परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता या ‘धर्म’ और ‘भलाई’ के काम?
मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिए जाने वाले वरदानों के विषय अध्ययन करते हुए, हम पिछले दोनों लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को कार्यशील चाहता है, और उसने हर एक के लिए कोई न कोई कार्य पहले से निर्धारित कर रखा है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि परमेश्वर ने जिसके लिए जो सेवकाई निर्धारित की है, उस सेवकाई को वही व्यक्ति ही ठीक से कर सकता है, चाहे उसे अपने ऊपर तथा अपनी योग्यताओं एवं क्षमताओं पर कितना भी अविश्वास क्यों हो। परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए निर्धारित कार्य को भली-भांति करने, और इस संसार में रहते हुए परमेश्वर के लिए उपयोगी होने, तथा संसार के लोगों के समक्ष मसीही जीवन की सही गवाही प्रदर्शित करने के उद्देश्य से परमेश्वर पिता ने अपने लोगों के लिए एक अद्भुत प्रयोजन किया है। मसीही विश्वासियों में सर्वदा निवास करने और उनका मार्गदर्शन तथा सहायता करने वाला परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को उसकी निर्धारित सेवकाई के लिए कोई न कोई उपयुक्त एवं उपयोगी वरदान भी देता है। इस वरदान की सहायता तथा सही उपयोग के द्वारा मसीही विश्वासी, परमेश्वर की महिमा के लिए तथा अपने अनन्तकालीन लाभ एवं प्रतिफलों के लिए, एक सच्चा मसीही जीवन जी सकता है और अपनी निर्धारित सेवकाई को पूरा भी कर सकता है।
शैतान और उसके दूत सदा ही परमेश्वर के कार्यों में बाधा डालने, उन्हें बिगाड़ने, और परमेश्वर की योजनाओं के कार्यान्वित होने में किसी न किसी रीति से रुकावटें लाने के प्रयास में लगे रहते हैं। वे सदा ही संसार के लोगों के समक्ष मसीही विश्वास को व्यर्थ, मसीही जीवन को निरर्थक, तथा सुसमाचार को अप्रभावी एवं अनुपयोगी दिखाने के प्रयास में लगे रहते हैं। अपने इस शैतानी उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए वे कई प्रकार के साधन अपनाते हैं। यह आवश्यक नहीं है कि वे हर किसी को दुराचारी तथा समाज की दृष्टि में पतित व्यक्ति बनाएं, या बनाए रखें। वे अपने इस उद्देश्य को व्यक्ति को ‘धर्मी’, ‘धर्म’ के तथा ‘भलाई’ के कार्य करने वाला, और इन कार्यों के द्वारा लोगों में प्रतिष्ठित एवं उच्च स्थान और मान रखने वाला बना कर भी परमेश्वर का विरोध करने की अपनी युक्तियों और योजनाओं को कार्यान्वित कर सकते हैं - और बहुधा यही करते भी हैं। यह एक बार को बहुत अटपटा और अस्वीकार्य प्रतीत हो सकता है, किन्तु यदि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दी गई बातों पर थोड़ी गंभीरता से तथा पिछले लेखों को स्मरण करते हुए विचार करें तो प्रकट हो जाएगा कि यह कहना गलत नहीं है।
ध्यान कीजिए, सृष्टि के आरंभ में, जब पृथ्वी पर पाप नहीं था, शैतान और उसकी सेनाओं का कोई बोल-बाला नहीं था, आदम और हव्वा परमेश्वर के साथ संगति में तथा परमेश्वर द्वारा उनके लिए लगाई गई अदन की वाटिका में बड़े आनन्द और स्वच्छ मन से रहते थे, ऐसे में शैतान ने संसार में पाप को कैसे प्रवेश दिलाया? उसने हव्वा में वह करने की इच्छा जागृत की जो हव्वा की अपनी बुद्धि और समझ, तथा दृष्टि में अच्छा और लाभदायक था, यद्यपि हव्वा में जागृत हुई वह लालसा परमेश्वर की प्रकट एवं ज्ञात इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं थी। फिर भी हव्वा ने स्वयं भी वह अनुचित कार्य किया, और आदम से भी करवाया; ऐसा कार्य जो चाहे प्रतीत होने में अहानिकारक था, किन्तु वास्तविकता में परमेश्वर की इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं था, और पाप को संसार में प्रवेश मिल गया, संसार पाप और शैतान के चंगुल में फंस गया। मनुष्यों द्वारा किया गया प्रथम पाप परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता था; इसके विपरीत, विचार कीजिए, परमेश्वर ने किस बात को मनुष्यों के द्वारा उसकी भक्ति और सेवा के लिए उसकी दृष्टि में सबसे उत्तम तथा सर्वोपरि कहा है? उत्तर कठिन नहीं है - परमेश्वर ने मनुष्यों से सदा केवल अपनी आज्ञाकारिता ही चाही है। इस संदर्भ में बाइबल से कुछ बातों को देखिए और विचार कीजिए:
