कलीसिया से बहिष्कृत करना – 6

परमेश्वर की कलीसिया नया-जन्म पाए हुए उसके विश्वासियों से, जो परस्पर सहभागिता में रहते हैं, मिलकर बनी है। परमेश्वर ही ने प्रत्येक विश्वासी को प्रभु की कलीसिया में लाकर तथा एक-दूसरे के साथ सहभागिता में रखा है; न कि यह उसके अपने किसी प्रयास के द्वारा हुआ है, न ही किसी अन्य मनुष्य द्वारा, और न ही विश्वासी द्वारा किसी रीति-रिवाज़ अथवा अनुष्ठान की पूर्ति करने के द्वारा उसे वहाँ रखा गया है; यह केवल प्रभु परमेश्वर के द्वारा ही है। इसलिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे दिए गए प्रावधानों और विशेषाधिकारों के लिए परमेश्वर का भण्डारी है; और अपने भण्डारी होने के उचित निर्वाह के लिए परमेश्वर को जवाबदेह है। परमेश्वर का भण्डारी होने के नाते, विश्वासी को कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी तथा अन्य विश्वासियों की आत्मिक उन्नति में योगदान देना है। इस बढ़ोतरी और उन्नति के लिए कलीसिया में और विश्वासियों के बीच अनुशासन होना बहुत आवश्यक है। हाल के लेखों में हम इस अनुशासन से सम्बन्धित एक पक्ष पर विचार कर रहे थे, अर्थात ढीठ और अपश्चातापी होकर गलती में बने रहने वाले किसी विश्वासी को कलीसिया से पृथक और बहिष्कृत करना। हमने इसे मत्ती 5:23-24 और मत्ती 18:15-17 से देखा है, जो कि मुख्यतः विश्वासियों में परस्पर मतभेदों और कलह से सम्बन्धित है, जिस में विश्वासियों के कलीसिया का नेतृत्व करने वाले लोगों से मतभेद और कलह भी सम्मिलित हैं। हमने देखा है कि प्रभु ने इस बात के समाधान के लिए, अपने प्रेम, धीराजवंत, क्षमाशील, और मेल-मिलाप के स्वभाव एवं गुणों पर आधारित एक प्रक्रिया स्थापित कर के दी है, जिसका निर्वाह भी प्रेम, क्षमा, और मेल-मिलाप की आत्मा में, और बात को सारी कलीसिया के समक्ष लाने के द्वारा ही किया जाना है। साथ ही, किसी भी मनुष्य को, वह चाहे कोई भी क्यों न हो और कलीसिया में उसका कोई भी ओहदा और प्रतिष्ठा क्यों न हो, यह अधिकार और अनुमति नहीं है कि वह मसीही विश्वासी के पृथक और बहिष्कृत करने के लिए निर्णय ले और उसकी आज्ञा ज़ारी करे, औरों को यह करने के लिए बाध्य करे। हर किसी को केवल प्रभु के द्वारा उसके वचन में दी गई प्रक्रिया का ही पालन करना है, केवल उसी को कार्यान्वित करना है और उसी का पालन करना है।

परमेश्वर के वचन में निर्देशों का एक अन्य वर्ग भी है, जो पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखी गई पत्रियों में छितराया हुआ है; जो कि एक विश्वासी को कुछ बातों के कारण अपने आप को किसी अन्य दुराचारी विश्वासी से अलग कर लेने के लिए कहता है। कृपया यहाँ पर बात विषय पर ध्यान दीजिए; अभी तक जो हमने देखा है वह एक ढीठ और अपश्चातापी विश्वासी के गलती में बने ही रहने के कारण उसे पृथक और बहिष्कृत किए जाने के बारे में था; अब, ये अन्य निर्देश विश्वासियों को स्वयं को उन विश्वासियों से अलग कर लेने के बारे में हैं जिनकी जीवन-शैली में, जीवन में, परमेश्वर के वचन में इसके बारे में बताई गई कुछ बातें पाई जाती हैं। दूसरे शब्दों में, ये निर्देश गलती करने वाले विश्वासी के विरुद्ध किसी अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही से सम्बन्धित नहीं है; बल्कि ये विश्वासी द्वारा अपनी ही सुरक्षा के लिये 1 कुरिन्थियों 15:33 के निर्देश का व्यावहारिक पालन हैं। साथ ही ध्यान कीजिये कि इस सुरक्षात्मक कार्यवाही का परिणाम भी 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 3:14 में कही गई लज्जा लाना ही होगा। ये खण्ड, जब हम इन्हें पढ़ते हैं, तो काफी स्पष्ट और अपनी व्याख्या स्वयं कर देने वाले हैं। 

जिस क्रम में वे नए नियम में दिए गए हैं, विश्वासियों को अपने आप को उन विश्वासियों से अलग कर लेना है, जिन विश्वासियों में ये बातें पाई जाती हैं:

• रोमियों 16:17 – जो कलीसियाओं में फूट पड़ने और ठोकर खाने का कारण बनते हैं, और जो परमेश्वर के वचन में विश्वासियों को सिखाई गई शिक्षाओं से विपरीत बातें सिखाते हैं।

• 1 कुरिन्थियों 5:11 – जो व्यभिचारी, या लोभी, या मूर्तिपूजक, या गाली देने वाले, या पियक्कड़, या अन्धेर करने वाले हों।

•  2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 3:6-15 – जो जो शिक्षाएँ पौलुस और उसके साथ के लोगों ने दी हैं उनके अनुसार नहीं करते वरन अनुचित चाल चलते हैं; जो अपने जीवनयापन के लिए स्वयं कुछ काम नहीं करते हैं बल्कि औरों के कामों में हाथ डालते हैं, दखलंदाज़ी करते हैं।

• 1 तीमुथियुस 6:3-5 – जो प्रेरितों तथा प्रभु यीशु द्वारा सिखाई गई भक्ति के अनुसार की बातों को नहीं, वरन और ही बातों को सिखाते हैं; जो अभिमानी हैं, विवादों और शब्दों पर तर्क करते हैं, जिनके कारण डाह, झगड़े, निंदा की बातें, बुरे-बुरे संदेह, व्यर्थ रगड़े-झगड़े उत्पन्न होते हैं, जो इस बात का चिह्न हैं कि उस व्यक्ति की बुद्धि बिगड़ गई है और वे सत्य से विहीन हो गए हैं।

