कुछ ठीक से हो जाए। इससे शिष्यों का विश्वास भी दृढ़ हुआ, वे प्रभु के साथ घनिष्ठता का समय बिता सके, और प्रभु से कई बातें सीख सके, जिन्हें हम आगे देखेंगे।

        प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने का अर्थ है प्रभु के प्रति आज्ञाकारी होना, चाहे बात समझ में न आए, या फिर अटपटी, कठिन या असंभव ही क्यों न लगे। कोई भी प्रभु और उसके वचन, उसके निर्देशों को हल्के में नहीं ले सकता है, अपनी मन-मर्जी के अनुसार करके यह अपेक्षा नहीं रख सकता है कि प्रभु उससे प्रसन्न और संतुष्ट होगा। प्रभु अपनी आज्ञाकारिता से खुश होता है (1 शमूएल 15:22-23), न कि ऊपरी तौर से एक रस्म पूरी करने के लिए, या औपचारिकता अथवा परंपरा निभाने के लिए किए गए कार्यों के द्वारा। प्रभु भोज हमें सिखाता है कि हम हमेशा प्रभु और उसके वचन के प्रति आज्ञाकारी रहें। यह हमें अवसर देता है कि हम प्रभु के प्रति अपनी आज्ञाकारिता की स्थिति का आँकलन कर लें, अपने जीवनों में झांक कर देख लें, और जो भी सुधार करने की आवश्यकता है, उसे कर लें।

        यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

        यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

The Lord’s Table - For Those Obedient to the Lord (2)

 

       In the previous article we have seen that the disciples of the Lord, with whom He celebrated the Passover feast, and initiated the Lord's Table, were committed and obedient to the Lord. They went and prepared the Passover feast, as directed by the Lord, and they neither offered their own suggestions about it, nor modified or 'improved' obeying His instructions in any manner. They simply accepted and obeyed what the Lord told them, without doubting or questioning it - whether or not they understood about it. Today we will see some more about the necessity of this commitment and obedience to the Lord Jesus and Word of God for those who participate in the Holy Communion.

        That is what discipleship and submission to the Lord, deciding to obey Him and His Word means. During the study from Exodus 12:15-20, we had seen how God is very steadfast about certain things for worshipping and following Him, it has to be done as He has ordained it be done. Whether for the Passover, or the Tabernacle, or the Temple, or the various feasts, offerings, sacrifices and ceremonies of the Law - God gave detailed instructions for everything and commanded that His people have to do as He has commanded to be done. He did not leave it to anybody’s imagination, or personal preferences. To worship God acceptably, everybody had to do it in the manner given by God, else the worship was not acceptable to God; it was vain worship (Matthew 15:9). We see here that even the preparation of the Passover by the disciples had to be done at the place the Lord had chosen, and they had to reach there to prepare in the manner the Lord told them to. The Lord Jesus did not give them the address of the house, but gave them a way of reaching there; had they not obeyed it properly, they would have missed out meeting the man carrying the pitcher, and everything else after that would have fallen apart for them. But their obedience ensured that all went well. Therefore, the disciple’s faith was strengthened and they could have a time of close fellowship with the Lord, learn many things, as we will see later.

        Partaking of the Holy Communion demands being obedient to the Lord, even if the thing seems difficult to understand or do. One cannot treat the Lord and His Word casually, and do according to one’s own whims, and then expect the Lord to be pleased and happy with that. It is obedience to the Lord that makes Him happy (1 Samuel 15:22-23), not the doing of things in a ritualistic and superficial manner, as a formality or a tradition. The Holy Communion teaches us to be obedient to the Lord and His Word. It gives us an opportunity to examine our lives and check on our state of obedience to the Lord and His Word, and rectify what needs to be corrected in our lives.

