पौलुस से परमेश्वर के वचन के उपयोग और व्यवहार को सीखते हुए, पिछले लेख में हमने बाइबल के एक नए खण्ड, 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1-5 को देखना आरम्भ किया है। इस खण्ड के पहले पद को देखने में, उसकी पृष्ठभूमि को समझने के लिए पिछले लेख में हमने 2 कुरिन्थियों 3:12 में से पौलुस द्वारा कही गई बात, “हियाव के साथ बोलना” के तात्पर्य को देख और समझा था। हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि पौलुस कोई अच्छा वक्ता नहीं था, लेकिन फिर भी पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई और सामर्थ्य से वह स्पष्ट, सरल, सीधी भाषा का, बिना किसी भी हिचकिचाहट के उपयोग करता था, और अपनी सेवकाई में बहुत प्रभावी था (2 कुरिन्थियों 10:1, 10)। यह हमारे सामने परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रभावी उपयोग के लिए एक और पक्ष को  रखता है – पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य और अगुवाई में होकर, स्पष्ट, सरल, सीधी भाषा का, बिना किसी भी हिचकिचाहट के उपयोग करना।

पौलुस 2 कुरिन्थियों 4:1 में परमेश्वर की उसकी सेवकाई के बारे में कुछ और बातें भी बताता है। वह यहाँ पर तीन बातें कहता है – पहली, वह जो करता था, वह परमेश्वर द्वारा उसे सौंपी गई उसकी सेवकाई थी; दूसरी, क्योंकि पौलुस ने अपने परिवर्तन से पहले परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध किए गए उसके कार्यों के लिए परमेश्वर से दण्ड नहीं वरन दया प्राप्त की थी, इसलिए वह अपने चुने और सेवकाई के लिए बुलाए जाने में परमेश्वर की दया और अनुग्रह के एहसास के साथ सेवा करता था; तीसरी, पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई ‘बिना हियाव छोड़े’ करता था।

उसके पहले कथन के विषय, हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि किस प्रकार से पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई का परमेश्वर के द्वारा निर्धारित किए जाने और सौंपे जाने के बारे में अवगत भी था और दृढ़ भी। और इसी प्रकार से परमेश्वर ने अपनी सभी नया जन्म पाई हुई मसीही विश्वासी संतानों के लिए भी सेवकाई निर्धारित की और सौंपी है (इफिसियों 2:10)। इसीलिए पौलुस अपनी सेवकाई के लिए खराई से परिश्रम करता था, परमेश्वर ने उसे जो सौंपा था उसे पूरा करता था (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:10)। पौलुस अपने ही विचारों और समझ के अनुसार कोई सेवकाई निर्धारित कर के, और बोलने के लिये स्वयं ही शब्दों को गढ़ कर, फिर उन के अनुसार काम कर के, उसे परमेश्वर पर नहीं थोप देता था। वह यह अनुचित आशा कदापि नहीं रखता था कि परमेश्वर उसके प्रत्येक किये और कहे गए को स्वीकार करने, और उस सब के लिए उसे आशीष एवं प्रतिफल देने के लिए बाध्य है।

