मसीही जीवन के चार स्तम्भ - 1 - वचन (8)
परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा बढ़ोतरी के हमारे इस अध्ययन में हम व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बाइबल की शिक्षाओं, और वर्तमान में प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में दी गई 7 बातों को सीख रहे हैं। हम यरूशलेम में एकत्रित हुए भक्त यहूदियों को पतरस द्वारा किए गए प्रचार में से, इन सात में से पहली तीन बातें, अर्थात पश्चाताप, बपतिस्मा, और संसार से अलगाव के बारे में देख चुके हैं। अब हम प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई चार बातों, जिन्हें “मसीही जीवन के स्तम्भ” भी कहा जाता है, और आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी जिन में लौलीन रहते थे, उन पर विचार कर रहे हैं। इन चार में से पहली बात है परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करना, और हम बाइबल से कारणों को देख रहे हैं कि बाइबल का अध्ययन करना क्यों आवश्यक है। अभी हम जिस कारण पर हैं, वह है शैतान पर विजयी होने के लिए। हमने प्रभु यीशु की परीक्षाओं के उदाहरण से देखा था कि शैतान पर विजयी होने का सबसे उत्तम और प्रभावी तरीका है, उसके विरुद्ध परमेश्वर के वचन का सदुपयोग करना। परमेश्वर के वचन को “आत्मा की तलवार” भी कहा गया है (इफिसियों 6:17), और यह परमेश्वर द्वारा विश्वासी को दिए गए हथियारों (इफिसियों 6:13-17) या कवच में वार करने वाला एकमात्र हथियार है। आत्मा की इस तलवार को प्रयोग करने के लिए, उसे ठीक से और दृढ़ता से थामना आवश्यक है। पिछले लेख से हमने हाथ के उदाहरण से सीखना आरम्भ किया है कि शैतान के विरुद्ध परमेश्वर के वचन को प्रभावशाली रीति से कैसे प्रयोग किया जाए। जिस प्रकार से हाथ में चार उँगलियाँ और एक अँगूठा होता है, और इन पाँचों को एक साथ मिलकर काम करना होता है, ताकि किसी भी वस्तु को अच्छे से थामा जाए, उसी प्रकार से परमेश्वर के वचन को ठीक से सीखने और प्रयोग में लाने के लिए भी पाँच बातें आवश्यक हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने इनमें से दो “उँगलियों” या “बातों” को देखा था, अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन को सुनना और उसे पढ़ना। आज हम आगे बढ़ेंगे, और तीसरी बात को देखेंगे।
3. तीसरी या बीच की उँगली - परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन: यह अनुमान लगाए गया है कि व्यक्ति जो अध्ययन करता है, उसका लगभग 35% याद रख लेता है। पौलुस ने तीमुथियुस को लिखा “अपने आप को परमेश्वर का ग्रहण योग्य और ऐसा काम करने वाला ठहराने का प्रयत्न कर, जो लज्जित होने न पाए, और जो सत्य के वचन को ठीक रीति से काम में लाता हो” (2 तीमुथियुस 2:15)। इस पद में हम न केवल पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा पौलुस में होकर तीमुथियुस को, तथा अब मसीही विश्वासियों को दिए गए इस निर्देश को देखते हैं, कि परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करना है; वरन हम कुछ बातों को भी देखते हैं, बाइबल अध्ययन करने के लिए जिनका पालन आवश्यक है। पढ़ने और अध्ययन करने में अन्तर है। पढ़ने में हम केवल लिखे हुए को पढ़ते चले जाते हैं, बिना उसे समझने या उसका विश्लेषण करने पर कोई समय लगाए। जब कि अध्ययन करने में, लेख को धीरे-धीरे, ध्यान देकर, बहुधा बारम्बार, शब्दों और वाक्यांशों पर विचार करते हुए पढ़ा जाता है, ताकि उसके अर्थ और तात्पर्य समझे जा सकें और फिर उन्हें जीवन में लागू किया जा सके। बाइबल अध्ययन भिन्न-भिन्न तरीकों से किया जा सकता है, उदाहरण के लिए, एक-एक पुस्तक का; या अलग-अलग विषय, जैसे प्रार्थना, उद्धार, स्वर्ग, आदि पर; या बाइबल के महत्वपूर्ण चरित्रों की जीवनियों का अध्ययन; या बाइबल में भिन्न अर्थों के साथ किसी शब्द के विभिन्न प्रयोगों का अध्ययन, जैसे कि ‘भविष्यवाणी’ का; या प्रमुख चरित्रों से सम्बन्धित कुछ बातों का, जैसे कि पौलुस की प्रार्थनाएं, या प्रेरितों के प्रचार और शिक्षा देने के तरीके; इत्यादि।

यह अपने आप और अपने काम को मनुष्यों को नहीं, बल्कि परमेश्वर को ग्रहण योग्य ठहरने के लिए करना चाहिए। बाइबल अध्ययन केवल ज्ञान प्राप्त करने के लिए, अथवा मनुष्यों से अनुमोदन, प्रशंसा, आदर और पहचान प्राप्त करने के लिए नहीं होना चाहिए। यदि इस प्रकार के अनुचित विचारों के साथ अध्ययन किया जाता है, तो वह व्यर्थ और निष्फल रहता है, और उस से घमण्ड तथा समस्याएं उत्पन्न होते हैं (1 कुरीन्थियों 1:26-29; 8:1-3)।
बाइबल अध्ययन परमेश्वर के लिए एक उपयुक्त सेवक होने के लिए करना चाहिए। यदि व्यक्ति परमेश्वर से, उसके वचन को सीखता है, तो फिर उसे उस वचन को परमेश्वर के कार्य में उपयोग भी करना चाहिए। बाइबल अध्ययन का उद्देश्य परमेश्वर के लिए और अधिक उपयोगी एवं प्रभावी होना चाहिए, जिससे परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपी गई जिम्मेदारियों का और बेहतर रीति से निर्वाह किया जा सके।
