पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के विषय गलत शिक्षाएं (3)

परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में शैतान द्वारा फैलाए जाने वाले गलत सिद्धान्तों और झूठी शिक्षाओं का परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से विश्लेषण एवं जाँच-परख करते हुए हमने पिछले लेख में देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में भ्रामक शिक्षाओं को देने वाले लोगों की एक बहुत आम किन्तु सर्वथा गलत शिक्षा है कि उद्धार पाने के बाद पवित्र आत्मा पाने के लिए विश्वासियों को प्रतीक्षा, प्रयास, और प्रार्थनाएं करनी होती हैं। बाइबल में इस गलत शिक्षा का कोई समर्थन नहीं है। अपनी इस गलत शिक्षा को सही दिखाने के लिए, ये लोग प्रेरितों 1:1-8 का हवाला देते हैं, जहाँ प्रभु ने शिष्यों से सुसमाचार प्रचार पर निकलने से पहले पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने की प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए कहा है। प्रभु की कही बात के बारे में पिछले लेख में हमने कहा था कि यहाँ पर पद 5-8 में दो महत्वपूर्ण बातें दी गई हैं; और व्याख्या करते समय इन दोनों बातों का ध्यान रखना अनिवार्य है। इन दो में से पहली बात, प्रतीक्षा करने के बारे में हमने पिछले लेख में देखा है कि क्यों और कैसे या के उस समय उन चेलों ही के लिए कही गई बात थी, न कि सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए सदा लागू होने वाला कोई सिद्धान्त। आज हम यहाँ दी गई दूसरी बात के बारे में देखेंगे।  

दूसरी बात, प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में प्रभु उन्हें स्मरण दिला रहा है कि वह उन्हें पहले भी पवित्र आत्मा के बारे में न केवल बता चुका है, वरन इसके विषय उनसे चर्चा भी कर चुका है, अर्थात उसके दिए जाने क बारे में विस्तार से उन्हें बता और समझा चुका है। उन शिष्यों के साथ, सेवकाई के दिनों में, प्रभु ने कई बार उन से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने की बात कही थी; किन्तु हर बार यह भविष्य काल में ही होने की बात थी; अर्थात प्रभु ने उन्हें यही सिखाया था पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें बाद में उचित समय पर दिया जाएगा। किन्तु अपनी बात को सही दिखाने के लिए ये गलत शिक्षाओं वाले लोग वचन के हवालों और वहाँ लिखी बात को अनुचित रीति से बताते हैं। इस बारे में उनके द्वारा सामान्यतः प्रयोग किए जाने वाले बाइबल के हवाले और उनसे संबंधित विचार करने योग्य बातें हैं :

* लूका 11:13 – इस पद का दुरुपयोग यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि प्रभु ने कहा है कि पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर से मांगने पर मिलता है। जबकि यदि इस पद को उसके संदर्भ (पद 11-13) में देखें, तो यह स्पष्ट है कि यह आलंकारिक भाषा का प्रयोग है, एक तुलनात्मक कथन है। प्रभु, किसी सांसारिक पिता के अपनी संतान की आवश्यकता के लिए उसे सर्वोत्तम देने की मनसा रखने की बात कर रहा है। जैसे सांसारिक पिता अपने बच्चों को यथासंभव उत्तम देता है, वैसे ही परमेश्वर भी “अपने” लोगों को – जो प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा उसकी संतान बन गए हैं (यूहन्ना 1:12-13), सर्वोत्तम देना चाहता है। साथ ही, हर किसी मांगने वाले को पवित्र आत्मा देने के लिए परमेश्वर बाध्य नहीं है; मांगने वाले का मन भी इसके लिए ठीक होना चाहिए, अर्थात उसे वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाया हुआ होना चाहिए। प्रेरितों 8:18-23 में शमौन टोन्हा करने वाले को गलत मनसा रखते हुए पवित्र आत्मा मांगने से अच्छी डाँट-फटकार मिली, न कि पवित्र आत्मा, और उसकी वास्तविकता उजागर कर दी गई यद्यपि वह प्रभु में विश्वास करने का दावा करता था; उसने बपतिस्मा भी लिया था, और विश्वासियों की संगति में भी रहता था (प्रेरितों 8:13)।

* यूहन्ना 7:37-39 – पवित्र आत्मा दिए जाने से सम्बन्धित यह एक और खण्ड है। यहाँ पर भविष्य काल को व्यक्त करने वाले वाक्यांशों पर ध्यान कीजिए, “बह निकलेंगी”; “पाने पर थे” – भविष्य काल – और साथ ही शर्त भी कह दी गई है कि ऐसा उनके लिए होगा “जो उस पर विश्वास करने वाले” होंगे – जैसा ऊपर देख चुके हैं, जो विश्वास करेगा, उसे विश्वास करते ही तुरंत ही मिल जाएगा; जिसने सच्चा विश्वास नहीं किया (यह केवल प्रभु ही जानता है, कोई मनुष्य नहीं, कि किसने सच में विश्वास किया है, और किसने नहीं), उसे नहीं मिलेगा, वह चाहे कितनी भी प्रार्थनाएं, प्रतीक्षा, या प्रयास करता रहे। जिसने विश्वास किया, उसे फिर कुछ और करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, और न ही करने के लिए कहा गया है।

* यूहन्ना 14:16-17 – इन पदों में भी एक बार फिर से भविष्य काल पर ध्यान दीजिए: “देगा”, “होगा” – भविष्य काल – इस आश्वासन के साथ कि जब पिता देगा तो फिर वह सर्वदा साथ रहेगा। यह वैसा नहीं है जैसे पुराने नियम में था – पवित्र आत्मा कुछ समय के लिए आएगा और फिर चला जाएगा, (ओत्निएल न्यायियों 3:9,10; गिदोन न्यायियों 6:34; यिप्ताह, शमसून, राजा शाऊल 1 शमूएल 10:6, 10; दाऊद 1 शमूएल 16:13, आदि)

* यूहन्ना 16:7 – एक और स्थान जहाँ प्रभु ने भविष्यकाल का आश्वासन दिया है “सहायक आएगा; उसे भेजूँगा” – भविष्य काल – पवित्र आत्मा को भविष्य में आना था; उसी समय नहीं। 