दूसरा, जैसा पौलुस के साथ था, और जैसा उसने 1 कुरिन्थियों 9:19-27; 15:9-10 में अपने कार्य के बारे में कहा है, उसी प्रकार से प्रभु के लिए हमारी सेवकाई में भी, प्रभु द्वारा हमें सौंपे गए कार्य के लिए, हमें भी कभी इस तथ्य को नहीं भुलाना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर ने अपनी दया में होकर हमें बचाया है, अपनी करुणा और अनुग्रह में हमें अनन्त काल के विनाश से खींच कर निकाला है। साथ ही, यद्यपि हम अपने किसी भी कार्य, किसी भी योग्यता से परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न नहीं कर सकते थे, हमारे ‘धार्मिकता के कार्य’ भी उसकी दृष्टि में मैले चिथड़ों के समान हैं (यशायाह 64:6) और यद्यपि हमारी स्वाभाविक मनसा भला नहीं बल्कि केवल बुरा ही करने की रहती है (भजन 53:2-3; सभोपदेशक 9:3), फिर भी परमेश्वर ने हमें अपने कार्य के लिए उपयोग करने के लिए चुना है। इसीलिए, यह हमारे लिए अनिवार्य है कि हम अपनी सेवकाई को परिश्रम और खराई से करें, जैसे पौलुस किया करता था, न कि लापरवाही से उसे हल्के में लेते हुए। जो लोग उसके द्वारा दिए गए वरदानों और सामर्थ्य के प्रति लापरवाह रहते हैं, उन्हें उपयुक्त रीति से उपयोग नहीं करते हैं, परमेश्वर फिर उनका मार्गदर्शन भी नहीं करता है, तथा उन्हें और अधिक सामर्थ्य भी प्रदान नहीं करता है। इसीलिए, पौलुस के समान, हमें भी परमेश्वर और उसके वचन के साथ समय बिताने वाला, और हमें सौंपे गए कार्यों को खरे प्रयासों के साथ पूरा करने वाला होना चाहिए।

तीसरा, परमेश्वर के लिए हमारी सेवकाई, किसी न किसी रीति से शैतान और उसकी सामर्थ्य के साथ एक युद्ध है (इफिसियों 6:12), और प्रभु की सेवकाई के दौरान हमें क्लेशों और समस्याओं में से होकर निकलना ही पड़ेगा (फिलिप्पियों 1:29); यह कभी भी सहज और आरामदेह नहीं होगी। शैतान की शक्तियों के विरुद्ध हमारे संघर्ष में, निराशा, शैतान द्वारा मसीही विश्वासियों के विरुद्ध उपयोग किया जाने वाला एक प्रबल हथियार है। उस पर विजयी होने का सर्वोत्तम तरीका है अपने खरे परिश्रम के परिणामों को प्रभु के हाथों में छोड़ देना, न कि परिणामों को लेकर व्यथित होना, चिंता करना (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:6-8; 15:58)। इसका आधारभूत विचार है, हमें परमेश्वर ने चुना है, उसी ने कार्य के लिए नियुक्त किया है, उस कार्य के उपयुक्त सामर्थ्य प्रदान की है, वही हमारा मार्गदर्शन करता है, और परमेश्वर ही आशीष और परिणाम भी देगा; अब क्योंकि सभी कुछ परमेश्वर ही के हाथों में है, हमारे हाथों में कुछ नहीं है, तो फिर परिणामों की चिंता क्यों करना, जबकि वे किसी भी प्रकार से हमारे हाथों में हैं ही नहीं? हमारा काम है खराई और परिश्रम से अपनी ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह करना है; और जब तक हम वह ठीक से करते रहते हैं, हमें और किसी बात की चिन्ता करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Appropriately Handling God’s Word – 18

 

In learning from Paul about how to utilize and handle the Word of God, since the previous article we have started considering a new passage from the Bible, 2 Corinthians 4:1-5. As a background to considering verse 1 of this passage, we had seen about Paul’s use of the phrase “boldness of speech” from 2 Corinthians 3:12. We had seen that despite not being an eloquent speaker, Paul under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit used plain, simple, straightforward language, unhesitatingly, and was very effective in his ministry (2 Corinthians 10:1, 10). This places before us another aspect of utilizing God’s Word effectively – use plain, simple, straightforward language, confidently, under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

In 2 Corinthians 4:1, Paul states some other things about his serving God. He says three things in this verse – first, what he was doing was his God given ministry; second, since Paul had received mercy and not retribution from the Lord for the deeds he had done against Him before his conversion, therefore he served with the realization of God’s grace and mercy in choosing and calling him for His service; thirdly, Paul fulfilled his ministry without ‘losing heart’, i.e., getting discouraged.