       If you are a Christian Believer, and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

        If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

       पिछले लेख से हमने नए नियम से प्रभु भोज के बारे में सीखना आरंभ किया है। चारों सुसमाचारों में,  मत्ती 26, मरकुस 14, लूका 22, और यूहन्ना 13 में, प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा फसह को मनाते हुए अपने शिष्यों के लिए प्रभु की मेज़ के स्थापित किए जाने के वृतांत दिए गए हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने मत्ती 26:17 से देखा था कि किस प्रकार से प्रभु भोज यह दिखाता है कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य एक “परिवार” हैं; “परिवार” जैसा कि प्रभु यीशु ने मरकुस 3:35 में परिभाषित किया है। परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार प्रभु भोज में भाग लेना हर किसी के लिए नहीं है वरन प्रभु के इस परिवार के सदस्यों का विशेषाधिकार है। आज भी हम मत्ती 26:17 से, आगे पद 19 तक देखेंगे, और फसह तथा प्रभु भोज से संबंधित एक और महत्वपूर्ण शिक्षा को देखेंगे।

        हम मत्ती 26:17 में देखते हैं कि शिष्य प्रभु यीशु के पास एक प्रश्न के साथ आए, “तू कहां चाहता है कि हम तेरे लिये फसह खाने की तैयारी करें?” जैसे हमने पिछले लेख में कहा था, प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के बारे में एक जाना-पहचाना तथ्य है कि प्रभु यीशु के समान ही वे सभी स्थानीय लोग थे, अधिकांश गलीली थे। उन बारह शिष्यों में से कम से कम चार तो मछुआरे थे, उनके पास नावें (बहुवचन, लूका 5:2) थीं, और उनकी सहायता के लिए मज़दूर (बहुवचन, मरकुस 1:20) भी थे। इससे हम अंदाज़ा लगा सकते हैं कि चाहे वे बहुत संपन्न न भी हों, किन्तु आर्थिक स्थिति के अनुसार उनके हाल खराब भी नहीं थे। साथ ही, शिष्यों के प्रश्न के उत्तर में प्रभु ने इन्हीं मछुआरों, पतरस और यूहन्ना को भेजा (लूका 22:8) कि जाकर फसह को तैयार करें। लेकिन न तो पतरस ने, और न ही यूहन्ना ने, या किसी अन्य शिष्य ने यह सोचा और किया कि जब हमारे अपने परिवार, अपने ही घर में, फसह को तैयार कर सकते हैं, तो फिर हम कहीं और क्यों जाएँ? हम स्वयं ही प्रभु तथा अपने साथ के शिष्यों के लिए फसह का आयोजन करेंगे। पतरस और यूहन्ना ने तुरंत ही, जैसे ही प्रभु ने उन्हें जिम्मेदारी दी, उसे पूरा किया, बिना मत्ती 26:18 और लूका 22:10-13 की अनिश्चितता की परवाह किए, बिना उससे घबराए।

       उन्होंने कोई प्रश्न नहीं किए, कोई संदेह व्यक्त नहीं किया, कोई वैकल्पिक सुझाव नहीं दिए, इस बात से नहीं घबराए कि क्या वे उस आदमी से मिलने पाएंगे या नहीं अथवा क्या प्रभु के कथन पर, क्या घर का स्वामी स्थान उपलब्ध करवा देगा? उन्होंने, जो उनसे कहा गया था, उसे बिना हिचकिचाए, बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए, पूरा किया। और फिर मत्ती 26:19 शिष्यों की आज्ञाकारिता का एक और उदाहरण है, “सो चेलों ने यीशु की आज्ञा मानी, और फसह तैयार किया।” कोई असहमति नहीं, कोई सुझाव देना नहीं, न ही अपने विचारों के अनुसार कुछ करना, प्रभु के कहे हुए में कोई ‘सुधार’ या परिवर्तन नहीं; बस केवल प्रभु की बात की सीधी और खरी आज्ञाकारिता।

       परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता, उसके दिए हुए निर्देशों के स्थान पर किसी ऐसी बात का पालन करना जो उसके कहे से अधिक आकर्षक और अच्छी प्रतीत होती है, दिए गए निर्देशों के अनुसार नहीं, परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं, वरन् स्वयं की इच्छा और लालसाओं के अनुसार कार्य करना, आदि के कारण ही पाप ने संसार में प्रवेश किया, मनुष्य परमेश्वर से दूर हो गया, और शैतान के चंगुल में फंस गया। आज भी मसीहियत में व्याप्त और प्रचलित सबसे मुख्य गलती यही है, कि परमेश्वर के वचन के स्थान पर मनुष्यों के बनाए हुए नियमों, निर्देशों, परंपराओं को रख देना, और फिर उनका पालन करना, न कि परमेश्वर के मूल वचन का। और फिर भी यही मान कर चलना कि परमेश्वर के वचन क स्थान पर मनुष्य के वचन को प्राथमिकता तथा महत्व दिए जाने से परमेश्वर प्रसन्न होगा, और उन्हें आशीष देगा जो उसकी तो अनाज्ञाकारिता करते हैं, परन्तु मनुष्यों और मनुष्यों के बनाए नियमों का पालन करते हैं - जो कि वास्तव में व्यर्थ आराधना है (मत्ती 15:9)।

       अगले लेख में हम प्रभु यीशु तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति इस आज्ञाकारिता एवं प्रतिबद्धता के बारे में  कुछ और देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - For Those Obedient to the Lord (1)

 

       Since the last article, we have started studying about the Holy Communion from the New Testament. All the four Gospels give an account of the Lord Jesus’s establishing the Lord’s Table for His disciples, in Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22, and John 13, while celebrating the Passover with them, using the elements of the Passover. In the last article we had seen from Matthew 26:17, how the Holy Communion showed that the disciples of Christ Jesus are one “family”, family as defined by the Lord Jesus in Mark 3:35. As per the Word of God, not anyone or everyone, but it is only this family of God that has the privilege of partaking of the Lord’s Table. Today we will continue with Matthew 26:17 till verse 19, and look at another important teaching related to the Passover and the Holy Communion.

       We see in Matthew 26:17 that the disciples came to the Lord with a question, “Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?” As we said in the last article, a well-known fact about the disciples of the Lord Jesus is, like the Lord Jesus, they too were all local people, mostly Galileans. Of the twelve disciples, at least four were fishermen, having boats (plural; Luke 5:2) and servants (plural; Mark 1:20) to help them. So, we can surmise that even if they were not very affluent, economically, they were at least in a reasonably good state. Moreover, in response to the disciple’s question, the Lord sent the fishermen Peter and John (Luke 22:8), to go and prepare for the Passover to be observed. But neither Peter, nor John, nor any one of the other disciples assumed and decided that when they and their natural families can do it in their own house, then why should they go elsewhere? We will host the Passover for the Lord Jesus and the rest of the disciples. Peter and John, immediately, as soon as the Lord entrusted the responsibility to them, went, undaunted by the uncertainty of Matthew 26:18 and Luke 22:10-13.

        They did not raise any questions or express any doubts, did not offer alternative suggestions, did not feel perplexed at whether or not they will be able to meet the man, or whether the owner of the house would accept the Lord’s statement and give them the room. They just did what was told to them, unhesitatingly, unquestioningly; and then Matthew 26:19 has another statement of obedience “So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them; and they prepared the Passover.” No disagreement, no suggestions or doing anything according to their own ideas, no modification of what the Lord had asked to be done; simple straightforward obedience to the Lord’s command.

