परमेश्वर के वचन का स्वरूप और स्वभाव

 

पुनःअवलोकन: इससे, पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम मसीही भण्डारीपन के बारे में देखते चले आ रहे हैं, और हमने यह भी देखा है कि परमेश्वर का एक अयोग्य भण्डारी होने का क्या अर्थ है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि प्रत्येक सच्चा 'नया जन्म' पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, प्रभु यीशु पर विश्वास करने के क्षण से ही स्वतः ही परमेश्वर का भण्डारी बन जाता है (1 पतरस 4:10-11); और अंततः, वह प्रभु को अपने जीवन और भण्डारीपन का लेखा देगा (रोमियों 14:12; 2 कुरिन्थियों 5:10)। परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को कुछ कार्य या सेवा सौंपी है (इफिसियों 2:10), और सौंपे गए कार्य को पूरा करने के लिए सभी को उचित प्रावधान दिए हैं (इफिसियों 4:7-8; इब्रानियों 2:4)। ये प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उनके भण्डारीपन का निर्वाह करने के लिए मार्गदर्शन करने, सहायता करने, और उसे सक्षम बनाने के लिए दिए गए हैं। परमेश्वर ने प्रत्येक विश्वासी को कम से कम चार चीजें दी हैं, ये हैं: उसका वचन, उसका पवित्र आत्मा, उसकी कलीसिया में उसकी सन्तान और परिवार के सदस्य के रूप में संगति, और परमेश्वर द्वारा व्यक्ति को सौंपी गई सेवा के लिए उपयुक्त आत्मिक वरदान। आज से, हम परमेश्वर के इन चार प्रावधानों में से पहले, अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति अपने भण्डारीपन की जिम्मेदारी पर विचार करना शुरू करेंगे।

परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने को समझने से पहले, हमारे लिए अच्छा होगा यदि हम परमेश्वर के वचन, मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन में उसकी भूमिका, और हमें वचन का भला भण्डारी क्यों होना है, आदि बातों को समझ लें।

बाइबल कोई साधारण पुस्तक नहीं है; इसे जीवित वचन भी कहा जाता है – और किसी भी जीवित व्यक्ति के समान, यह उन सभी से वार्तालाप करती है जो उसका आदर करते हैं, उसमें विश्वास करते हैं, उसमें लिखी बातों पर तथा जो वह उनसे कहती है उस पर भरोसा करते हैं। बाइबल कुछ लोगों के मनन, चर्चाओं, और विचार-विमर्श की बातों का भी लेखा नहीं है। सम्पूर्ण बाइबल परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई है, अर्थात् परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की प्रेरणा और मार्गदर्शन में मनुष्यों द्वारा लिखी गई है (2 शमूएल 23:2; 2 तीमुथियुस 3:16; 2 पतरस 1:20-21)। ऐसा भी हुआ कि कभी-कभी लिखने वालों को वह समझ में भी नहीं आ रहा था जो लिखने की उन्हें प्रेरणा मिल रही थी; किन्तु परमेश्वर के आत्मा ने फिर भी उन्हें लिखने और भविष्य के लिए छोड़ देने के लिए कहा (यशायाह 29:11; दानिय्येल 8:17, 26; 12:4, 9)।

 

परमेश्वर के अन्य लोगों (कुलुस्सियों 1:26-27) के साथ ही, प्रेरित पौलुस को भी उन भेदों की समझ प्रदान की गई थी, कि उन्हें मसीही विश्वासियों पर प्रकट करे (रोमियों 11:25; 16:25; 1 कुरिन्थियों 2:7; 15:51; इफिसियों 3:3-4, 9; 5:32; 6:19; कुलुस्सियों 4:3), और प्रेरित यूहन्ना पर अंत के समय के भेद प्रकट किए गए जो बाइबल की प्रकाशितवाक्य नामक पुस्तक में लिखे गए हैं। इसलिए, कभी भी बाइबल को संसार के लोगों के द्वारा लिखी गई किसी भी अन्य पुस्तक के समान न तो देखा जा सकता है और न ही लिया जा सकता है; यह अपने आप में अनोखी, अनुपम है। यह परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने के लिए ‘भले बनो और भलाई करो’ के सिद्धांत पर लिखी गयी कहानियों, घटनाओं और शिक्षाओं की पुस्तक नहीं है।

यूहन्ना रचित सुसमाचार का आरम्भ इन शब्दों के साथ होता है, “आदि में वचन था, और वचन परमेश्वर के साथ था, और वचन परमेश्वर था” (यूहन्ना 1:1); और फिर वह आगे कहता है, “और वचन देहधारी हुआ; और अनुग्रह और सच्चाई से परिपूर्ण हो कर हमारे बीच में डेरा किया, और हम ने उस की ऐसी महिमा देखी, जैसी पिता के एकलौते की महिमा” (यूहन्ना 1:14)। ये दो पद यह बिलकुल स्पष्ट कर देते हैं क्यों बाइबल को ‘जीवित वचन’ कहा जाता है; क्योंकि बाइबल के रूप में हमारे हाथों में प्रभु यीशु, स्वयं परमेश्वर लिखित या छपे हुए स्वरूप में विद्यमान है।