Regarding his first statement, we have seen in the earlier articles, how Paul was aware and sure of the ministry God had given to him; as God has given to all of His children, the Born-Again Christian Believers (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, he ‘labored more abundantly’ to fulfil that which God had asked him to do (1 Corinthians 15:10). Paul never devised his own plans and ideas, nor the words he would say, then worked according to them, imposing them upon God for acceptance. Paul never labored with the assumption that God is under some kind of compulsion to accept whatever he spoke or did on his own, and will necessarily have to bless and reward him, for whatever he said or did.

Secondly, as was with Paul, and as he states it in 1 Corinthians 9:19-27; 15:9-10 about his working, similarly for us as well, in our service for the Lord, in fulfilling our God assigned ministry, we too should never lose sight of the fact that God in His mercy, has saved us, has drawn us out of eternal destruction in His love and grace towards us. Moreover, despite our being incapable of pleasing God through anything in us, since even our ‘works of righteousness’ are as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6) and although our natural inclination is only to do evil not good (Psalm 53:2-3; Ecclesiastes 9:3), still, God has decided to use us for His work. He has placed His precious treasure in us earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to labor diligently to fulfil our ministry, like Paul did, instead of being casual and careless about it. God will not guide and empower those who do not value His gifts and are not willing to use them worthily. Hence, like Paul, we too should be willing to spend time with God and His Word, and put in sincere efforts to carry out our assignments.

Thirdly, our ministry for God is, in one way or another, a battle against Satan and his powers (Ephesians 6:12), and we will have to pass through sufferings and problems (Philippians 1:29) in our service for the Lord; it will never be a cake-walk. In our struggle against the powers of evil, discouragement is often a potent weapon used by Satan against the Believers. The best way to overcome it is to leave the outcome of our sincere and diligent service in the hands of the Lord, instead of fretting about the results (1 Corinthians 3:6-8; 15:58). The underlying thought is, God has chosen us, God has appointed us, God has empowered us, God guides us, God will give the results and blessings; since everything is in God’s hands, nothing is in our hands, then, why worry about the results that in any way are not in our hands? Our work is to labor diligently and sincerely; and so long as we do that worthily, there is no need to worry about anything else.

In the next article, we will consider the next verse, i.e., 2 Corinthians 4:2.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    Regarding his first statement, we have seen in the earlier articles, how Paul was aware and sure of the ministry God had given to him, as God has given to all of His children, the Born-Again Christian Believers (Ephesians 2:10). Therefore, he ‘labored more abundantly’ to fulfil that which God had asked him to do (1 Corinthians 15:10), instead of devising his own plans and ideas, then working according to them, and imposing them upon God, expecting God to accept and reward them, unrealistically.

    Secondly, as was with Paul, and as he states it in 1 Corinthians 9:19-27; 15:9-10 about his working, similarly for us as well, in our service for the Lord, in fulfilling our God assigned ministry, we too should never lose sight of the fact that God in His mercy, has saved us, has drawn us out of eternal destruction in His love and grace towards us. Moreover, despite our being incapable of pleasing God through anything in us, since even our ‘works of righteousness’ are as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6) and although our natural inclination is only to do evil not good (Psalm 53:2-3; Ecclesiastes 9:3), God has still decided to use us for His work. He has placed His precious treasure in us earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to labor diligently to fulfil our ministry, like Paul did, instead of being casual and careless about it. God will not guide and empower those who do not value His gifts and are not willing to use them worthily. Hence, like Paul, we too should be willing to spend time with God and His Word, and put in sincere efforts to carry out our assignments.

