इससे पिछले लेखों में हमने किसी व्यक्ति के परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने और उद्धार प्राप्त करने के सन्दर्भ में, परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में भला होने के बारे में देखा था। हमने देखा था कि यद्यपि पृथ्वी के जीवन के लिये मनुष्यों ने भला होने के अपने मानक और गुण निर्धारित कर रखे हैं, किन्तु किसी भी मनुष्य को परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में भला होने, उसे स्वीकार्य होने, और स्वर्ग में उसके साथ निवास करने के लिये, पृथ्वी पर मनुष्यों द्वारा निर्धारित किये गये मानकों का नहीं, बल्कि उसके लिये परमेश्वर द्वारा दिये और स्थापित किये गये मानकों का निर्वाह करना होगा। और मसीही विश्वास के अन्तर्गत ये मानक परमेश्वर ने अपने वचन बाइबल में हमें प्रदान किये हैं; परमेश्वर से मेल-मिलाप, उद्धार, और परमेश्वर के साथ स्वर्गीय जीवन किसी प्रकार के कर्मों या भले होने से नहीं, वरन पापों से पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करने से है। इस सन्दर्भ में फिर हमने पुराने नियम में मूसा में होकर परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गयी व्यवस्था तथा नए नियम में प्रभु यीशु में लाए गये विश्वास के द्वारा उद्धार के बारे में देखना आरम्भ किया था। हमने देखा था कि लोगों में प्रचलित सामान्य मान्यता एवं धारणा के विपरीत, पुराने नियम में दिए गए भेंट, बलिदानों, पर्वों, विधियों, नियमों आदि का निर्वाह व्यवस्था का निर्वाह करना नहीं है; वरन ये सभी प्रभु यीशु मसीह के जीवन, कार्य और बलिदान के पुराने नियम में दिए गए विभिन्न प्रतीक एवं प्ररूप हैं; और इनका निर्वाह करने से किसी का उद्धार नहीं होता है (इब्रानियों 10:1-4)। फिर हमने प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था वास्तव में क्या है, को समझाने के लिए कही गयी बात को मत्ती 22:35-40 से देखा था, जिसे फिर रोमियों 13:9 में दोहराया गया है।

यहाँ हम इस बहुत महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य को देखते हैं कि प्रभु यीशु, अर्थात, उस जीवते वचन के द्वारा जो देहधारी हुआ और जिसने हमारे बीच में निवास किया (यूहन्ना 1:1, 14), स्वयं हमारे लिए परिभाषित किया है कि परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था कोई रीति-रिवाज़, धर्म, पर्वों और परंपराओं, और अनुष्ठानों आदि का पालन करना नहीं है। वरन, परमेश्वर की व्यवस्था वह है जो खरे प्रेम में होकर परमेश्वर के प्रति हमारे संपूर्ण समर्पण, आज्ञाकारिता, और परमेश्वर के साथ हमारे संबंध, समर्पण, और व्यवहार को, तथा सभी मनुष्यों के प्रति भी हमारे द्वारा खरा प्रेम रखने को स्थापित करती है।

मनुष्य के परमेश्वर के साथ तथा अन्य मनुष्यों के साथ व्यवहार और निर्वाह करने वाले परमेश्वर के इन नियमों तथा इनसे संबंधित उसकी बातों का एक थोड़ा सा विस्तृत रूप, निर्गमन 20:1-17 में दी गई दस आज्ञाएँ हैं। बहुत ही संक्षेप में, इन दस आज्ञाओं में से पहली चार (20:1-11) परमेश्वर के साथ मनुष्य के संबंध और व्यवहार के बारे में हैं; और शेष छः (20:12-17) मनुष्यों के मनुष्य के साथ संबंध और व्यवहार के बारे में हैं। यहाँ दी गई ये दस आज्ञाएँ, एक तरह से किसी पुस्तक के अध्यायों के शीर्षकों के समान हैं; शीर्षक केवल अध्याय में क्या है उसका संकेत करता है; और वर्णन उस अध्याय के लेख में मिलता है। इसी प्रकार से ये आज्ञाएँ दस भिन्न अध्यायों को दिखाती हैं, और उन अध्यायों के शीर्षकों से संबंधित शेष वर्णन परमेश्वर के वचन के अन्य स्थानों पर इन दोनों संबंधों और व्यवहार की बातों में होकर प्रदान किया गया है।

इसीलिए जब भी इस्राएली उस वास्तविक व्यवस्था के पालन से भटक कर केवल रीति-रिवाजों, पर्वों, त्यौहारों, विधियों को मानने तथा औरों को मनवाने तक सीमित हो गए, तब साथ ही वे नैतिक और धार्मिक पतन में चले गए, परमेश्वर के प्रकोप के भागी हो गए (यशायाह 1:11-20; मलाकी 1:10), और बिलकुल यही मानसिकता तथा परमेश्वर के साथ संबंधों की दशा वर्तमान के ईसाई या मसीही समाज के साथ भी है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह के पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के दिनों में भी परमेश्वर का मंदिर था। वहाँ सारे पर्व और विधियाँ माने और मनाए जाते थे, वचन के अनुसार भेंट और बलिदान चढ़ाए जाते थे, वचन पढ़ा, सुना और सिखाया जाता था; किन्तु सब ऊपरी था। लोगों के, यहाँ तक कि उनके धर्म-गुरुओं के भी मन परमेश्वर से दूर थे (मत्ती 15:8); और प्रभु ने अपने मंदिर को डाकुओं की खोह कहा (मत्ती 21:13)! 

