आरंभिक विचार (1) – आरंभिक लोगों की समझ

 

    इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में लिखी आरम्भिक बातों में से तीसरी, और हमारे वर्तमान विषय, अर्थात, बपतिस्मों के बारे में अपने अध्ययन में आगे बढ़ने से पहले, यह आवश्यक है कि हम बाइबल को समझने और उसकी व्याख्या करने से संबंधित एक बुनियादी तथ्य से अवगत हो जाएँ। बाइबल परमेश्वर का एकमात्र सत्य, अनन्तकालीन, अचूक, अपरिवर्तनीय वचन है जो सर्वदा के लिए स्वर्ग में स्थापित है (नहेम्याह 9:13; भजन 19:9; भजन 111:7-8; भजन 119:75, 86, 89, 138, 142, 144, 152, 160, 172; नीतिवचन 30:5; सभोपदेशक 3:14; यशायाह 40:8; यिर्मयाह 31:36; मत्ती 24:35;यूहन्ना 17:17; रोमियों 3:4; 1 पतरस 1:25)। यूहन्ना 1:1 और 1:14 के आधार पर यह परमेश्वर प्रभु यीशु मसीह का ही एक लिखित स्वरूप है; और जैसे परमेश्वर, वैसे ही बाइबल का लेख भी कभी समय, स्थान, या व्यक्ति के अनुसार बदलता नहीं है; यह हमेशा ही सभी के लिए एक समान ही रहता है। इसलिए, इसके लेखों के लिखे जाने के समय पर, स्थान पर, तब के लोगों के लिए जो इसका अर्थ था; वही हमेशा ही, सभी के लिए, सभी स्थानों बना रहेगा। यदि किसी भी कारण से यह बदल जाए, तो फिर इसे हमेशा सत्य रहने वाला, अनन्तकालीन, अचूक, और अपरिवर्तनीय परमेश्वर का वचन नहीं कहा जा सकेगा। सीधे शब्दों में, फिर ऐसी स्थिति में बाइबल को कभी भी परमेश्वर का वचन स्वीकार नहीं किया जा सकता है, और न ही उसकी किसी बात पर कभी भरोसा किया जा सकता है, क्योंकि तब तो उसकी बातें समय, स्थान, और व्यक्ति के अनुसार बदलती रहेंगी। इसलिए, जो बाइबल को परमेश्वर का वचन स्वीकार करते हैं, उन्हें इसके गुणों को भी पूरे मन से स्वीकार करना होगा। न केवल पूरे मन से यह स्वीकार करना होगा, वरन, बाइबल का अध्ययन और व्याख्या करते समय इस तथ्य का ध्यान भी रखना होगा। और साथ ही उन्हें इसे बाइबल के शब्दों, पदों, और खण्डों के अर्थ तथा व्याख्या पर लागू भी करना होगा, और किसी भी अर्थ अथवा व्याख्या को इस तथ्य के अनुसार ही स्वीकार अन्यथा अस्वीकार भी करना होगा।

    इस बात को ध्यान में रखते हुए, जब हम परमेश्वर के वचन से बपतिस्मे से संबंधित विभिन्न बातों और शिक्षाओं में जाते हैं, तो यह हमारे लिए बहुत सहायक होगा कि हम बपतिस्मे के बारे में कुछ आरंभिक बातों को भी देख और समझ लें। इन आरंभिक बातों की समझ के लिए हमें अपने आप को उस समय-काल में ले जाना होगा, जब इन बातों को पहली बार कहा गया, या ये घटित हुई थीं, और जब इन्हें परमेश्वर के वचन में लिखवाया गया। यदि हम इन बातों को उन लोगों के दृष्टिकोण से देख और समझ सकें, जिन्होंने इन्हें पहली बार सुना था और अपने जीवनों में लागू किया था, तो हम यह भी समझने पाएंगे कि उन्होंने इन के बारे में क्या समझा था, और इन्हें अपने जीवनों में किस प्रकार लागू किया था। इस बात को यदि कुछ भिन्न रीति से कहा जाए तो, बपतिस्मे से संबंधित बातें और इस शब्द के सबसे पहले और आरंभिक उपयोग, उस समय में बपतिस्मे को दिए जाने का उस समय के लोगों के लिए जो अर्थ, जो व्यावहारिक अभिप्राय था, यही अर्थ और व्यावहारिक अभिप्राय ही इसका मूल और बुनियादी अर्थ और उपयोग है। यही वह अपरिवर्तनीय तथ्य है जिसे हमें स्वीकार करना है, समझना है, और अपने जीवन में लागू करना है। अन्य कोई भी अर्थ या व्याख्या इस मूल और बुनियादी अर्थ एवं उपयोग में सम्भवतः कुछ योगदान कर सके, उसे और अधिक स्पष्ट कर सके, किन्तु कभी भी उसे बदल या हटा कर उसका स्थान नहीं ले सकती है। अन्यथा, जैसे ऊपर कहा गया है, यह परमेश्वर के वचन को बदलना, उसे असत्य, चूक जाने वाला, और परिवर्तनीय कर देना होगा। 