परमेश्वर द्वारा कही गई बात, और दिए गए निर्देशों के निर्वाह को बाइबल में सभी बलिदानों और भेंटों से अधिक बढ़कर कहा गया है (1 शमूएल 15:22)।
परमेश्वर यहोवा ने यशायाह में होकर अपने लोगों इस्राएलियों पर यह स्पष्ट कर दिया कि उसे उनके पर्वों, भेंटों, बलिदानों से घृणा है, क्योंकि वे उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में नहीं चल रहे थे (यशायाह 1:11-19); यहाँ पद 19 में परमेश्वर स्पष्ट कहता है, “यदि तुम आज्ञाकारी हो कर मेरी मानो,... ”
पुराने नियम की अंतिम पुस्तक, मलाकी 1:10 में परमेश्वर ने इस्राएल की अनाज्ञाकारिता और मन-मर्ज़ी का जीवन जीने और कार्य करने के संदर्भ में उन से बहुत दुखी मन से कहा, “भला होता कि तुम में से कोई मन्दिर के किवाड़ों को बन्द करता कि तुम मेरी वेदी पर व्यर्थ आग जलाने न पाते! सेनाओं के यहोवा का यह वचन है, मैं तुम से कदापि प्रसन्न नहीं हूं, और न तुम्हारे हाथ से भेंट ग्रहण करूंगा” और फिर मलाकी के समय से लेकर प्रभु यीशु मसीह के आगमन तक 400 वर्ष का वह अंधकारमय समय है जब परमेश्वर ने इस्राएलियों से बात करना बंद कर दिया, उन्हें उनकी इच्छाओं पर छोड़ दिया। प्रभु यीशु उनके मध्य पापों से पश्चाताप और परमेश्वर के साथ मेल-मिलाप के सुसमाचार को लेकर आया, किन्तु उन्होंने उसका तिरस्कार किया, उसे क्रूस पर चढ़ा कर मरवा दिया। इसके कुछ समय बाद इस्राएल का एक राष्ट्र के रूप में अस्तित्व का अन्त हो गया, और परमेश्वर ने यहूदियों को सारे संसार में विस्थापित कर दिया और लगभग 2000 वर्ष तक वे संसार भर में ताड़नाओं को सहते रहे।
प्रभु यीशु मसीह का संसार में आने और समस्त मानवजाति के लिए पापों से मुक्ति तथा परमेश्वर के साथ संगति और सहभागिता पुनःस्थापित करने का मार्ग बना कर देना परमेश्वर की आज्ञाकारिता, तथा बाइबल में लिखी बातों के पूरा करने के द्वारा था (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:1-4; इब्रानियों 10:5-9)।
प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों को बल देकर प्रभु की बातें मानने के लिए कहा (लूका 6:46-49)।
जब शिष्यों ने रूपांतरण के पहाड़ पर प्रभु के लिए मंडप बनाकर प्रभु को आदर देना चाहा, तो परमेश्वर ने आकाशवाणी के द्वारा उन्हें यह करने की बजाए प्रभु यीशु की बातें मानने के लिए कहा (लूका 9:33-35)।
प्रभु ने परमेश्वर की इच्छा को पूरा करने के लिए क्रूस की मृत्यु को सहना भी स्वीकार कर लिया (मत्ती 26:38-44)।
अब उपरोक्त प्रथम पाप के कारण को और परमेश्वर की मनुष्य के लिए इच्छा की बातों को साथ मिलाकर देखिए, तो बात स्पष्ट हो जाएगी। हर वह कार्य जो परमेश्वर की इच्छा से बाहर, मनुष्य की अपनी इच्छा और अपनी ही दृष्टि में भला, उपयोगी, तथा लाभप्रद होने के अंतर्गत किया गया हो, वह परमेश्वर को कदापि स्वीकार नहीं है - चाहे वह भक्ति, श्रद्धा, भलाई, आदि की भावनाओं के अंतर्गत किया गया और मनुष्यों में कितना भी आदरणीय क्यों न हो। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि न केवल यह परमेश्वर की अनाज्ञाकारिता है, वरन इसलिए भी क्योंकि ऐसे कार्यों में होकर शैतान मनुष्यों के अंदर उनकी स्व-धार्मिकता, उनके द्वारा स्वयं-निर्धारित भलाई के माप-दण्ड, और अन्य मनुष्यों के साथ अपनी तुलना करने और ‘बड़े-छोटे’ होने का आँकलन करने आदि भावनाओं को जागृत करके, अहम तथा अपने कार्यों के लिए घमंड में डाल देता है - यह घमंड चाहे नम्रता और दीनता के आवरण में अप्रत्यक्ष और कितना भी छिपा हुआ क्यों न हो। और कैसा भी, कितना ही लेश-मात्र भी घमण्ड परमेश्वर स्वीकार नहीं करता है; जहाँ जरा सा भी घमण्ड है, वहाँ परमेश्वर का साथ और स्वीकृति कदापि नहीं हो सकते हैं। और इस प्रकार से शैतान लोगों को उनकी धार्मिकता, उनके भले कार्यों, उनके द्वारा मनुष्यों में मान-सम्मान अर्जित करने, मनुष्यों में प्रतिष्ठित होने आदि जैसी बातों की लालसा रखने तथा करते रहने में फंसा कर, परमेश्वर की इच्छा जानने, परमेश्वर का आज्ञाकारी होने, परमेश्वर द्वारा उनके लिए नियुक्त