यह हमारे सामने विचार करने और ध्यान रखने के लिए एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण विषय ले कर आता है, ऐसा जिस पर अधिकांश लोग न तो विचार करते हैं और न ही जिसका ध्यान रखते हैं। अर्थात्, बाइबल में किया गया कोई भी परिवर्तन, उसके साथ कोई भी दुर्व्यवहार, उसका कैसे भी दुरुपयोग का अभिप्राय, उसकी कोई भी गलत व्याख्या, यह सब प्रभु यीशु के साथ किये जाने के तुल्य है, अर्थात् परमेश्वर का अनादर करने, उसके साथ अनुचित व्यवहार करने के तुल्य है। इसलिए इसमें कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है कि परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन में बहुत सख्ती से चेतावनी दी है कि उस में न तो कुछ जोड़ा जाए, और न ही उस में से कुछ घटाया जाए (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:2; नीतिवचन 30:6; प्रकाशितवाक्य 22:18-19); ऐसा करने के बहुत गंभीर और कठोर परिणाम होंगे। पौलुस ने भी अपने उदाहरण के द्वारा इस बात पर बल दिया (2 कुरिन्थियों 2:17; 4:2); तथा अन्य लोगों के लिए शिक्षा दी कि परमेश्वर के वचन को ठीक रीति से काम में लाएँ (2 तिमुथियुस 2:15), अर्थात्  परमेश्वर के वचन की ठीक व्याख्या करें और सही समझाएँ।

यहीं से मसीही विश्वासियों का परमेश्वर के वचन का भण्डारी होने की भूमिका का आरम्भ होता है – वह यह सुनिश्चित करे कि वचन के साथ न तो कोई छेड़खानी की जाए, न उससे अनुचित व्यवहार, और न उसका दुरुपयोग, या गलत व्याख्या हो। हम इसके बारे में आगे अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Substance and Nature of God’s Word

 

Review: At the beginning of this series, we had seen from 1 Kings 2:2-4, where David, towards the end of his life, was instructing his son and heir, Solomon, about four things, so that he would lead a blessed and successful life, through the guidance and support of God. The second, of these four instructions given by David was that Solomon must be a worthy steward of all that God has given to him. From this, in the past few articles we have seen about Christian stewardship, and what it means to be an unworthy steward of God. We had also seen that every truly Born-Again Christian Believer, from the moment of coming to faith in Lord Jesus is automatically, also God’s steward (1 Peter 4:10-11); and eventually, will give an account of his life and stewardship to the Lord (Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10). God has assigned some work or ministry to every Christian Believer (Ephesians 2:10), and has given everyone the appropriate provisions to carry out the assigned work (Ephesians 4:7–8; Hebrews 2:4). These have been given to guide, help, and enable them to fulfill their stewardship, to every Christian Believer. God has given at least four things to every Believer; These are: His Word, His Holy Spirit, Church Fellowship as His child and family member, and an appropriate gift for the person’s God assigned ministry. From today, we will start considering our stewardship of the first of these four provisions of God, i.e., God' s Word.

Before understanding about the stewardship of God’s Word, we will do well to understand what God’s Word is, its role in the life of a Christian Believer, and why we need to be good stewards of God’s Word. 

The Bible is no ordinary book; it is known as the Living Word - and as any living person, it communicates and interacts with those who honor it, believe in it, trust what is written in it and what it is saying to them. Neither is the Bible a record of the meditations, discussions, and deliberations of some people. The whole of the Bible is ‘God breathed’, i.e., written down by men under the inspiration and guidance of God’s Holy Spirit (2 Samuel 23:2; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). There were times when the authors did not understand what they were being inspired to write down what they were writing; but God’s Spirit asked them to write it and leave it for later times (Isaiah 29:11; Daniel 8:17, 26; 12:4, 9).

 

Along with other people of God (Colossians 1:26-27), the Apostle Paul was given the understanding for some of these mysteries, to reveal them to Christian Believers (Romans 11:25; 16:25; 1 Corinthians 2:7; 15:51; Ephesians 3:3-4, 9; 5:32; 6:19; Colossians 4:3); and to the Apostle John, the mystery of the end-times was revealed, as he recorded it in the book of Revelation in the Bible. Hence, the Bible can never be taken or seen as another book written by people of the world; it is unique, not just a collection of stories, incidents, and teachings written on the principle of ‘do good and be good’ to become acceptable to God.

The Gospel of John begins with these words: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1); and then goes on to say, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). These two verses make it abundantly clear to us why the Bible is called The Living Word; because in the form of The Bible, we have the Lord Jesus, God Himself, in our hands in a printed or written form.

This brings up a very important consideration before us, something that most people neither ponder over, nor pay heed to, i.e., any alteration, mishandling, misuse, misinterpretation of the Bible is tantamount to doing it to the Lord Jesus, and thereby maltreating and dishonoring God Himself. No wonder then that God has very strictly cautioned in His Word not to add anything to it, nor take anything away from it (Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:6; Revelation 22:18-19); doing so has severe consequences. Paul too emphasizes this through his own example (2 Corinthians 2:17; 4:2), and exhorts others to be careful to rightly ‘divide’, i.e., interpret and expound God’s Word (2 Timothy 2:15).