    बाइबल में बपतिस्मे का पहला उल्लेख नए नियम में मत्ती 3 अध्याय में, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के अग्रदूत यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले की सेवकाई के साथ किया गया है। बपतिस्मे को हम जिस तरह से जानते और समझते हैं, उसका वैसा कोई उल्लेख पुराने नियम में नहीं है। किन्तु पुराना नियम इसके बारे में पूर्णतः शांत भी नहीं है। परमेश्वर के वचन के एक तथ्य पर थोड़ा विचार कीजिए; इस तथ्य पर यदि किसी का ध्यान जाता भी है तो भी शायद ही कभी जाता होगा। और शायद ही कभी अथवा कभी ध्यान नहीं जाने का कारण है, क्योंकि हम बपतिस्मे के बारे में उन्हीं बातों के आदि हो चुके हैं, उन्हें वैसे ही देखते और समझते हैं, जैसे हमारे डिनॉमिनेशन, मत, अथवा समुदाय की मान्यताओं और सिद्धान्तों के आधार पर, हमारे धार्मिक अगुवे और प्राचीन हमें सिखा और पढ़ा देते हैं। विचार करने के लिए आवश्यक इस तथ्य का दो जगह पर उल्लेख किया गया है - पहला, यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले की सेवकाई के साथ मत्ती 3:1-7 में; और दूसरा, प्रेरितों 2:38 में, भक्त यहूदियों को पतरस द्वारा किए गए पहले प्रचार में, जिसमें वह उन्हें पश्चाताप करने और बपतिस्मा लेने के लिए कहता है।

    यूहन्ना की सेवकाई वाले हवाले से हम देखते हैं कि न केवल जन-साधारण, वरन फरीसी और सदूकी भी, जो परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था तथा पुराने नियम पवित्र शास्त्र के ज्ञाता थे, यूहन्ना के पास बपतिस्मा लेने के लिए आए। पतरस द्वारा “आकाश के नीचे की हर एक जाति में से” आए हुए भक्त यहूदियों (प्रेरितों 2:5), अर्थात जन-साधारण के लोगों से पश्चाताप और बपतिस्मे के लिए किए गए आह्वान में यह निहित है कि वे लोग व्यवस्था की बातों और माँगो से भली भांति परिचित रहे होंगे। लेकिन न तो जन-साधारण ने, न फरीसियों और सदूकियों ने जकरयाह याजक के पुत्र यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले को कोई चुनौती दी कि उसने कोई नई बात जो परमेश्वर के वचन में दी ही नहीं गई है उसे सिखाना और बताना क्यों आरंभ कर दिया है? उन्होंने न ही उस पर परमेश्वर के वचन के उल्लंघन का आरोप लगाया, और न ही उसे परमेश्वर की निन्दा करने का दोषी ठहराया। इसी प्रकार से, जब पतरस ने उन भक्त यहूदियों से बपतिस्मा लेने के लिए कहा, तो किसी ने भी उससे इस बात को समझाने के लिए नहीं कहा; और न ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने इस बात के किसी स्पष्टीकरण को वचन में लिखवाने की कोई आवश्यकता समझी। इन बातों का प्रकट अभिप्राय है कि आम लोग, फरीसी और सदूकी, और भक्त यहूदी, सभी समझते और स्वीकार करते थे कि शब्द ‘बपतिस्मा’ या ‘बपतिस्मा लेने’ का क्या अर्थ है; उनके लिए यह कोई नई अथवा अनसुनी या विचित्र बात नहीं थी। इसलिए, प्रभु यीशु की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के समय बपतिस्मे को जैसे समझा, स्वीकारा, और पालन किया जाता था, वही उसका मौलिक, अपरिवर्तनीय स्वरूप है, जिस में कुछ अन्य सहायक बातें जोड़ी तो जा सकती हैं, किन्तु जिसे कभी भी बदला नहीं जा सकता है। इस मौलिक अर्थ में कोई भी परिवर्तन करना परमेश्वर के वचन के चरित्र के विरुद्ध होगा। यह करने का अभिप्राय यही होगा कि परमेश्वर के वचन में दिए गए और हमारे पालन के लिए हमें सौंपे गए तथ्यों को बाद में कभी बदला भी जा सकता है; जो कि एक पूर्णतः अस्वीकार्य और गलत धारणा है। अगले लेख में हम अपने अध्ययन को यहाँ से आगे ज़ारी रखेंगे। 

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Preliminary Considerations (1) – People’s Initial Understanding