•  2 यूहन्ना 1:9-11 – जो मसीह की शिक्षा में बने नहीं रहते हैं, अर्थात केवल परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह द्वारा, प्रभु यीशु के समस्त मानव-जाति के पापों के निवारण के लिए कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए बलिदान और उसके मृतकों में से पुनरुत्थान पर विश्वास करने से उद्धार मिलने पर न तो पूर्णतः विश्वास करते हैं, और न ही इस शिक्षा को औरों को सिखाते हैं।

लेकिन एक बार फिर से, जैसे कि हमने पृथक और बहिष्कृत किए जाने के बारे में पिछले अध्ययन में देखा है, और जैसा पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 3:14-15 में लिखवाया है, ऐसे लोगों से इस प्रकार से अलग हो जाने का उद्देश्य गलती करने वाले विश्वासी में ग्लानि उत्पन्न करना, उसे उसकी गलतियों का एहसास दिलाना है जिससे कि वह उनके लिए पश्चाताप कर सके; अलग रहते हुए भी उस से बैरी के समान नहीं वरन प्रभु में एक भाई के समान व्यवहार करना है। किसी अन्य के प्रति आलोचनात्मक और कठोर होने से पहले, सभी को इस शिक्षा का ध्यान रखना चाहिए और उस पर विचार करना चाहिए कि, “हे भाइयों, यदि कोई मनुष्य किसी अपराध में पकड़ा भी जाए, तो तुम जो आत्मिक हो, नम्रता के साथ ऐसे को संभालो, और अपनी भी चौकसी रखो, कि तुम भी परीक्षा में न पड़ो। तुम एक दूसरे के भार उठाओ, और इस प्रकार मसीह की व्यवस्था को पूरी करो। क्योंकि यदि कोई कुछ न होने पर भी अपने आप को कुछ समझता है, तो अपने आप को धोखा देता है। पर हर एक अपने ही काम को जांच ले, और तब दूसरे के विषय में नहीं परन्तु अपने ही विषय में उसको घमण्ड करने का अवसर होगा। क्योंकि हर एक व्यक्ति अपना ही बोझ उठाएगा” (गलतियों 6:1-5)।

अगले लेख में हम उन तथ्यों पर, उनके आधार पर विचार करेंगे, जिन्हें ध्यान में रखना और पालन करना प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिये बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Excommunication From the Church – 6

 

    The Church of the Lord Jesus is made up of His Born-Again Believers, living in fellowship with each other. God alone has placed each Believer in the Lord’s Church and in mutual fellowship of His Believers; this is neither by the Believer’s own efforts of any kind, nor by the efforts of any other human being, nor through a person’s fulfilling some prescribed rituals and practices, but only by the Lord God. Therefore, every Believer is God’s steward for the provisions and privileges granted to him by God; and is accountable to God for worthily fulfilling his stewardship. As God’s steward, the Believer has to contribute to the growth of the Church and spiritual progress of other Believers. For this growth and progress, discipline in the Church and in the fellowship is essential. In the recent articles we have been considering one aspect of ensuring this discipline, i.e., exclusion and excommunication of an errant, stubborn, and unrepentant Believer. We have considered this from Matthew 5:23-24 and Matthew 18:15-17, which mainly relate to personal differences and conflicts amongst Believers, which include differences and conflicts amongst lay Believers and Church leaders. We have seen that the Lord has set out a procedure that is based on His nature and attributes of love, patience, forgiveness, and reconciliation, to handle this situation; it is to be fulfilled in a spirit of love, forgiveness and reconciliation, and only after having brought the matter to the whole Church. Moreover, no human being, whoever he may be and whatever may be his status and standing in the Church or Assembly, can decide to decree this exclusion or excommunication of a Christian Believer, and enforce it upon others. Everyone must only implement and practice the procedure given by the Lord in His Word.

In God’s Word, there is another category of instructions, interspersed in the letters written under the guidance of the Holy Spirit; these instructions are about a Believer separating himself from other immoral and unrighteous Believers. Please take note of the shift in emphasis here; while what we have seen so far has to do with excluding or excommunicating a stubbornly errant and unrepentant Believer; these other instructions have to do with Believers withdrawing themselves from other Believers who have a certain life-style, as is defined in these passages from God’s Word. In other words, these instructions are not given as any disciplinary action against any errant Believer; rather, they are a practical protective action to be taken by Believers in accordance with 1 Corinthians 15:33. But also notice that the eventual outcome of following these instructions will be bringing about the shame mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 3:14 upon the errant Believer. These passages, as one reads through them, are quite clear and self-explanatory in themselves. 

In the order given in the New Testament, the Believers are to withdraw themselves from other Believers, or avoid them if they find the following things in their lives:

• Romans 16:17 – Those who cause divisions and offenses in the Church and practice doctrines contrary to what has been taught to the Believers in God’s word.

• 1 Corinthians 5:11 – Believers who are sexually immoral, or covetous, or idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner

•  2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 – Those who walk disorderly and not according to the traditions taught and given by Paul and his coworkers; those who refuse to work for a living and interfere in other’s lives, are busybodies in the congregation.

• 1 Timothy 6:3-5 – Those who teach doctrines and practices other than those taught by the Apostles and given by the Lord Jesus, those who are proud, obsessed with disputes and arguments over words which lead to envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions and useless wranglings, and those who use godliness for gain; for these things in a person indicate his having a corrupt mind and being destitute of truth.

• 2 John 1:9-11 – Those who neither fully accept and abide in, nor share the doctrine of Christ, i.e., of salvation not by any works but only through the grace of God because of faith in the Lord Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection from the dead for the forgiveness of sins of mankind.