This is where the role of Christian Believers as stewards of God’s Word the Bible comes in - to ensure that it is not tampered with, it is not misused, misinterpreted, mishandled, and is always presented in its actual form to others. We will see more on this in the next article.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

सही सुसमाचार के 7 प्रभाव (2)

पिछले लेखों में हमने गलातीयों 1:1-7 से वास्तविक सुसमाचार के 7 गुणों या स्वभावों को देखा है, जिससे असली और नकली सुसमाचार के मध्य पहचान कर सकें। पिछले लेख से हमने उन 7 प्रभावों को देखना आरम्भ किया है जो असली सुसमाचार के मानने से व्यक्ति के जीवन में आते हैं, जब वह सच्चे सुसमाचार को ग्रहण करके उसके अनुसार जीवन जीना आरम्भ करता है। पिछले लेख में हमने गलातीयों अध्याय 1 में से इनमें से पहले दो प्रभाव देखे हैं। शेष पाँच प्रभाव अध्याय 2 में हैं, जिन्हें हम आज के लेख में देखेंगे।

असली सुसमाचार के 7 प्रभाव:

पिछले लेख में हम गलातीयों 1 अध्याय से असली या सही सुसमाचार के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु के सच्चे विश्वासी जन और उसकी वास्तविक कलीसिया में आने वाले पहले दो प्रभावों को देख चुके हैं। इनमें से पहला प्रभाव है कि सही या वास्तविक सुसमाचार व्यक्ति को मनुष्यों के नहीं परमेश्वर के भय और आज्ञाकारिता में चलने, हर परिस्थिति और हर कीमत पर केवल परमेश्वर ही को प्रसन्न करने की मनसा में बने रहने की सामर्थ्य और मार्गदर्शन देता है, और मनुष्यों के एहसान, नियंत्रण, तथा अधीनता में रहने के स्वभाव से मुक्त करता है। और दूसरा प्रभाव है कि सही या असली सुसमाचार परमेश्वर के लोगों के मध्य परस्पर प्रेम, मेल-मिलाप, सहभागिता, सहिष्णुता को बढ़ावा देता है, एक दूसरे के लिए परमेश्वर की महिमा करने को प्रेरित करता है, न कि विभाजन, बैर, अलगाव और विरोध तथा एक-दूसरे से ऊँचा-नीचा होने की भावनाओं को। 

आज हम यहाँ से आगे, सही या असली सुसमाचार के शेष पाँच प्रभाव, गलातीयों 2 अध्याय से देखेंगे:

3. गलातीयों 2:1-2 - सही सुसमाचार का तीसरा प्रभाव हम पौलुस की सेवकाई के उदाहरण में देखते हैं। पौलुस को परमेश्वर ने अन्य-जातियों में सुसमाचार सुनाने के लिए ठहराया था (प्रेरितों 9:15)। परमेश्वर की अगुवाई में चौदह वर्ष तक अन्य-जातियों में सेवकाई के बाद परमेश्वर ने उसे यरूशलेम जाने के लिए कहा, और वह बरनबास तथा तीतुस के साथ यरूशलेम को गया। तीसरा प्रभाव है कि सही सुसमाचार के पालन और सेवकाई से परमेश्वर की सहायता, उस का मार्गदर्शन मिलता है, और परमेश्वर का जन औरों के साथ मिलकर, औरों को भी आदर और अवसर देते हुए अपनी इस ज़िम्मेदारी को निभाता है। 

4. चौथा प्रभाव भी हम गलातीयों 2:1-2 में ही देखते हैं। यहाँ दो पद बताता है कि ईश्वरीय प्रकाशन के अनुसार पौलुस यरूशलेम को गया, इस उद्देश्य से कि उन्हें अपनी सेवकाई और प्रचार के बारे में बताए - उन्हें सिखाने या उन्हें प्रभावित करने के लिए नहीं, वरन यरूशलेम में कलीसिया में बड़े समझे जाने वाले लोगों के द्वारा जाँचे जाने के लिए कि कहीं उसका परिश्रम व्यर्थ तो नहीं है (पद 2 का अंतिम वाक्य देखिए)। सही सुसमाचार का चौथा प्रभाव है कि उसके अनुसार चलने वाला व्यक्ति विनम्र और इस सेवकाई में लगे अन्य वरिष्ठ लोगों द्वारा जाँचे तथा सुधारे जाने के लिए तैयार रहता है; उसमें घमण्ड और अपनी सेवकाई में सिद्ध होने की भावना नहीं होती है। 

5. गलातीयों 2:3-5 - सही सुसमाचार के अनुसार चलने और कार्य करने के द्वारा प्रभु का जन और कलीसिया, “झूठे भाइयों”, मण्डली में गलत शिक्षाओं को लाने और फैलाने वाले लोगों पहचानने पाते हैं, और उनका सामना करने, उनके आगे न झुकने की समझ और सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करते हैं। सही सुसमाचार का पाँचवां प्रभाव है सही और गलत का आँकलन करने और सही पर बने रहने तथा गलत का प्रतिरोध करने की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करना। 

6. गलातीयों 2:6-10 - हम यहाँ 6 पद के आरंभ से ही देखते हैं कि यरूशलेम में कलीसिया के अगुवों के द्वारा पौलुस को कोई भी नई बात सीखने को नहीं मिली; उसके सुसमाचार प्रचार और सेवकाई में कोई त्रुटि नहीं थी। लेकिन फिर भी प्रभु उसे यरूशलेम लेकर आया था, उसे अपनी सेवकाई को उन अगुवों के सामने रखने के लिए कहा था। लेकिन 9 पद में हम उसके आने से हुए लाभ को देखते हैं - जब यरूशलेम के अगुवों ने उसकी सेवकाई के बारे में जान और समझ लिया, तो उसे अपने साथ सम्मिलित भी कर लिया, प्रोत्साहित भी किया और अपना सहकर्मी भी स्वीकार कर लिया; और 10 पद में सेवकाई में ध्यान रखने वाली मूल बातों के विषय स्मरण करवाया। पौलुस का यरूशलेम आना हमारी शिक्षा के लिए भी था - कि हम उसके जीवन और व्यवहार से सेवकाई और सुसमाचार के प्रभावों को सीख सकें। सही सुसमाचार के पालन का छठवाँ प्रभाव है वह अन्य स्थानों तथा लोगों के मध्य सही सुसमाचार की सेवकाई में लगे लोगों के प्रति भी सहभागिता और सहायता के लिए प्रोत्साहित करता है, उन्हें भी सेवकाई के लिए मार्गदर्शन करता है। 