        Disobedience of God, replacing His instructions with something that seemed more appealing and better than what God had said, doing according to one's own desires instead of following what had been ordered, were the reasons of the first sin, of man falling away from God, into the clutches of the devil. Even today, the most common and most prevalent error in Christianity is replacing God's Word with man-made rules, regulations, and rituals, and then following them, instead of obeying and following original God's Word. Yet, thinking and believing that God will be happy about man's word being given priority and preference over His Word, and will bless those who disobey Him, but obey and follow man and man-made instructions - which actually is vain worship (Matthew 15:9).

        In the next article we will see some more about the necessity of this commitment and obedience to the Lord Jesus and Word of God for those who participate in the Holy Communion.

Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed.        पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि फसह इस्राएलियों का एक वार्षिक पर्व था, जिसे वे मिस्र के दासत्व से छुड़ाए जाने की अनुस्मृति में मनाया करते थे। इस पर्व को सभी परिवार जन एक साथ मिलकर मनाया करते थे; यदि कोई परिवार छोटा होता था, तो किसी अन्य परिवार के साथ मिलकर मना लेते थे। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने 12 शिष्यों के साथ इस पर्व को मनाते हुए, उसकी सामग्री के द्वारा प्रभु भोज का आरम्भ किया था।  शिष्यों के साथ फसह मनाने के द्वारा, प्रभु यीशु ने यह दिखाया कि प्रभु भोज को परमेश्वर के आत्मिक परिवार के द्वारा साथ मिलकर मनाया जाना है। आज हम प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से सम्बन्धित इस पक्ष के बारे में कुछ और देखेंगे।   

       हम यहाँ पर यह देखते हैं कि ये बारह शिष्य, लगभग तीन वर्ष से अधिक समय से परस्पर साथ रहने, तथा प्रभु के साथ भी रहते-रहते, एक साथ जुड़कर एक “परिवार” के समान व्यवहार करने लग गए थे (हम यहूदा इस्करियोती तथा प्रभु की मेज़ के बारे में थोड़े ही समय में देखेंगे)। निःसंदेह, शिष्यों में परस्पर मतभेद होते थे, और आपस में बड़े-छोटे होने की भावनाएं भी थीं, जैसे कि किसी भी अधिक संख्या में बच्चों वाले परिवार में सामान्यतः देखा जा सकता है। लेकिन फिर भी वे सभी साथ मिलकर, प्रभु की अधीनता में रहते थे, और उनमें से कोई भी अपने स्वाभाविक परिवार को प्रभु के शिष्य होने के परिवार से बढ़कर नहीं समझता था। यहाँ पर हम उस बात का एक व्यावहरिक उदाहरण देखते हैं, जो प्रभु यीशु ने उनसे कही थी जो उसके शिष्य, उसके लोग होना चाहते थे, उसके पीछे चलना चाहते थे (मत्ती 10:37; लूका 9:59-62; 14:26)।

       यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Only for the Lord’s Family (2)

 

       In the previous article we have seen that the Passover was an annual feast, celebrated by the Israelites in memory of their deliverance from the bondage of Egypt. This feast was meant to be celebrated together by each family; or small families were to join together to celebrate it together. Lord Jesus had used this feast and its material, which He was celebrating with His 12 disciples, to initiate the Holy Communion. By celebrating the Passover with His disciples, the Lord Jesus has shown that the Holy Communion was to be partaken together by the members of the spiritual family of God. Today we will look further into this aspect of observing the Holy Communion.

        What we see here is that these twelve disciples, in their being together and with the Lord for over three years, had come together to behave as one “family”; (we will see about Judas Iscariot and the Lord’s Table shortly). No doubt, the disciples had their mutual differences, and also feelings of mutual superiority or inferiority, as siblings in any family with many children usually have. But yet they all stayed together, under the Lord, none placing their individual natural families over and above this family of being Lord’s disciples. We see here a practical enactment of what the Lord Jesus had said to those wanting to follow Him and be His people (Matthew 10:37; Luke 9:59-62; 14:26).