* यूहन्ना 20:22 – “लो” – अभी तक जो भविष्य की बात कही जा रही थी, अब उसका समय आ गया था, अब इस बात को एक प्रक्रिया के अंतर्गत पूरा होना था, प्रभु द्वारा निर्धारित विधि से प्राप्त करना था।  प्रभु ने यह अपने पुनरुत्थान के बाद शिष्यों से कहा – उन्हें पहले की प्रतिज्ञा स्मरण करवाई, और स्वर्गारोहण के समय उसकी प्रक्रिया भी बताई (लूका 24:49)। पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु की फूँक में नहीं था, और न ही कभी फूंकने के द्वारा किसी को दिया गया।

    पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित कुछ अन्य गलत शिक्षाओं, जैसे के अन्य भाषाएँ बोलना, पवित्र आत्मा के उद्देश्य और कार्य, आदि को हम आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे।

यदि आप एक सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी हैं, पापों से पश्चाताप करने और प्रभु यीशु से उनकी क्षमा माँगने, अपना जीवन प्रभु को समर्पित करने के द्वारा आपने नया जन्म अर्थात उद्धार पाया है, तो आपके उद्धार पाने के पल से ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आप में निवास कर रहा है, आपकी सहायता और शिक्षा के लिए आप में विद्यमान है। इसलिए किसी गलत शिक्षा में न फंसे, और यदि पड़ गए हैं तो उपरोक्त पदों का ध्यान करते हुए, उन शिक्षाओं से बाहर आ जाएं। पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर है, किसी मनुष्य के हाथों की कठपुतली नहीं जिसे कोई मनुष्य अपने किन्हीं प्रयासों अथवा निर्धारित विधियों के द्वारा नियंत्रित और निर्देशित कर सके।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

False Teachings About Receiving The Holy Spirit (3)

While evaluating and analyzing from God's Word the Bible, the false doctrines and wrong teachings about the Holy Spirit spread by deceptive people, we had seen in the previous article that one very common but wrong and deceptive teaching given by these people is that after being saved, one has to 'tarry' or wait, make special efforts, and pray, to receive the Holy Spirit. There is no Biblical support for this wrong teaching. To justify their false teaching, these people quote Acts 1:1-8 where the Lord has told His disciples to wait till they receive the Holy Spirit, before going out for the ministry of preaching the gospel. We had said in the previous article about this thing stated by the Lord, that here, in verses 5-8, two very important things are given, which should never be overlooked while interpreting this passage. Of these two, we had seen about the first thing, i.e., waiting or tarrying, in the last article. We had seen how and why this was said only for those disciples of that time, and it is not a doctrinal statement to be applied for all Christian Believers at all times. Today we will consider the second thing stated here.

Secondly, In Acts 1:4-8 the Lord is reminding them that He had already told them about the Holy Spirit, had already discussed this with them, i.e., had explained to them in detail about their receiving the Holy Spirit. During the time of His ministry on earth, while with the disciples, the Lord had talked to them about receiving the Holy Spirit on multiple occasions; but every time, it was stated in the future tense, i.e., the Lord had been teaching them that at an appropriate time they would receive the Holy Spirit. But these preachers and teachers of false doctrines, to justify their teachings, misuse and misinterpret what the Lord had said to the disciples. The commonly used Bible references by these people, and what needs to be pondered over in these references are:

* Luke 11:13 - This verse is misused to show that the Lord has said that the Holy Spirit will be given to those who ask for Him. But when we look at this verse in its context (verses 11-13), then it becomes clear that this statement of the Lord is a figure of speech, a comparative statement. The Lord is talking about an earthly father desiring to give the best possible to his child. As an earthly father wants to give the best that he possibly can to his child, similarly God the Father too wants to give the best that He can to His children - the Holy Spirit - to those who have become His children by accepting the Lord Jesus as their saviour (John 1:12-13). Moreover, God is under no compulsion to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks for Him; the one desiring to have the Holy Spirit, should also be worthy of Him, i.e., an actually Born-Again or saved person. In Acts 8:18-23, Simon the Sorcerer wanted to receive the Holy Spirit with a wrong motive, but all he got was a severe admonition, not the Holy Spirit; and his actual condition of not being in the faith was exposed, although he claimed to believe in the Lord Jesus, had taken baptism, and used to stay in fellowship with the Believers (Acts 8:13).

* John 7:37-39 - This is another passage about the Holy Spirit being given. Here, take note of the future tense phrases, "will flow rivers of living water”, “the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive”, and a condition has also been given that this will happen for “He who believes in Me”; i.e., he who believes in the Lord will also receive the Holy Spirit; but the one who has not really come to the faith (no man knows this about another, only the Lord does), will not receive, as we have seen above, no matter how many prayers, pleading, efforts, and tarrying he may do. But the one who has actually come into faith in the Lord Jesus will not have to do anything, nor has he been asked to do anything, the saved person will automatically receive the Holy Spirit also.

* John 14:16-17 - In these verses once again take note of the future tense phrases: “He will give you another Helper”, “will be in you” have been used with the assurance that it is God who will give, and then the Holy Spirit will abide or remain in the Believer always. This is unlike what used to happen in the Old Testament where the Spirit would come for a purpose and duration and then go away, (Othniel in Judges 3:9,10; Gideon in Judges 6:34; King Saul in 1 Samuel 10:6, 10; David in 1 Samuel 16:13, etc.).

* John 16:7 - Another place where the Lord has assured in the future tense “Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” - the Spirit had to come to the disciples sometime in future, when the Lord would send Him.

* John 20:22 - “Receive the Holy Spirit” A post-resurrection statement from the Lord to the disciples; what had been for the future, its time had now come, it had to be fulfilled in a particular manner. The Lord, after His resurrection, reminded the disciples of the previously made promise, and then at the time of His ascension, told them about the fulfilling (Luke 24:49). The Holy Spirit was not in the breath of the Lord that He breathed upon the disciples, nor was He ever given to anyone by breathing upon the person.

Some other wrong teachings and false doctrines related to the Holy Spirit, e.g., speaking in tongues, the purposes and works of the Holy Spirit, etc., we will see in the subsequent articles.