    Before we get into our study on the third elementary principle mentioned in Hebrews 6:1-2, and our topic for the day, i.e., baptisms, we need to understand a basic fact related to interpreting and understanding the Bible. The Bible is the one and only true, eternal, infallible, unalterable Word of God forever established in heaven (Nehemiah 9:13; Psalm 19:9; Psalm 111:7-8; Psalm 119:75, 86, 89, 138, 142, 144, 152, 160, 172; Proverbs 30:5; Ecclesiastes 3:14; Isaiah 40:8; Jeremiah 31:36; Matthew 24:35; John 17:17; Romans 3:4; 1 Peter 1:25). On the basis of John 1:1 and 1:14 it is a written form of the Lord God Jesus; and as is true for God, similarly the Bible’s text does not change with time, place, or person; it always remains the same for everybody, forever. Therefore, what it meant for the people at the place, and at the time its texts were written; that will always remain and mean the same for everyone else, at every place, and at any time. If it were to change due to any consideration, then it can never be accepted as the always true, eternal, infallible and unalterable Word of God. For then some portion of it will no longer remain true, will change, hence it will not be eternal and unalterable, and since a part of it has failed, so it will not be infallible either. To state it simply, in that case, the Bible can never be accepted as the Word of God, and can never be trusted for anything; since then with time, or place, or person, parts of it will keep varying. Therefore, those who accept the Bible as the Word of God, will also have to accept it whole-heartedly with its characteristics, and not only keep them in mind when studying and interpreting the Bible, but also apply them to the meanings and interpretations that are given to its words, verses, and passages; and assess and accept or reject those meanings and interpretations accordingly.

    With this in mind, as we go into various aspects and teachings about baptism, from God’s Word, it will be very helpful to look into and understand some preliminary things about baptism. To see and understand these preliminary things, we will also need to place ourselves in the same time-frame, as was, when these things first happened and were written in God’s Word. If we can understand these things from the point-of-view of those people who first heard of them and their application, we can also understand how they understood them and applied them to their lives. To put it in a different manner, the things related to baptism and the use of this term, when it was first said and done, conveyed a certain meaning and understanding of this word and its application to the people of that time. This meaning and understanding of this word and its application is the basic, unalterable fact that has to be accepted, understood and applied by us today. Every other meaning and interpretation probably may supplement and complement this initial basic meaning and understanding, but can ever replace or change this initial basic meaning. Else, as stated above, it would tantamount to altering God’s Word and rendering it untrue, fallible and alterable.

    The first mention of baptism in the Bible is in the New Testament, in Matthew chapter 3, with the ministry of John the Baptist, the forerunner of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no mention of baptism, as we know it, in the Old Testament. But the Old Testament is not completely silent about it either. Ponder over a scarcely, if at all noticed fact from God’s Word. This fact is scarcely ever, or not at all noticed by us, since we are all so accustomed, trained, and taught, to think about baptism in the manner our religious leaders and elders preach and teach to us about it, according to the beliefs and doctrines of our denominations, sects, and groups. This fact to ponder over is mentioned at two places - first, with the ministry of John the Baptist in Matthew 3:1-7; and second, in the first preaching of Peter to the devout Jews and his call to them for repentance and being baptized, in Acts 2:38. 

    With John’s ministry we see that not just the common people, but also the Pharisees and Sadducees, the experts and teachers of God’s Law and the Old Testament Scriptures, came to him for baptism. In Peter’s call for repentance and baptism, he was addressing the devout Jews (Acts 2:5), the common people, who had come from “every nation under heaven”, and they would have been well versed with the requirements of the Law and its fulfillment. But neither the common people, nor the Pharisees and Sadducees who were scholars of God’s Word, challenged John, the son of Zacharias, a priest, for starting something new; or of preaching and teaching something not given in God’s Word; they did not accuse him of breaking God’s Word, or of blasphemy in the name of God. Similarly, the devout Jews when told by Peter to be baptized, did not ask for this term to be explained to them; nor has the Holy Spirit considered it necessary to have an explanation of this term recorded in God’s Word. The evident implication is that the common people, the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the devout Jews, they all understood and accepted what the term baptism or ‘to be baptized’ means; it was nothing new or unheard of and strange for them. Therefore, baptism as understood, accepted, and practiced at the time Lord Jesus’s earthly ministry, is the basic unalterable form, that could be supplemented, but never replaced. Making any changes in this original meaning would be against the character of God’s Word. Doing this will imply that facts recorded in God’s Word and given as such to us for practicing, can be changed at some later date; an unacceptable and false notion. We will continue our study from this point onwards in the next article. 