और निर्धारित कार्य को करने से, अर्थात उनकी आशीषों से उन्हें वंचित कर देता है। उस व्यक्ति के लिए परमेश्वर ने जो योजना बनाई और निर्धारित की, उसका पालन करने के स्थान पर, हव्वा के समान, वह शैतान के फुसलाए जाने में आकर अपनी ही दृष्टि में सही और लाभदायक करने के द्वारा, फिर वह आदम और हव्वा के समान ही परमेश्वर के विमुख हो जाता है और शैतान के हाथों की कठपुतली बन जाता है। परिणाम-स्वरूप उसके ये सभी ‘धर्म’ अथवा ‘भलाई’ के कार्य परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में अस्वीकार्य (यशायाह 64:6), और जो वरदान परमेश्वर ने उसके लिए रखे हैं, वे सभी व्यर्थ हो जाते हैं। अगले लेख में हम इसे मसीही जीवन के संदर्भ में और विस्तार से देखेंगे।
यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो अपने जीवन, व्यवहार और कार्यों को जाँचिए कि आप परमेश्वर की इच्छा में होकर, उसकी आज्ञाकारिता में चल रहे हैं कि नहीं (2 कुरिन्थियों 13:5)? या आप अपने ‘ईसाई धर्म’ और मत-समुदाय-डिनोमिनेशंस के नियमों तथा उनके अगुवों की बातों का निर्वाह करने के आधार पर यह मानकर चल रहे हैं कि आप अपने लिए परमेश्वर की इच्छा को पूरा कर रहे हैं। ध्यान कीजिए, राजा दाऊद ने भी परमेश्वर के नबी नातान की सहमति के साथ परमेश्वर के लिए भवन बनवाना चाहा था, किन्तु परमेश्वर ने इसे तुरंत ही अस्वीकार कर दिया था (1 इतिहास 17:1-4)। हर बात में, हर बात के लिए प्रार्थना में रहकर हर कार्य के विषय परमेश्वर से उसकी इच्छा जानने के बाद ही उस बात को करें। परम्पराएं और धार्मिक रीति-रिवाज़ निभाने के चक्करों में न रहें। आज के ईसाई धर्म और मसीही समाज की अधिकांश परम्पराएं और धार्मिक उत्सव तथा रीतियाँ परमेश्वर द्वारा दी हुई या बाइबल में पाई जाने वाली बातें नहीं, वरन अन्यजातियों के धर्मों में से ईसाई धर्म में अपनाई गई बातें हैं। इसलिए उनके निर्वाह को लेकर अपने आप को परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य मत समझिए।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Works of Righteousness vs. Obedience to God
While considering the role of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Christian Living and Ministry, we have seen in the previous articles that God wants to see every Christian Believer to be active and working to fulfill his God assigned work and ministry. We also saw that the work and ministry God has determined for a person, that work or assignment can be properly fulfilled only by that very person, no matter how much he may doubt his ability and qualifications for that work and ministry. God the Father has made ready and available a wonderful provision for every Christian Believer to be able to fulfill his work and ministry well, to be effective and fruitful for the Lord in this world, and to be able to present a worthy witness of Christian living before the people of this world. God the Holy Spirit, permanently residing in every Christian Believer since the moment of his salvation for his guidance and help, also gives to every Christian Believer some gift or the other, appropriate and helpful in fulfilling his God assigned Christian ministry. By the help and proper utilization of this gift, the Christian Believer can live an effective Christian life and fulfill his ministry as well, for the glory of God and his own eternal benefits and rewards.