7. गलातीयों 2:11-14 - पौलुस के यरूशलेम से वापस अन्‍ताकिया लौट जाने के कुछ समय बाद, अब पतरस उसके पास अन्‍ताकिया गया। किन्तु वहाँ पर पतरस के व्यवहार को लेकर एक परिस्थिति उत्पन्न हो गई और पतरस दोगलेपन में गिर गया। यह आज हमको सचेत करता है कि प्रभु के बड़े से बड़े सेवक भी गलती में पड़ सकते हैं, मनुष्यों को दिखाने के लिए अपना व्यवहार बदल सकते हैं, जो औरों के लिए ठोकर का कारण भी बन सकता है। इसलिए व्यक्ति की शारीरिक और आत्मिक “आयु” के अनुसार या कलीसिया में उसके ओहदे के अनुसार नहीं, वरन उसके व्यवहार के अनुसार, हर बात के लिए आँकलन करते रहना चाहिए। लेकिन पौलुस ने पतरस को इस दोगलेपन में बने नहीं रहने दिया, वरन तुरंत ही, सबके सामने उसका सामना किया, और उसे सुधारा। पतरस ने भी, उपरोक्त चौथे प्रभाव के अनुरूप, इस बात का बुरा नहीं माना, इससे अपने अहं पर ठेस नहीं आने दी, और आगे चलकर अपनी पत्री में पौलुस को अपना “प्रिय भाई” कहा और उसके दर्शन एवं सेवकाई के लिए उसकी प्रशंसा की (2 पतरस 3:15-16)। सही सुसमाचार के पालन ने पतरस को भी विनम्र और सुधार के लिए तत्पर बना दिया था। किन्तु पौलुस की प्रतिक्रिया पतरस के विनम्र होने पर आधारित नहीं थी; पौलुस की बात के लिए पतरस उसे जो भी प्रतिक्रिया देता, पौलुस उसे सुनने और सहने के लिए तैयार था; किन्तु मण्डली में किसी गलत व्यवहार और उदाहरण को सहन करने के लिए तैयार नहीं था। सही सुसमाचार का सातवाँ प्रभाव है कि वह व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन में होने वाली गलतियों को पहचानने और उन्हें सुधारने के लिए औरों का सामना करने की हिम्मत और सामर्थ्य देता है; उनके ओहदे या स्तर के भय कारण गलतियों के प्रति आँख मूँद लेने, और प्रभु के जन को उन में बने ही रहने देने वाला नहीं होने देता है। 

सही और असली सुसमाचार से संबंधित इन लेखों का सारांश यही है कि सही और सच्चा सुसमाचार परमेश्वर की ओर से, उसके अनुग्रह, उसकी शांति, और उसकी समझ और बुद्धि और ज्ञान और सामर्थ्य के साथ आता है। सही सुसमाचार पूर्णतः प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा समस्त मानव जाति को उनके किन्हीं कर्मों के द्वारा नहीं परंतु अपनी क्षमा और अनुग्रह के द्वारा पापों से छुटकारा देने के लिए कलवरी के क्रूस पर दिए गए बलिदान के बारे में है; इसमें किसी भी मनुष्य के कैसे भी कोई भी योगदान या काम का कोई भी स्थान नहीं है - लेश-मात्र भी नहीं। सही सुसमाचार का निर्वाह संसार की बुराइयों से छुड़ाता है, मसीही विश्वासियों में प्रेम, एक-मनता, सहभागिता, संगति, एक-दूसरे को उभारने, उठाने और सुधारने को प्रोत्साहित करता है; विभाजन और अलगाव नहीं मेल-मिलाप लाता है। सही सुसमाचार के प्रचार और निर्वाह के द्वारा प्रभु परमेश्वर की महिमा होती है, किसी मनुष्य अथवा संस्था की नहीं। जिस भी सुसमाचार में, सुसमाचार की सेवकाई और प्रचार में, ये स्वभाव और प्रभाव नहीं हैं, वह “कोई अन्य ही सुसमाचार” है, गलत और झूठा है, उसका तिरस्कार करके सही को अपनाना अनिवार्य है।

अभी तक हम इफिसियों 4:14 के अनुसार प्रभु की कलीसिया और उसके अपरिपक्व अनुयायियों के शैतान के द्वारा प्रभु यीशु मसीह, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, और सुसमाचार से संबंधित फैलाई और सिखाई जाने वाली गलत शिक्षाओं और उन शिक्षाओं के कारण प्रभु के लोगों के “मनुष्यों की ठग-विद्या और चतुराई से उन के भ्रम की युक्तियों की, और उपदेश की, हर एक बयार से उछाले, और इधर-उधर घुमाए” जाने, तथा उन्हें पहचानने और उससे बचने के वचन में दिए गए उपायों के बारे में देखते आ रहे थे। अगले लेख से हम इन बातों का सारांश और फिर उसके बाद इफिसियों 4:15-16 से कलीसिया और मसीही विश्वासी के परिपक्व होने, उस परिपक्वता में बढ़ने के बारे में देखेंगे।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो आपके लिए यह जानना और समझना अति-आवश्यक है कि आप प्रभु परमेश्वर के सुसमाचार से संबंधित किसी गलत शिक्षाओं धारणाओं में न पड़े हों। सच्चे सुसमाचार के स्वभाव के अनुसार अपने आप को जाँचने के द्वारा यह सुनिश्चित कर लीजिए कि आपने सच्चे सुसमाचार पर सच्चा विश्वास किया है, और आप सच्चे पश्चाताप और समर्पण तथा सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु से पापों की क्षमा के द्वारा परमेश्वर के जन बने हैं। न खुद भरमाए जाएं, और न ही आपके द्वारा कोई और भरमाया जाए। लोगों द्वारा कही जाने वाली ही नहीं, वरन वचन में लिखी हुई बातों पर ध्यान दें, और लोगों की बातों को वचन की बातों से मिला कर जाँचें और परखें, यदि सही हों, तब ही उन्हें मानें, अन्यथा अस्वीकार कर दें।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

