पिछले कुछ लेखों में हम प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के नए नियम खंड में प्रयोग किए गए विभिन्न रूपक (metaphors), जैसे कि - प्रभु का परिवार या घराना; परमेश्वर का निवास-स्थान या मन्दिर; परमेश्वर का भवन; परमेश्वर की खेती; प्रभु की देह; प्रभु की दुल्हन; परमेश्वर की दाख की बारी, इत्यादि के बारे में देखते आ रहे हैं। हमने देखा है कि किस प्रकार से इन रूपकों में होकर परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने प्रभु द्वारा अपनी कलीसिया, अर्थात, अपने सच्चे और समर्पित शिष्यों का धर्मी और पवित्र किए जाना, परमेश्वर के साथ कलीसिया के संबंध, संगति, एवं सहभागिता की बहाली, तथा कलीसिया के लोगों के व्यवहार और जीवनों में परमेश्वर के प्रयोजन, उन से उसकी अपेक्षाएं, आदि को समझाया है। यहाँ पर ये रूपक किसी विशिष्ट क्रम, आधार, अथवा रीति से सूची-बद्ध नहीं किए गए हैं। कलीसिया के लिए बाइबल में प्रयोग किए गए सभी रूपक समान रीति से, एक सच्चे, समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी मसीही विश्वासी के प्रभु यीशु और पिता परमेश्वर के साथ संबंध को, तथा उसके मसीही जीवन, और दायित्वों के विभिन्न पहलुओं को दिखाते हैं; सभी रूपक समान ही महत्वपूर्ण हैं, सभी में मसीही जीवन से संबंधित कुछ आवश्यक शिक्षाएं हैं।

साथ ही, इन सभी रूपकों में एक और सामान्य बात है कि प्रत्येक रूपक यह भी बिलकुल स्पष्ट और निश्चित कर देता है कि कोई भी व्यक्ति किसी भी प्रकार के किसी भी मानवीय प्रयोजन, कार्य, मान्यता या धारणा के निर्वाह आदि के द्वारा, अपनी अथवा किसी अन्य मनुष्य की ओर से परमेश्वर की कलीसिया का सदस्य बन ही नहीं सकता है; वह चाहे कितने भी और कैसे भी प्रयास अथवा दावे क्यों न कर ले। अगर व्यक्ति प्रभु यीशु की कलीसिया का सदस्य होगा, तो वह केवल प्रभु की इच्छा से, उसके माप-दंडों के आधार पर, उसकी स्वीकृति से होगा, अन्यथा कोई चाहे कुछ भी कहता रहे, वह चाहे किसी ‘मानवीय कलीसिया’ अथवा किसी ‘संस्थागत कलीसिया’ का सदस्य हो जाए, किन्तु प्रभु की वास्तविक कलीसिया का सदस्य हो ही नहीं सकता है। और यदि वह अपने आप को प्रभु की कलीसिया का सदस्य समझता या कहता भी है, तो भी प्रभु उसकी वास्तविकता देर-सवेर प्रकट कर देगा, और अन्ततः वह अनन्त विनाश के लिए प्रभु की कलीसिया से पृथक कर दिया जाएगा। इसलिए अपने आप को मसीही विश्वासी कहने वाले प्रत्येक जन के लिए अभी समय और अवसर है कि अभी अपने ‘मसीही विश्वासी’ होने के आधार एवं वास्तविक स्थिति को भली-भांति जाँच-परख कर, उचित कदम उठा ले और प्रभु के साथ अपने संबंध ठीक कर ले। हर व्यक्ति को यह सुनिश्चित कर लेना चाहिए कि वह किसी मानवीय कलीसिया अथवा किसी संस्थागत कलीसिया का नहीं, परंतु प्रभु यीशु की वास्तविक कलीसिया का सदस्य है।