If you really are a Christian Believer, if you have been Born-Again by repenting of your sins, asking the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and surrendering your life to the Lord Jesus, then God the Holy Spirit is residing in you since the moment of your salvation, to teach and help you. Therefore, do not fall for any wrong teachings; and in case you have got entangled with the wrong teachings, keeping the above-mentioned verses in mind, come out of the wrong teachings. The Holy Spirit is God, not a puppet in the hands of men, that can be manipulated and dispensed by man-made methods.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

    इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में उल्लेखित आरम्भिक बातों के हमारे इस अध्ययन में हम वर्तमान में पहली आरंभिक बात, अर्थात मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराने के बारे में विचार कर रहे हैं; अर्थात उन धार्मिक और भले प्रतीत होने वाले कामों के बारे में जो उन्हें करने वाले व्यक्तियों के जीवनों में कोई आत्मिक बढ़ोतरी या परिपक्वता लेकर नहीं आते हैं। अभी तक हमने बाइबल में से तीन प्रकार के मरे हुए कामों को देखा है – स्व-निर्धारित सेवकाइयाँ (मत्ती 7:21-23); स्व-निर्धारित परमेश्वर की उपासना और आराधना (मत्ती 15:3-9); और स्व-निर्धारित उद्धार (प्रेरितों 8:5-25)। आज से हम कुछ मत और डिनॉमिनेशनों के द्वारा बहुत बल देकर पवित्र आत्मा के दिए जाने, तथा मसीही विश्वासियों में उसके कार्यों से सम्बन्धित गलत धारणाओं के सिखाए जाने के बारे में विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे। इन गलत धारणाओं और झूठी शिक्षाओं को हम इस ब्लॉग में पवित्र आत्मा और उसकी सेवकाई से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं के साथ, पहले के कुछ लेखों में कुछ विस्तार से देख चुके हैं। इसलिए हम इन मत और डिनॉमिनेशनों द्वारा प्रचार किए और सिखाए जाने वाली केवल मुख्य झूठी शिक्षाओं और गलत सिद्धान्तों को ही देखेंगे।

    कुछ मत और डिनॉमिनेशन यह प्रचार करते और सिखाते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना, उद्धार पाने से पृथक अनुभव है, और पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए विश्वासी को समय और प्रयास लगाने पड़ते हैं। लेकिन जैसे कि हमने इस वर्तमान श्रृंखला के पहले के लेखों में देखा है, परमेश्वर के वचन की स्पष्ट शिक्षा है कि प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, पिता परमेश्वर के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा उसके उद्धार पाने के साथ ही प्रदान कर दिया जाता है (प्रेरितों 19:2; इफिसियों 1:13-14; गलतियों 3:2); कि आजीवन उसमें बना रहे (यूहन्ना 14:16-17)। इसके अतिरिक्त, हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:3 से देखते हैं कि पवित्र आत्मा के बिना कोई भी यीशु को प्रभु नहीं कह सकता है। इसलिए, यदि एक नया-जन्म पाए हुए नए विश्वासी में उसके उद्धार पाने के पल से पवित्र आत्मा नहीं है, तो फिर क्या वह यीशु को प्रभु कह कर संबोधित कर सकता है, या, उसका प्रभु होने के नाते यीशु से प्रार्थना में कुछ माँग सकता है? साथ ही, क्योंकि उस में पवित्र आत्मा नहीं है, और वह यीशु को प्रभु नहीं कह सकता है, तो फिर पिता परमेश्वर के साथ उसका क्या संबंध है (यूहन्ना 1:12-13)? इसी प्रकार से हम रोमियों 8:9 से देखते हैं कि जब तक कि मसीह का आत्मा, अर्थात पवित्र आत्मा, किसी व्यक्ति में निवास नहीं करता है, तब तक वह प्रभु का जन नहीं है। यदि उसमें पवित्र आत्मा नहीं है तो फिर नया-जन्म पाए हुए नए मसीही विश्वासी की क्या आत्मिक स्थिति, क्या आत्मिक स्थान है? क्योंकि इन मत और डिनॉमिनेशनों की गढ़ी हुई धरण के अनुसार नया-जन्म पाए हुए नए मसीही विश्वासी को तुरन्त ही पवित्र आत्मा नहीं मिलता है, इसलिए फिर रोमियों 8:9 के आधार पर वह परमेश्वर का जन भी नहीं है। इन दोनों हवालों के संदर्भ में यदि अभी भी परमेश्वर उनका पिता है, तो यह कैसे संभव है कि वह विश्वासी पवित्र त्रिएक परमेश्वर की एक हस्ती के साथ पिता और सन्तान के घनिष्ठ संबंध में बना हुआ है, किन्तु अन्य दोनों के साथ उसका कोई संबंध नहीं है; वह उनमें से एक को न तो प्रभु कह सकता है और न ही उसका जन है? आप स्वयं ही देखिए कि किस तरह से चालाकी से गढ़ी गई यह शैतानी युक्ति पवित्र त्रिएक परमेश्वर में विभाजन और विच्छेदन उत्पन्न कर देती है। साथ ही, इस पर भी विचार कीजिए कि यदि पवित्र आत्मा के न होने से नया विश्वासी न तो यीशु को प्रभु कह सकता है, और न ही उसका जन है, तो फिर वह प्रभु से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रार्थना कैसे और किस आधार पर करेगा, और उसकी प्रार्थना क्योंकर सुनी जाएगी? ऐसे जन की प्रार्थना तो सदा ही अनुतरित ही रहेगी। यह झूठी मन-गढ़ंत शिक्षा देने के द्वारा, इन लोगों ने स्वयं ही अपनी शिक्षाओं में विरोधाभास उत्पन्न कर लिया है। इसलिए बाइबल इस धारणा का कोई समर्थन नहीं करती है कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना एक पृथक बात या अनुभव है।

    पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए “ठहरे रहना” प्रचार करने और सिखाने के लिए ये मत और डिनॉमिनेशन प्रेरितों 1:4-8 की गलत व्याख्या और उसका दुरुपयोग करते हैं। यह खण्ड प्रभु द्वारा अपने आरंभिक शिष्यों से सेवकाई पर जाने से पहले पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रतीक्षा करने से सम्बन्धित है। ध्यान कीजिए कि प्रभु ने उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा से सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने की प्रतीक्षा के लिए तो कहा, किन्तु यह कहीं नहीं कहा पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रार्थना करते रहें, या यह कि यदि वे प्रार्थना में नहीं माँगेंगे तो पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें नहीं मिलेगा। क्योंकि प्रभु तो उसके क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले ही उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा देने की प्रतिज्ञा कर चुका था (यूहन्ना 14:16; 15:26; 16:7); इसलिए उनका पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना एक पूर्व-निर्धारित बात थी, न कि उनके प्रार्थना करने और प्रतीक्षा करने पर निर्भर बात। साथ ही प्रेरितों 2:38 में जब पतरस के सन्देश से कायल हुए यहूदियों ने समाधान पूछा, तो पतरस ने उन से कहा कि विश्वास करें, बपतिस्मा लें, और उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा का दान मिलेगा; उसने उन से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रतीक्षा तथा प्रार्थना करने के लिए कुछ नहीं कहा। प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में ये बातें घुसाना मनुष्यों द्वारा गढ़ी गए बात है, न कि परमेश्वर द्वारा दिया गया सिद्धान्त। साथ ही यह भी ध्यान कीजिए कि शिष्यों के पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए इस आरंभिक प्रतीक्षा करने के अतिरिक्त, यह शिक्षा पूरे नए नियम में फिर कभी नहीं दोहराई गई है, न ही कभी इसका किसी अन्य स्थान पर कहीं पालन किया गया है, उस समय के ज्ञात सम्पूर्ण सँसार भर में होने वाले सुसमाचार प्रचार और कलीसियाओं के स्थापित किए जाने के बावजूद, कभी भी किसी से भी पवित्र आत्मा के लिए प्रतीक्षा और प्रार्थना करने के लिए नहीं कहा गया, और न ही कभी पूछा गया कि उन्होंने ऐसा क्यों नहीं किया?

The Elementary Principles – 10

Repentance From Dead Works - 6

 

    In our study of Elementary Principles from Hebrews 6:1-2, we are presently considering the first principle, i.e., repentance from dead works; i.e., repentance from those seemingly religious and good works, that do not cause any spiritual growth or maturity in the person doing them. So far, we have seen three kinds of dead works from the Bible - self-determined ministries (Matthew 7:21-23), self-determined worship of God (Matthew 15:3-9), and self-determined status of salvation (Acts 8:5-25). Today we will begin considering some very common misconceptions compellingly preached and taught by some sects and denominations, regarding God the Holy Spirit, His availability and His ministry amongst the people of God. These misconceptions and false teachings have already been considered on this blog in some past articles on teachings about the Holy Spirit and His ministry. So, we will only go through the main false teachings and wrong doctrines regarding the Holy Spirit and His ministry amongst the Christian Believers preached and taught by the sects and denominations.

    Some sects and denominations preach and teach that receiving the Holy Spirit after salvation is a separate experience, and receiving the Holy Spirit requires time and special efforts by the Believers. But as we have seen in the earlier articles of the present series, the clear teaching of God's Word is that the Holy Spirit is automatically given by God the Father to every truly Born-Again Christian Believer, from the moment of his salvation (Acts19:2; Ephesians 1:13-14; Galatians 3:2); to always reside in him, as long as he is on this earth (John 14:16-17). Moreover, we see from 1 Corinthians 12:3, that no one can call Jesus Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. So, if a newly Born-Again person does not have the Holy Spirit, then how can he address Jesus as Lord or pray to him as his Lord? Then, since he does not have the Holy Spirit, and cannot call upon the Lord Jesus, then what is his relationship with God the Father (John 1:12-13)? Similarly, we see from Romans 8:9 that unless the Spirit of Christ, i.e., the Holy Spirit dwells in a person, he does not belong to the Lord. Where then does the newly Born-Again Believer stand spiritually, if he does not have the Holy Spirit in him? Because according to the contrived notion of these sects and denominations, the newly Born-Again Believer does not immediately receive the Holy Spirit, therefore, by Romans 8:9, he does not belong to God. If, in context of both these references, God is still this Believer’s Father, then how is it possible for the Believer to be in the intimate relationship of Father and child with one member of the Holy Trinity, but have no relationship with the other two members; not even being able to call upon the Lord or belonging to the Lord? See for yourself how this subtle satanic ploy tries to disrupt and fragment the Holy Trinity. Also consider this, that since because of the Holy Spirit not being with him, therefore, the new Believer can neither address Jesus as Lord, nor will he be accepted as His, so then how, to whom, and on what basis can he pray to receive the Holy Spirit, and on what rounds will his prayer be heard and answered? The prayers of such a person will remain unanswered. By bringing this contrived teaching, these people have created a contradiction for themselves. Hence, the Bible does not support the contention that receiving the Holy Spirit is a separate experience.

    In teaching “tarrying” and praying to receive the Holy Spirit, these sects and denominations misinterpret and misapply Acts 1:4-8 which is about the Lord asking the initial disciples to wait till they had received the Holy Spirit before going out for their ministry. Notice, the Lord had asked them to wait to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, which He would send (John 14:16; 15:26; 16:7); but He never asked them to pray to receive the Holy Spirit, nor did He say that unless they prayed and asked for the Holy Spirit, He would not come upon them. Their receiving the Holy Spirit was a pre-determined thing, promised by the Lord even before His crucifixion, as given in the three references from John’s gospel above. Moreover, in Acts 2:38, in Peter’s answer to the Jews convicted by his message, though Peter says to them to believe and be baptized and they will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit; but Peter never asks them to “tarry,” or having believed to specially pray to receive the Holy Spirit. Inserting all these things into Acts 1:4-8 is man-made, and not a God given doctrine. Also notice that besides this initial waiting of the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit, this teaching has never been either repeated, nor practised anywhere else, nor was anyone ever asked why they did not do so, in the entire New Testament despite all the evangelistic activities and Church planting all over the known world.

    In trying to justify a delay in receiving the Holy Spirit, the adherents of these sects and denominations also use Acts 8:14-16, which is about the ministry of Philip amongst the Samaritans, and Acts 19:6, which is about the ministry of Paul amongst the disciples of John the Baptist who had started to follow Lord Jesus. In both instances, there was a clear delay in people coming to faith in the Lord and their receiving the Holy Spirit. But note that in neither of these instances, were the recipients of the Holy Spirit “tarrying,” praying, and fasting to receive the Holy Spirit. In fact, the disciples of John the Baptist had not even heard about the Holy Spirit (Acts 19:2). When Peter and John laid hands on the Samaritans (Acts 8:17-18), and Paul laid hands on the disciples of John the Baptist (Acts 19:6), these people received the Holy Spirit. We will consider and understand this later when learning about the fourth elementary principle, i.e., laying of hands. For now, suffice it to say that there is no Biblical support for the false teaching and wrong doctrine of receiving the Holy Spirit being separate from believing in the Lord Jesus and being Born-Again.