The 7 Effects of the True Gospel (2)

In the previous articles we had seen from Galatians 1:1-7 the nature or characteristics of the true Gospel, to enable discerning between the true and the false Gospel. In the last article we began to see the 7 effects that come about in a person’s life, when he accepts and starts living by the true Gospel. The first two of these seven effects are given in Galatian chapter 1, which we have already seen, and the remaining five effects are in chapter 2, which we will see today.

The 7 Effects of the True Gospel (Contd.):

We saw in the last article that the first effect of the true Gospel is that it encourages the Believers to live and walk in the fear and obedience of God, and not of man; and to please God in all things; releasing men from the tendency of being ‘man-pleasers’ and of living under the control of men. The second effect of the true Gospel that we saw was that it promotes love, reconciliation, fellowship, tolerance, and praising God for each other, etc., instead of divisions, discord, separation, opposition, and creating feelings of superiority or inferiority. 

The remaining five effects, given in Galatians chapter 2, we will see today:

3. Galatians 2:1-2 - The Third effect of the true Gospel we see in the example of the ministry of Paul. Paul had been appointed for preaching the Gospel amongst the gentiles (Acts 9:15). After laboring for fourteen years amongst the gentiles, God asked him to go to Jerusalem, and so he came to Jerusalem along with Barnabas and Titus. The third effect that we see here is that living and serving by the true Gospel provides help and guidance from God, and encourages the person to fulfill his ministry by involving the other Believers, giving them the honor and opportunity for ministry as well.

4. The Fourth effect is also seen in Galatians 2:1-2; here verse 2 says that Paul went to Jerusalem by revelation from God, to share with them about his preaching and ministry - not to teach or impress them, but to be evaluated by the elders in Jerusalem, lest his labor be in vain (see the last part of verse 2). The Fourth effect of the Gospel is that the follower of the true Gospel is humble and submissive, willing to be evaluated and corrected by the other seniors engaged in the same ministry; he does not harbor any pride or sense of superiority or perfection about what he is doing.

5. Galatians 2:3-5 - The Believers who live by the true Gospel have the courage and ability to recognize and confront the “false brethren” who have sneaked into the Church or Assembly, not bow down to them, nor be tolerant or subservient to them. The Fifth effect of the true Gospel is that it provides the ability, wisdom, and strength to firmly stand up and speak against the wrong and oppose it, while resolutely following the right, even in a different locality.

6. Galatians 2:6-10 - From this passage we see from verse 6 that Paul did not learn anything new from the elders of the Church in Jerusalem; nor could they point out any error or short-coming in his preaching and ministry. But the Lord had brought him to Jerusalem, and had asked him to place his ministry before the elders. His coming to Jerusalem was not in vain; in verse 9 we see a benefit of his coming to Jerusalem - when the elders in Jerusalem came to know about him and his ministry, they also included him in their ranks, “giving him the right hand of fellowship”, and encouraged him. Then in verse 10 they emphasized upon the main things to be kept in mind during ministry. Paul’s coming to Jerusalem was for our learning as well, so that we can learn from his life, ministry, and behaviour the effects of the true Gospel. The Sixth effect of following the true Gospel is that it encourages the Church of a locality to join into their fellowship the ministers of the true Gospel serving in other places and guide them in their ministry.

7. Galatians 2:11-14 - Sometime after Paul had returned from Jerusalem to Antioch, now, Peter came to meet him. But because of Peter’s changing to a hypocritical behavior, an untoward situation arose. This serves as a point of caution for us, that even a very senior and mature elder can slip up, fall into hypocrisy, change their behavior, and become a stumbling block for other Believers. Therefore, one should not go only by the physical or spiritual age, nor by the seniority or status of a person in the Church. But we should always assess everything of the person’s teachings and behavior through God’s Word, before accepting what he says. But Paul did not let Peter remain in the hypocrisy; he openly confronted and corrected him. Peter too did not feel bad about it, did not let it hurt his ego, and later, called Paul his “Dear Brother” and praised Paul for his spiritual insights and ministry (2 Peter 3:15-16). Believing in and following the true Gospel made Peter too, as mentioned in the Fourth effect, to be humble and open to corrections. But Paul’s reaction was not dependent upon Peter’s being humble; no matter how Peter may have reacted to what Paul said, Paul was ready and willing to put up with it and bear it; but Paul was not ready to put up with any wrong behavior and example in the Church or Assembly. The Seventh effect of the true Gospel is that it gives the courage and strength to not only discern the wrongs and errors in practical Christian life but to speak up and correct them too; irrespective of the stature or position of the one committing that error, does not let a Believer continue in his wrong.