धर्म के अगुवों ने ही मंदिर, आराधना, और व्यवस्था के पालन की वास्तविकता को भ्रष्ट कर दिया था, उसे एक औपचारिकता, परंपरा का निर्वाह मात्र बना दिया था। वे परमेश्वर के वचन और नियमों के स्थान पर अपने ही बनाए हुए नियमों को परमेश्वर के नियम और विधियाँ कह कर सिखाया करते थे (मत्ती 15:3-9; यशायाह 29:3; साथ ही यशायाह 1:1-17 भी देखें)। और परमेश्वर के उसी मंदिर के अंदर, धर्म के अगुवों ने प्रभु परमेश्वर यीशु मसीह को पकड़वाने और मार डालने का षड्यंत्र रचा, और कार्यान्वित करवाया। क्या आज यही दशा ईसाई या मसीही समाज की भी नहीं है; जहाँ हर डिनॉमिनेशन, मत, और समुदाय के, परमेश्वर के वचन से अतिरिक्त, अपने ही बनाए हुए नियम और विधियाँ हैं। ये सभी डिनॉमिनेशन, मत, और समुदाय परमेश्वर के वचन के पालन से अधिक महत्व अपनी ही बनाए हुए नियमों और विधियों, अपनी ही बातों के पालन को महत्व देते हैं, और केवल अपनी ही बातों को सही, तथा अन्य को गलत बताते और सिखाते हैं। तथा सभी के आराधना स्थलों पर, धार्मिक अगुवों के द्वारा ही औरों की आलोचना, औरों से पृथक होकर रहने, और यहाँ तक कि उनके विरोध की योजनाएं बनाई जाती हैं, कार्यान्वित करवाई जाती हैं। जबकि साथ ही वे परमेश्वर के सभी के लिए प्रेम और मसीह यीशु में होकर सभी के साथ भाई-चारे के सन्देश प्रचार करते हैं, जिनका पालन वे स्वयं भी नहीं करते हैं।

अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि व्यवस्था क्यों हमें उद्धार नहीं दे सकती है, उसकी क्या सीमाएं हैं; और फिर यह भी देखेंगे कि फिर भी व्यवस्था के पालन के द्वारा जीवन में प्रवेश करने की बात क्यों कही गई है। किन्तु अभी के लिए, आज जो भी अपने आप को अपने धर्म और डिनॉमिनेशन, उसके नियमों, परंपराओं, और विधियों का पालन करने वाले होने के कारण स्वयं को परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में भला और उसे स्वीकार्य समझते हैं, उन्हें सचेत होकर वास्तविकता को समझने और स्वीकार करने (1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21; 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:12; 2 कुरिन्थियों 13:5), और पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा पौलुस प्रेरित द्वारा लिखवाई गई बात, “इसलिये परमेश्वर अज्ञानता के समयों में आनाकानी कर के, अब हर जगह सब मनुष्यों को मन फिराने की आज्ञा देता है” (प्रेरितों 17:30) का पालन करने की आवश्यकता है - यह परमेश्वर का सुझाव या इच्छा मात्र नहीं, वरन उसकी आज्ञा है; और इस पद में लिखे “हर जगह सब मनुष्यों को” में सारे संसार के सभी ईसाई या मसीही समाज के सभी लोग भी ठीक वैसे ही आ जाते हैं जैसे अन्य किसी भी अन्य धर्म अथवा समाज के लोग।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Law – Part 1 - Biblically, What is the Law? – 2

In the preceding articles, in context of a person’s being acceptable to God, and receiving salvation, we had started to see about being good in the eyes of God. We had seen that although men have created and established their own standards and criteria for being good for their earthly lives, but for any person to be good in God’s eyes, be acceptable to Him, and be able to reside in heaven with Him, he will have to fulfill not the man-made standards and criteria of earth, but the God given and established standards and criteria. And in the Christian faith, God has given these standards and criteria in His Word the Bible; and being reconciled with God, salvation, and heavenly life with God is not through any kind of good works or being good, but by repenting of sins and accepting the Lord Jesus as one’s savior. Then, in this context, we had started to consider the Law given by God through Moses in the Old Testament, and the salvation that is received by coming to faith in the Lord Jesus. We had seen that quite unlike the commonly held belief and concept by the people, the fulfilling of the Law is not by the following and observances of the offerings, sacrifices, feasts, traditions and rituals, etc.; rather, all these are symbols and forms given in the Old Testament of the life, work, and sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ; and fulfilling them does not save anyone (Hebrews 10:1-4). Then we had seen from Matthew 22:35-40 what the Lord Jesus had said to explain about the Law actually is; and this has been reiterated in Romans 13:9 as well.

Here we see this very important fact that the Lord Jesus, i.e. The Living Word who became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1, 14), has Himself defined for us that the Law of God is not the observance of any customs, religion, festivals, traditions, and rituals etc. Rather, God's Law is that which, on the basis of having a sincere love for God and for all people, establishes our honest commitment and submission to God and His Word over and above all else, and a sincere relationship, dedication, and behavior with God and with man.

The Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:1–17 are a slightly expanded version of these laws that guide and direct our attitude and behavior towards God and other human beings, in the manner God wants it done. Very briefly, the first four of these Ten Commandments (20:1-11) are about man's relationship and behavior with God; And the remaining six (20:12-17) are about man's relationships and interactions with other people. The Ten Commandments here are, in a way, similar to the headings of the chapters of a book; The heading only refers to what is in the chapter; while the details are found in the text of that chapter. Similarly, these commandments refer to ten different chapters of our association and relationship with God and men, and the text or content of these chapters, i.e., these aspects of our relationships is provided in other places of God's Word.

That is why whenever the Israelites deviated from the observance of the actual spirit of the Law, and only formally fulfilled the customs, feasts, festivals, rituals, i.e., merely the text of the Law, they then fell into moral and religious decline, and ended up being subjects of the wrath of God (Isaiah 1:11-20; Malachi 1:10). Exactly the same mentality and state of relationship with God is also seen in the present-day Christians and Christian society. Even in the days of the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, there was the Temple of God, where all festivals and ceremonies were held and celebrated, offerings and sacrifices were made according to the Law, the God’s Word was read, heard and taught; but everything was ritualistic. The minds not only of the people, but even of their religious leaders, were far from God (Matthew 15:8); And the Lord called his temple a den of thieves (Matthew 21:13)!

 

The religious leaders had corrupted the stature of the temple, worship, and observance of the Law, making it a formality, a mere exercise of tradition. Instead of God's Word, they taught the people their own rules and regulations, their contrived words and laws (Matthew 15:3-9; Isaiah 29:3; see also Isaiah 1:1-17). And within the same Temple of God, religious leaders plotted and executed a conspiracy to betray and kill the Lord God Jesus Christ. Is not the same condition rampant today amongst Christians and in the Christian society also, where every denomination, creed, and community, has its own set of rules and regulations, all apart from the Word of God. All of these denominations, sects, and communities value the observance of the rules and regulations and rituals they have made, they value their own words more than the observance of the Word of God; and they also teach only their own words to be right, and of others to be wrong. And at these very places of worship, plans are made and implemented by the religious leaders to criticize others, stay segregated from others, and even oppose them. While preaching messages of God’s love for everyone and of universal brotherhood in Christ Jesus, which they themselves never put into practice.