    Thirdly, our ministry for God is, in one way or another, a battle against Satan and his powers (Ephesians 6:12), and we must pass through sufferings and problems (Philippians 1:29) in our service for the Lord; it will never be a cake-walk. In our struggle against the powers of evil, discouragement is often a potent weapon used by Satan against the Believers. The best way to overcome it is to leave the outcome of our sincere and diligent service in the hands of the Lord, instead of fretting about the results (1 Corinthians 3:6-8; 15:58). The underlying thought is, God has chosen us, God has appointed us, God has empowered us, God guides us, God will give the results and blessings; since everything is in God’s hands, nothing is in our hands, then, why worry about the results that anyways are not in our hands? Our work is to labor diligently and sincerely, so long as we do that worthily, there is no need to worry about anything else.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा और समझा था कि प्रेरितों 17:30 के अनुसार, परमेश्वर क्यों मनुष्यों के पापों के लिए उन्हें दण्ड देने में आनाकानी करता है, उन पापों को अज्ञानता के समय में की गई बातें मानने के लिए तैयार है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि चाहे विश्वासी हो अथवा अविश्वासी, चाहे प्रभु का जन हो या न हो, दोनों के पापों के समाधान के लिए परमेश्वर के मानक और उपाय एक ही हैं - वे पापों से पश्चाताप करें, उन्हें मान लें, और प्रभु परमेश्वर से उनके लिए क्षमा माँग लें, प्रभु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता मान कर उसे समर्पित हो जाएं। साथ ही हमने एक और बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी देखी थी, पापों के समाधान के लिए न तो परमेश्वर से किसी को भी व्यवस्था का पालन करने के लिए कहा; और न ही प्रभु के लोगों पर दिन-रात दोष लगाते रहने वाले शैतान ने कभी उन पर व्यवस्था का पालन न करने का दोष लगाया। अर्थात, पाप के समाधान में व्यवस्था के पालन का कोई स्थान ही नहीं है। 

हमारे सामने अब यह असमंजस में डालने वाला प्रश्न है कि जब पापों के समाधान और परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने में व्यवस्था के पालन की कोई भूमिका ही नहीं है, तो फिर परमेश्वर ने अपनी वह व्यवस्था दी ही क्यों, और उसके पालन के लिए क्यों कहा, उसे इतना महत्व क्यों दिया? आज से हम इन प्रश्नों पर विचार आरंभ करेंगे। इन बातों को समझने के लिए हमें यह समझना और ध्यान में रखना होगा कि व्यवस्था की कुछ सीमाएं हैं, व्यवस्था की कुछ माँगें हैं, और व्यवस्था का एक उद्देश्य था। आज पहले हम परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा पौलुस प्रेरित में होकर, रोमियों 7 अध्याय में व्यवस्था की सीमाओं के बारे में जो बातें लिखवाई गई हैं, उन पर विचार करेंगे और समझेंगे।

रोमियों 7 अध्याय से व्यवस्था के बारे में जो पहली सीमा हमारे सामने आती है, वह पहले पद में ही है - “हे भाइयो, क्या तुम नहीं जानते मैं व्यवस्था के जानने वालों से कहता हूं, कि जब तक मनुष्य जीवित रहता है, तक उस पर व्यवस्था की प्रभुता रहती है?” (रोमियों 7:1)। व्यवस्था प्रभुता करती है - आज्ञा देती है, निर्धारित कार्य करवाती है, न करने पर दोषी ठहराती है, और दोषी होने के दण्ड को लागू करवाती है। किन्तु व्यवस्था में दया, करुणा, व्यक्ति की परिस्थितियों और मजबूरियों आदि का ध्यान करने और तब व्यक्ति के दोष और दण्ड को निर्धारित करने का कोई स्थान नहीं है। इसके विपरीत, जैसा हम पिछले लेखों में प्रेरितों 17:30 से देख चुके हैं परमेश्वर मनुष्य की परिस्थितियों और दुर्बलताओं को समझते हुए, पापों को अज्ञानता के समय के कार्य मानने, उनके लिए दण्ड देने में आनाकानी करने, दण्ड से बचने का पर्याप्त अवसर और समाधान देने, आदि बातों के लिए तैयार है। हम देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु ने हमेशा पापियों के प्रति दया, करुणा, और धीरज से काम लिया। जबकि व्यवस्था के अनुसार दोष लगाने वाले बिना किसी अन्य बात को ध्यान में रखे, तुरंत कठोर दण्ड दिए जाने की माँग करते थे। यदि पाप किए जाने से संबंधित बातों का ध्यान रखे बिना, केवल दोष के अनुसार दण्ड दे दिया जाएगा, तो क्या वह न्याय खरा और उचित न्याय समझा जाएगा? प्रभु यीशु मसीह में परमेश्वर हमारे साथ हमारी रचना, व्यक्तिगत सीमाओं, और परिस्थितियों का ध्यान रखते हुए व्यवहार करता है, जो व्यवस्था में संभव नहीं है।