In short, what we can conclude from these articles about the true and correct gospel is that the true Gospel comes from God along with God’s grace, peace, understanding, wisdom, and knowledge. The true Gospel is about the forgiveness of sins and salvation made freely available to the all of mankind by the Lord Jesus Christ through His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary, not through any kinds of works done by any man; no man has any role or contribution in this salvation - none at all. The acceptance and following of the true Gospel delivers from the evils of the world, and promotes mutual love, unity, fellowship, cooperation, lifting each other up, encouraging, and correcting one-another, etc. amongst the Christian Believers. The preaching and living by the true Gospel glorifies the Lord Jesus, not any person or organization. If these characteristics and effects are not present in any gospel being preached in the name of the Lord, it is false, wrong, and “another gospel” that is not to be accepted and believed, but necessarily has to be rejected out rightly.

So far, we have been considering on the basis of Ephesians 4:14 about the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and how Satan beguiles and misleads the immature and child-like Christian Believers through teachings about the Lord Jesus, about the Holy Spirit, and about the Gospel, so that they are “...tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.” In the next article we will see the summary of what we have seen so far, and then we will see from Ephesians 4:15-16 about the Christian Believers and the Church becoming mature, and growing in that maturity.

If you are a Christian Believer, then it is very essential for you to know and learn that you do not get beguiled and misled into wrong teachings and doctrines about the Holy Spirit; neither should you get deceived, nor should anyone else be deceived through you. Take note of the things written in God’s Word, not on things spoken by the people; always cross-check and verify all messages and teachings from the Word of God. If you have already been entangled in wrong teachings, then by cross-checking and verifying them from the Word of God, hold to only that which is the truth, follow it, and reject the rest.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

इब्रानियों 6:1-2 में दी गई आरम्भिक बातों में से छठी बात, “अन्तिम न्याय” के हमारे इस अध्ययन में, पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि प्रथम पाप के साथ तीन और बातें मानवजाति में आ गईं – पहली, मृत्यु, दोनों आत्मिक तथा शारीरिक; दूसरी, मनुष्य के लिए जीवन भर दुःख और परेशानी उठाना और परिश्रम करना; और तीसरी, उनके लिए जो परमेश्वर की ओर मुड़ने और उसे जीवन समर्पित करने का निर्णय लेते हैं, परमेश्वर के साथ उनके बहाल किए जाने और अनन्तकालीन प्रतिफल प्राप्त करने की प्रतिज्ञा। पाप के इन तीनों प्रभावों के विभिन्न पक्षों के बारे में, और प्रभु यीशु मसीह की मृत्यु और पुनरुत्थान का इन तीनों बातों पर प्रभाव देख लेने के बाद, आज, इस विषय के हमारे अन्तिम लेख में, हमने इन बातों के बारे में जो सीखा है, उसे परमेश्वर के वचन के एक प्रमुख पात्र, राजा दाऊद, के जीवन से चित्रित होते हुए देखेंगे।

पहला, पाप मृत्यु लाता है। हम इस पद से देखते हैं कि दाऊद के द्वारा किए गए पाप के कारण, उसकी पिछली सारी धार्मिकता के बावजूद, अब वह परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में मृत्यु-दण्ड का भागी था। लेकिन क्योंकि उसने चिताए जाने पर अपने पाप को मान लिया, अपने आप को सही ठहराने का प्रयास नहीं किया, और न ही बात को हल्के में लिया, बल्कि पश्चाताप किया, इसीलिए, परमेश्वर ने उसे क्षमा कर दिया, और उस पर से मृत्यु-दण्ड को हटा दिया, जैसा कि नीतिवचन 28:13 में भी लिखा है “जो अपने अपराध छिपा रखता है, उसका कार्य सफल नहीं होता, परन्तु जो उन को मान लेता और छोड़ भी देता है, उस पर दया की जायेगी।” लेकिन परमेश्वर से मिली क्षमा के कारण पाप का दूसरा प्रभाव उसके जीवन से नहीं हटा|

दूसरा, पाप के कारण दुःख, परेशानी और कड़ा परिश्रम आता है। नातान दाऊद को बताता है कि वह नहीं मरेगा, लेकिन उसे पाप के परिणाम उठाने पड़ेंगे (2 शमूएल 12:9-14)। ध्यान कीजिए कि नातान की कहानी सुनने के बाद दाऊद ने कहा था कि अन्याय के दोषी को अपने किए का चार गुणा भरना होगा। परमेश्वर द्वारा दाऊद के पापों को क्षमा करने से पाप के कारण आने वाले दुःख नहीं मिटे। दाऊद को अपने कहे के अनुसार, चार-गुणा भरना पड़ा, अर्थात उसके द्वारा किए गए पाप के चारों पक्षों के परिणामों को झेलना पड़ा। दाऊद के द्वारा चार-गुणा भरा जाना, संक्षेप में, इस प्रकार से था:

1. मृत्यु - दाऊद ने ऊरिय्याह को मरवाया था; अब बतशेबा से उत्पन्न हुआ उसका पुत्र, दाऊद के परमेश्वर के आगे गिड़गिड़ाने के बावजूद, मर गया। फिर, उसके पुत्रों ने एक-दूसरे को मार डाला - अबसलोम ने बलात्कार करने वाले अपने भाई अमनोन को मार डाला। दाऊद ने अपनी सेना के अधिकारी को युद्ध में मरवाया था, उसकी सेना के सेनापति ने उसके पुत्र अबसलोम को युद्ध में मार डाला, यद्यपि दाऊद ने आज्ञा दी थी कि युद्ध में अबसलोम को मारना नहीं है।