        Here we have the first lesson of the New Testament regarding the Holy Communion - the Lord Jesus celebrated the Passover with those who were His family, not according to any man’s definition of a "family", but His own definition. As we see throughout the Gospel accounts, although multitudes followed Him around, listened to His teachings, benefitted from His miracles, but despite having done all these things for the people thronging around Him, He did not call or consider them His “family” or His people. He did not establish the Lord’s Table for just about anyone who gathered around Him, casually or selfishly, and spent time with Him for some reason or the other. But He established His Table for His “family”, His people; and He gave those the privilege of partaking from it in future, who would join with Him in the manner these initial disciples had joined, becoming His disciples as these had become (Matthew 28:19-20). As we have seen from Exodus 12, the Passover, and the Holy Communion, are only for the committed people of God; for those who have surrendered their lives to the Lord, to live in obedience to Him and His Word. It is not a ritual to be casually participated in, perfunctorily observed. There is an accountability associated with it, for all who participate in it, as we will see later.

        If you are a Christian Believer, and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

        If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. The Lord’s Table - Only for the Lord’s Family (1)

 

       In our study of the Holy Communion or the Lord’s Table, so far, we have been learning about it from its Old Testament antecedent, the Passover. We now come to the New Testament and will learn from the New Testament accounts about it. First, we will see about the Lord’s Table being established by the Lord Jesus; then we will see about the aberrations that had crept into the Church regarding the Lord’s Table, and how they were addressed by God the Holy Spirit through the Apostles, in the NT writings. As we go along the NT texts and teachings related to the Holy Communion, we will also see how they are in agreement with what we have learnt from Exodus 12, i.e., how and why our conclusions, lessons, and implications learnt about the Lord’s Table from Exodus 12 were not conjectures and surmising, but Biblical facts, the infallible, unchanging things of the Word of God.

        The accounts of the Lord’s establishing the Lord’s Table are given in all four Gospels, and they together present the full picture of the events and their conclusions. Our portions of interest, related to the establishing of the Lord’s Table are found in Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22, and John 13; and, in this part of the study, we will be referring to the relevant verses from these chapters of the Gospel accounts. The focus of our study is not discussing the Gospel accounts to harmonize them, but to learn about the significance, meaning, and implications of the Holy Communion, and the practical application of the teachings in the life of the Christian Believer. Let us now start with the preparation for the Passover, during which the Lord Jesus established the Holy Communion for His disciples.

        We see from Matthew 26:17, that “Now on the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"” The question asked by the disciples to the Lord speaks volumes, when we consider it in context of the event and its celebration. We have seen from the Exodus 12 account that the observing of the Passover was to be a family event, one lamb to be sacrificed per family, and the small families could join together as one, and partake of one lamb (Exodus 12:3-4). We also know from Mark 3:13-14 that from the people who followed Him around, the Lord Jesus had chosen twelve to be with Him, His core group, whom He trained to take the Gospel to the world, and called them Apostles (Luke 6:13; Matthew 10:1-2). These Apostles were all local people, mostly Galileans. The Passover was an important annual feast of the Israelites (Exodus 12:14), celebrated with the family. But here the disciples are not asking the Lord Jesus permission to go to their respective families to celebrate the Passover, and then come back and join Him afterwards. Nor was it because they were desirous of being with the Lord, since He had again reminded them of His impending sacrifice and death (Matthew 26:1-2, 12). Actually, none of the disciples seem to have understood what the Lord had said about His being caught and crucified, they do not seem to be at all perturbed about it. Neither did the Lord Jesus say that He will celebrate it with His earthly family, nor did He invite them to go with Him to celebrate with His earthly family. He had already defined for them, what for Him constituted His family - those who did the will of God (Mark 3:31-35) – and we need to keep this mind for our understanding and future use as well.

        In the next article we will see some more about the Born-Again Christian disciples becoming a part of the household of the Lord.