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Voluntarily repent of your sins and ask the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourself to Him - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

एक आशीषित और सफल जीवन जीने से संबंधित जो बातें हमने अभी तक 1 राजाओं 2:2-4 से सीखीं हैं, उनके पुनःअवलोकन को ज़ारी रखते हुए, आज भी हम परमेश्वर द्वारा दिए गए प्रावधानों के योग्य भण्डारी होने से संबंधित बातों के पुनःअवलोकन को आगे देखेंगे। आज से हम परमेश्वर द्वारा नया-जन्म पाए हुए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को दिए गए दूसरे प्रावधान, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीखी गई बातों के पुनःअवलोकन को आरंभ करेंगे। प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने, अपने क्रूस पर चढ़ाने के लिए पकड़वाए जाने से पहले शिष्यों के साथ हुई अंतिम वार्तालाप में उन से वायदा किया था कि परमेश्वर पिता से उनके लिए वह एक सहायक, पवित्र आत्मा को भेजेगा। हम यूहन्ना 14 से 16 अध्याय में पवित्र आत्मा के कार्यों के बारे में प्रभु द्वारा शिष्यों को दी गई शिक्षाओं को पाते हैं। और फिर हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 3:16; 6:19 से देखते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी के अंदर, जो उसका मन्दिर है, निवास करता है।

प्रभु यीशु ने यूहन्ना 14:16 में कहा कि पवित्र आत्मा एक साथी के समान प्रत्येक विश्वासी के साथ हमेशा बना रहेगा, कि उसका सहायक हो। लेकिन इसका यह अर्थ नहीं है कि वह, परमेश्वर द्वारा विश्वासी को दिए गए निर्देशों को, विश्वासी के स्थान पर पूरा कर देगा। क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने जीवन और भक्ति तथा सँसार की सड़ाहट से बचने से संबंधित जो कुछ चाहिए था वह पहले से ही विश्वासियों को दे दिया है (2 पतरस 1:3-4), और उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में इन प्रावधानों को स्वयं उपयोग में लाना है। इसलिए पवित्र आत्मा को अपने स्थान पर कार्य करने के लिये की गई हर प्रार्थना हमेशा बिना उत्तर की ही रहेगी, क्योंकि जिम्मेदारी विश्वासी को निभानी है, पवित्र आत्मा को नहीं। साथ ही, जब भी परमेश्वर अपने बच्चों से कुछ करने के लिए कहता है, तो उसे पता होता है कि वे क्या कर सकते हैं, और क्या नहीं; और वह उन से उन्हें उसके द्वारा प्रदान की गई क्षमताओं के अंतर्गत ही कुछ करने के लिए कहता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:13)। इसलिए विश्वासी का यह कहना कि मैं यह, जो परमेश्वर ने मुझे करने के लिए कहा है, नहीं कर सकता हूँ, परमेश्वर के सर्वज्ञानी होने और जो वह अपने बच्चों से करने के लिए कहता है उसमें उसके सच्चा होने पर प्रश्न चिह्न उठाता है। प्रत्येक विश्वासी को हमेशा इस बात का भी ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा हमेशा ही उसके साथ बना रहता है, वह जहाँ भी जाता है, जो भी करता है, अपने समय का जैसे भी उपयोग करता है, आदि, उन सभी बातों में भी। इसलिए मसीही विश्वासियों को कभी भी ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं कहना या करना चाहिए जो पवित्र आत्मा को किसी भी तरह से शोकित करे (इफिसियों 4:30)।

यूहन्ना 14:17 से हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा सत्य का आत्मा है, और यही बात यूहन्ना 15:26 तथा यूहन्ना 16:13 में भी दोहराई गई है; जो पवित्र आत्मा के इस गुण के महत्व पर बहुत बल देता है। सीधे शब्दों में, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, कभी भी, किसी भी रीति से, तात्पर्यों में भी, ऐसी किसी भी बात के साथ जुड़ा हुआ नहीं होगा जो सत्य नहीं है। सभी आत्मिक बातों के लिए, जैसा कि प्रभु यीशु ने यूहन्ना 14:6 में कहा है, प्रभु ही सत्य है, और यूहन्ना 17:17 में प्रभु ने कहा कि परमेश्वर का वचन सत्य है; अर्थात, प्रभु और उसका वचन ही एकमात्र सत्य हैं। आत्मिक बातों से संबंधित जो भी बाइबल में नहीं लिखा गया है, वह सत्य नहीं है, और पवित्र आत्मा का उस बात के साथ कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। इसलिए ऐसी किसी भी बात के साथ जो सत्य नहीं है, अर्थात, जो बाइबल का लिखित तथ्य नहीं है, पवित्र आत्मा का कोई मार्गदर्शन होना संभव ही नहीं है। इसीलिए प्रेरितों 17:11 और 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:11 के निर्देशों – किसी भी बात को यूँ ही नहीं स्वीकार कर लो, वरन पहले प्रचार की तथा सिखाई जाने वाली हर बात को वचन से जाँचो और परखो (1 कुरिन्थियों 14:29), और पुष्टि होने के बाद ही उसे स्वीकार करो, का निर्वाह करना अनिवार्य है।