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दी गई “कलीसिया” शब्द की समझ और अभिप्राय जानना और समझना प्रत्येक उस जन के लिए जो अपने आप को ईसाई, या मसीही, या मसीही विश्वासी कहता है, अनिवार्य है। क्योंकि वह व्यक्ति इस पृथ्वी के किस मत, समुदाय, डिनॉमिनेशन से संबंध रखता है; या पृथ्वी पर उसकी सदस्यता किस मत, समुदाय, डिनॉमिनेशन में है, और उस मत, समुदाय, डिनॉमिनेशन के अगुवे और वहाँ उस व्यक्ति के साथ के अन्य लोग उस व्यक्ति के बारे में क्या राय रखते हैं, आदि बातों का उस व्यक्ति के परलोक के अनन्त जीवन पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ेगा। जिस एकमात्र बात का प्रभाव पड़ेगा, और जो उस व्यक्ति के अनन्त काल के स्थान को निर्धारित करेगी वह है उस व्यक्ति का प्रभु यीशु मसीह के साथ व्यक्तिगत संबंध, जैसा हम पहले से कहते और बल देते चले आ रहे हैं। प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने मत्ती 22:1-16 में परमेश्वर के राज्य और अन्त के समय होने वाली छँटाई के विषय एक दृष्टांत कहा - एक राजा ने अपने पुत्र के विवाह के उपलक्ष्य में एक बड़ा भोज आयोजित किया, किन्तु निमंत्रित लोगों ने आने में आनाकानी की। तब राजा ने नगर के मार्गों, चौराहों, आदि स्थानों से सभी लोगों को भोज के लिए बुलाया। जब राजा भोज के स्थान पर आया तो देखा कि उन बुलाए गए लोगों में से एक ऐसा था, जो राजा द्वारा प्रदान किए गए भोज के वस्त्र को पहने बिना अंदर चला आया था। राजा की आज्ञा से इस व्यक्ति को बाहर निकाल दिया गया, अँधियारे में, पीड़ा के स्थान में डाल दिया गया। इस दृष्टांत के अन्त में प्रभु यीशु ने निष्कर्ष के रूप में कहा, क्योंकि बुलाए हुए तो बहुत परन्तु चुने हुए थोड़े हैं (मत्ती 22:14)। उस व्यक्ति का भोज के भीतरी स्थान तक पहुँच जाने ने उसके लिए इस बात को निश्चित नहीं किया कि वह भोज में भाग भी लेने पाएगा। जब वह भोज के लिए उपयुक्त वस्त्रों के बिना पाया गया, तो उसे निकाल बाहर किया गया। यदि आपने प्रभु द्वारा दिए गए उद्धार के वस्त्र नहीं पहने हैं तो आप भी वैसे ही खतरे में हैं; समय रहते सुधार कर लें, कहीं बहुत देर न हो जाए।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

The Church of the Lord Jesus – Lessons from the Metaphors

We have been considering the various metaphors given in the New Testament section of the Word of God the Bible, for the Church of God, e.g., the Family of the Lord; the Temple or Dwelling place of God; House of God; the Field of God; The Body of the Lord; the Bride of the Lord; the Vineyard of God, etc. We have seen how through these metaphors God the Holy Spirit has shown and explained about the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, i.e., about those who are His truly surrendered and committed people being made pure and holy, their relationship with the Lord, the restoration of His people to fellowship with God, the life and behavior of the people of the Church, and God’s expectations from them, His work in their lives etc. We are not considering these metaphors in any particular order. All of the metaphors, in an equal measure and importance, teach about the various aspects of the relationship with God, Christian life, the responsibilities of a true, fully surrendered, obedient Christian Believer. All metaphors are equally important, and every one of them teaches some important thing or the other about the Believer's Christian living.