In the next article we will see why the law cannot save us, what are its limitations; and then we will also see why it has been said that by following the Law one can enter life. But for now, those who today consider themselves to be good and acceptable in the eyes of God, by virtue of their being adherents and followers of the tenets of their religion and denomination, its rules, traditions, and ordinances, they must seriously introspect and consciously understand the reality (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 10:12; 2 Corinthians 13:5), and accept what the apostle Paul wrote by the Holy Spirit, "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). This is not merely a suggestion, or merely a thought expressed by God, but it is His command; and in “all men everywhere”, Christians i.e., all people of Christendom, world-wide, are also included in just the same way as people of any other religion or society.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पिछले लेख से हमने प्रभु द्वारा निर्धारित उसकी कलीसिया से जुड़ने की प्रक्रिया के सात कदमों में से दूसरे, बपतिस्मा, पर विचार करना आरम्भ किया था। पश्चाताप और बपतिस्मा प्रेरितों 2:38 में दिए गए दो कदम हैं, जिन्हें पतरस ने उन भक्त यहूदियों को बताया था, जिनके हृदय छिद गए थे और वे जानना चाहते थे कि अब आगे क्या करें।  बपतिस्मे से सम्बन्धित बाइबल के विभिन्न पदों के द्वारा, पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि बाइबल में जिस बपतिस्मे की माँग की गई है वह हमेशा ही वयस्कों का हुआ है, कभी भी किसी बच्चे अथवा शिशु का नहीं; हमेशा ही पानी अन्दर जाने और फिर बाहर आने के द्वारा, अर्थात, डुबकी का हुआ है; और हमेशा केवल उनका ही हुआ है जिन्होंने पहले प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार कर लिया और अपने जीवन उसे समर्पित कर दिए। आज हम बापतिसमे के इसी विषय से सम्बन्धित कुछ अन्य बातों को देखेंगे जिनको लेकर लोगों में अक्सर असमंजस रहता है। 

जो प्रभु के शिष्य बन गए, अर्थात जिन्होंने प्रभु यीशु को अपना उद्धारकर्ता स्वीकार कर लिया और अपना जीवन उन्हें समर्पित कर दिया, वे स्वतः ही, बपतिस्मा लेने से पहले ही प्रभु के अनुयायी, परमेश्वर की संतान (यूहन्ना 1:12-13), और जिस पल से वे प्रभु यीशु में विश्वासी हुए हैं उसी पल से स्वर्ग में जाने के अधिकारी हो गए। बाइबल की शिक्षाओं और उदाहरणों के अनुसार, बपतिस्मा न तो उद्धार प्रदान करता है, और न ही व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी अथवा स्वीकार्य बनाता है – बपतिस्मा केवल प्रभु यीशु में लाए गए विश्वास के द्वारा बदले हुए जीवन की सार्वजनिक रीति से गवाही देने का एक माध्यम है। ध्यान कीजिए, क्रूस पर टंगे हुए डाकू ने पापों की क्षमा पाई, और स्वर्ग चला गया – बिना बपतिस्मा लिए। ऐसे न जाने कितने लोग होंगे जिन्होंने वास्तव में प्रभु पर विश्वास किया, पापों से पश्चाताप किया, किन्तु किसी-न-किसी कारण वश, कोई बाधा अथवा विपरीत परिस्थिति के कारण बपतिस्मा नहीं लेने पाए – किसी दुर्घटना के बाद, किसी युद्ध भूमि में घायल होने के बाद अंतिम साँसें लेते हुए; रेगिस्तान अथवा बर्फीले इलाके में प्रभु को ग्रहण करने पर भी बपतिस्मे की सुविधा न होने के कारण; किसी सुदूर एकांत के इलाके में रेडियो पर सुसमाचार सुनकर विश्वास करने किन्तु किसी अन्य विश्वासी जन के उनके पास या साथ न होने के कारण – ऐसी कितनी ही परिस्थितियाँ हो सकती हैं, जिनके अंतर्गत बपतिस्मा लेना कई बार संभव नहीं होता है, और मनुष्य चाह कर भी बपतिस्मा नहीं लेने पाता है। क्या ऐसे लोग केवल इसलिए स्वर्ग में प्रवेश नहीं पाएँगे, क्योंकि सांसारिक परिस्थितियों के कारण वे चाहते हुए भी बपतिस्मा नहीं लेने पाए? यदि क्रूस पर लटका हुआ डाकू पश्चाताप करके, बिना बपतिस्मा लिए स्वर्ग जा सकता है, तो अन्य कोई क्यों नहीं?

साथ ही, ध्यान कीजिए, शमौन टोन्हा करने वाले के समान (प्रेरितों 8:9-13, 18-24), सभी कलीसियाओं में ऐसे अनगिनत लोग हैं जिन्होंने रस्म के समान बपतिस्मा तो लिया, किन्तु उन्होंने सच्चा पश्चाताप कभी नहीं किया। बपतिस्मा लेने से उनके जीवनों में कोई परिवर्तन नहीं आया, वे अभी भी अपने पापों और सांसारिकता के जीवन में बने हुए हैं। वे प्रभु भोज में भी भाग लेते हैं, कलीसिया के सदस्य भी हैं, त्यौहार और पर्व भी मनाते हैं, किन्तु पाप और समझौते तथा सांसारिकता का जीवन भी जीते हैं। उनके बपतिस्मे से उन्हें क्या लाभ हुआ? क्या परमेश्वर उनके बपतिस्मे से मजबूर हो गया कि उसे अब उन्हें स्वर्ग में प्रवेश देना ही पड़ेगा, यद्यपि उनके जीवन दिखा रहे हैं कि उन्होंने उद्धार नहीं पाया है?