अगले लेख में हम यूहन्ना 14:17 से कुछ और बातों का पुनःअवलोकन करेंगे, और फिर पवित्र आत्मा से सीखने के बारे में पुनःअवलोकन पर जाएँगे।

Recapitulation – 5

Continuing with the recapitulation of what we have learnt so far regarding living a blessed and successful life from 1 Kings 2:2-4, we will recapitulate further about being stewards of God’s provisions. We will recapitulate what we have seen about the second provision of God given to every Born-Again Christian Believer, i.e., God the Holy Spirit, whose steward every Christian Believer is. The Lord Jesus Christ, in His last discourse with the disciples before His crucifixion, told them that He will ask the Father to send them a Helper, i.e., the Holy Spirit. In John chapters 14 to 16 He also taught them about the purposes of the Holy Spirit. And we see from 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19 that God the Holy Spirit dwells in every Born-Again Christian Believer, the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord Jesus, in John 14:16 said that the Holy Spirit will always stay alongside every Believer, as a companion to be the disciple’s Helper. But that does not mean that He will also function as the disciple’s substitute to fulfil his God given instructions for him. All such prayers, to use the Holy Spirit as our substitute will remain unanswered, since God has already given to every Believer everything that pertains to life and godliness and the way to escape the corruption of the world (2 Peter 1:3-4), and they have to fulfill their responsibilities in the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, every prayer for asking God to be their substitute, will always remain unanswered, since it is the Believers who are to fulfill their responsibilities, not the Holy Spirit. Moreover, when God asks His children to do something, He knows what they can do and what they cannot, and asks them to do within the limits of the capabilities He has given to them (1 Corinthians 10:13). Therefore, to claim that we are incapable of doing something God has asked us to do is to raise questions on God being omniscient and true about what He asks His children to do for Him. Every Believer should also stay aware of the fact that God the Holy Spirit is always with him, wherever he goes, whatever he does, however he utilizes his time. Hence Christian Believers should not say or do anything that grieves the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) in any manner.

From John 14:17 we saw that God the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, and this has been repeated in John 15:26 and John 16:13 as well; which very strongly emphasizes on the importance of this attribute of the Holy Spirit. In simple terms, God the Holy Spirit will never in any way, not even through implications, be associated with anything that is not the truth. For all spiritual matters, as the Lord Jesus has said in John 14:6, the Lord is the Truth, and in John 17:17 the Lord said that God’s Word is the Truth; i.e., the Lord and His Word are the one and only Truth. Anything spiritual that is not written in the Bible, is not the truth; and the Holy Spirit will have nothing to do with it. We cannot have the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, in anything that is not the truth, i.e., is not a written Biblical fact. That is why the instructions of Acts 17:11 and 1 Thessalonians 5:21 - DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING, but always first cross-check and confirm each and everything being preached and taught from the Word of God (1 Corinthians 14:29), only then accept and believe.

A very common error and misunderstanding, often committed in piety, is to use Biblical facts in a manner they have not been taught or used in God's Word. People often, though reverentially, piously, and with good intentions, but erroneously, use Biblical facts in many phrases and statements in a manner that is not given about them in the Bible. Through their own understanding and interpretation they use them as some new revelations, in a manner that has not been given before in the Bible. This is something that simply cannot be true since nothing can be added to or taken away from God’s Word, as we have seen earlier. The Believers do this to try and please God, to seemingly make prayers more effective, and make sure that their prayers are fulfilled. In other words, they use these statements like a "mantra," a chant, through which they try to compel God to do what they are asking Him to do in their prayers. Think it over, the prayers of those who do not use these phrases are also heard and answered by God, while many prayers where these phrases have emphatically and repeatedly been used, still go unanswered. So, what is the rationale or necessity of using them like a "mantra," a chant, to get things done from God? This only makes the person inadvertently become guilty of not only adding to God’s Word, but also of preaching, teaching, and following an untruth, and of trying to manipulate God like a puppet to fulfill one’s own desires.

In the next article we will recapitulate about some more things from John 14:17; and then go on to recapitulate about learning from God the Holy Spirit.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के निर्वाह में चूक करवाने के लिए शैतान ने मसीही विश्वासियों के विरुद्ध जो युक्तियाँ बनाई हैं, पिछले कुछ लेखों में हमने उन में से तीन को देखा है। ये तीन थीं: पहली, लोगों को इस लालच में डालकर बहकाना कि यदि वे उसके कहे के अनुसार करेंगे तो बहुत लाभ पाएँगे, किन्तु वास्तविक दुष्परिणामों से अनभिज्ञ रखना; दूसरी, परमेश्वर के प्रतिबद्ध लोगों, कलीसिया के प्रमुख लोगों तथा अगुवों, बाइबल के प्रचारकों तथा शिक्षकों आदि को भरमा कर उनसे बाइबल के लेखों को, उनकी अपनी समझ के अनुसार, बाइबल में दिये गये अर्थों और अभिप्रायों से भिन्न, या विपरीत अर्थों और अभिप्रायों के साथ दुरुपयोग करवाना; और तीसरा, मनुष्य की इस प्रवृत्ति का कि जो आकर्षक और रोचक दिखता है, तर्कपूर्ण होता है उसको स्वीकार करना और उसका पालन करना, परमेश्वर के निर्देशों के अनुसार नहीं बल्कि अपनी ही समझ और बुद्धि के अनुसार कार्य करना; इनके द्वारा शैतान विश्वासियों से भी परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता करवाता रहता है।