रोमियों 7:5 में हमें व्यवस्था की दूसरी सीमा देखने को मिलती है, “क्योंकि जब हम शारीरिक थे, तो पापों की अभिलाषाएं जो व्यवस्था के द्वारा थीं, मृत्यु का फल उत्पन्न करने के लिये हमारे अंगों में काम करती थीं” (रोमियों 7:5)। व्यवस्था मनुष्य में पाप करने की अभिलाषाएं उत्पन्न करती है; यह कैसी विडंबना की बात है कि वही जो पाप के कारण दी गई, उसी के द्वारा पाप करने की भावना उत्पन्न होती है! ध्यान कीजिए, व्यवस्था पाप नहीं करवाती है, पाप से संबंधित बातों के लिए अभिलाषा जागृत करती है। तब भी मनुष्य के पास अवसर होता है कि उस अभिलाषा को दबा दे, उससे मुँह फेर ले, उस स्थान से हट जाए। क्योंकि अभिलाषा अपने आप में पाप नहीं है, लेकिन पाप में गिरने के द्वार की दहलीज़ है - दहलीज़ लांघी, तो पाप में गिरे (याकूब 1:14-15)। जैसे ही कोई अनुचित अभिलाषा की चिंगारी मन में उत्पन्न होती है, शैतान तुरंत ही उसे हवा देकर विनाशक लपटों में परिवर्तित करने लगता है। उन अभिलाषाओं से संबंधित अनुचित व्यवहार की ओर उकसाता है। और यदि व्यक्ति परमेश्वर के वचन और आज्ञाओं को स्मरण करते हुए सचेत होकर पीछे न हटे, उसकी बातों का प्रतिरोध न करे, तो शैतान उसे पाप करने के लिए उकसा कर, उससे पाप करवा देता है।  

यही आदम और हव्वा के द्वारा किए गए संसार के पहले पाप के साथ हुआ। परमेश्वर ने उन्हें एक आज्ञा की ‘व्यवस्था’ दी थी - अन्य सभी पेड़ों के फलों को खा लेना किन्तु भले और बुरे के ज्ञान के वृक्ष के फल को मत खाना (उत्पत्ति 2:16-17)। इस एक आज्ञा की ‘व्यवस्था’ ने हव्वा के मन में अभिलाषा उत्पन्न की, और वह उस वर्जित पेड़ तथा उसके फल के निकट, उन्हें निहारती हुई पाई गई। शैतान को अनुचित अभिलाषा की चिंगारी दिखी, और उसने हव्वा के मन में और भी अधिक उत्तम प्राप्त करने का लालच, और परमेश्वर द्वारा उन दोनों से कुछ अच्छा बचाए रखने का संदेह डाल दिया (उत्पत्ति 3:4-5)। इस समय भी यदि हव्वा स्वयं उसी के द्वारा शैतान से कही गई परमेश्वर की आज्ञा पर ध्यान कर लेती और उस आज्ञा के निर्वाह के प्रति दृढ़ होकर वहाँ से हट जाती, या आदम को बुलाकर उसके साथ बात कर लेती, तो पाप में नहीं पड़ती। किन्तु उसने परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था, उसकी आज्ञा का नहीं, अपितु, अपनी भावनाओं, अपनी अभिलाषाओं, और अपने शरीर की बातों का पालन किया भी और आदम से भी करवाया भी (उत्पत्ति 3:6); और पाप को मनुष्य जाति में प्रवेश मिल गया। आज भी यह बहुत आम देखने में आता है कि यदि किसी स्थान पर लिखा होगा “घास पर चलना मना है” तो वहीं से ही लोग घास पर चलना आरंभ करेंगे। यदि लिखा होगा “फूल तोड़ना मन है” तो फूल तोड़ने का प्रयास अवश्य करेंगे। यदि लिखा होगा “थूकना मना है” या “गंदगी न फैलाएं” तो वहीं पर थूकेंगे, उसी स्थान पर कूड़ा डालेंगे और गंदगी फैलाएंगे। अर्थात व्यवस्था या नियमों का किसी प्रकार से उल्लंघन करने पर विचार करने, उस अभिलाषा को मन में पालने की मनुष्य की प्रवृत्ति का दुरुपयोग करके, शैतान मनुष्य से उल्लंघन करवा ही देता है। किन्तु यदि व्यक्ति नियम की बात का पालन कर ले, उससे संबंधित अनुचित अभिलाषा को मन में आने ही नहीं दे, या फिर तुरंत उस अनुचित अभिलाषा को दबा कर, उस स्थान या स्थिति से हट जाए, तो फिर शैतान के पास उस अभिलाषा की चिंगारी को पाप की विनाशक लपट बनाने के लिए अवसर ही नहीं रहता है; मनुष्य पाप से बच जाता है। 