But once again, as we have seen in the previous study on exclusion and excommunication, as the Holy Spirit through Paul has had written in 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15, the purpose of this segregation is to cause the errant Believer to be ashamed, realize his wrongs, and repent of them; he is not to be treated as an enemy but as a brother in the Lord. Before being judgmental and harsh towards another, everyone should ponder over and bear in mind, “Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load” (Galatians 6:1-5).

In the next article we will ponder over some facts, and their basis, that are very important for Christian Believers to always bear in mind.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

हम मसीही विश्वासी के परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे अपनी कलीसिया का अंग बनाने तथा अपनी अन्य सन्तानों की सहभागिता में रखने का, तथा उसे परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रदान किए गए प्रावधानों और विशेषाधिकारों का भला भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। जिस कलीसिया में तथा जिन अन्य विश्वासियों के साथ परमेश्वर ने उसे रखा है, विश्वासी को उनके मध्य, परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता तथा पवित्र आत्मा की सहायता और मार्गदर्शन के द्वारा, इस तरह से काम करना है कि कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी तथा विश्वासियों की आत्मिक उन्नति होने पाए। कलीसिया की बढ़ोतरी तथा विश्वासियों की आत्मिक उन्नति के लिए अनुशासन को बनाए रखना अनिवार्य है। ऐसे समय भी आते हैं जब अनुशासन को ज़ोर देकर लागू करना पड़ता है, कभी-कभी कुछ कठोर निर्णय भी लेने पड़ते हैं। एक कठोर अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही है ढिठाई और गलती करते रहने वाले विश्वासी को, उसके ढीठ और अनुचित रवैये के कारण, कलीसिया से बहिष्कृत और विश्वासियों से पृथक करना। प्रभु ने अपने वचन में इसके निर्देश दिए हैं कि यह कब और कैसे करना है। अभी तक, पिछले लेखों में, इस अनुशासन को लागू करने के बारे में हमने जो कुछ भी देखा है, वह प्रभु के प्रेम, सहनशीलता, धैर्य, विलम्ब से क्रोध करने के गुणों को ही व्यावहारिक रूप में दिखाता है; और यह अन्तिम कदम भी प्रभु के इन गुणों से भिन्न नहीं है। 

वर्तमान में हम किसी अन्य विश्वासी, अथवा पास्टर, या अगुवे के साथ व्यक्तिगत कलह और मतभेदों के कारण सहभागिता से पृथक या कलीसिया से बहिष्कृत किए जाने के बारे में देख रहे हैं, जो कि सामान्यतः कलीसियाओं में अलग किए जाने और वर्गीकरण होने के सबसे आम कारण हैं। बहुधा यही देखा जाता है कि जब लोगों में कलह और मतभेद होते हैं, तो वे मण्डली या समूह के रूप में साथ कार्य करने की बजाए, एक-दूसरे से अलग होकर रहने लगते हैं; और वे अपने साथ के अन्य लोगों पर भी यह प्रभाव डालते हैं कि उस व्यक्ति से जिसके साथ उनके मतभेद और कलह है, औरों को भी पृथक रखें, उसे अलग-थलग कर दें। ऐसे में पास्टर, अगुवे और कुछ वचन के प्रचारक एवं शिक्षक, इससे कुछ और आगे बढ़ जाते हैं और यह काम न केवल अपनी ही मण्डली के लोगों के मध्य में करवाते हैं, वरन, औरों को, अन्य कलीसियाओं या मण्डलियों में भी उस व्यक्ति को पृथक रखने के निर्देश दे देते है। इस प्रकार से गलती करने वाला विश्वासी, नेतृत्व करने वाले लोगों के इस व्यक्तिगत निर्णय और कार्यवाही के कारण पृथक तथा बहिष्कृत हो जाता है, न कि बाइबल के अनुसार किसी कार्यवाही के अंतर्गत और परमेश्वर द्वारा स्थापित प्रक्रिया के पालन के द्वारा। पिछले दो लेखों में हमने देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार ऐसी स्थिति में यह भरसक प्रयास होना चाहिए कि गलती करने वाले विश्वासी के साथ क्षमा और मेल-मिलाप का व्यवहार किया जाए; और इसके लिए प्रभु ने जिसके विरुद्ध गलती हुए है, जिसे दुःख उठाना पड़ा है, उसे ही पहल करने और यथासंभव मेल-मिलाप की प्रक्रिया को पूरा करने की ज़िम्मेदारी दी है। अभी तक हमने मत्ती 5:23-24 और मत्ती 18:15-17a से चार कदम देखे हैं जिनके अंतर्गत परमेश्वर के वचन में दी गई प्रक्रिया के अनुसार मतभेदों के समाधान, समस्या के निवारण, और मेल-मिलाप करने का प्रयास किया जाना चाहिए। आज हम पांचवें और अन्तिम कदम को देखेंगे, जब कोई और विकल्प न बचे और पृथक या बहिष्कृत करने के लिए कदम उठाने ही पड़ जाएँ।

प्रभु यीशु ने, मत्ती 18:17b में, अन्तिम विकल्प के रूप में कहा है, “परन्तु यदि वह कलीसिया की भी न माने, तो तू उसे अन्य जाति और महसूल लेने वाले के ऐसा जान;” परन्तु साथ ही, इसके लिये एक शर्त भी दी है। हम प्रभु के इस कथन से देखते हैं कि गलती करने वाले विश्वासी के विरुद्ध यह अन्तिम निर्णय, उसके अपनी गलतियों को न सुधारने और उनके लिए कलीसिया की भी न सुनने के बाद ही कार्यान्वित माना जाना है। यहाँ पर ध्यान कीजिए कि प्रभु कह रहा है कि उस व्यक्ति को “के ऐसा जान”, अर्थात् उसके बारे में ऐसा सोचना या उसे ऐसा देखना आरम्भ कर; न कि प्रभु ने कहा है कि “उसके विरुद्ध अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही आरम्भ कर के उसे...”। इस प्रकार से, और यहाँ पर इस बात को समझना बहुत आवश्यक है कि यह किसी व्यक्ति अथवा समिति के द्वारा लिया जाने वाला निर्णय नहीं है; परन्तु प्रभु जो कह रहा है वह बात को कलीसिया के सामने लाए जाने के बाद, कलीसिया के द्वारा निवारण का प्रयास किए जाने के बाद भी, कलीसिया द्वारा सामूहिक रीति से किए गए प्रयास का असफल होने का स्वचालित, या स्वतः ही लागू हो जाने वाला परिणाम है। साथ ही, यह पास्टर अथवा अगुवे के द्वारा औपचारिकता का निर्वाह करते हुए कलीसिया को जानकारी देकर गलती करने वाले को निकालने के निर्णय की घोषणा करना भी नहीं है। और न ही यहाँ पर प्रभु ने यह कहा है कि इस बात पर मतदान किया जाए और बहुमत के अनुसार निर्णय किया जाए, न ही कोई न्यूनतम मत सँख्या निर्धारित की, जिसके होने पर ही यह निर्णय लिया जाए। 