    Since the Holy Spirit is given to the Believer on his truly coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, and since God knows those who actually are His (2 Timothy 2:19), therefore those who sincerely repent of their sins and fully submit themselves to God, will also receive the Holy Spirit without even having to ask for him. But those who, in God’s eyes, are not truly Born-Again, have not actually repented of their sins, they will never receive the Holy Spirit no matter how long they tarry, how much they pray or fast about it – all of it will be vain and fruitless until they are truly Born-Again; when they do, they immediately and automatically will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift from God. So, this tarrying, praying, fasting etc. to receive the Holy Spirit is another kind of “dead work” since it is unBiblical and vain; it does not bring any spiritual growth or maturity.

    We will carry on from here in the next article, and learn about some more false teachings related to the holy Spirit preached and taught by these sects and denominations.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के विषय गलत शिक्षाएं

पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम इफिसियों 4:14 में दी गई बातों में से, बालकों के समान अपरिपक्व मसीही विश्वासियों और कलीसियाओं को प्रभावित करने वाले तीसरे दुष्प्रभाव, भ्रामक या गलत उपदेशों के बारे में देखते आ रहे हैं। इन गलत या भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के मुख्य स्वरूपों के बारे में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने प्रेरित पौलुस के द्वारा 2 कुरिन्थियों 11:4 में लिखवाया है कि इन भ्रामक शिक्षाओं के, गलत उपदेशों के, मुख्यतः तीन स्वरूप होते हैं, “यदि कोई तुम्हारे पास आकर, किसी दूसरे यीशु को प्रचार करे, जिस का प्रचार हम ने नहीं किया: या कोई और आत्मा तुम्हें मिले; जो पहिले न मिला था; या और कोई सुसमाचार जिसे तुम ने पहिले न माना था, तो तुम्हारा सहना ठीक होता”, जिन्हें शैतान और उसके लोग प्रभु यीशु के झूठे प्रेरित, धर्म के सेवक, और ज्योतिर्मय स्‍वर्गदूतों का रूप धारण कर के बताते और सिखाते हैं। सच्चाई को पहचानने और शैतान के झूठ से बचने के लिए इन तीनों स्वरूपों के साथ इस पद में एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी दी गई है। इस पद में लिखा है कि शैतान की युक्तियों के तीनों विषयों, प्रभु यीशु मसीह, पवित्र आत्मा, और सुसमाचार के बारे में जो यथार्थ और सत्य है वह वचन में पहले से ही बता दिया गया है।

 

इन तीनों प्रकार की गलत शिक्षाओं में से इस पद में सबसे पहली है कि शैतान और उस के जन, प्रभु यीशु के विषय ऐसी शिक्षाएं देते हैं जो वचन में नहीं दी गई हैं, और इसके बारे में हम पिछले दो लेखों में विस्तार से देख चुके हैं। दूसरी बात जिसके बारे में भ्रामक शिक्षा और गलत बातें सिखाए, फैलाई जाती हैं, वह है “कोई और आत्मा तुम्हें मिले; जो पहिले न मिला था”, गलत शिक्षा के पहले विषय के समान ही, इस दूसरी के लिए भी यहाँ यही लिखा गया है, “जो पहिले न मिला था” - अर्थात, जो भी गलत शिक्षाएं और बातें होंगी, वे उन शिक्षाओं और बातों के अतिरिक्त होंगी जो परमेश्वर के वचन में पहले से लिखवा दी गई हैं, और जिनके आधार पर उन शिक्षाओं को परखा, जाँचा, और उनकी सत्यता को स्थापित किया जा सकता है।

 

यहाँ, इस पद और वाक्य में ध्यान कीजिए कि पवित्र आत्मा मिलने की बात भूत-काल (past tense) में की गई है - उन विश्वासियों को पवित्र आत्मा दिया जा चुका था; भविष्य में नहीं मिलना था। साथ ही झूठे शिक्षकों द्वारा जिस आत्मा को देने की बात की जा रही थी, उसे “कोई और आत्मा” कहा गया है। जो आत्मा पवित्र आत्मा के अतिरिक्त कोई और आत्मा होगा, और व्यक्ति के अंदर आकर उसे प्रभावित एवं नियंत्रित करेगा, निःसंदेह वह परमेश्वर का, या फिर परमेश्वर से तो नहीं होगा। इसलिए यह कोई और आत्मा शैतान का दुष्ट आत्मा ही होगा, क्योंकि इन दोनों आत्माओं के अतिरिक्त तो तीसरी किसी श्रेणी का आत्मा हो ही नहीं सकता है।

 

आज से हम परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के संबंध में बताई और फैलाई जाने वाली कुछ सामान्य गलत शिक्षाओं और सिद्धांतों के विषय देखेंगे, जिन्हें भ्रामक रीति से और बहुधा कुछ चमत्कारिक कार्यों के साथ फैलाया और सिखाया जाता है, जिससे वे प्रभावी और “ईश्वरीय” प्रतीत हों।

 

प्रभु यीशु ने अपने क्रूस पर चढ़ाए जाने से पहले अपने शिष्यों को आश्वस्त किया था कि उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा एक सहायक के रूप में दिया जाएगा (यूहन्ना 14:16, 26), और परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु की ओर से सहायक के रूप में प्रत्येक वास्तव में उद्धार पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को दिया गया है। किन्तु प्रभु की इस आशीष को ये गलत शिक्षा फैलाने वाले लोग मनुष्यों द्वारा नियंत्रित और निर्देशित करने का प्रयास करते हैं। परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल की स्पष्ट शिक्षाओं के विरुद्ध, उनकी एक मुख्य गलत शिक्षा है कि मसीही विश्वासियों को पवित्र आत्मा उद्धार पाते ही नहीं मिलता है, वरन उसके लिए प्रतीक्षा, प्रार्थनाएं और प्रयास करने पड़ते हैं। और फिर ये झूठे प्रेरित और शिक्षक अपने उन प्रयासों, प्रार्थनाओं, विधियों को बताते हैं, जो उनके अनुसार पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए आवश्यक हैं, और बाइबल के हवालों को संदर्भ से बाहर दुरुपयोग करके, अपनी बात को सही ठहराने के प्रयास करते हैं। साथ ही पवित्र आत्मा पाने के लिए प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए वे प्रेरितों 1:4-8 का भी हवाला देते हैं, इस हवाले का संदर्भ के बाहर दुरुपयोग करते हैं।