बाइबल अध्ययन इस रीति से करना चाहिए कि व्यक्ति को कभी शर्मिन्दा न होने पड़े, अर्थात, जो वह कहे, उस में गलत ना ठहरे। ध्यान रखिए, वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाए हुए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी का सहायक और शिक्षक परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा है (यूहन्ना 14:16, 26)। यदि कोई वास्तव में पवित्र आत्मा से सीखता है, तो फिर उसके कुछ भी गलत सीखने की, और फिर किसी प्रकार की गलत शिक्षा देने की कोई सम्भावना ही नहीं है। समस्या यह है कि आज पवित्र आत्मा के नाम में लोग मनुष्यों से सीखते हैं। इसीलिए वे गलतियों में पड़ते हैं, और उन्हें या तो अपनी गलतियों के लिए, नहीं तो ठीक जानकारी न होने के कारण शर्मिंदगी उठानी पड़ती है।
परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन के समय वचन को ठीक से काम लाने, अर्थात उसकी सही व्याख्या करने, उसमें कोई गलत समझ अथवा त्रुटि ना लाने का बहुत ध्यान रखना चाहिए। बहुत ही संक्षेप में, परमेश्वर के वचन की व्याख्या करते समय कम से कम चार बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए। पहली, हमेशा सन्दर्भ में व्याख्या करें, कभी भी कोई व्याख्या बिना सन्दर्भ का ध्यान रखे नहीं की जानी चाहिए। सन्दर्भ दो प्रकार का होता है, तात्कालिक, अर्थात पद या खण्ड के आगे पीछे लिखी हुई बातें; और दूर का, अर्थात उस पद या बात से सम्बन्धित बाइबल के अन्य पद और खण्ड तथा अन्य शिक्षाएं। जो भी व्याख्या की जाए, वह तात्कालिक एवं दूर, दोनों संदर्भों के साथ संगत होनी चाहिए। दूसरी, व्याख्या के द्वारा कभी भी बाइबल में कोई विरोधाभास अथवा असंगति नहीं आनी चाहिए। यदि व्याख्या सन्दर्भ का ध्यान रखकर की जाएगी, तो फिर कोई असंगति अथवा विरोधाभास भी नहीं होगा। तीसरी, व्याख्या करते समय उस पद या खण्ड के प्राथमिक अर्थ, अर्थात वह अर्थ जो उस लेख के उन प्रथम लोगों के लिए था, जिन्हें वह बात लिखी गई थी, का हमेशा ध्यान रखना चाहिए। इस प्राथमिक अर्थ में कुछ सहायक अर्थ जोड़े जा सकते हैं, किन्तु यह प्राथमिक अर्थ कभी भी हटाया, या बदला नहीं जा सकता है, और न ही किसी भी व्याख्या से इसमें कोई विरोधाभास लाया जा सकता है। चौथी, व्याख्या या अर्थ के द्वारा परमेश्वर के वचन में न तो कभी कुछ जोड़ा जाना चाहिए, और न ही उसमें से कुछ हटाया जाना चाहिए। परमेश्वर के वचन में जो, जैसा लिखा गया है, कहा गया है, उसे वैसा ही लिया और उपयोग किया जाना चाहिए; उसमें कोई भी नए अर्थ या अभिप्राय नहीं डाले जाने चाहिएं। यदि बाइबल अध्ययन पवित्र आत्मा की अधीनता में किया जाए, और कम से कम इन चार बातों का ध्यान रखा जाए, तो फिर गलत व्याख्या और झूठी शिक्षा देने से बच कर रहा जा सकता है। इसी प्रकार से, यदि इन चारों सिद्धान्तों को किसी के भी द्वारा दी गई किसी भी शिक्षा अथवा सन्देश पर लागू किया जाए, तो यह जाँचने और पहचानने का तरीका भी है कि वह शिक्षा या सन्देश सही और ग्रहण करने योग्य हैं या नहीं।
अगले लेख में हम यहाँ से आगे बढ़ेंगे, और शेष दोनों “उँगलियों” या बातों के बारे में देखेंगे, जो आत्मा की तलवार को ठीक से थामने और उपयोग करने के लिए आवश्यक हैं।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 1 - Word (8)
In our study on the Biblical teachings related to practical Christian living for Growing through God’s Word, we are presently considering the 7 things given in Acts 2. We have considered the first three, i.e., Repentance, Baptism, and Separation from the world, stated by Peter in his sermon to the devout Jews gathered in Jerusalem. We are now considering the four teachings of Acts 2:42, also known as the “Pillars of Christian Faith,” and practiced steadfastly by the initial Christian Believers. The first of these four is studying God’s Word, and we have been seeing from God’s Word the Bible, why we need to study the Bible. The reason we are now on, is to overcome Satan. We have seen through the example of the Lord Jesus Christ, at the time of His temptations, that the best and most effective way of overcoming Satan and being victorious over him is to properly use God’s Word against him. God’s Word has also been called the “Sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), and it is the Christian Believer’s only weapon of offence in the armor given by God (Ephesians 6:13-17). To use this Sword of the Spirit, one has to hold it properly and firmly. Since the last article, through the analogy of the hand, we have begun learning how to hold and use God’s Word effectively against Satan. Just as the hand has four fingers and a thumb, and all five of them have to function together to hold anything well, similarly, there are five components to properly learning and utilizing God’s Word. In the last article we have seen two, “fingers” i.e., two points; i.e., hearing God’s Word and Reading God’s Word. Today we will move ahead and see the third.