यह तो सीधे से एक वैकल्पिक निर्णय है, दो उपलब्ध विकल्पों में से एक का स्वतः ही कार्यान्वित हो जाना। क्योंकि पहला विकल्प लागू नहीं हो सका, इसलिए स्वतः ही दूसरा विकल्प लागू हो गया, यहाँ पर उस गलती करने के वाले के लिए “...तू उसे अन्य जाति और महसूल लेने वाले के ऐसा जान” अपने आप ही लागू हो गया। क्योंकि उस गलती करने वाले विश्वासी ने अपनी ढिठाई में, परिस्थिति के समाधान के सभी अवसर गँवा दिए, जबकि सभी अवसर जो उसे प्रदान किए गए वे उसके पक्ष में थे, इसलिए अब उसे अपनी ढिठाई और मेल-मिलाप न करने, गलती नहीं सुधारने के परिणाम भुगतने ही पड़ेंगे। यहाँ पर ध्यान देने के लिए एक और बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी है – जैसा कि पहले के लेखों में कहा गया था – किसी भी मनुष्य को, वह चाहे कोई भी क्यों हो, किसी भी वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए व्यक्ति को, जो प्रभु यीशु की देह और उसकी दुल्हन, अर्थात उसकी कलीसिया का अंग है, किसी भी कारण से कलीसिया से निकाल देने का कोई अधिकार नहीं है। केवल प्रभु, और केवल वही, यह निर्णय करता है कि उसकी कलीसिया में और उसकी कलीसिया के सदस्यों साथ क्या होना है; कोई भी मनुष्य यह अधिकार नहीं ले सकता है और न ही ऐसे अधिकार के अंतर्गत कोई कार्य कर सकता है। यहाँ पर यह प्रभु के द्वारा दिया गया निर्देश है, और उसी का पालन होना है; इसलिए यह निर्णय लेना किसी भी मनुष्य की ज़िम्मेदारी नहीं है; सभी मनुष्यों को, समस्त मण्डली या कलीसिया की सभा को केवल प्रभु द्वारा कहे हुए का पालन करना है। यहाँ प्रभु द्वारा बताया गया तरीका दिया गया है कि इस स्थिति के आने पर, गलती करने वाले विश्वासी के साथ कैसे व्यवहार करना है – उससे अन्य जाति और महसूल लेने वाले के समान बर्ताव करना है। 

सामान्यतः, इस का अर्थ यही लिया जाता है कि प्रभु ऐसे विश्वासी से सभी रिश्ते, सभी संपर्क तोड़ लेने के लिए, और कलीसिया तथा मण्डली, यानि संगति से बाहर कर देने के लिए कह रहा है। यदि ऐसा है तो फिर यह परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों में एक बहुत बड़ा विरोधाभास ले आता है, क्योंकि इसका तात्पर्य होगा उस विश्वासी का परमेश्वर की सन्तान होने से तिरस्कार कर दिया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि उद्धार खोया जा सकता है। ध्यान कीजिए, हर कोई परमेश्वर की कलीसिया का सदस्य तब ही बनता है, परमेश्वर की अन्य सन्तानों की सहभागिता में तब ही लाया जाता है जब उसका परमेश्वर के परिवार में नया-जन्म होता है। और सर्वज्ञानी परमेश्वर, जो, हर व्यक्ति के जन्म से पहले से लेकर उसकी मृत्यु के बाद तक की हर बात के बारे में सब कुछ जानता है, वही उसे अपनी कलीसिया तथा अपनी अन्य सन्तानों की सहभागिता में लाता है। 

मसीही विश्वास का एक आधारभूत और अटल सिद्धान्त है कि उद्धार कभी खोया नहीं जा सकता है, चाहे व्यक्ति कुछ भी क्यों न कर ले। और परमेश्वर का एक अपरिवर्तनीय गुण है कि वह सर्वज्ञानी है, सभी के बारे में सब कुछ जानता है, अन्त को आरम्भ से जानता है (यशायाह 46:10)। इसलिए प्रभु द्वारा कही गई बात “...तू उसे अन्य जाति और महसूल लेने वाले के ऐसा जान” से यह समझना कि कुछ गलत करने के कारण प्रभु उसे अपनी कलीसिया से निकाल दिए जाने के लिए कह रहा है, का अर्थ है कि प्रभु उस व्यक्ति का परमेश्वर की सन्तान, प्रभु के परिवार, देह, और दुल्हन में से हटा दिये जाने के लिए कह रहा है; जिसका प्रकट अभिप्राय है उस व्यक्ति का उद्धार को खो देना। और तब इसका तात्पर्य हो जाता है कि परमेश्वर सर्वज्ञानी नहीं है क्योंकि उसे पता नहीं था कि उद्धार पा लेने के बाद आने वाले दिनों में वह विश्वासी क्या कर देगा, और इसलिए उसे उद्धार देने के द्वारा परमेश्वर ने गलती कर दी, और साथ ही यह भी कि कुछ दुष्कर्मों के कारण उद्धार खोया जा सकता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, या तो ये दोनों ही तर्क अस्वीकार्य और असमर्थनीय हैं, गलत और झूठे हैं; अन्यथा परमेश्वर सर्वज्ञानी नहीं है, उसकी बातों में गलतियाँ हो सकती हैं, उसका वचन अटल और अपरिवर्तनीय नहीं है, उस वचन में भी त्रुटियाँ हैं। देखिए और समझिए कि इस एक छोटी और साधारण सी लगने वाली बात के पीछे कैसे शैतान ने परमेश्वर के सत्य और गुणों पर ही हमला बोला है; और मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़ी गई शिक्षाओं का पालन करने के द्वारा, वे इस शैतानी चाल में फँसकर विश्वासी कैसे परमेश्वर को ही नीचा दिखा देते हैं।