 

प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में प्रभु यीशु ने अपने स्वर्गारोहण से पहले शिष्यों को आज्ञा दी कि वे यरूशलेम को न छोड़ें, वरन वहीं बने रहकर परमेश्वर पिता द्वारा जो प्रतिज्ञा दी गई है, और जिसकी चर्चा प्रभु यीशु ने पहले उन से की है, उसकी प्रतीक्षा करते रहें – यह प्रतिज्ञा स्पष्ट शब्दों में इससे अगले पद, पद 5 में, तथा पद 8 में बताई गई है। पद 5 और 8 से यह स्पष्ट है कि प्रभु शिष्यों से जिस प्रतिज्ञा के पूरे होने की प्रतीक्षा करने को कह रहा था, वह शिष्यों के द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करना था।

यहाँ दो बातों पर ध्यान देना आवश्यक है:

पहली बात, शिष्यों को सेवकाई पर निकलने से पहले, प्रतिज्ञा के पूरा होने तक प्रतीक्षा करनी थी, सेवकाई पर जाने के लिए परमेश्वर के सही समय का इंतजार करना था। किन्तु प्रभु ने उन्हें यह नहीं कहा कि उस प्रतीक्षा के समय के दौरान उन्हें कुछ विशेष करते रहने होगा जिसे करने के द्वारा ही फिर उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा दिया जाएगा; या उनके परमेश्वर से विशेष रीति से मांगने से, आग्रह करने या गिड़गिड़ाने से, अथवा कोई अन्य विशेष प्रयास करने के परिणामस्वरूप फिर परमेश्वर उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा देगा, जैसे कि आज बहुत से लोग और डिनॉमिनेशन सिखाते हैं, करने के लिए बल देते हैं, विशेष सभाएं रखते हैं। पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त होने की प्रतिज्ञा का पूरा किया जाना परमेश्वर के द्वारा, उसके समय और उसके तरीके से होना था, न कि इन शिष्यों के किसी विशेष रीति से मांगने या कोई विशेष कार्य अथवा प्रयास करने से होना था।

बाइबल के गलत अर्थ निकालने और अनुचित शिक्षा देने का सबसे प्रमुख और सामान्य कारण है किसी बात या वाक्य को संदर्भ से बाहर लेकर, और उस से संबंधित किसी संक्षिप्त वाक्यांश के आधार पर, अपनी ही समझ के अनुसार एक सिद्धांत (doctrine) खड़ा कर लेना, उसे सिखाने लग जाना। प्रभु की कही इस बात के आधार पर भी ऐसे ही यह गलत शिक्षा दी जाती है कि पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रतीक्षा करना और प्रयास करना आवश्यक है।

इस विषय पर यह ध्यान देने योग्य एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य है कि सम्पूर्ण नए नियम में फिर कहीं यह प्रतीक्षा करना न तो सिखाया गया है, और ना इस बात के लिए कभी किसी को कोई उलाहना दिया गया है कि उन्होंने प्रतीक्षा अथवा प्रयास क्यों नहीं किया, और न ही नए मसीही विश्वासियों या नई स्थापित विश्वासी मण्डलियों को यह निर्देश अथवा शिक्षा दी गई कि वे पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने के लिए कुछ विशेष करें। न ही किसी में विश्वास अथवा सामर्थ्य की कमी के लिए उससे कहा गया कि कुछ विशेष प्रयास अथवा प्रतीक्षा कर के वे पवित्र आत्मा को प्राप्त करें, और उससे प्रभु की सेवकाई के लिए सामर्थी बनें। वरन अन्य सभी स्थानों पर यही बताया और सिखाया गया है कि पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करते ही, तुरंत ही दे दिया जाता है।

·        प्रेरितों 19:2 – विश्वास करते समय

·        इफिसियों 1:13-14 – विश्वास करते ही छाप लगी

·        गलातियों 3:2 – विश्वास के समाचार से

·        तीतुस 3:5 – नए जन्म का स्नान और पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा नया बनाया जाना, एक साथ ही और एक ही बात के लिए लिखे गए हैं। 

दूसरी बात, प्रेरितों 1:4-8 में प्रभु उन्हें स्मरण दिला रहा है कि वह उन्हें पहले भी इसके बारे में न केवल बता चुका है, वरन इसके विषय उनसे चर्चा भी कर चुका है, अर्थात विस्तार से उन्हें बता और समझा चुका है। उन शिष्यों के साथ, सेवकाई के दिनों में, प्रभु ने कई बार उन से पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त करने की बात कही थी; किन्तु हर बार यह भविष्य काल में ही होने की बात थी; अर्थात प्रभु ने उन्हें यही सिखाया था पवित्र आत्मा उन्हें बाद में उचित समय पर दिया जाएगा। किन्तु अपनी बात को सही दिखाने के लिए ये गलत शिक्षाओं वाले लोग वचन के हवालों और वहाँ लिखी बात को अनुचित रीति से बताते हैं। इस बारे में उनके द्वारा सामान्यतः प्रयोग किए जाने वाले हवाले और उनसे संबंधित बातें हैं :

• लूका 11:13 – इस पद का दुरुपयोग यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि प्रभु ने कहा है कि पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर से मांगने पर मिलता है। जबकि यदि इस पद को उसके संदर्भ (पद 11-13) में देखें, तो यह स्पष्ट है कि यह आलंकारिक भाषा का प्रयोग है, एक तुलनात्मक कथन है। प्रभु, किसी सांसारिक पिता के अपनी संतान की आवश्यकता के लिए उसे सर्वोत्तम देने की मनसा रखने की बात कर रहा है। जैसे सांसारिक पिता अपने बच्चों को यथासंभव उत्तम देता है, वैसे ही परमेश्वर भी “अपने” लोगों को – जो प्रभु यीशु में विश्वास लाने के द्वारा उसकी संतान बन गए हैं (यूहन्ना 1:12-13)। साथ ही, हर किसी मांगने वाले को पवित्र आत्मा देने के लिए परमेश्वर बाध्य नहीं है; मांगने वाले का मन भी इसके लिए ठीक होना चाहिए, अर्थात उसे वास्तव में नया अजन्म पाया हुआ होना चाहिए। प्रेरितों 8:18-23 में शमौन टोन्हा करने वाले को गलत मनसा रखते हुए पवित्र आत्मा मांगने से अच्छी डाँट-फटकार मिली, न कि पवित्र आत्मा, और उसकी वास्तविकता उजागर कर दी गई यद्यपि वह प्रभु में विश्वास करने का दावा करता था; उसने बपतिस्मा भी लिया था, और विश्वासियों की संगति में भी रहता था (प्रेरितों 8:13)।