3. The Third Finger or Middle Finger - Study God’s Word: It has been estimated that a person retains about 35% of what he studies. Paul wrote to Timothy “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15). In this verse we not only have Paul’s exhortation through the Holy Spirit to Timothy, and now to the Christian Believers, to study God’s Word; but we also see certain essential points about doing a Bible study, that need to be kept in mind for doing a Bible study. There is a difference between reading and studying. In reading one just reads through the text without spending time to understand and analyze it. While in studying, one reads the text slowly, deliberately, often multiple times, pondering over words and phrases, trying to grasp their meaning and implications, and seeing how the text and its meanings can be applied to one’s life. Bible study can be done in many different ways, e.g., book-by-book; or, by topics like prayer, salvation, heaven, etc.; or, through studying the lives of important characters of the Bible; or, through studying how a particular word has been used in different passages, with different meanings, e.g. the word prophesy; or, studying certain things related to prominent Bible characters, e.g., the prayers of Paul, or, preaching methods of the Apostles; etc.
We see from 2 Timothy 2:15, quoted above, that there are some essential aspects to studying God’s Word, that need to be adhered to. The aspects mentioned in this verse can be listed as follows:
“Be diligent,” i.e., labor sincerely to study and learn God’s Word with a purpose, not casually or perfunctorily.
“present yourself approved to God” Do it to present yourself to God, not men; as one approved by Him. Bible study should not be with the aim of gaining knowledge, or to gain the approval, commendation, or recognition and honor from men. If done with such ulterior motives, it will be vain and infructuous, and lead to pride and problems (1 Corinthians 1:26-29; 8:1-3).
“a worker” Study God’s Word to be a worthy worker for God. If one is studying God’s Word from God the Holy Spirit, then that which is learnt from God, should also be put to use for the work of God. The aim of the Bible study should to be more useful and effective for God, to be able to do the God given work better.
“who does not need to be ashamed” Study in a manner that you are never brought to shame, or found incorrect in what you say. Remember, God the Holy Spirit is every truly Born-Again Christian Believer’s God given teacher and helper (John 14:16, 26). If one actually is learning from the Holy Spirit, then there is no scope of learning anything incorrect; and therefore, of preaching or teaching anything incorrect. The problem is that people, in the name of the Holy Spirit, actually learn from men. Therefore, they fall into errors, and have to face shame, either for their wrongs, or, for not being up to the mark.
“rightly dividing the word of truth” Through studying God’s Word, one should make it a point to “rightly divide God’s Word;” i.e., rightly interpret and understand it, and not bring in any errors into it. Very briefly, at least four things should be kept in mind while interpreting any part of God’s Word. Firstly, always interpret it in its context, and never interpret anything out of context. This context is of two types, immediate, i.e., the immediate verses and passages before and after the text being interpreted; and remote, i.e., other texts and passages at other places in the Bible, related to the topic or text being interpreted. The interpretation should always be in harmony with the immediate as well as the remote contexts. Secondly, the interpretation should never bring in any contradiction or discrepancy in God’s Word. If the interpretation is done in context, then there also will not be any contradictions or discrepancies. Thirdly, always keep the primary meaning of the verse or passage in mind, i.e., the meaning which the original audience understood, when it was first stated to them. This primary meaning can be supplemented, but never be replaced, or altered, or contradicted by any interpretation. Fourthly, the interpretation should never add to, or, take away anything from God’s Word. Everything given in God’s Word should be taken and used as it has been stated and used; no new meanings and implications should be inserted. If the Bible study is done under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and at least these four principles are adhered to, then incorrect interpretations and false teachings will be avoided. Similarly, if these four principles are utilized on anyone’s interpretations and teachings of God’s Word, then it can always be seen whether the given interpretation is correct and worthy of acceptance, or not.
In the next article we will carry on from here, and see about the remaining two “fingers” or points necessary for properly holding and using the Sword of the Spirit.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