इसलिए, प्रभु के कथन “...तू उसे अन्य जाति और महसूल लेने वाले के ऐसा जान” का यह अर्थ कदापि नहीं हो सकता है कि ऐसे विश्वासी के साथ सभी रिश्ते, सभी संपर्क तोड़ लें, और उसे कलीसिया तथा मण्डली, यानि संगति से बाहर कर दें। तो फिर यह कहने के द्वारा प्रभु का क्या अर्थ है? हम इसे अगले लेख में देखेंगे और समझेंगे। लेकिन अभी के लिए, जो लोग, विशेषकर के पास्टर, अगुवे, और वचन का प्रचार करने तथा शिक्षा देने वाले, जो व्यक्तिगत मतभेदों और कलह के कारण किसी को कलीसिया और संगति से बाहर कर देना अपना अधिकार समझते हैं, जो न केवल स्वयं यह अनुचित कार्य करते हैं, बल्कि औरों से भी करवाते हैं, दूसरों को भी अपने कहे के अनुसार करने के लिए कहते हैं, विचार कीजिए कि उन्होंने कितनी बड़ी गलती की है और औरों से भी करवाई है। और जब उन सभी को जब इस बात का हिसाब देना पड़ेगा, तो उनकी क्या दशा होगी? उन्होंने एक जघन्य पाप किया, और उनका अनुसरण करते हुए, उनकी बातों पर अँध-विश्वास करने वालों ने भी उनके उसी जघन्य पाप को दोहरा लिया। जब नेतृत्व करने वाले और उन पर विश्वास करके उनका अनुसरण करने वाले वे लोग अपने जीवन और सेवकाई का हिसाब देने, और प्रतिफल पाने के लिए खड़े होंगे, तो अपनी अनन्तकालीन आशीषों की कितनी हानि होते हुए देखेंगे, क्योंकि उन सभी ने परमेश्वर और उसके वचन की नहीं, बल्कि परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के नाम में वास्तव में मनुष्यों की गढ़ी हुई बातों का और मानवीय भावनाओं का पालन करने को चुना था।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से एप पापों के लिए पश्चाताप करके और प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Excommunication From the Church – 3

 

We are learning about the Christian Believer’s responsibilities as a good steward of God, after being made a member of God’s Church and placed in fellowship with other children of God, and being given certain provisions and privileges by God. In obedience to God, and with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Believer should live and function to contribute to the growth and progress of the Church and the fellowship that he has been placed in by God. For the growth and progress of the Church as well as of the spiritual life of Believers, maintaining discipline is essential. There are times when this discipline has to be enforced, and some harsh measures may also be required. One of the harsh disciplinary measures is excluding a stubborn and an errant Believer from the fellowship, and excommunicating him from the Church because of his stubborn and unreasonable attitude. The Lord, in His Word, has given instructions about when and how this should be done. Whatever we have seen in the previous articles about implementing this disciplinary action, has only been a practical application of the Lord’s attributes of love, forbearance, patience, and  longsuffering; and this final step too is no different.

Presently, we are looking at exclusion or excommunication because of personal differences and conflicts between Believers. or their having differences with the Pastor or Church Elders; which is by far the most commonly seen reason for separation and segregation in the Churches. Very often the people having mutual differences just decide to stay away from each other in the congregational activities, and they may even influence their own group to stay away or not communicate with the person that they have their differences with. The Pastors, Elders and some preachers and teachers of God’s Word often go one step further, and not only get this separation and segregation done in their own congregation, but also convey for this to be done in other congregations as well. Thus, the errant Believer, because of these people in leadership positions is effectively excluded or excommunicated, because of a personal action and not any Bible based action, i.e., without the God given process being followed. In the previous two articles we have seen that Biblically, there should be utmost attempts to forgive of the errant Believer and reconcile with him; and for this the responsibility for initiating and carrying through the process of reconciliation has been assigned by the Lord to the person who has been wronged, who has suffered because of the other Believers wrong-doings. So far, from Matthew 5:23-24 and Matthew 18:15-17a, we have seen the four steps of trying to have the mutual differences resolved, problems sorted out, and reconciliation effected through the process given in God’s Word. Today, we will consider the fifth and final step, how to go about it when except for exclusion or excommunication, no other way is left.

The Lord Jesus in Matthew 18:17b, as a last resort, gives the permission to exclude from fellowship or excommunicate an errant Believer who has refused to listen to even the Church, but with a condition. The Lord has said, “But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.” We see from the Lord’s statement that this final decision against the errant Believer, automatically follows his refusal to even listen to the Church and mend his ways. Here, take note that the Lord has said “let him be to you” i.e., start considering him or thinking about him in that way; but has not said “start disciplinary proceedings against him to declare him…”. So, here, and this is very important to understand, that it is not a decision to be taken by any person or any committee, but the Lord is stating the automatic consequence of the failure of the collective effort of the Church, after the matter has been brought to the Church and the Church too has tried to have the matter solved, but failed. Moreover, it is not a mere perfunctory informing of the Church by a Pastor or elder and then putting out the errant Believer. Neither does the Lord say to put the matter to vote in the Church and go by the majority decision, nor does He specify the minimum vote percentage to have the action carried out. 