Every metaphor also makes it very clear and evident that no person can become a member of the Lord’s Church through any human agency - whether self or of anyone else, on the basis of works, criteria, notions etc., no matter who he may be or how much he may try to join the Lord’s Church. If anyone joins the Church of the Lord, it will only be according to the will, standards, criteria, and acceptance by the Lord. Other than this anyone may keep saying, doing, and claiming whatever they may; he will never actually be or become a member of the Lord’s Church. Even if he considers himself to be and claims his being a member, sooner or later his actual state will be exposed, and he will be separated out for eternal destruction. Therefore, for everyone who claims himself to be a Christian Believer, now is the time and opportunity to examine and evaluate their relationship with the Lord and its basis, and if there is any doubt, then have it rectified and come into the right relationship with the Lord. Everyone should ensure that he is a member, not of any man-made or any institution-made church, but of the true Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is essential for everyone who calls himself a Christian, or a Believer, or a Born-Again person to have a proper Biblical understanding of the meaning and implications of “Church.” This is because that person’s association with, or his membership of a particular group, or sect, or denomination, and what the elders and leaders and other members of that group, or sect, or denomination think about him will not in any way affect his relationship with God and his eternal life in heaven. The one and only thing that will determine his relationship with God and favorably impact his eternal life in heaven, as we have repeatedly been saying and emphasizing, is his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ, in Matthew 22:1-16 spoke a parable about the King’s invitation to the marriage supper of his son, but those invited made excuses and did not come. Then the King asked his servants to go into the roads and the cross-roads of the city, and gather together all that they could find. When the King came into the hall where the supper was being held, he saw there was a person who was without the wedding garments. The King ordered for this person to be cast out into outer darkness, a place of torment. At the conclusion of the parable the Lord made a statement For many are called, but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14). That person’s reaching the chamber where the supper was being held was no guarantee that he will be able to partake of the wedding feast as well. When he was found without the wedding garments, he was thrown out. If you are not wearing the robes of the Lord's salvation and righteousness, you too are in a similarly serious jeopardy; rectify it now, before it is too late.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

    परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को दी गई विभिन्न बातों, और जिनका उसे भण्डारी बनाया गया है, उन में से एक है कि प्रत्येक विश्वासी परमेश्वर की कलीसिया का और उसकी सँतानों के परिवार का एक अंग हैं; परमेश्वर ने उसे अन्य विश्वासियों, वे सँसार में चाहे जहाँ पर भी हों, की संगति भी दी है। सली, प्रत्येक विश्वासी को इस ज़िम्मेदारी, इस भण्डारीपन के निर्वाह के एहसास के साथ जीवन जीना और कार्य करना चाहिए। आज सामान्यतः “कलीसिया” शब्द से लोग एक विशेष भवन या इमारत या बिल्डिंग की कल्पना करते हैं, जहाँ पर ईसाई या मसीही धर्म को मानने वाले अपनी पूजा-अर्चना, आराधना, रीति-रिवाजों के पालन, आदि के लिए एकत्रित होते हैं। और साथ ही इस सामान्य धारणा के अनुसार उनके ध्यान में उस विशेष भवन या इमारत या बिल्डिंग का एक विशिष्ट स्वरूप भी आ जाता है। किन्तु, जैसा हमने देखा है, मूल यूनानी भाषा के जिस शब्द का अनुवाद ‘कलीसिया’ या मण्डली किया गया है, वह है “ekklesia, एक्कलेसिया” जिसका शब्दार्थ होता है, “व्यक्तियों का एकत्रित होना”, या “व्यक्तियों का समूह” या “व्यक्तियों की सभा”; और प्रेरितों 19:32, 39 में “ekklesia, एक्कलेसिया” शब्द का अनुवाद “सभा” किया गया है।

    इसकी तुलना में, अंग्रेज़ी शब्द Church/चर्च, यूनानी भाषा के शब्द ‘कुरियाकॉन’ से आया है, जिसका अर्थ होता है “उपासना या आराधना का स्थान”; किन्तु नए नियम की मूल यूनानी भाषा का यह शब्द पूरे नए नियम के मूल यूनानी लेखों में कहीं पर भी उपयोग नहीं किया गया है। तो फिर “ekklesia, एक्कलेसिया” के स्थान पर “Church, चर्च” शब्द कैसे आ गया? इसे हम प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के समूह को बाइबल में जिन विभिन्न रूपकों या उपनामों से संबोधित किया गया है उसे देखते समय समझेंगे। अभी के लिए हम यही ध्यान रखते हैं कि नए नियम में मसीही विश्वास एवं शिक्षाओं के संदर्भ में, मूल यूनानी भाषा में “ekklesia, एक्कलेसिया” शब्द न तो किसी भौतिक भवन या आराधना स्थल के लिए, और न ही ईसाई लोगों की किसी संस्था के लिए उपयोग किया गया है। वरन, नए नियम में मसीही विश्वास एवं शिक्षाओं के संदर्भ में, यह शब्द प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों के समूह या समुदाय के लिए ही विभिन्न अभिप्रायों के साथ उपयोग किया गया है, जिन्हें हम आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे।