Satan and his angels always keep trying to obstruct and spoil God’s plans, and to somehow prevent God’s work being carried out and bear fruit. They always try to present before the people of the world that Christian Faith is vain, Christian life is of no benefit, and the Gospel is ineffective and useless in today’s world. They take recourse to many schemes to fulfill their devious intentions. In doing so, it is not necessary that they should make and show every person to be corrupt, wayward, one who is depraved and immoral in the eyes of the society. They can accomplish their nefarious designs just as well by deceiving a person into being ‘self-righteous’, ‘religious’, engaged in ‘righteous works’ etc., and through these works make him to be an honorable person of a high stature in the society. The person stays busy and engaged in these self-assigned or world-assigned activities, having no time or thought of seeking God’s will about them. He vainly and falsely assumes that the acceptance, praise, and adoration by the people of the world about his life and works is also tantamount to acceptance, praise, and adoration by God. This may seem to be a very odd and unacceptable notion, but if one were to consider what God’s Word the Bible says somewhat seriously, and recalls what we have seen in the previous articles, then it becomes apparent that there is nothing wrong in saying this.
Take note, at the beginning of creation, when there was no sin on earth, Satan and his angels had no say about anything on earth, Adam and Eve were living a very joyful life with pure hearts and minds in fellowship with God. Then how did Satan bring about the entry of sin into the world and the lives of men? Satan planted a thought and desire in Eve to do that which seemed good and beneficial to her, in her own eyes, in her own assessment, although that thought and desire was not in accordance with the revealed and stated will of God for Adam and Eve. Still, Eve did it and got Adam to do it as well; what they did seemed to be harmless, rather beneficial for them, but actually speaking was not in the will of God, and their doing it allowed sin to enter into the world, the world fell into the trap of Satan. The first sin committed by man was disobedience of God; in contrast, think and see, what has God said is the best and most acceptable thing from man that makes Him happy? The answer is not difficult - God has only desired His obedience from man - always and for all things. In this context, consider and ponder over some Biblical facts:
God has called the fulfilling of His commands and instructions as something greater than all gifts and sacrifices offered to Him (1 Samuel 15:22).
God made it clear to His people the Israelites through His prophet Isaiah that He abhors their ritualistic observance of feasts, gifts, and sacrifices, because they were not living in obedience to Him (Isaiah 1:11-19); here, in verse 19 God very clearly says, “If you are willing and obedient, …”
In Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, God with a very sad heart, because of the disobedient life of the Israelites, where they were doing everything according to their own likes and fancy says, “Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you, Says the Lord of hosts, Nor will I accept an offering from your hands” (Malachi 1:10). After Malachi, there is a dark period of 400 years in which God stopped speaking to His people, and left them to their own desires, till the coming of the Lord Jesus, with the gospel of repentance for sins and being reconciled with God. But the Israelites in their own contrived religiosity and self-righteousness, rejected and crucified Him. Soon after that Israel as a nation ceased to exist, God dispersed the Israelites all over the world to be severely chastened, for about 2000 years.