It is simply a de-facto action, where one of the two available options automatically gets activated; since the first part could not happen, therefore, the second part automatically becomes operative; in this case, “...let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.” Since the errant Believer has refused to have the situation rectified despite all the opportunities given to him, and all had been given to him in a manner favorable to him, therefore now he will have to bear the consequences of being stubborn and non-conciliatory. There is something very important to note over here – as has been said in the earlier article, no man – none, whosoever he may be, has the authority to put away a truly Born-Again Christian Believer - one who is a part of the Body and Bride of the Lord Jesus, i.e., His Church. Only the Lord, and He alone decides what is to be done in, and to the members of His Church; no man can take this authority upon himself or act accordingly. Here the Lord has given the order to be carried out; the Lord has not asked any man to take this decision on His behalf, therefore it is not any man’s responsibility to take this decision; all the people and the all of the Church congregation only have to obey and implement what the Lord has said. Given here is the Lord specified manner in which the errant Believer is to be treated now, at this stage – as a heathen and a tax-collector. 

Very commonly, this is taken to imply that the Lord is saying to cut off all relationship, all communication with such a person, and put him away from the Church and the congregation. If this were so, then it would bring in a gross contradiction in God’s Word and His instructions, since it would tantamount to such a Believer being rejected from being a child of God, implying that salvation can be lost. Remember, everyone becomes a member of God’s Church and is brought into fellowship with God’s other children on being Born-Again into the family of God. And it is the omniscient God, who knows everything about that person, from before his birth till after his death, He is the One who places the person in His Church and fellowship with His other children. 

A basic infallible fact of the Christian Faith is that salvation is eternal, it can never be lost, no matter what a person may do. And an absolute characteristic of God is that He is omniscient, knowing everything about everything, knowing the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). Therefore, to interpret the Lord’s statement “let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector” as meaning to cast such a person away from the Church for doing something wrong means that the Lord is asking to make him cease being a child of God, a member of God’s family, of His body, of His bride, because of doing wrong. This in turn means losing salvation, and implying that God is not omniscient since he did not know what this person is going to do in the days to come after being saved, and so, God made a mistake in saving him; and it also means that salvation can be lost because of certain works. In other words, either both of these are untenable and unacceptable arguments, they are wrong and false; or God is not omniscient, and makes errors in judgement, His Word is not infallible and unalterable, there are errors in His Word. See and understand how through this seemingly small and ordinary appearing things, Satan has attacked the very truth and attributes of God; and by falling for obeying the man made teachings people fall into this satanic trap, and the Believers end up denigrating God.

Therefore, the Lord’s statement of “let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector” cannot mean cutting off all relationships and communication and putting him away from the Church and fellowship. So then, what does the Lord mean when He says this? We will consider and understand this in the next article. But for now, think of the magnitude of the transgression and accountability of those people, especially the Church Pastors, Elders, and the preachers and teachers of God’s Word, who take it upon themselves to put away from the Church and fellowship some people with whom they have their differences, and even make other Believers follow their decisions to stay away from those persons – these Church leaders have fallen into this very serious transgression and sin, and have made their blind-followers to fall into it as well. Eventually when they stand before the Lord to give an account of their lives and ministries, both, the leaders as well as their followers, will see so much loss of their eternal blessings because of following man, man-made rules and regulations, and disobeying God; because in the garb of obeying God and His Word they actually chose to follow man’s contrived concepts and their own human feelings.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repenting of your sins and asking the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

कलीसिया का निर्माण – समीक्षा

 

    पिछले लगभग एक महीने से हम निरन्तर इस बात पर जोर देते चले आ रहे हैं कि प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को परमेश्वर ने न केवल अपनी कलीसिया का एक अंग बनाया है, वरन उसे अपने परिवार के अन्य सदस्यों, अर्थात, अन्य उद्धार पाए हुए संतानों के साथ सहभागिता में भी रखा है। परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह से मिले इस प्रावधान के साथ एक निहितार्थ भी है, कि परमेश्वर ने अपनी प्रत्येक सन्तान को अपनी कलीसिया और अपनी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता रखने का भण्डारी भी बनाया है। इस तथ्य के द्वारा परमेश्वर की सन्तानों पर निहित जिम्मेदारियों को समझने और सीखने के लिए हम परमेश्वर की कलीसिया के बारे में मत्ती 16:18 से, जहाँ पर “कलीसिया” शब्द बाइबल में पहली बार आया है, देख रहे हैं कि कलीसिया क्या है और कैसे बनाई गई है। आज हम, जो कुछ हमने अभी तक सीखा है, उसकी समीक्षा करेंगे, और फिर इसके बाद के लेखों में हम कलीसिया के उद्देश्य और हमने अभी तक जो परमेश्वर की कलीसिया और उसकी सन्तानों के साथ सहभागिता के बारे में सीखा है, उसके व्यावहारिक निहितार्थों को देखेंगे।

    पिछले लेखों में हमने मत्ती 16:18 में प्रभु के कहे वाक्य - “...मैं इस पत्थर पर अपनी कलीसिया बनाऊंगा...” से देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार कलीसिया कोई आराधना का भौतिक स्थान अथवा भवन नहीं है, वरन उन लोगों का समूह है जो प्रभु यीशु को जगत का एकमात्र उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार करते हैं। और इस आधार पर, उन्होंने प्रभु यीशु से पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार प्राप्त करके उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने के लिये अपने आप को पूर्णतः प्रभु को समर्पित किया है। प्रभु यीशु द्वारा कहे गए इस वाक्यांश से हमने प्रभु की इस कलीसिया के विषय तीन बातें देखीं - पहली प्रभु यीशु ही अपने लोगों को एकत्रित कर रहा है, और उसके लोगों में किसी अन्य आधार पर कोई भी व्यक्ति सम्मिलित नहीं हो तथा रह सकता है; प्रभु या तो उन्हें पृथक कर देता है, या अन्ततः कर देगा। दूसरी बात उसके लोगों की देखभाल और रख-रखाव के लिए प्रभु की इस कलीसिया का संपूर्ण स्वामित्व प्रभु यीशु ही के पास है; प्रभु ने कुछ लोगों को कलीसिया की कुछ ज़िम्मेदारियां अवश्य दी हैं, किन्तु स्वामी वह स्वयं ही है, और उसने जिसे जो कार्य या ज़िम्मेदारी सौंपी है, उससे उसका हिसाब अवश्य लेगा। अपने लोगों की जरा से भी हानि या उनके प्रति कोई भी लापरवाही उसे कतई स्वीकार नहीं है। और तीसरी बात है कि प्रभु की कलीसिया अभी निर्माणाधीन है, प्रभु यीशु ही उसे बना रहा है; उसकी कलीसिया में कौन कहाँ पर किस प्रकार से उपयोग होगा, यह केवल प्रभु यीशु ही निर्धारित एवं कार्यान्वित करता है। किसी भी व्यक्ति का, वह चाहे कोई भी क्यों न हो, इसमें कोई हस्तक्षेप नहीं है। अर्थात् प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया से संबंधित हर बात पूर्णतः प्रभु ही के नियंत्रण में है, किसी भी मनुष्य या मानवीय संस्था का इसमें कोई हस्तक्षेप नहीं है, चाहे इस संसार में उस मनुष्य अथवा संस्था का कोई भी स्थान या सम्मान क्यों न हो।