I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

       पिछले लेख में हमने निर्गमन 12:46 से देखा था कि फसह के लिए बलिदान किए गए मेमने के बारे में दो बातें परमेश्वर ने मना थीं। पहली थी कि मेमने का माँस उस घर से बाहर नहीं जाना है जिस में उसे बलिदान किया गया था; और दूसरी बात थी कि बलि किए हुए मेमने की कोई हड्डी तोड़ी नहीं जानी थी। हमने पहले निर्देश के प्रतीकात्मक अर्थ को देखा था - कि जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह के साथ जुड़ गया है, उसे फिर संसार में पाप और साँसारिक व्यवहार के अन्धकार में नहीं जाना है। आज हम वर्जित की गई दूसरी बात - बलि के मेमने की हड्डी न तोड़ने के बारे में देखेंगे।

        हम इन बातों से प्रभु भोज के बारे में जो सीखते हैं वह है कि जो भी फसह अथवा प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते हैं, उन्हें परमेश्वर के प्रतिबद्ध, समर्पित जन होना अनिवार्य है, वे लोग जिन्हें परमेश्वर ने अपने मानकों के आधार पर अपने लोग स्वीकार किया है; न कि वे जो यह समझ लेते हैं कि वे परमेश्वर के घराने के हैं, किन्तु वास्तव में हैं नहीं। जो भी परमेश्वर के घराने का जन बन जाता है, उसे फिर अपने आप को संसार और सांसारिकता की बातों से अलग रखना है, और फिर से संसार के साथ समझौते का जीवन जीने के लिए संसार में नहीं लौटना है। क्योंकि पवित्र शास्त्र कभी गलत नहीं होता है, बिल्कुल खरा और सही है, इसलिए एक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में उसका प्राथमिक स्थान होना चाहिए (यूहन्ना 14:21, 23; 2 तिमुथियुस 3:16-17)।

       अब हम नए नियम की ओर चलेंगे, और देखेंगे कि अब तक जो हमने पुराने नियम से, निर्गमन 12 से देखा और सीखा है वह नए नियम की बातों पर कैसे लागू होता है, कैसे उनके साथ जाता है।  हम देखेंगे कि अभी तक जो निर्गमन 12 से हमने देखा और सीखा है वह केवल मन-गढ़ंत बातें या अटकलें लगाना नहीं है, परंतु परमेश्वर के वचन के ठोस, अपरिवर्तनीय तथ्य हैं; उस वचन के जो कभी नहीं बदलता है, न जिसमें कभी विरोधाभास आता है, यद्यपि उसकी बातें भिन्न सदियों में लिखी गई हों।

        यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

The Passover & The Lord’s Table - Prove & Affirm the Scriptures (2)

 

       In the last article, we had seen from Exodus 12:46, that two things were forbidden to the Israelites regarding the Passover lamb. Firstly, the flesh of the sacrificed lamb was not to be taken out of the household where it had been sacrificed, till morning; and secondly, none of the bones of the sacrificed lamb were to be broken. We have seen the symbolic meaning of the first instruction - he who has been joined to the Lord Jesus, is not to go back into the darkness of the sins and ways of this world. Today we will consider the second forbidden thing - breaking the bones of the sacrificed lamb.

        In Exodus 12:46, the second thing that was forbidden was the breaking of the bones of the sacrificial lamb. Most of the Commentators have explained this on the grounds that since the sacrificial lamb was to be eaten in haste (12:11), therefore, there was no time for those eating it to break the bones to get to the marrow in the bones. They had to burn the bones along with the other un-eaten parts, and be ready to depart as soon as the call to do so came. Whatever be the reason, it was a prophetic statement for the Lord Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God, for unlike the common practice of breaking the legs of those crucified, none of the bones of the Lord were broken. John has specifically recorded this (John 19:33, 36) as the fulfillment of the prophecy about the Messiah, stated in the Scriptures (Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12; Psalm 34:20). Once again, we see the amazing accuracy of the Scriptures, things stated centuries apart, but accurately fulfilled when their time came.