• यूहन्ना 7:37-39 – “बह निकलेंगी”; “पाने पर थे” – भविष्य काल – और साथ ही शर्त भी कह दी गई है कि ऐसा उनके लिए होगा “जो उस पर विश्वास करने वाले” होंगे – जैसा ऊपर देख चुके हैं, जो विश्वास करेगा, उसे विश्वास करते ही तुरंत ही मिल जाएगा; जिसने सच्चा विश्वास नहीं किया (यह केवल प्रभु ही जानता है, कोई मनुष्य नहीं), उसे नहीं मिलेगा, वह चाहे कितनी भी प्रार्थनाएं, प्रतीक्षा, या प्रयास करता रहे। जिसने विश्वास किया, उसे फिर कुछ और करने की आवश्यकता नहीं है, और न ही करने के लिए कहा गया है।

• यूहन्ना 14:16-17 – “देगा”, “होगा” – भविष्य काल – पिता देगा, और फिर वह सर्वदा साथ रहेगा – आएगा और जाएगा नहीं, जैसे पुराने नियम में था (ओत्निएल न्यायियों 3:9,10; गिदोन न्यायियों 6:34; यिप्ताह, शमसून, राजा शाऊल 1 शमूएल 10:6, 10; दाऊद 1 शमूएल 16:13)

• यूहन्ना 16:7 – “आएगा” – भविष्य काल – भविष्य में आना था; उसी समय नहीं

• यूहन्ना 20:22 – “लो” – अभी तक जो भविष्य की बात कही जा रही थी, अब उसका समय आ गया था, अब इस बात को पूरा होना था, एक प्रक्रिया के अंतर्गत प्राप्त करना था।  प्रभु ने यह अपने पुनरुत्थान के बाद शिष्यों से कहा – उन्हें पहले की प्रतिज्ञा स्मरण करवाई, और स्वर्गारोहण के समय उसकी प्रक्रिया भी बताई (लूका 24:49)। पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु की फूँक में नहीं था, और न ही कभी फूंकने के द्वारा किसी को दिया गया।

पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित कुछ अन्य गलत शिक्षाओं, जैसे के अन्य भाषाएँ बोलना, पवित्र आत्मा के उद्देश्य और कार्य, आदि को हम आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे।

 

यदि आप एक सच्चे मसीही विश्वासी हैं, पापों से पश्चाताप करने और प्रभु यीशु से उनकी क्षमा माँगने, अपना जीवन प्रभु को समर्पित करने के द्वारा आपने नया जन्म अर्थात उद्धार पाया है, तो आपके उद्धार पाने के पल से ही परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आप में निवास कर रहा है, आपकी सहायता और शिक्षा के लिए आप में विद्यमान है। इसलिए किसी गलत शिक्षा में न फंसे, और यदि पड़ गए हैं तो उपरोक्त पदों का ध्यान करते हुए, उन शिक्षाओं से बाहर आ जाएं। पवित्र आत्मा परमेश्वर है, किसी मनुष्य के हाथों की कठपुतली नहीं जिसे कोई मनुष्य अपने किन्हीं प्रयासों द्वारा नियंत्रित और निर्देशित कर सके।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

Some False Notions About Receiving The Holy Spirit

 

    In the past few articles, from Ephesians 4:14, we have been considering about the deceptive teachings and tricks of Satan that adversely influence the immature Christian Believers and the Church. The Holy Spirit has got written about these deceptive teachings by the Apostle Paul, “For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!” (2 Corinthians 11:4); i.e., there are mainly three themes or topics on which Satan and his followers usually present their false teachings to beguile and mislead the people. They disguise themselves as false apostles, ministers of righteousness, and angels of light to preach and teach these deceptive doctrines, using various tricks to impress and influence people, and cunningly making them think that these satanic agents are actually divine. In this verse we have also been given another very important fact, that helps us to identify the deceptions of Satan and escape falling for them. This verse tells us that all things that are true, factual, and to be accepted about the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Gospel, have already been given in God’s Word; thereby implying that anything outside of God’s Word is from Satan, and is not to be accepted. Therefore, anyone who is established in God’s Word and is well versed with Biblical teachings about the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Gospel, will immediately be able to identify the false doctrines and wrong teachings, the unBiblical things, deceptively being brought in by Satan, and will not fall for Satan’s tricks.

The first theme given in 2 Corinthians 11:4 is wrong teachings and concepts about the Lord Jesus; and we have seen them in some detail in the previous two articles. The second theme mentioned in this verse is about the Holy Spirit, “if you receive a different spirit which you have not received”. As for the wrong teachings about the first theme, for this second theme too it is written here, “which you have not received” - implying that all the wrong and deceptive teachings will be those that are other than the ones already given in the Word of God. And, these correct teachings that have already been given can be used as a standard to measure and evaluate the other teachings and ascertain whether they are true or not.

Take note about this verse and the sentence related to the Holy Spirit, that it is in the past tense, even receiving the Holy Spirit mentioned here is in the past tense; i.e., those Believers had already received the Holy Spirit, they were not going to receive it in the future. Also, the spirit that would come through these false teachers has been called “some other spirit.” Doubtless, that the spirit other than the Holy Spirit, that is being cautioned about and which can come in a person and control or direct him, it will not be from God or be of God. Therefore, this “other spirit” cannot be any other than satanic or demonic, since there is no third category of spirits.

From today we will start looking at some wrong doctrines and false teachings about the Holy Spirit, that are deceptively spread, often with tricks to make them appear impressive and ‘divine.’