एक अन्य व्यर्थ बहस करने की बात बपतिस्मा प्रभु यीशु मसीह के नाम से दिया गया, या “पिता, पुत्र और पवित्र आत्मा” के नाम से को लेकर उठाई जाती है। मत्ती 28:19 के अनुसार, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के ही शब्दों में बपतिस्मा “पिता, पुत्र, और पवित्र आत्मा” के नाम से दिया जाना है – ये तीनों ही त्रिएक परमेश्वर के स्वरूप हैं और पूर्णतः एक समान हैं, कोई भी दूसरे से न तो भिन्न है और न किसी रीति से कम है। यही “त्रिएक परमेश्वर” जब इस धरती पर अवतरित होकर सदेह आया, तो परमेश्वर की आज्ञा के अनुसार उसका नाम “यीशु” रखा गया; अर्थात “यीशु” त्रिएक परमेश्वर ही का नाम है, जो उसके उद्धारकर्ता स्वरूप को दिखाता है (मत्ती 1:21)। इसलिए चाहे तीनों का नाम लो, या किसी एक का, अभिप्राय तो उसी एक परमेश्वर को आदर देने और उसकी आज्ञाकारिता को पूरा करना है। इसलिए कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता है कि केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह के नाम से बपतिस्मा दिया/लिया जाए, या तीनों, पिता, पुत्र और पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से कहकर दिया/लिया जाए, बात एक ही है; विशेषकर जब, जैसा हम ऊपर देख चुके हैं बपतिस्मा उद्धार मिलने के लिए अनिवार्य है ही नहीं। यह शिक्षा, कि केवल यीशु के नाम में दिया गया बपतिस्मा ही सही है अन्यथा नहीं, Jesus Only समुदाय के द्वारा फैलाई जाती रही है; और ये लोग त्रिएक परमेश्वर पर विश्वास नहीं रखते हैं। वे केवल यीशु ही को मानते हैं, इसलिए त्रिएक परमेश्वर के अस्तित्व और बातों पर जहाँ और जैसे संभव है, संदेह उत्पन्न करते हैं, और बाइबल के त्रिएक परमेश्वर के तथ्य के विरोध में धारणाएं उत्पन्न करते हैं। और उनके इसी प्रयास की एक कड़ी उनके द्वारा बपतिस्मे के बारे फैलाई जाने वाली यह गलत शिक्षा है।

परमेश्वर के नाम, तथा पानी के स्थान के साथ बपतिस्मे को जायज़-नाजायज़ दिखाना, शैतान के द्वारा लोगों को गलत शिक्षाओं और व्यर्थ के वाद-विवादों में फंसा कर, उनका ध्यान कर्मों की धार्मिकता की ओर लगाने का प्रयास है, जिससे वे परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह से मिलने वाली क्षमा और धार्मिकता की सादगी और आशीष से निकलकर व्यर्थ के अनुचित कर्मों में फँसे रहें, आपस में विवाद करते, लड़ते रहें, पापों से पश्चाताप के स्थान पर विधि-विधानों के निर्वाह के चक्करों में पड़कर प्रभु के मार्गों से भटक जाएँ। इन बातों को ध्यान में रखते हुए, यह प्रकट है कि महत्व प्रभु यीशु मसीह की आज्ञाकारिता में होकर बपतिस्मे को लेने का है, बपतिस्मे के समय किस या किन नामों का उच्चारण किया जाता है, उसे बहते पाने में दिया/लिया जाता है अथवा खड़े पानी में, इन बातों का नहीं। इसलिए बपतिस्मे को अनावश्यक रीति से ऐसा कोई महत्व नहीं देना चाहिए जो प्रभु ने उसके लिए नहीं कहा अथवा सिखाया है। बपतिस्मा लेना प्रभु की आज्ञा है, और आज्ञाकारिता में आशीष है। किन्तु बपतिस्मा न लेने से उद्धार नहीं चला जाता है; और बपतिस्मा ले लेने से उद्धार नहीं मिल जाता है।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो आपके लिए यह बिलकुल स्पष्ट समझना बहुत आवश्यक है कि प्रत्येक उद्धार पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, समय और अवसर के अनुसार, प्रभु की आज्ञा के अनुसार बपतिस्मा अवश्य ही लेना है – अनुग्रह से मिले उद्धार को स्थापित करने के लिए नहीं, वरन उस उद्धार की सार्वजनिक गवाही देने के लिए। यह बपतिस्मा व्यक्ति चाहे पिता, पुत्र और पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से ले अथवा दे, या यीशु के नाम से; बहते पाने में ले या खड़े पानी में – इससे उसके उद्धार की दशा और परमेश्वर के साथ बने संबंध पर कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ने वाला है। किन्तु जैसे पश्चाताप के लिए, वैसे ही बपतिस्मे के लिए भी है - यह कोई रस्म का निर्वाह करना, एक औपचारिकता पूरी करना नहीं है। इसका आपना महत्व और उद्देश्य है, और इसे केवल प्रभु द्वारा सिखाई गई सीमाओं के अंतर्गत ही देखना, समझना, और निभाना चाहिए; इससे अधिक कोई और शिक्षा को इसके साथ जोड़ने या महत्व देने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

यदि आपने अभी तक प्रभु की शिष्यता को स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। यदि आपने अभी तक नया जन्म, उद्धार नहीं पाया है, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा नहीं माँगी है, तो अभी आपके पास समय और अवसर है कि यह कर लें। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” परमेश्वर आपके साथ संगति रखने की बहुत लालसा रखता है तथा आपको आशीषित देखना चाहता है, लेकिन इसे सम्भव करना आपका व्यक्तिगत निर्णय है। सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी। क्या आप अभी समय और अवसर होते हुए, इस प्रार्थना को नहीं करेंगे? निर्णय आपका है।

Witnessing through Baptism -2

In the previous article we began to consider baptism, the second of the seven step process for joining the Lord’s Church through His ordained way. Repentance and baptism are two steps given in Acts 2:38, stated by Peter to those devout Jews who were convicted and wanted to know what to do to be saved. From the various references related to baptism, in the last article we have seen that the baptism asked for in the Bible has always been of adults, never of infants or children; always through entering and coming out of water, i.e., immersion or water baptism; and always of those who have first accepted the Lord as their savior, and have surrendered their lives to Him. Today we will consider some other matters related to baptism that often create confusion amongst people.

Now, those who have become the disciples of the Lord Jesus, i.e., those who have received the Lord Jesus as their personal savior and have surrendered their lives to Him, they have already become the children of God (John 1:12-13), and are destined to be in heaven from the moment they have come into faith in the Lord Jesus, even before their having taken baptism. Biblically speaking, baptism neither saves anybody, nor makes anyone righteous and acceptable in the eyes of God. Baptism is nothing more than a method of giving a public testimony of a person’s coming into faith in the Lord Jesus and the inner change that has come into him because of his faith in the Lord. Take note, the thief who repented while hanging on the cross, received forgiveness from the Lord and went to heaven - without being baptized. There will be countless people all over the world, who have accepted the Lord Jesus as savior, believed in Him, have repented of their sins, but due to some reason, due to some problem or impediment, could not be baptized despite being desirous of and willing for it, e.g., after being involved in an accident, or being wounded on a battlefield and taking their last breaths; or having accepted Jesus as Lord in some desert or snow-bound area where they could not be baptized; or having heard the gospel in some remote distant area through radio transmission, where there was no one to baptize them - there can be so many different situations and circumstances in which it may not be possible for a person to get baptized, although wanting to get it done. Will all such people be denied entry into heaven just because despite truly having repented of sins, having come into faith and having accepted the Lord Jesus as savior, due to some earthly situation or circumstance, they could not get baptized? If the thief on the cross could repent and go to heaven, without getting baptized, then why can’t anyone else?