The coming of the Lord Jesus into the world and preparing the way for forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God, restoration of fellowship with God for the entire mankind was through obedience to God and fulfilling the things written in the Bible about Him (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Hebrews 10:5-9).
The Lord Jesus emphatically asked His disciples not to just offer a ‘lip-service’, but to actually be obedient to Him (Luke 6:46-49).
When the disciples wanted to build tabernacles for the Lord on the Mount of Transfiguration to honor Him, God spoke from heaven asking them to obey the Lord Jesus, instead (Luke 9:33-35).
The Lord, in obedience to God, was willing to suffer the death of the cross (Matthew 26:38-44).
Now, when you place together and consider the reason behind the committing of the first sin, and the desire of God for man, then it becomes clear that everything that is outside the will of God, but still is done by man because it seems to be good, beneficial, and commendable to man in his own sight, is not acceptable to God - even though it may be done as an act of devotion, godliness, and goodness, and may be seen to be very commendable and honorable to the people of the world. This is so because not only is this act a disobedience to God, but also because through such works, Satan deceives men into self-righteousness, into putting up their own self-made standards of goodness over and above God’s, assessing themselves, and imposing their assessments upon God and men. Through this, Satan causes men to fall into feelings of superiority-inferiority, creates problems through their ego, and gives them a sense of pride in their ‘good’ works - although that pride may be cloaked in expressions of humility and meekness. We know that God does not tolerate any pride; any pride disrupts relationships with Him. In this manner Satan deprives men of their eternal blessings and benefits by beguiling them into having a desire for getting honour and commendations from people because of their own godliness, righteousness, and good works, instead of being desirous of knowing God’s will, being obedient to God, and doing the works and ministry assigned to them by God. Like it happened with Eve, the person, instead of fulfilling the plan God had made for him, under Satan’s deception, falls away into doing that which seems right and beneficial to him in his own eyes, into taking a stand contrary to God, and ends up becoming a puppet in the hands of Satan. Therefore, all his works of self-righteousness and own goodness are unacceptable in the eyes of God (Isaiah 64:6), and all the gifts that God has kept ready for him become vain and useless. In the next article, we will see this in some more details in context of Christian Living.
If you are a Christian Believer, and have surrendered your life to the Lord God, then it is mandatory for you to live and do according to what God asks you to do (2 Corinthians 5:15); and not try to coerce and manipulate God into accepting what you plan and decide to do in God’s name. Your blessings are only in carrying out your ministry in obedience and submission to God, nothing else. Whatever work and ministry God has kept for you, to help you fulfill it and to give you the required ability and power for it, He has also put in place gifts of the Holy Spirit commensurate with the task He has assigned to you. The purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is to enable you, to empower you to carry out your God assigned ministry in the most efficient and effective manner, so that eventually you are eternally benefitted by God’s blessings and rewards.
If you are a Christian Believer, then examine and evaluate your life and make sure that you are walking and working in the will of God (2 Corinthians 13:5). If you are assuming that you are fulfilling the will of God by living according to the tenets of religion, or of your sect or denomination and its elders, then you may be in a very precarious position. Remember, King David wanted to build a house for God, and God’s prophet, Nathan was in agreement with him about it; but God rejected the proposal immediately (1 Chronicles 17:1-4). Always, first pray and confirm that whatever you are wanting to do, it is in the will of God or not; and then do it only if you are sure that it is in the will of God. Do not fall into the deception of fulfilling traditions and religious rituals to consider yourself to be in the will of God. Today, most of the so-called “Christian” traditions, religious feast and festivals, and rituals so enthusiastically being observed in the Christian religion and society are actually not God-given, but have been adopted into the Christian religion from other pagan religions. Therefore, their observation and celebration does not in any way make you acceptable and pleasing to God at all.
If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, a child of God, entitled to a place in heaven, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start learning, understanding, and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.
If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