अगले लेख में हम रोमियों 7 अध्याय पर विचार ज़ारी रखते हुए व्यवस्था की सीमाओं और बातों के बारे में आगे देखेंगे। किन्तु अभी के लिए, यह अवसर है कि हम, विशेषकर वे जो अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहते या समझते हैं, अपने जीवनों में गहराई और बारीकी से जाँच कर देखें और अपनी वास्तविक स्थित को पहचानें। हम देखें कि किन बातों में हम परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में अनुचित अभिलाषाओं में पड़कर, पाप करने की प्रवृत्ति में पड़े हुए हैं। अपनी इन अनुचित अभिलाषाओं के कारण कहाँ-कहाँ हमने शैतान को अपने जीवनों में अवसर दिया हुआ है, और पहचानें कि उसने कैसे हमें ही हमारी हानि के लिए प्रयोग किया है, हम से पाप करवाए हैं। और जैसा पिछले लेख में देखा है, उन पापों के लिए किसी ‘व्यवस्था’ या विधि-विधानों का पालन करने में पड़ने की बजाए, 1 यूहन्ना 1:9 के अनुसार पश्चाताप करके परमेश्वर से उनके लिए क्षमा माँग लें; परमेश्वर के साथ अपने संबंधों को बहाल कर लें। 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Why can't the Law save us? (9)

 Limitations of the Law (1)

In the previous article we saw and understood why God, according to Acts 17:30, refuses to immediately punish men for their sins, and is willing to consider those sins as things done in times of ignorance. We have also seen that whether a believer or an unbeliever, whether one believes in the Lord or not, God's standards and ways for the remission of sins remain the same - that men repent of their sins, confess them, and ask for the Lord God to forgive them, accept the Lord as their Savior, and submit to Him. We also saw another very important thing, God didn't ask anyone to obey the Law in order to resolve the problem of their sins; Nor did Satan, who keeps blaming the Lord's people day and night, ever accuse them of not keeping the Law. This implies that keeping the Law has no role in the remission of sins.

 

We now have this perplexing question before us that when the observance of the Law has no role in the solution of sins and being made acceptable to God, then why did God give that Law, why did He ask for its observance, and why has He given so much importance to it? From today we will start considering these questions. To understand these things, we have to understand and keep in mind that the Law has some limitations, the Law has some demands, and the Law has a purpose. From today, we will first consider and understand what is written about the limitations of the Law in Romans 7 by the apostle Paul through God's Holy Spirit.

 

The first limitation that comes before us about the Law from Romans 7 is in the first verse itself - "Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?" (Romans 7:1). The law rules - commands, demands and compels that the prescribed things be done, declares guilty or transgressor for not obeying, and enforces the punishment after declaring the person to be guilty. But there is no place in the Law for mercy, compassion, consideration of an individual's circumstances and compulsions etc. and then to determine the individual's guilt and punishment accordingly. On the contrary, as we have seen from Acts 17:30 in the preceding articles, God, understanding and considering man's circumstances and weaknesses, is willing to consider the sins to be acts of ignorance, remains reluctant to punish them, gives sinners ample opportunity to avoid punishment, and has provided His solutions to man’s problem of sins. Similarly, we see that the Lord Jesus always showed mercy, compassion, and patience toward sinners. While according to the law, the accusers, regardless of anything else, demanded immediate merciless punishment. If punishment is given only according to the guilt, regardless of the various circumstances and factors involved in the commission of the sin, will that justice be deemed to be true and just? In the Lord Jesus Christ, God treats us with due consideration of our creation, one’s personal limitations, and prevailing circumstances, etc., none of which are possible in the Law.