       What we learn related to the Holy Communion from these is that participating in the Passover and the Holy Communion is only for God’s actual, committed people, whom God has accepted on the basis of His own criteria; and not those who assume themselves to be of the household of God, but actually are not. The person who becomes a part of God’s household, has to remain separate from the world, and not go back to living in a state of compromise with the world and its ways. Since the Scriptures are infallible and accurate; they should have a primary place in the life of a Christian Believer (John 14:21, 23; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

        We will now move to the New Testament, and see how what we have studied and learnt from the Old Testament, from Exodus 12, applies to and is reiterated in the New Testament. We will see that what we have studied so far from Exodus 12, is not mere conjecture and surmising, but incontrovertible, hard facts of God’s Word; The Word that neither changes, nor contradicts itself, though written centuries apart.

       If you are a Christian Believer, and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

        पद 46 पर आते हैं, पद का आरंभ इस निर्देश के साथ होता है कि जो मेमना जिस घर के लिए बलिदान किया गया, उसका खाना भी उसी घर ही में हो। इसके बाद निर्देश दिए गए हैं कि उसके माँस को बाहर न ले जाया जाए। इससे पहले, पद 21-24 में, परमेश्वर यहोवा ने इस्राएलियों को यह निर्देश दिया था कि मेमने को बलिदान करने और उसके लहू को दरवाजों के अलंगों और चौखटों पर लगाने के बाद, उस घर से कोई भी फिर प्रातः होने तक घर से बाहर न निकले (पद 22)। बाहर, अंधकार में मारने वाला अपना काम कर रहा होगा, जितने घरों पर बलि किए हुए मेमने का लहू नहीं लगा होगा उनके पहिलौठों को मार रहा होगा। पद 46 इसमें यह भी जोड़ देता है कि मेमने का माँस भी उस घर से बाहर नहीं जाना था। हमने पहले के एक लेख में देखा था कि इस्राएलियों को मिस्र से कूच करते समय, यदि बलि के मेमने का कोई भाग बचा हुआ तो उसे जला देना था (निर्गमन 12:10); और हमारा आज का पद, मेमने के बचे हुए भाग को जला देने के इस निर्देश का समर्थक है।

    प्रतीक के रूप में, इस निर्देश का नए नियम में तात्पर्य है कि वह व्यक्ति जो एक बार परमेश्वर के घराने में आ गया है, प्रभु यीशु के साथ जुड़ गया है, फिर उसे लौट कर बाहर, वापस संसार में, पाप के अंधकार में नहीं जाना है। प्रेरित पौलुस ने, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखते हुए  गलातिया के मसीही विश्वासियों को डाँट लगाते हुए लिखा (गलातियों 4:7-11), कि अब ‘दास’ से उठाकर ‘पुत्र’ का दर्जा दिए जाने के बाद, अर्थात, अब परमेश्वर के परिवार के पूर्ण सदस्य बन जाने के बाद “उन निर्बल और निकम्मी आदि-शिक्षा की बातों की ओर क्यों फिरते हो, जिन के तुम दोबारा दास होना चाहते हो?” (पद 4:9), क्योंकि इस प्रकार से वे लोग प्रभु यीशु के कार्य और पौलुस के परिश्रम को व्यर्थ करते हैं। इसी प्रकार से कुलुस्सियों को लिखी पत्री के 2 अध्याय में पौलुस उन से कहता है कि वे मसीह में परिपूर्ण कर दिए गए हैं, क्रूस पर उसके बलिदान के द्वारा, और अब किसी भी व्यवस्था या मनुष्यों के बनाए हुए किसी भी विधि-विधान की अधीनता में नहीं हैं। अब उन्हें केवल मसीह में बने रहना और उसी में बढ़ते जाना है, बजाए वापस मुड़कर संसार की बातों में जाने के, जिनमें “गढ़ी हुई भक्ति की रीति, और दीनता, और शारीरिक योगाभ्यास के भाव से ज्ञान का नाम तो है, परन्तु शारीरिक लालसाओं को रोकने में इन से कुछ भी लाभ नहीं होता” (पद 2:23)। फसह के निर्देश, नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों से की गई आशा और उनके लिए दिए जाने वाले निर्देशों का पूर्वाभास हैं।