3. परिवार में विद्रोह - दाऊद ने परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था और नैतिकता के विरुद्ध बलवा किया। उसके पुत्र, अबसलोम ने अपने पिता के विरुद्ध विदोह किया, उसका विरोधी होकर पिता को मार डालना चाहा, और दाऊद को अपने ही राज्य में भगोड़ा बना दिया। दाऊद के सेनापति, योआब ने दाऊद की आज्ञा के प्रति बलवा किया और अबसलोम को मार डाला।

4. परिवार में धोखा और पारिवारिक सम्बन्धों का टूटना - दाऊद ने अपने वफादार और प्रतिबद्ध सेना अधिकारी, ऊरिय्याह के साथ धोखा किया, और उसे युद्ध में मरवा डाला। दाऊद के पुत्र अमनोन ने अपनी बहन से धोखा किया और उसके साथ बलात्कार किया; फिर अबसलोम ने अमनोन के साथ धोखा करके उसे मार डाला; अबसलोम ने अपने पिता के साथ धोखा किया, पहले स्वयं को परदेश से वापस बुलवा लिया, और फिर दाऊद का तख्ता पलटने तथा उसे मर डालने का षड्यन्त्र रचा। 

अपने स्वार्थ और थोड़े से मज़े के लिए, दाऊद ने एक छोटे से परिवार को छिन्न-भिन्न कर दिया; अब परिणामस्वरूप उसका बहुत बड़ा परिवार छिन्न-भिन्न हो गया, टूट गया। दाऊद ने एक व्यभिचार को छुपाने का प्रयास किया; लेकिन परमेश्वर ने उसके सारे दुष्कर्मों को न केवल प्रकट कर दिया, बल्कि अनन्तकाल के लिए उन्हें अपने वचन में लिखवा दिया कि सभी पढ़ें और जानें।

तीसरा, बहाली और प्रतिफलों की प्रतिज्ञा भी है - जो वापस मुड़ कर परमेश्वर की ओर लौट आते हैं, अपने आप को उसे समर्पित कर देते हैं, परमेश्वर ने उनके लिए बड़े प्रतिफल तैयार कर रखे हैं। दाऊद को नए नियम में परमेश्वर के मन के अनुसार व्यक्ति कहा गया है (प्रेरितों 13:22); उसका पाप क्षमा करके भुला दिया गया - अर्थात जिस मृत्यु-दण्ड के वह योग्य था, उसके लिए उसे फिर कभी याद नहीं किया गया। पृथ्वी पर रहते हुए भी दाऊद आशीषित हुआ, हम देखते हैं कि उसका राज्य उसे लौटा दिया गया, वह जगत के उद्धारकर्ता, प्रभु यीशु का पूर्वज बना, और उसके लिखे हुए भजन, अनन्तकाल के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन का भाग हैं, हम से बात करते हैं, हमें सिखाते हैं, हमें परमेश्वर के बारे में, मनुष्य चाहे दुर्बल हो और पाप भी करे तब भी, मनुष्य के प्रति परमेश्वर के प्रेम के बारे में, और मनुष्य के प्रति उसकी देखभाल के बारे में सिखाते हैं। दाऊद का जीवन हमें दिखाता है कि पाप हमारे जीवनों में क्या करता है, और पापों से पश्चाताप किस प्रकार से परमेश्वर से सम्बन्धों को बहाल कर देता है और परमेश्वर से आशीषों को लेकर आता है, इस पृथ्वी पर भी और स्वर्ग में भी।

लेकिन एक बार फिर, हमें इस बात का एहसास करने और उसे स्वीकार करने की आवश्यकता है कि हम परमेश्वर के वचन की शिक्षाओं को समझें, उनका पालन करें, और उन्हें जी कर के दिखाएँ। पाप के परिणाम बहुत बुरे होते हैं; और परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने अनुग्रह में होकर मृत्यु को हटा लेने का अर्थ पाप के कारण मिलने वाले दुःखों, परेशानियों, और कड़े परिश्रम को हटा लेना नहीं है; और न ही उस से परमेश्वर के लोगों, अर्थात, जो उसकी ओर फिर जाते हैं और उसे समर्पित हो जाते हैं, उन्हें प्रतिफल देने के लिए किए जाने वाले उनके न्याय और आँकलन को हटा देना है। दाऊद के क्षमा और बहाल किए जाने के द्वारा, परमेश्वर के वचन में से उसके पापों का लेख मिटा नहीं दिया गया। वरन, दाऊद के जीवन को, उसकी धार्मिकता, भलाइयों और बुराइयों सहित, सबके सामने प्रकट किया गया है। न केवल दाऊद का, वरन परमेश्वर के प्रत्येक जन का जीवन बाइबल में खोल कर रखा गया है; तो फिर हमारा जीवन क्यों नहीं खोला और प्रकट किया जाएगा? जैसे उनका किया गया है, उसी प्रकार से सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के जीवन का लेखा-जोखा भी स्वर्ग में रखी हुई परमेश्वर की पुस्तकों में से प्रकट किया जाएगा, और उनके उसी लेखे-जोखे के अनुसार किए गए न्याय और आँकलन के आधार पर उन्हें उनके प्रतिफल और परिणाम दिए जाएँगे।

आज के इस लेख के साथ, परमेश्वर के वचन से बढ़ोतरी के लिए दूसरी श्रेणी, अर्थात आरम्भिक बातों से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं को देख लेने के बाद, अगले लेख से हम तीसरी श्रेणी, अर्थात, मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित शिक्षाओं पर विचार करना आरम्भ करेंगे।   

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

God’s Forgiveness and Justice – 23

Lord’s Death and its Implications - 5

   

In this study on “Eternal Judgement,” the sixth elementary principle given in Hebrews 6:1-2, in the previous articles we have seen that along with the first sin, came three things – first, death, spiritual as well as physical; second, life-long suffering, problems, and toil for mankind; and third, a promise of restoration and eternal rewards for those who turn back to God and submit themselves to Him. Having considered various aspects of these three effects of sin, and the implications of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus in relation to these three effects, today, in this concluding article on this topic, we will see what we have learnt about these three effects, illustrated through the life of a prominent character in God’s Word, King David.