    

    बाइबल में कलीसिया के लिए निम्न सात रूपक उपयोग किये गए हैं:

1.   प्रभु का परिवार

2.   परमेश्वर का निवास स्थान या मन्दिर

3.   परमेश्वर का भवन

4.   परमेश्वर की खेती

5.   प्रभु की देह

6.   प्रभु की दुल्हन

7.   परमेश्वर की दाख की बारी

    अगले लेख से, यह सीखने के लिए कि कलीसिया वास्तव में क्या है, हम इन रूपकों पर विचर करना आरंभ करेंगे। यह समझ फिर हमें यह समझने में सहायता करेगी कि परमेश्वर की कलीसिया और उसकी संतानों के साथ संगति के भण्डारी होने के नाते, हमें किस प्रकार से जीवन जीना तथा व्यवहार करना चाहिए।

Understanding the Church – 3 – Metaphors – 1

 

    Of the various things that God has given to every Born-Again Christian Believer, and made him a steward of is made him a part of His Church and the family of His children; God has given the Believers the fellowship of other Christian Believers, wherever they may be in the world. Therefore, every Believer has to live and function keeping this responsibility, this stewardship in mind. Today, generally speaking, on hearing the word Church, people often think of either a particular building or a particular physical structure, where the followers of the Christian religion gather for their worship, religious ceremonies, feasts, and festivals etc. Often the concept of this building is also associated with a particular shape of the building as well. But, as we have seen, the word translated as “Church,” in the original Greek language is “ekklesia,” which literally means a “the gathering of people”, or, “an assembly of people;” and in Acts 19:32, 39 the Greek word “ekklesia” has been translated as “assembly.”

    In the initial days of the Christian Faith, people would gather in homes and houses (Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:19; Colossians 4:15; Philemon 1:2), or, in open places, e.g., a riverside (Acts 16:13), etc. for their worship. In all these instances, the Greek word “ekklesia” has been used to denote the gathering of people for worship. At no place does the use of this word imply or indicate a special building constructed for this purpose. For those initial Christians, the word “ekklesia” simply meant a gathering together for worshipping the Lord God. Therefore, when the Lord Jesus first used this word while talking to Peter in Matthew 16:18, then Peter and the disciples, as in the common usage of these words at that time, would have understood the Lord’s statement “...and I will build my Church,” as something like “... and I will gather my people together.” As soon as we place this original meaning of the word into this statement of the Lord and into the other places where “ekklesia” is used, automatically, the very basis of many false notions and wrong concepts, of many wrong teachings and false doctrines related to the Church gets eliminated, and the vanity, the falsehood of all such contrived, unBiblical teachings becomes apparent, as we will see in the days to come.

    In contrast, it is interesting to note that the English word “Church” has actually come from the Greek word “kuriakon” which literally means “the Lord’s House”, i.e., “a place of worship”; and in the original Greek language texts, this word “kuriakon” has never been used in the whole of the New Testament. Then how did the word “Church” come into use, in place of “ekklesia”? We will see this when we are considering the various metaphors used for the assembly of the Lord’s disciples. For now, we will only keep in mind that in context of the Christian Faith and its teachings, the Greek word ekklesia has never been used for a physical building or place of worship, nor for any organization of Christians. Rather, in the New Testament, in context of the Christian Faith and teachings, through the use of various metaphors, this word has been used with various meanings and implications for a gathering together of the disciples and followers of the Lord Jesus, as we will see in the coming articles.

    The Bible mentions the following seven metaphors for the Church:

1.   The Family of God

2.   The Temple or Dwelling Place of God

3.   The House or Building of God

4.   The Field of God

5.   The Body of Christ

6.   The Bride of Christ

7.   God’s Vineyard

    From the next article, we will start considering each of these metaphors, to learn what the Church actually is, Biblically speaking. This understanding will then help us understand that as stewards of God’s Church and of fellowship with His children, how we need to behave and conduct ourselves.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