Also take note that like Simon the sorcerer (Acts 8:9-13, 18-24), in every local Church there are numerous people who have taken baptism ritualistically, but have never ever truly repented of their sins. Their taking of baptism has not brought any change in their lives, they are still living in their sins, in worldliness. They partake of the Holy Communion, are members of their local Church, celebrate the traditions, feasts, and festivals, but also live a life of compromising with the world and in sin. Of what benefit is their baptism for them? Has their baptism put God under a compulsion to accept them into heaven, although their lives are demonstrating that they never came into faith in the Lord Jesus?

Another point of contention related to baptism is whether it has been administered “in the name of Jesus”, or, “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”! According to Matthew 28:19, in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, baptism was to be given “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” - all three of them are God, co-equal in every manner, none is less than or different than the other. This “Triune” God, when He was born on earth as a man, His incarnation was named “Jesus” by divine instructions (Matthew 1:21). In other words, “Jesus” is the name of the Triune God that depicts His being the Savior of the world. Therefore, whether one takes the name of all three, or of anyone, it is the same God who is being honored and obeyed. So then, what difference will it make if baptism is given “in the name of Jesus”, or, “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”; more so, when as we have seen above baptism has nothing to do with obtaining salvation? This wrong teaching has been spread by the “Jesus Only” group, because they do not believe in the Triune God. Since they Believe only in the Lord Jesus, therefore wherever possible they create doubts and confusions about the teachings related to the Holy Trinity, i.e., the Triune God; they create and spread concepts that speak against the Biblical fact of Trinity. One of their false doctrines is this confusion they have spread about the name under which baptism is to be administered.

If one carefully considers these issues, it becomes apparent that through trying to show baptism to be valid or invalid because of the name it has been administered in, the place it has been administered in, etc. Satan has tried to beguile people away into vain arguments and dissensions, into trusting in righteousness of works. These are satanic ploys to turn the minds of people away from the salvation by grace of God through simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; to get them entangled in trying to be acceptable to God through vain works and methodologies; to get entangled in unnecessary disputes, keep fighting amongst themselves, instead of preaching and propagating the gospel, as they ought to be doing. By keeping these things in mind, it is clear that what is important is the taking of baptism to fulfill the commandment of the Lord Jesus; and not what names were being spoken while administering it and whether it was taken in flowing or still water. Therefore, besides what the Lord Jesus has said and instructed, no other unnecessary and unintended importance should be attached to baptism. Being baptized is a commandment of the Lord, and obeying the Lord brings blessings. But baptism neither gives salvation; nor, not being baptized takes salvation away.

If you are a Christian Believer, then as instructed by the Lord Jesus, it is essential that every Born-Again Believer take baptism at the first available opportunity - not to confirm or establish the salvation received by the grace of God, but to publicly witness for it. Whether this baptism is taken “in the name of Jesus”, or, “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”; in flowing water or still water - will not impact the state of salvation of the person one way or the other. As it is for repentance, similarly for baptism too, taking or giving baptism is not a formality to be fulfilled, it is not merely for keeping a tradition. Baptism has its purpose and importance, and other than what has been taught by the Lord, no other concepts and teachings should be attached to it and given undue importance.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then take a decision in its favor now to secure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. The Lord's security and blessings are present where there is obedience of the Lord, where His Word is honored and followed. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the time and opportunity to do so right now. Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins, and voluntarily and sincerely surrender yourselves into His hands - this is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. All you have to do is say a short prayer, voluntarily and with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude. You can do this in this manner, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. One prayer said with a sincere and surrendered heart will turn your present and future, your life here on earth and in the next world, forever and make you heavenly and blessed. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so? The decision is yours.

    पिछले दो लेखों में हम दो लोगों के जीवनों के उदाहरण देख चुके हैं जो बहुत ज्ञानी थे, धर्मी थे, कर्मों की धार्मिकता का निर्वाह करते थे, परमेश्वर के वचन और आज्ञाओं का ज्ञान रखते थे और उनका पालन करने का दावा करते थे, समाज में उच्च ओहदा रखते थे। किन्तु दोनों ही अपने अंदर जानते थे कि अपने इस ज्ञान, धर्म के निर्वाह, वचन की बातों को मानने, लोगों की दृष्टि में धर्मी और आदरणीय होने के बावजूद, वे परमेश्वर के सम्मुख खड़े हो पाने और उसके राज्य में प्रवेश कर पाने के लिए अयोग्य थे। उनके मन और विवेक उन्हें चेतावनी दे रहे थे कि अभी, समय रहते, जब प्रभु का अनुग्रह उन्हें उपलब्ध है, इस स्थिति को ठीक कर लें; और इसी लिए समाधान को ढूँढने के लिए वे प्रभु यीशु मसीह के पास आए थे। उनमें से एक, नीकुदेमुस तो संभवतः आगे चलकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह का विश्वासी बन गया था, उसने अरमतियाह के यूसुफ के साथ मिलकर प्रभु यीशु की देह को क्रूस पर से उतरवाकर दफनाया था (यूहन्ना 19:38-39); किन्तु दूसरा व्यक्ति, जो धनी जवान सरदार था, सांसारिक संपत्ति के मोह से अपने आप को अलग नहीं कर पाया और वापस संसार में लौट गया।

 