    प्रभु यीशु ने अपने स्वर्गारोहण से पहले अपने शिष्यों को जो महान आज्ञा दी (मत्ती 28:18-20; मरकुस 16:15-19; लूका 24:47; प्रेरितों 1:8), वह सारे संसार के सभी लोगों, सभी जातियों में जा कर पापों से पश्चाताप करने और यीशु को प्रभु स्वीकार करने के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु में पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार पाने के सुसमाचार प्रचार करने के लिए थी। अर्थात्, प्रभु का दृष्टिकोण केवल किसी एक स्थान विशेष के लोगों के लिए नहीं है, वरन सारे संसार के सभी लोगों के लिए है। इसलिए प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया किसी स्थान अथवा जाति विशेष तक ही सीमित नहीं है, वरन विश्वव्यापी है। प्रभु संसार के सभी स्थानों और लोगों में से अपने विश्वासियों को एकत्रित करके अपनी विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया बनाने में लगा हुआ है। हम मसीही विश्वासी सुसमाचार प्रचार के द्वारा प्रभु के इस कार्य में उसके सहकर्मी, उसके सहायक हैं – हम सुसमाचार प्रचार के द्वारा लोगों को प्रभु के पास लाते हैं, प्रभु से जोड़ते हैं; और जो सच्चे मन तथा पूर्ण समर्पण से प्रभु के साथ जुड़ता है, उसे अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार करता है और अपना जीवन उसे समर्पित करता है, प्रभु उसे अपनी कलीसिया में उसके लिए उपयुक्त और उचित स्थान निर्धारित करके, उसे उस स्थान और दायित्व के निर्वाह के लिए तैयार करता है, प्रयोग करता है।

    किन्तु साथ ही प्रभु यीशु प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के पापों से पश्चाताप और उसके प्रति उस व्यक्ति के समर्पण की वास्तविक मनोदशा भी भली-भांति जानता है, कोई उसका मूर्ख नहीं बना सकता है और न ही छल से प्रवेश कर सकता है। इसलिए उसकी कलीसिया में केवल वही बना रह सकता है, और उपयोगी हो सकता है, जो प्रभु के मानकों पर सही होता है। अन्य सभी लोग देर-सवेर, अथवा जगत के अंत के समय के पृथक किए जाने में कलीसिया से बाहर निकाल कर अनन्त विनाश में भेज दिए जाएंगे (मत्ती 13:30)। इसलिए हम सभी के लिए अभी यह अवसर है कि कलीसिया में अपने होने के विषय अपनी सही जाँच-परख कर लें, और यदि कोई सुधार लाना है तो उसे अभी समय रहते कर लें, क्योंकि किसके पास समय और अवसर कब तक है कोई नहीं जानता है; इस निर्णय को टालना बहुत हानिकारक, और अनन्तकाल के लिए पीड़ादायक हो सकता है (इब्रानियों 3:7-19)।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Building the Church – Review

 

    For the past month we have been repeatedly emphasizing that every Born-Again Christian Believer has not only been made a member of His Church by God, but has also been placed in fellowship with the other members of God’s family, i.e., the other saved children of God. Inherent in this gracious provision from God is the fact that God has also made every one of His children, stewards of His Church and of fellowshipping with each other. To be able to understand the responsibilities this fact places upon the children of God, we have been studying about God’s Church from Matthew 16:18, where the word “Church” has first been used in the Bible – what it is, and how it is built. Today we will review what we have learnt so far, and then in the subsequent articles we will look at the purpose of the Church, and the practical implications of what we have learnt about God’s Church and fellowshipping with His children.

    In the previous articles, we have been looking at important things from the Lord’s statement, “...on this rock I will build My church…” (Matthew 16:18). We have seen that, Biblically, the Church is not a building or a physical place of worship. It is a group of people called-out and gathered by the Lord Jesus Christ, those that accept Him as the one and only God appointed savior of the world. And, on this basis they have asked for forgiveness of their sins from the Lord Jesus, and have surrendered their lives to Him, to live in His obedience. From this sentence, we had seen three things about the Church: First, it is the Lord Jesus Himself who is gathering together His people; none can become ‘His people’ and join His Church on any other basis or criteria - Lord either separates them out, or eventually will do it. Second, the Lord Himself looks after and takes care of His people in the Church; He alone has the full ownership and authority of His Church. Although the Lord has given some responsibilities for the managing and functioning of the Church to some people chosen by Him for this, but only He is the owner, and will take an account from those He has appointed for any work or given any responsibility. The Lord does not tolerate any carelessness or harm to His Church from anyone. Thirdly, the Church of the Lord Jesus is still “Under Construction;” the Lord Jesus Himself is building it. He alone determines who will do what, where, and when in His Church. No person, whoever he may be, has any say in this. So, everything related to the Church of the Lord Jesus is under the control of the Lord Himself; no person or organization has any say or interference in it, whatever be the status, or respect, or ranking of that person or institution in this world.