 

हमने एक चौथी बात भी देखी थी जो हर तरह के ईसाइयों या मसीहियों में सामान्यतः और सार्वजनिक रीति से पाई जाती है, एक बहुत हानिकारक आदत जो शैतान के लिए अपनी न केवल उपरोक्त तीनों युक्तियों को, वरन उसकी अन्य हर एक युक्ति को भी, सफलता से लागू करने में बहुत सहायक रहती है। यह हानिकारक आदत है परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से दूर रहना, या फिर बहुत हुआ तो थोड़ा सा समय निकालकर या तो उसे हलके में बस यूं ही पढ़ अथवा सुन लेना, या फिर लापरवाही से अथवा एक औपचारिकता निभाने के लिए यह करना। जबकि लोगों का मुख्य समय और उद्यम सँसार की बातों और कार्यों के लिए होता है, उन बातों के लिए जो अन्ततः नष्ट होने ही वाली हैं। और इसीलिए लोग तथा विश्वासी शैतान की युक्तियों में सरलता से फंसते और गिरते रहते हैं, शैतान को उन्हें बहका कर हानि और नाश में ले जाने में कोई दिक्कत नहीं होती है (यशायाह 5:13; होशे 4:6)। बहुत ही कम ऐसे मसीही होते हैं जो अपने जीवनों में परमेश्वर के वचन को उसकी उचित प्राथमिकता, प्रधानता, और आज्ञाकारिता देते हैं।

मसीहियत में, शैतान ने उपरोक्त तीनों युक्तियों का बहुत सफल उपयोग किया है, और करता चला आ रहा है। ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि अधिकांश मसीहियों में न तो यह क्षमता है, और न ही यह परवाह है कि उन्हें जो सुनाया और सिखाया जाता है उसमें सत्य और असत्य में भिन्नता को कर सकें या पहचान सकें। परमेश्वर के वचन का दुरुपयोग, अर्थात्, शैतान बाइबल के लेखों का ही, बाइबल के विपरीत उपयोग, बहुत चतुराई और चालाकी से करवाता है। वह बड़े चुपके से, लोगों को इस बात का एहसास भी न होने देते हुए कि उन्हें गलती के लिए उपयोग किया जा रहा है, परमेश्वर के प्रतिबद्ध लोगों, कलीसिया के प्रमुख लोगों तथा अगुवों, बाइबल के प्रचारकों तथा शिक्षकों आदि को भरमा कर उनसे बाइबल के लेखों को, बाइबल में ही दिये गये उनके अर्थों और अभिप्रायों से असंगत या विपरीत अर्थों और अभिप्रायों के साथ प्रस्तुत करवाता है। आइए देखते हैं कि शैतान किस तरह से परमेश्वर के इन भक्त लोगों को ही परमेश्वर के लोगों को उनके उद्धार के बारे में बहकाने और भरमाने, तथा उद्धार के जीवन को जीने के लिए उन्हें परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह पर भरोसा रखने की बजाए उनके अपने ही कर्मों पर भरोसा रखने के व्यर्थ जाल में फँसा लेता है।

मसीहियों में परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में सही होने, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने, और इस पार्थिव जीवन की समाप्ति पर परमेश्वर के साथ स्वर्ग में होने के बारे में दो बहुत प्रचलित, और सामान्य किन्तु बहुत गलत धारणाएँ व्याप्त हैं। एक है कि यह भले होने तथा भले काम करने के द्वारा किया जा सकता है; और दूसरी है कि यदि व्यक्ति भले होने तथा भले काम करने के द्वारा धार्मिकता की जीवन-शैली बनाकर नहीं रखे, तो वह अपने इस विशेषाधिकार को, जो उसने प्राप्त किया है, खो देगा। यह बहुत दुर्भाग्य की बात है कि इन दोनों गलत, बाइबल के विपरीत धारणाओं की कलीसिया, मण्डली, तथा मसीहियों में उपस्थिति होने, उनके बने रहने, प्रसार होते रहने में, अनजाने में अथवा जान बूझकर, परमेश्वर के प्रतिबद्ध लोगों, कलीसिया के प्रमुख लोगों तथा अगुवों, बाइबल के प्रचारकों तथा शिक्षकों आदि का बहुत प्रमुख और महत्वपूर्ण योगदान है। इसे लागू करने की शैतान की युक्ति को समझने के लिए, हम पहले बहुत संक्षेप में, यह देख और समझ लेते हैं कि बचाए जाने, नया-जन्म या उद्धार पाने, मसीही विश्वासी होने का क्या अर्थ और अभिप्राय है। यह अपने आप में एक सम्पूर्ण विषय है, लेकिन बहुत संक्षेप में, इस से संबंधित प्रासंगिक बाइबल की शिक्षाएँ हैं:

• वास्तव में प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य ही एक सच्चा मसीही होता है (मत्ती 28:19-20; प्रेरितों 11:26)।

• बाइबल के अनुसार मसीहियत न तो कभी कोई धर्म थी, और न है, बल्कि यह हमेशा से ही प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास का जीवन जीना, उसे अपना जीवन समर्पण करना, और उस ही का अनुसरण करना रही है। जो प्रभु यीशु का अनुसरण करते थे, मसीहियत के आरम्भ में, उन्हें “पन्थ / मार्ग के लोग” कहा जाता था (प्रेरितों 9:2; 19:23; 22:4; 24:14, 22)।

• मसीही विश्वास कभी भी वंशागत नहीं होता है; कभी भी, कोई भी, स्वाभाविक जन्म से “मसीही” नहीं होता है। हर किसी को, उन्हें भी जो बहुत धार्मिक हैं तथा पवित्र शास्त्र के बहुत ज्ञाता हैं, जैसे कि निकुदेमुस, को भी परमेश्वर का राज्य देखने और उस में प्रवेश करने के लिए नया जन्म प्राप्त करना अनिवार्य है (यूहन्ना 3:3, 5, 7)। बाइबल के अनुसार यह और किसी भी तरीके से संभव नहीं है; किन्हीं रीतियों, परम्पराओं, नियमों, या पर्वों को मानने अथवा मनाने से भी नहीं। नया जन्म पाने के अतिरिक्त परमेश्वर के राज्य में प्रवेश के लिए और कोई मार्ग नहीं है।

• यह नया जन्म प्राप्त करना केवल विश्वास ही के द्वारा है न कि किसी प्रकार के कर्मों के द्वारा। यह केवल पापों के पश्चाताप करने और प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करने से परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह के द्वारा होता है, कर्मों से नहीं (रोमियों 10:8-10; इफिसियों 2:5, 8-9)।

• कलीसिया ऐसे लोगों का एक समूह है “जो मसीह यीशु में पवित्र किए गए, और पवित्र होने के लिये बुलाए गए हैं; और उन सब के नाम भी जो हर जगह हमारे और अपने प्रभु यीशु मसीह के नाम की प्रार्थना करते हैं” (1 कुरिन्थियों 1:2)। अर्थात्, कलीसिया कोई डिनॉमिनेशन, या मत नहीं है, और न ही ऐसे लोगों का समूह है जो कुछ नियमों, रीतियों, और परंपराओं का निर्वाह करते हैं; बल्कि उन लोगों का जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध हैं।

• यह वास्तविक और बाइबल के अनुरूप कलीसिया एक ही है, सार्वभौमिक है, सारे सँसार भर और अपने इतिहास में एकमात्र है, और इसे ही ‘प्रभु की देह’ तथा ‘प्रभु की दुल्हन’ कहा गया है (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:12, 27; इफिसियों 5:23, 29-30)। प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाया हुआ विश्वासी व्यक्तिगत रीति प्रभु की इसी देह का एक सदस्य है।

• केवल यही एकमात्र, सार्वभौमिक, विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया ही सँसार से स्वर्ग को उठाई जाएगी, अनंतकाल के लिए प्रभु परमेश्वर यीशु मसीह के साथ रहने के लिए। इसीलिए, हर एक के लिए जो बात सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है, वह है कि क्या वह इस वास्तविक कलीसिया का सदस्य है अथवा नहीं? इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता है कि कौन व्यक्ति किस डिनॉमिनेशन या मत का सदस्य है, कितनी पीढ़ियों से है, और कितने समय से है। महत्व केवल इस बात का है कि क्या आप ने नया जन्म पाया है और प्रभु की इस देह, इस दुल्हन, इस विश्वव्यापी कलीसिया के सदस्य बन गए हैं या नहीं!