The Lord Jesus had assured His disciples before His crucifixion that the Holy Spirit will be given to them as their Helper (John 14:16, 26), and is given by the Lord God to every truly Born-Again Christian Believer. But these preachers of wrong things, try to control and manipulate this blessing from God by men. Contrary to the clear and unambiguous teachings of the Bible, one of the main false teachings of these deceptive people is that the Holy Spirit is not received at the time of salvation, but one has to ‘tarry’, pray, and make efforts to receive it. Then these false teachers and preachers tell their contrived methods involving waiting, efforts, and prayers, which according to them are necessary to receive the Holy Spirit. They try to justify it all by taking portions of God’s Word out of their context, misinterpret and misuse them to justify their wrong teachings. To justify their notion of “tarrying” they misquote and misuse Acts 1:4-8, taking it out of its context. Let us look at it in its context:

In Acts 1:4-8 the Lord Jesus gave an instruction to His disciples that they should not leave Jerusalem, but remain there, wait for the promise of the Lord God, about which the Lord Jesus had talked to them earlier, and wait for this promise to be fulfilled. Then, what this promise is, is made very clear in the subsequent verses 5 and 8, that it is the disciple’s receiving the Holy Spirit.

There are two very important things to take note of over here:

Firstly, the disciples, before going out to preach the gospel had to wait for the promise to be fulfilled, had to wait for God’s time to proceed for their ministry. But the Lord never said to them that while they were waiting, they will have to do something special, or persistently plead for the Holy Spirit before God, or make some special efforts so that because of those efforts or pleadings God will grant them the Holy Spirit, as many denominations and people preach and teach, and for this they organize special meetings too, and emphasize on the necessity of all these things. The giving of the Holy Spirit was to be in God’s time and by God’s method, not by anything, any special efforts or prayers and pleadings that these disciples would do.

The most common and important cause of misinterpreting and deriving wrong teachings from the Bible is using some word, or phrase, or sentence, or passage out of its context, and then based on that limited portion of God’s Word, build up a doctrine and start preaching and teaching it. This misuse of God’s Word is the basis of preaching and teaching this false doctrine that one has to wait, pray, and make special efforts to receive the Holy Spirit.

A very important point to ponder over about this doctrine is that in the whole of the New Testament, never again has this concept of “tarrying” or waiting and pleading ever been stated or taught. Also, nowhere in the New Testament, amongst the newly formed Churches and new-comers to the faith in Christ, has anyone ever been admonished that they should have waited and pleaded before God to receive the Holy Spirit, or has ever again been advised to wait. Neither anyone weak in faith and struggling in his ministry was ever advised to make some special efforts to obtain the Holy Spirit and be empowered to carry on in the ministry. Rather, at many places it has been taught and told that the Holy Spirit is given by the Lord the moment one comes to faith in the Lord, is Born Again. Consider some verses:

• Acts 10:44; 11:15, 17 - on believing and coming into faith

• Acts 19:2 - on believing

• Ephesians 1:13-14 - sealed by the Holy Spirit on being saved

• Galatians 3:2 - By the hearing of faith

• Titus 3:5 - “the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” have been mentioned together for the same thing.

 

Secondly, In Acts 1:4-8 the Lord is reminding them that He had already told them about Him, had already discussed about this with them, i.e., had explained to them in detail about their receiving the Holy Spirit. During the time of His ministry on earth, while with the disciples, the Lord had talked to them about receiving the Holy Spirit on multiple occasions; but every time, it was stated in the future tense, i.e., the Lord had been teaching them thaat at an appropriate time they would receive the Holy Spirit. But these preachers and teachers of false doctrines, to justify their teachings, misuse and misinterpret what the Lord had said to the disciples. The commonly used Bible references, and what they say are:

• Luke 11:13 - This verse is misused to show that the Lord has said that the Holy Spirit will be given to those who ask for Him. But when we look at this verse in its context (verses 11-13), then it becomes clear that this statement of the Lord is a figure of speech, a comparative statement. The Lord is talking about an earthly father desiring to give the best possible to his child. As an earthly father wants to give the best that he possibly can to his child, similarly God the Father too wants to give the best that He can to His children - the Holy Spirit - to those who have become His children by accepting the Lord Jesus as their saviour (John 1:12-13). Moreover, God is under no compulsion to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks for Him; the one desiring to have the Holy Spirit, should also be an actually Born-Again or saved person. In Acts 8:18-23, Simon the Sorcerer wanted to receive the Holy Spirit with a wrong motive, but all he got was a severe admonition, not the Holy Spirit, and his actual condition of not being in the faith was exposed, although he claimed to believe in the Lord Jesus, had taken baptism, and used to stay in fellowship with the Believers (Acts 8:13).

• John 7:37-39 - Note the future tense phrases “will flow rivers of living water”, “the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive”, and a condition has also been given that this will happen for “He who believes in Me”; i.e., he who believes in the Lord will also receive the Holy Spirit; but the one who has not really come to the faith (no man knows this about another, only the Lord does), will not receive, as we have seen above, no matter how many prayers, pleading, efforts, and tarrying he may do. But the one who has actually come into faith in the Lord Jesus will not have to do anything, nor has he been asked to do anything, the saved person will automatically receive the Holy Spirit also.

• John 14:16-17 - Again future tense phrases “He will give you another Helper”, “will be in you” have been used with the assurance that it is God who will give, and then the Holy Spirit will abide or remain in the Believer always, unlike what used to happen in the Old Testament where the Spirit would come for a purpose and duration and then go away,  (Othniel in Judges 3:9,10; Gideon in Judges 6:34; King Saul in 1 Samuel 10:6, 10; David in 1 Samuel 16:13).

• John 16:7 - Another future tense phrase “Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you” - the Spirit had to come to the disciples sometime in future, when the Lord would send Him.

• John 20:22 - “Receive the Holy Spirit” A post-resurrection statement from the Lord to the disciples; what had been for the future, its time had now come, it had to be fulfilled in a particular manner. The Lord, after His resurrection, reminded the disciples of the previously made promise, and then at the time of His ascension, told them about the fulfilling (Luke 24:49). The Holy Spirit was not in the breath of the Lord that He breathed upon the disciples, nor was He ever given to anyone by breathing upon the person.

Some other wrong teachings and false doctrines related to the Holy Spirit, e.g., speaking in tongues, the purposes and works of the Holy Spirit, etc., we will see in the subsequent articles.

If you really are a Christian Believer, if you have been Born-Again by repenting of your sins, asking the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and surrendering your life to the Lord Jesus, then God the Holy Spirit is residing in you since the moment of your salvation, to teach and help you. Therefore, do not fall for any wrong teachings; and in case you have got entangled with the wrong teachings, keeping the above-mentioned verses in mind, come out of the wrong teachings. The Holy Spirit is God, not a puppet in the hands of men, that can be manipulated and dispensed by man-made methods.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