    The Great Commission that the Lord gave to His disciples, before His ascension to heaven (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-19; Luke 24:47; Acts 1:8), was for them to go into the world and preach the gospel to all people, to tell them about repentance of their sins and receiving forgiveness of sins by accepting Jesus as Lord and committing their lives to Him. In other words, the Lord’s perspective was not just for a particular place or people, but for everyone in the world. Therefore, the Church of the Lord too is not confined to any particular place or people, but is universal. The Lord Jesus is engaged in gathering His people from all over the world to build His Universal Church. The truly Born-Again Christian Believers are the Lord’s co-workers, His helpers in this, through preaching the gospel. Through the preaching of the gospel, we bring people to the Lord, join them to the Lord, and those who join with the Lord with a true heart and full submission, those who accept the Lord Jesus as their savior and Lord, the Lord then assigns that person a place in His Church, and starts preparing him to take that place and work for Him accordingly.

    But along with this, the Lord also well knows the actual condition of the repentance, faith, and submission to Him of every person, none can fool Him or bluff their way through. Therefore, in His Church, only those will remain and be useful, who satisfy the standards and criteria of the Lord. Else, sooner or later, or eventually at the time of separation that will be done at the end of the world, everyone not truly Born-Again, will be cast out of the Church into eternal destruction (Matthew 13:30). Therefore, for all of us, this is a time and opportunity to examine ourselves about our being a part of the Lord’s Church, and carry out whatever rectifications that are required to ensure we actually are a part of His Church. Ignoring or postponing this decision can have disastrous and eternal consequences (Hebrews 3:7-19).

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 8 अध्याय में दी गई बात के आधार पर देखा था कि मसीही विश्वासी को संसार की बातों और व्यवहार से बिल्कुल अलग रहना है। इसका ध्यान रखना है कि उसके जीवन और व्यवहार से नए या अपरिपक्व विश्वासियों को किसी भी प्रकार से ठोकर न लगे, अनजाने में भी नहीं; और संसार के अन्य लोगों के समान प्रभु परमेश्वर की उपासना नहीं करनी है। बल्कि प्रभु की उपासना केवल प्रभु द्वारा अपने वचन में दिए गए तरीकों से ही करनी है। आज हम इसी बात को और आगे देखेंगे।

    एक प्रकार से यह उसी बात को चित्रित करता और उसकी पुष्टि करता है जो हाग्गै 2:11-14 में कही गई है, कि किस प्रकार किसी अशुद्ध वस्तु के साथ संपर्क में आने से अशुद्ध, शुद्ध नहीं हो जाता है, बल्कि शुद्ध ही अशुद्ध होता है। इसी बात को पौलुस ने भी इसी पत्री में थोड़ा और आगे कहा है, “धोखा न खाना, बुरी संगति अच्छे चरित्र को बिगाड़ देती है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:33)। यह हमें दिखाता है कि कैसे शैतान सीधी, सरल और महत्वहीन दिखने वाली बातों के द्वारा भी बहका देता है, हमें लगता है कि हम विश्वास में स्थिर और दृढ़ खड़े हैं, और इस पर घमण्ड भी करते हैं, किन्तु शैतान हमें बहका कर हमसे परमेश्वर के प्रतिकूल व्यवहार करवा रहा होता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:12)। इसी लिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को बहुत चौकन्ना होकर, और बहुत जाँच-परख कर कुछ भी करने वाला होना चाहिए, विशेषकर जब बात किसी भी रीति से किसी अन्य-जाति उपासना या मूर्ति पूजा से सम्बन्धित होती है। परमेश्वर ने इसके विषय इस्राएलियों को पहले ही चिता दिया था, जब उन्हें मिस्र के दासत्व से छुड़ा कर लाया था, कि वे किसी भी रीति से अन्य-जातियों के साथ संबंध न रखें, विशेषकर वैवाहिक संबंध तो कदापि नहीं (निर्गमन 34:12-16)। इस्राएल का इससे आगे का इतिहास इस बात का चित्रण और प्रमाण है कि जब भी उन्होंने परमेश्वर के इस निर्देश की अनदेखी की, वे हमेशा ही अनेकों प्रकार से गंभीर समस्याओं में पड़ गए। समझदारी और सुरक्षा हमेशा ही अन्य-जातियों की उपासना और मूर्तिपूजा से बचकर और अलग रहने में ही है, नहीं तो हम भी अपने विश्वास के साथ समझौता कर बैठने की स्थिति में आ सकते हैं।

    अगले लेख में हम मसीही विश्वासियों द्वारा अपने आप को संसार और सांसारिक उपासना के तरीकों से अलग रखने के कुछ और उदाहरणों और निर्देशों के बारे में देखेंगे।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

Responsibility Because of Participation (2)

    In the previous article we had seen on the basis of 1 Corinthians chapter 8 that the Christian Believer has to stay separated from the ways and behavior of the world. He should be careful that his life and behavior does not in any way cause a new or an immature Believer to stumble, not even unknowingly. He is not to worship the Lord God in a manner similar to the way the other people of the world do. Rather, God’s worship must be done, only in the manner given by God in His Word. Today, we will consider further about this.

    This, in a way, serves to illustrate the point made in Haggai 2:11-14, how coming in contact with unholy things defiles the holy, and not vice-versa; i.e., the holy does not make the unholy to be holy, but it is the holy that becomes unholy. This same thing is stated by Paul in this very letter a little later, in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits.” This shows how Satan tricks us through seemingly simple, straightforward and inconsequential activities, and while we may think and even take pride in standing firm in our faith, Satan has actually tricked us into acting contrary to God (1 Corinthians 10:12). Therefore, a Christian Believer needs to be very wary, very discerning about whatever he does, especially when it comes to coming in any contact with Pagan worship in any manner. God had warned the Israelites about this soon after bringing them out of Egypt, while they were on their way to Canaan, to not mingle with the Gentiles, and not to make any matrimonial alliances with them (Exodus 34:12-16). The subsequent history of Israel amply demonstrates that by disregarding this instruction from God, they always fell into serious trouble in more ways than one. The safe thing is to always avoid and stay away from anything related to or involving Pagan worship, lest we be misled and inadvertently end up compromising our Faith.

    We will look into some other examples and instructions about the responsibility of the Believers to keep themselves separate from the world, particularly anything related to worldly ways of worship, in the next article.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so – the decision is yours.