    आज हम तीसरे व्यक्ति के जीवन के उदाहरण से देखेंगे कि ज्ञान तथा धर्म का निर्वाह कैसे व्यक्ति को सत्य के प्रति अंधा एवं उनकी विचारधारा के अनुसार सत्य का पालन नहीं करने वालों के प्रति क्रूर और निर्मम, अमानवीय, बना देता है। किन्तु जब सत्य से व्यक्ति की पहचान हो जाती है, तो जिस वचन की गलत समझ के कारण वह अनुचित व्यवहार करता था, उसकी सही समझ आ जाने से उसका जीवन, दृष्टिकोण, और व्यवहार कैसे अद्भुत रीति से बदल जाता है। यह तीसरा उदाहरण नए नियम के जाने-माने नायक पौलुस प्रेरित का है, जो मसीही विश्वासी होने से पहले शाऊल के नाम से जाना जाता था (प्रेरितों 13:9)। अपनी परवरिश और शिक्षा से पौलुस एक कट्टर फरीसी था; उसने अपने समय के बहुत आदरणीय और उत्तम शिक्षक गमलीएल (प्रेरितों 5:34) से शिक्षा पाई थी (प्रेरितों 22:3)। 

    इस कट्टर फरीसी, पौलुस का मानना था कि यीशु मसीह तथा मसीही विश्वासी विधर्मी हैं, परमेश्वर और उसकी व्यवस्था का अपमान कर रहे हैं, और उन्हें इसके लिए पकड़ना और दंड दिलवाना चाहिए। इसके लिए वह स्थान-स्थान पर जाकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों को पकड़ कर लाया करता था, जिससे धर्म के ठेकेदार उन्हें विधर्मी होने के लिए दंडित कर सकें (प्रेरितों 7:60; 8:2-3; 26:12)। उसके दृष्टिकोण और विचारों को उसके ही शब्दों में देखते हैं: “मैं ने भी समझा था कि यीशु नासरी के नाम के विरोध में मुझे बहुत कुछ करना चाहिए। और मैं ने यरूशलेम में ऐसा ही किया; और महायाजकों से अधिकार पाकर बहुत से पवित्र लोगों को बन्‍दीगृह में डाला, और जब वे मार डाले जाते थे, तो मैं भी उन के विरोध में अपनी सम्मति देता था। और हर आराधनालय में मैं उन्हें ताड़ना दिला दिलाकर यीशु की निन्दा करवाता था, यहां तक कि क्रोध के मारे ऐसा पागल हो गया, कि बाहर के नगरों में भी जा कर उन्हें सताता था” (प्रेरितों 26:9-11)।

    उसे मिली उसके धर्म की शिक्षा और धार्मिकता के निर्वाह तथा व्यवहार के आधार पर, पौलुस की समझ उसे प्रेरित करती थी कि:

* उसे यीशु नासरी के विरुद्ध बहुत कुछ करना चाहिए;

* उसे पवित्र लोगों को बंदीगृह में डालना चाहिए; 

* वह उन लोगों के मसीही विश्वास के लिए मार डाले जाने में सहमत रहे; 

* हर आराधनालय में वह उनकी ताड़ना करता और उनसे जबरन यीशु की निन्दा करवाए;

* बाहर के नगरों में भी जाकर मसीही विश्वासियों को सताए; 

* उनके विरुद्ध अपने क्रोध के मारे वह पागल सा हो गया था। 

    पौलुस के धर्म, और धर्म के उसके ज्ञान तथा धार्मिकता ने उसका यह अमानवीय व्यवहार करवाने वाला हाल बना दिया था। किन्तु जब ऐसे ही एक अभियान पर दमिश्क जाते समय प्रभु यीशु मसीह से, उनके महिमित स्वरूप में, उसका साक्षात्कार हुआ, तो उसका जीवन, समझ, दृष्टिकोण, और व्यवहार सभी बदल गए (प्रेरितों 9:2-6; 26:13-15)। उस पहले साक्षात्कार में ही पौलुस ने यीशु को “प्रभु” मान लिया “उसने पूछा; हे प्रभु, तू कौन है? उसने कहा; मैं यीशु हूं; जिसे तू सताता है” (प्रेरितों 9:5)। प्रभु यीशु ने उसके समर्पण को स्वीकार किया और उद्धार के सुसमाचार के प्रचार की सेवकाई सौंपी, परंतु साथ ही यह भी बता दिया कि इस सेवकाई के निर्वाह में उसे बहुत दुख उठाने होंगे “परन्तु प्रभु ने उस से कहा, कि तू चला जा; क्योंकि यह, तो अन्यजातियों और राजाओं, और इस्राएलियों के सामने मेरा नाम प्रगट करने के लिये मेरा चुना हुआ पात्र है। और मैं उसे बताऊंगा, कि मेरे नाम के लिये उसे कैसा कैसा दुख उठाना पड़ेगा” (प्रेरितों 9:15-16); साथ ही यह आश्वासन भी दिया कि उन सभी कठिन और दुखदाई परिस्थितियों में प्रभु उसकी रक्षा करेगा, उसके साथ रहेगा “और मैं तुझे तेरे लोगों से और अन्यजातियों से बचाता रहूंगा, जिन के पास मैं अब तुझे इसलिये भेजता हूं। कि तू उन की आंखें खोले, कि वे अंधकार से ज्योति की ओर, और शैतान के अधिकार से परमेश्वर की ओर फिरें; कि पापों की क्षमा, और उन लोगों के साथ जो मुझ पर विश्वास करने से पवित्र किए गए हैं, मीरास पाएं” (प्रेरितों 26:17-18)। और तुरंत ही पौलुस इस सेवकाई में लग गया “और वह तुरन्त आराधनालयों में यीशु का प्रचार करने लगा, कि वह परमेश्वर का पुत्र है” (प्रेरितों 9:20)। 

    जिस धर्मशास्त्र की अपनी शिक्षा और समझ के अनुसार वह प्रभु यीशु और उसके शिष्यों का घोर विरोध करता था, प्रभु से उसी धर्मशास्त्र की सही समझ प्राप्त करने के बाद वह उसी धर्मशास्त्र में से यीशु के मसीह होने को प्रमाणित करने लगा “परन्तु शाऊल और भी सामर्थी होता गया, और इस बात का प्रमाण दे देकर कि मसीह यही है, दमिश्क के रहने वाले यहूदियों का मुंह बन्द करता रहा” (प्रेरितों 9:22); “जब सीलास और तीमुथियुस मकिदुनिया से आए, तो पौलुस वचन सुनाने की धुन में लगकर यहूदियों को गवाही देता था कि यीशु ही मसीह है” (प्रेरितों 18:5); “और पौलुस अपनी रीति के अनुसार उन के पास गया, और तीन सबत के दिन पवित्र शास्त्रों से उन के साथ विवाद किया। और उन का अर्थ खोल खोल कर समझाता था, कि मसीह को दुख उठाना, और मरे हुओं में से जी उठना, अवश्य था; और यही यीशु जिस की मैं तुम्हें कथा सुनाता हूं, मसीह है” (प्रेरितों 17:2-3)।