       अगले लेख में हम इस पद में वर्जित की गई दूसरी बात, अर्थात, मेमने की कोई हड्डी न तोड़ी जाए के बारे में देखेंगे।

       As we draw to the end of Exodus 12 and its teachings related to the Passover, the antecedent of the Holy Communion, we will look at one more verse from this chapter, that again reaffirms what we have been seeing and learning about the Passover and through it about the Holy Communion. This is verse 46, that forbids doing two things to the sacrificial lamb - one is carrying its flesh outside the house where it had been sacrificed has been forbidden, and the second is that breaking any of the bones of that lamb has been forgiven. When we see this verse in its context of the preceding verses, we see that the servants of the house, whether bought or hired, and any sojourner, i.e., a person passing through the area, and not a member of the family, were forbidden from partaking the Passover, unless and until they came under God’s covenant with Abraham, and were circumcised, as we have seen in the last article. Generally speaking, at that time, the servants of the household were considered as part of the family, although not with the same rights and privileges as one born into the family. The forbidding of these “members” of the family indicates that those who were casually or circumstantially part of the household, but were actually not an intimate part of the family, they too had no right to partake of the Passover. From this, for the Holy Communion, we can once again infer, what we have been seeing and saying all along, that no one casually associated with the Lord Jesus, i.e., one who has not come into a committed and a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus, but is associated with Him only because of having gone through some denominational rites and rituals, through some religious formalities and procedures, is not permitted by the Lord God through His Word to participate in the Lord’s Table. The Passover, and the Lord’s Table are only for the actual people of God, those whom not any man, but God accepts as His own, based on His criteria.

       Coming to verse 46, the verse starts with the instruction that the lamb, sacrificed for one household (12:3-4), has to be eaten within that household. It is followed up with the instruction of not carrying its flesh outside. Earlier, in verses 21-24, the Lord God had instructed the Israelites that after sacrificing the lamb and applying its blood to the door-posts and lintels of the house, no one from the household was to go out till the morning (v. 22); outside, in the darkness the “destroyer” would be at work, bringing death to the firstborns in the houses not covered with the blood of the sacrificial lamb. Verse 46 adds to this that the flesh of the lamb was not to be taken out of the house. We had also seen in an earlier article that the Israelites had also been instructed that at the time of departure from Egypt, if any part of the lamb remained uneaten, it was to be burnt (Exodus 12:10), and this verse supplements that instruction of burning, but not taking it out of the household.

       Symbolically, the New Testament application of this instruction indicates that the person who has come into the household of God, is joined to the Lord Jesus, is not to go out, i.e., back into the world, into the darkness of sin. The Apostle Paul, writing through the holy Spirit of God admonishes the Galatian Believers, in Galatians 4:7-11, that having been elevated from being a ‘slave’ to being a ‘son, i.e., having become a full-fledged member of God’s household, why were they turning back to the “weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?” (4:9), thereby rendering vain the work of the Lord Jesus and the labor of Paul amongst them. Similarly, writing to the Colossian Believers, Paul says to them in Colossians chapter 2 that they have been made complete in Christ, through His sacrifice on the Cross, and are no longer under any law or man-made ordinance. Now, all they have to do is remain in Christ and grow in Him, instead of turning back again to the ways of the world, which “have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh” (2:23). The instructions of the Passover foreshadow the expectations and instructions for the Born-Again Christian Believers.

        In the next article we will consider the second thing that has been forbidden in this verse, i.e., breaking any bone of the Lamb.

        If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.