 

In Romans 7:5 we see a second limitation of the Law, "For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death" (Romans 7: 5). The Law arouses in man desires to sin; how ironic, that the desire to sin arises out of that which is given because of sin! Please understand, the Law does not cause a person to sin, it arouses the desires for things related to sin. Even then, man still has the opportunity to suppress that desire, turn away from it, move away from that place. Having a desire is not sin in itself, but it certainly is the threshold of the door to falling into sin - if you cross the threshold, you definitely will fall into sin (James 1:14-15). As soon as a spark of an unreasonable desire arises in man’s mind, Satan immediately fans it and turns it into destructive flames of sin. Satan incites man into inappropriate behavior related to those desires. And if a person does not consciously back away from the situation, by remembering and recalling God's Word and commandments, does not resist Satan’s words, then Satan by continually inciting or seducing him, causes him to sin.

 

The same thing happened with the first sin in the world committed by Adam and Eve. God had given them a 'Law' of a single commandment - to eat the fruit of all the other trees but not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:16-17). This 'Law', this one commandment, aroused desires in Eve's heart, and she was found near the forbidden tree and its fruit, admiring them. Satan saw a spark of inappropriate desire, and aroused in Eve the temptation to get something better, and a suspicion that God has held back something good from them (Genesis 3:4–5). Even at this time, if Eve herself had heeded God's command that she told Satan and, decided to obey that command, moved away from that place, broke off conversing with Satan, or called Adam and spoke with him about it, she would not have fallen into sin. But she disobeyed God's Law, His command for them, by deciding to go by her feelings, her desires, and the things of her flesh, and also got Adam to do the same (Genesis 3:6); consequently, sin found its way into the human race. Even today it is very common to see that if it is written at some place "It is forbidden to walk on the grass", then from there itself people start to walk on the grass. If it is written “Plucking flowers is not allowed" then they will definitely try to pluck flowers. If it is written “Spitting is prohibited” or “Do not throw garbage”, then they will spit there, throw garbage at the very same place and spread filth. That is to say that by provoking the human tendency to violate the laws or the rules in some way, by continuing to stoke the inappropriate desire in the human mind, Satan makes man violate the Law, or the rules, and commit sin. But if a person is diligent to obey the rules, does not allow the unreasonable desire to stay in his mind, immediately suppresses those unreasonable desires, and moves away from that place or situation, then there remains no opportunity for Satan to fan the spark of those desires and blow them up into destructive flames of sin; and man is saved from committing sin.

 

In the next article, we'll look further at the limitations and other things related to the Law, through continuing to consider Romans chapter 7. But for now, this is an opportunity for us, especially those of us who call or consider ourselves Christians, to look deeper and more closely into our lives and identify our true standing. Let us examine and find out in what ways we are inclined to sin, by succumbing to desires unreasonable and inappropriate in the sight of God. Let us figure out, because of our inappropriate desires, where all have we have given Satan the opportunity to act in our lives, and also recognize how he has used us for our own harm, has made us sin. And, as seen in the previous article, instead of trying to rectify the situation by obeying some 'law' or certain ordinances, for those sins, we should repent according to 1 John 1:9 and ask God for their forgiveness; and thereby store our relationship with God.

You have to say only a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ, willingly and meaningfully, while simultaneously completely committing your life to Him. You can say this prayer of repentance and submission in a manner something like this, “Lord Jesus, I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself for their forgiveness and because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, you rose again on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God. Please forgive my sins, take me under your shelter, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and submissive heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