    अपने जीवन, तथा परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति अपने दृष्टिकोण के इस अद्भुत परिवर्तन के विषय पौलुस ने फिलिप्पी की मसीही मंडली को लिखा, कि व्यवस्था की जिन बातों को वह पहले अति महत्वपूर्ण समझता था, अब मसीह यीशु द्वारा मानव जाति के उद्धार और मनुष्यों को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य बनाने के लिए प्रभु यीशु द्वारा किए गए कार्य की सही पहचान हो जाने के बाद, वह अपनी उन पिछली धारणाओं के गलत एवं व्यर्थ होने को समझ गया, वचन और व्यवस्था के प्रति उसका दृष्टिकोण सुधर कर ठीक हो गया, और अब वह केवल मसीह यीशु के ज्ञान में बढ़ने की चाह रखने लगा, व्यवस्था से धर्मी माने जाने की नहीं (फिलिप्पियों 3:4-14)। 

    शाऊल/पौलुस के धर्म, शिक्षा, ज्ञान, और उसकी अपनी समझ ने उसे उसी परमेश्वर और उस परमेश्वर के शिष्यों का बैरी और नाश करने वाला बना दिया, जिसकी वह सेवा करना चाहता था, और सोचता था कि मसीहियों को सताने के द्वारा वह उसकी सेवा कर रहा है। इस बात के विषय उसने अपने हृदय की व्यथा और खेद कुरिन्थुस तथा अपने सहकर्मी तिमुथियुस को लिखी हुई पत्रियों में व्यक्त व्यक्त की है, “और सब के बाद मुझ को भी दिखाई दिया, जो मानो अधूरे दिनों का जन्मा हूं। क्योंकि मैं प्रेरितों में सब से छोटा हूं, वरन प्रेरित कहलाने के योग्य भी नहीं, क्योंकि मैं ने परमेश्वर की कलीसिया को सताया था” (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:8-9); “यह बात सच और हर प्रकार से मानने के योग्य है, कि मसीह यीशु पापियों का उद्धार करने के लिये जगत में आया, जिन में सब से बड़ा मैं हूं” (1 तीमुथियुस 1:15)। किन्तु प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर लाए विश्वास ने उसे धर्मशास्त्र की सही समझ दी, उसकी सेवा को सही उद्देश्य और दिशा दी, उसे हर परिस्थिति में प्रभु परमेश्वर का साथ और सहायता को प्रदान किया। उसकी मसीही सेवकाई का जीवन बहुत कठिन और दुखों से भरा हुआ था; किन्तु अपने जीवन के अंत के समय उसके पास अभूतपूर्व शांति थी, उसे एक आश्वासन था, जो उसने सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए भी व्यक्त किया “क्योंकि अब मैं अर्घ के समान उंडेला जाता हूं, और मेरे कूच का समय आ पहुंचा है। मैं अच्छी कुश्ती लड़ चुका हूं मैं ने अपनी दौड़ पूरी कर ली है, मैं ने विश्वास की रखवाली की है। भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:6-8)। 

    पौलुस के जीवन में जो काम उसकी परवरिश एवं परमेश्वर के वचन के बारे में तथा धर्म के निर्वाह के लिए उसे मनुष्यों से मिली शिक्षा नहीं कर सकी; इन बातों पर आधारित उसकी समझ के अनुसार किए गए उसके “धर्म के काम” नहीं कर सके, वह प्रभु यीशु मसीह के प्रति सच्चे समर्पित विश्वास ने एक पल में करवा दिया; उसका जीवन, व्यवहार, और दृष्टिकोण बिल्कुल बदल दिया। पौलुस के धर्म और मनुष्यों से मिले ज्ञान ने उसे अनजाने में ही पागलों के समान मनुष्यों और परमेश्वर का विरोधी, उनका सताने वाला, प्रभु परमेश्वर का निरादर करने वाला बना दिया था। मसीही विश्वास ने उसे दुख उठा कर भी धीरज, सहनशीलता, और प्रेम के साथ मनुष्यों की भलाई और प्रभु परमेश्वर की सेवकाई करने वाला बना दिया। प्रभु परमेश्वर से मिली वचन की सही शिक्षा ने उसे ऐसी गहरी, सच्ची, और ठोस समझ प्रदान की जो उसे और कहीं से नहीं मिल सकती थी। परिणामस्वरूप पौलुस में होकर परमेश्वर के वचन की वह व्याख्या हमें उपलब्ध हुई है, जो आज दो हज़ार साल बाद भी लोगों के दर्शनों को खोल रही है, उनके जीवन बदल रही है, और संसार के अंत तथा न्याय के लिए मसीही विश्वासियों को तैयार कर रही है।

    अपने जीवन का आँकलन करके देखिए। कहीं आप भी अपने ज्ञान, धर्म, और कर्मों की धार्मिकता के नाम पर मनुष्यों के बैरी, उन्हें सताने वाले, और परमेश्वर की निन्दा का कारण तो नहीं बन रहे हैं? प्रभु यीशु मसीह के सच्ची पहचान में आइए, उसे अपना प्रभु स्वीकार कीजिए, आपके जीवन का दृष्टिकोण और व्यवहार ही बदल जाएगा; परमेश्वर के वचन के प्रति आपकी समझ खुल जाएगी, नई हो जाएगी; आप परमेश्वर की निन्दा के नहीं, प्रशंसा के कारण, उसके गवाह बन जाएंगे। स्वेच्छा से, सच्चे पश्चाताप और समर्पण के साथ एक छोटी प्रार्थना, “हे प्रभु यीशु मैं स्वीकार करता हूँ कि मैं पापी हूँ और आपकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करता रहता हूँ। मैं स्वीकार करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों को अपने ऊपर लेकर, मेरे बदले में उनके दण्ड को कलवरी के क्रूस पर सहा, और मेरे लिए अपने आप को बलिदान किया। आप मेरे लिए मारे गए, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए तीसरे दिन जी उठे। कृपया मुझ पर दया करके मेरे पापों को क्षमा कर दीजिए, मुझे अपनी शरण में ले लीजिए, अपना आज्ञाकारी शिष्य बनाकर, अपने साथ कर लीजिए।” सच्चे मन से की गई पश्चाताप और समर्पण की एक प्रार्थना आपके जीवन को अभी से लेकर अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय जीवन बना देगी, स्वर्गीय आशीषों का वारिस कर देगी।