 

शैतान बाइबल के इन तथ्यों का किस प्रकार से परमेश्वर के प्रतिबद्ध लोगों, कलीसिया के प्रमुख लोगों तथा अगुवों, बाइबल के प्रचारकों तथा शिक्षकों आदि के द्वारा गलत व्याख्या करवाता है, उनका दुरुपयोग करता है, ताकि लोग परमेश्वर के सच्चे और खरे भरमाए और भटकाए जा सकें, इसे हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

In considering the strategies of Satan to make a Christian Believer falter in his stewardship towards God’s Word the Bible, in the previous article, we had seen about three of the various strategies that Satan has devised against the Christian Believers. These three were: first, enticing people through promising them great benefits by doing what he says, but hiding the actual harmful consequences; second, induce God’s committed Believers, Church leaders and elders, Bible preachers and teachers, etc., into misusing the Bible texts by giving them unBiblical meanings and implications, according to their own understanding; and third, Satan takes help of the human tendency of falling for something that seems appealing and logical; and makes Believers disobey God, by making them trust more on their own thinking and logic, than on obeying God’s instructions.

We had also seen a fourth thing, a very strong habit that is universally and uniformly rampant amongst all varieties of Christians. This habit helps Satan immensely in implementing not only these three, but all of his other strategies as well. This pernicious habit very commonly seen amongst Christians is of either staying away from God’s Word the Bible, or at the most giving it only a little time of a casual reading or merely listening, perfunctorily, or as a formality. While people’s main priority for their time and efforts are the things and works of the world, that will soon perish anyway; and therefore, they remain gullible to Satan’s ploys. Therefore, it is not surprising at all that Satan can so easily misguide and mislead most Christians into loss and destruction (Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6). Rare are the Christians who give God’s Word its due priority, prominence, and obedience in their lives.

In Christendom, Satan has very successfully employed the three above-mentioned strategies, and continues to do so. This is because most Christians have neither the ability, nor the care or concern to discern the truth from the untruths in what is preached and taught to them. Satan very cleverly and subtly misuses God’s committed Believers, Church leaders and elders, Bible preachers and teachers, etc. to preach and teach God’s Word, i.e., by using the Biblical texts and facts, in a Biblically unintended manner, in a wrong and extra-Biblical way, without their even realizing they are being misused by Satan for his purposes. Let us see how he gets these godly people to misguide God’s people about their salvation, and thereby entangle them in vain efforts of relying upon their works rather than God’s grace regarding living their life of salvation.

There are two very common but very wrong notions amongst the Christians regarding being right with God, being acceptable to God, and being qualified to be in heaven with God after one’s temporal life on earth comes to an end. One is that this can be achieved by being good and doing good works; the second is that if a person does not maintain a righteous life through being good and doing good, he will lose this privilege, this special status that he has attained. Very unfortunately, for the presence, continuation, and propagation of these false, unBiblical notions in the Churches or Assemblies, knowingly or unknowingly, God’s committed Believers, Church leaders and elders, Bible preachers and teachers, etc. have a major role to play. To understand Satan’s manipulation in implementing this, let us first understand, very briefly, what it means and implies to be saved, or Born-Again, or have salvation, and be a Christian Believer. This is an entire subject in itself, but, in short, the relevant Biblical teachings are that:

• Only a true disciple of Christ is truly a Christian (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 11:26).

• Biblical Christianity never was and never has been a religion; rather it always has been a way of life of Faith the Lord Jesus, of surrendering one’s life to Him, and following Him. Those who followed the Lord Jesus, at the beginning of Christianity, were known as ‘people of the Way’ (Acts 9:2; 19:23; 22:4; 24:14, 22).

• The Christian Faith is never inherited; No one is ever born a ‘Christian’, by natural birth. Everyone, including the most religious and those most knowledgeable about the Scriptures, e.g., Nicodemus, must be Born-Again to be able to see and enter into the Kingdom of God (John 3:3, 5, 7). According to the Bible, nothing else, no observance or fulfilment of any rituals, traditions, rules, or festivals, nothing other than being Born-Again will ever qualify anyone to be in the Kingdom of God.

• This, being Born-Again is by faith and not by any works of any kind. It is only by the grace of God through repentance of sins and coming to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 10:8-10; Ephesians 2:5, 8-9).

• The Church is the collective group of “those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours” (1 Corinthians 1:2); i.e., the Church is not any particular denomination, or sect, nor those who fulfil certain rules, rituals and traditions, but those who are completely committed and surrendered to the Lord Jesus.

• This true and Biblical Church is one, is universal, is the same all over the world and all throughout its history, and has been called the ‘body of Christ’ and the ‘Bride of Christ’ (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27; Ephesians 5:23, 29-30). Every Born-Again Christian Believer is individually a member of this Body of Christ.

• It is only this one universal Church, this Body and Bride of Christ which will be delivered from the world and taken up into heaven, to eternally be with the Lord God Jesus Christ. Therefore, for everyone, what matters is not whether they are members of any particular denomination or sect, nor for how many generations and for how long they have been the members, but whether or not they have been Born-Again and become a member of this actual Church, this Body, this Bride of Christ.

 

How Satan misinterprets and misuses these Biblical facts to misguide people through God’s committed Believers, Church leaders and elders, Bible preachers and teachers, etc. we will see in the next article.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