It is written in God’s Word the Bible about David that “David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite” (1 Kings 15:5). This one matter, of Uriah and his Bathsheba, is recorded in 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12; and this one sin wreaked havoc in David’s life, disrupted his family, and tainted his testimony forever. To summarize chapters 11 and 12, David, instead of going out with his army to battle, had stayed behind, and one evening while walking on the roof, he happened to see a woman bathing; she was the wife of Uriah the Hittite, one of his faithful and committed officers in his army, who at that time was fighting battles for David. David sent for her, had an adulterous relationship with her, and when she became pregnant, David first tried a cover-up; and when that failed, to avoid embarrassment, plotted and had Uriah killed in the battle; and then took Bathsheba as his wife. But all of this greatly displeased God, and God sent His prophet Nathan, to reprimand David for what he had done, and make him aware of the consequences. Nathan through a story brought before David the injustice he had done, but David, not realizing the story was about him, as King, ruled that the one who had done this, will have to make a four-fold restitution for his injustice (2 Samuel 12:6); and then Nathan told him that this story was about him, and he is the guilty person of the story (2 Samuel 12:7). David accepted his being guilty, was penitent, and Nathan pronounced God’s verdict on David for what he did (2 Samuel 12:9-14) Here, pay particular attention to 2 Samuel 12:13 “So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.” Let us see how the three effects of sin connect to this incidence.

Firstly, sin brings death. We see from this verse that because of the sin David had committed, despite his past righteousness, now, in God’s eyes, he was worthy of death. But because he admitted his sin, did not try to justify himself, or take it casually, but repented of it. Therefore, God forgave him, and took away the death penalty, as it says in Proverbs 28:13 “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” But God’ forgiveness, did not take away the second effect of sin for David.

Secondly, Nathan tells him that though he will not die, but he will still have to suffer the consequences of his sin. Recall that David, in response to Nathan’s story, had said that the one guilty of injustice will have to pay four-fold for what he did. God’s forgiveness of sin did not mean the cancellation of the sufferings that sin brings. David too had to pay four-fold, i.e., for each kind of offense he committed. David’s four-fold payment was:

1.   Death – David had Uriah killed; now, his son from Bathsheba, the result of his adultery, despite David’s pleadings to God died. Then, his children killed one-another - Absalom killed the rapist brother Amnon. David had his army officer, Uraih, killed; David’s General of the army Joab, killed his son Absalom despite David’s instructions to not kill Absalom in the battle.

2.   Adultery in the family – David committed adultery with Bathsheba. Amongst his children Amnon raped his sister Tamar; and another son, Absalom raped David's concubines on the rooftop, after ousting David from the palace.

3.   Rebellion within family – David rebelled against God's laws and morality. Absalom rebelled and turned against his father, wanting to kill him, and usurp the kingdom, and made David a fugitive in his own kingdom. Joab rebelled against David's instructions and killed Absalom.

4.   Treachery causing broken family relationships – David committed treachery against his faithful and committed army officer, Uriah, and had him killed in battle. Amnon committed treachery against his sister, Tamar, and raped her; Absalom committed treachery against Amnon, and killed him; Absalom committed treachery against his father David, in having himself brought back from exile, and then plotted to overthrow and kill David.

Out of selfishness, for a pleasure, David had disrupted a small family; now his own large family lay disrupted and broken. David wanted to hide one adulterous relationship; but God exposed all his sordid deeds, and had them recorded in His Word for all to know and see till eternity

Thirdly, those who turn back to God, and submit to Him, God has great rewards for them. In the New Testament, David is called the man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22); his sin was forgiven, and forgotten – was no longer remembered for the punishment it deserved, i.e., death. David was blessed even while on earth, for we see that his kingdom was restored to him, he was made the forefather of the Lord Jesus, the savior of the world, and his Psalms, for eternity, are a part of God’s Word, to speak to us, teach us, and tell us about God and God’s care for man, despite their sins and weaknesses. David’s life shows us what sin does, and how repentance from sin restores the relationship with God and brings blessings from God, on earth as well as in heaven.

But we once again need to realize, accept, and live out the clear teaching of God’s Word. Sin has severe consequences; and the taking away of death by the grace of God does not mean taking away the pain and suffering because of sin, nor does it take away the judgment for eternal rewards for God’s people, i.e., those who turn to Him and submit to Him. David’s restoration by God did not wipe away the account of his sin from God’s Word. It is still there in God’s Word, to teach us. Similarly, though the Believers have been forgiven and restored to fellowship with God through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus, but the records of our lives are there with God; and our rewards will be according to God’s evaluation and judgment, based on the records He has in heaven about us.

Having concluded the teachings about the second category of teachings i.e., the Elementary Principle with this article, from the next article we will begin looking at the third category of teachings about Growing through God’s Word, i.e., about teachings regarding Christian Living.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