The Solution For Sin - Salvation - 8

In the previous two articles we have seen from the lives of two people who were well-educated, very religious, who practiced righteousness through their religious works, were knowledgeable about God’s Word and His Commandments and claimed to follow them, and they also had a high status in the society. But both of them knew within themselves that despite their knowledge, diligently observing their religion, obeying the Commandments, being righteous and honorable in the sight of people they actually were not worthy of standing before God or of entering into his Kingdom. Their hearts and conscience were warning them that now while they have the opportunity, and the Lord's Grace is available to them, they should rectify their situation; so, they had come to the Lord Jesus to seek the solution to their problem. One of them, i.e., Nicodemus probably later on had become a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he along with Joseph of Arimathea, had asked for and taken the body of the Lord from the cross and buried Him (John 19:38-39). The second person, the rich young ruler, could not detach himself from the things of the world and his worldly possessions and had returned back into the world.

Today we will look through the example of the third person, how knowledge and religion can not only make a person blind towards the truth, but can also make him cruel, merciless and inhuman towards those who do not follow his concept of the truth. But once a person actually comes to know the truth, then the inappropriate behavior he exhibited because of his wrong understanding of the truth, and his life, are all so wonderfully, absolutely transformed. This third example is of Paul, the well-known character of the New Testament, who before his becoming a Christian Believer was known as Saul (Acts 13:9). In his upbringing and education, Paul had been trained under the highly respected and renowned teacher of his time, Gamliel (Acts 5:34; 22:3); and was a very fanatical Pharisee.

This fanatical Pharisee, Paul, believed that Jesus Christ and Christian Believers are heretics, who are insulting God and His Law, and therefore they deserve to be taken into custody and punished. To have this done he used to go from place to place, catch and fetch the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, so that the religious leaders can punish them for being heretics (Acts 7:60; 8:2-3; 26:12). Let us look at his point-of-view and his concepts, from his own words: “Indeed, I myself thought I must do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities” (Acts 26:9-11).

From his above statement we see that on the basis of the religious education he had received, his understanding of being religious and righteous compelled him to believe that:

* He must do as much as and whatever he could against Jesus of Nazareth;

* He must have the saints imprisoned;

* He was consenting and willing to have them killed for their Christian Faith;

* He must punish them in every synagogue, and compel them to blaspheme    against Jesus;

* He must persecute the Christians even to foreign cities;

* And he had become extremely enraged against them.

    The religion and religious knowledge and righteousness of Paul had made him an inhuman persecutor. While going on one of his campaigns, to Damascus, he had an encounter with the Lord Jesus in the Lord’s glorious form, and that encounter totally changed his life, understanding, outlook, and behavior (Acts 9:2-6; 26:13-15). In that very first encounter, Paul accepted Jesus as “Lord” - “And he said, "Who are You, Lord?" Then the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads."” (Acts 9:5). The Lord Jesus accepted his submitting himself to His Lordship and handed him the responsibility of preaching the Gospel, but also made it very clear to him that he will have to suffer many pains and problems in this ministry “But the Lord said to him, "Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name's sake."” (Acts 9:15-16). But at the same time the Lord also assured him that in all those sufferings and harsh circumstances, He will be with him and keep him safe, “I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'” (Acts 26:17-18). Paul immediately started with this ministry entrusted to him, “Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God” (Acts 9:20). 

Based on his own learning and understanding of the Scriptures, he used to severely oppose the Lord Jesus and Christian Believers; but having received the correct understanding of those very Scriptures from the Lord, he immediately started to prove from those same Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah “But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this Jesus is the Christ” (Acts 9:22); “When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ” (Acts 18:5); “Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ."” (Acts 17:3).

Regarding the marvelous transformation of his life, outlook, and understanding of God’s Word, Paul wrote in his letter to the Christian Believer’s Assembly of Philippi, that the things of the Law which he formerly thought to be very important, now having come to gain the true understanding of the work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind and to make mankind acceptable to God, he has come to realize that all his former understanding and concepts were wrong, and vain. Now he has gained the correct understanding and view-point about God’s Word and Law, and therefore, now his only desire is to increase in the knowledge of Christ, instead of being seen as righteous through being a follower of the Law (Philippians 3:4-14).

Saul’s/Paul’s religion, religious education, and his own learning and understanding had made him the opponent and destroyer of the same God, and of the disciples of the very God, that he was wanting to serve, and was thinking is serving by the persecution he was carrying out. In, writing to the Church at Corinth, and to his colleague, Timothy he expresses the regret he had in his heart about his former fanatic behavior, “Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God” (1 Corinthians 15:8-9); “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” (1 Timothy 1:15). But his believing in the Lord Jesus gave him the proper understanding of the Scriptures, gave him the correct perspective and direction for his ministry, and made available to him the help and fellowship of the Lord God in and for everything, all circumstances. His life of Christian ministry was very tough and full of pains; but at the end of his life, he had a wonderful peace within himself, he had an assurance, which he has expressed for all Christian Believers also, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

In Paul’s life, what his upbringing, his learning and knowledge from men about his religion, about God’s Word, and about fulfilling religious obligations could never accomplish; and neither his doing the “religious works” and “works of righteousness” based on his own understanding could do, all that was done in one moment, as soon as he sincerely and completely submitted himself into the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul’s religion had inadvertently made him a fanatic, full of rage against men and God, their persecutor, and one who dishonored the Lord God. Christian Faith made him a man with immense patience, forbearance, and one behaving with love even while suffering opposition for his faith. He became one who did good for others and served God according to God’s calling and will. He was given a deep, factual, true, and solid understanding of God’s Word, which he could never get from anywhere else. Through Paul we have received such an understanding of God’s Word, that is even now, two thousand years later, still opening the understanding of people, changing their lives, and preparing the Christian Believers for the coming end of the world and judgment of God.

Please examine and evaluate your own life. Have you also, in the name of religion and righteousness through religious knowledge and works, become opponents and persecutors of men, and blasphemers of the Lord God?  By coming into the true understanding of the Lord Jesus, by accepting Him as your Lord, your attitude and behavior will be totally transformed. You will get a new and true understanding of God’s Word, you will become a cause of praising and glorifying God, instead of dishonoring Him; you will become His witness for the world. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart and with heart-felt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company, wants to see you blessed; but to make this possible or not, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
