प्रभु की मेज़ - भाग लेने योग्य बनना
पिछले दो लेखों में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:27 से देखा था कि प्रभु भोज में अयोग्य तथा योग्य रीति से भाग लेने का क्या अभिप्राय है। मूल यूनानी भाषा में प्रयोग किए गए जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “अनुचित रीत से” हुआ है, उसका शब्दार्थ होता है मूल से कुछ भी भिन्न। प्रभु यीशु द्वारा मेज़ की स्थापना के समय दिए गए उसके अभिप्राय, तरीके, और उद्देश्य से भिन्न जो भी अन्य कोई भी अभिप्राय, तरीका, या उद्देश्य होगा, वह “अनुचित रीत से” भाग लेना होगा। पिछले लेख में हमने साथ ही यह भी देखा था कि इसका यह अर्थ कदापि नहीं है कि केवल जो निष्पाप सिद्ध हों, केवल वही प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकते हैं; क्योंकि यह तो एक असंभवता है - प्रभु भोज की स्थापना के समय प्रभु के साथ जो शिष्य बैठे हुए थे, वे भी निष्पाप और सिद्ध नहीं थे। लेकिन इसका यह अर्थ अवश्य है कि भाग लेने वालों को प्रभु यीशु के सामने अपने पापों का अंगीकार करने, उन्हें मान लेने, उनके लिए पश्चाताप करने वाले होना है, जिससे कि वे परमेश्वर से 1 यूहन्ना 1:7-10 की प्रतिज्ञा, विशेषकर पद 9 में दी गई प्रतिज्ञा का लाभ ले सकें, और प्रभु भोज में योग्य रीति से भाग लेने वाले बन सकें, अपने पापों को छुपाने या ढिठाई से उनमें बने रहने की बजाए।
इसी आधार पर, पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:28 में प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के लिए योग्य बनने की विधि दी है, चाहे भाग लेने वाले का जीवन पहले योग्य नहीं भी रहा हो। ध्यान रखें, जैसे कि हम पहले 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:25-26 से देख चुके हैं, प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वालों को भाग लेते समय प्रभु यीशु के जीवन और उनके लिए दिए गए बलिदान को याद करना है, और भाग लेने के द्वारा वे प्रभु की मृत्यु का प्रचार करते हैं। इसलिए, प्रभावी रीति, उस समय पर वे आत्मा और मानसिकता में प्रभु के जीवन, उसके स्वर्ग छोड़कर पृथ्वी पर आने, उसके द्वारा उनके लिए अपने आप को बलिदान करने के उद्देश्य, आदि के समक्ष होते हैं। अब इस स्थिति में, भाग लेने वाले को अपने आप से यह प्रश्न पूछना चाहिए, “क्योंकि मेरे प्रति अपने प्रेम और देखभाल के कारण, प्रभु ने अपने आप को मेरे लिए बलिदान कर दिया, जिससे कि मैं पाप से छुड़ाया जा सकूँ, और सदा के लिए परमेश्वर के साथ मेल में रहूँ (रोमियों 5:1, 11), इसलिए मेरे जीवन में क्या ऐसा कुछ है जो जिससे परमेश्वर को घृणा है, उसे पसंद नहीं है, उसके वचन के विरुद्ध है, तथा मेरे और परमेश्वर के मध्य बाधा (यशायाह 59:1-2) बन रहा है?” भाग लेने वाले को, भाग लेने से पहले परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करते हुए कि वह उसके जीवन में विद्यमान पापों को दिखाए, अपने जीवन को जाँचना है; और परमेश्वर जो भी पाप दिखाता है उनका अंगीकार करके, उन्हें मान के, उनके लिए पश्चाताप करके प्रभु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगनी है, और 1 यूहन्ना 1:9 के आधार पर परमेश्वर से अपने आप को ठीक करवाना है।
सीधी सी बात यही है कि अपनी स्वाभाविक या सामान्य स्थिति में कोई भी प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के योग्य कभी नहीं होता है, जैसा कि हम 1 यूहन्ना 1:8, 10 से देखते हैं। हर एक जन पाप करता है, मसीही विश्वासी और प्रभु के शिष्य भी; और जो कोई यह कहता है कि उसमें कोई पाप नहीं है, वह परमेश्वर को झूठा ठहराता है - जो होना संभव नहीं है, और यह असंभवता स्वतः ही उनके निष्पाप होने के दावे को तुरन्त ही झूठा साबित कर देती है। इस बात को प्रभु यीशु ने शिष्यों के पाँव धोने के द्वारा बहुत अच्छी तरह से कहा और समझाया है (यूहन्ना 13:4-15)। जब प्रभु यह कार्य कर रहा था, और वह पतरस के पास पहुँचा, तब पतरस सहमत नहीं था कि प्रभु उसके पाँव धोए। उस समय प्रभु यीशु ने कुछ बहुत महत्वपूर्ण कहा था जिसका हमारे संदर्भ में बहुत महत्व है। प्रभु यीशु ने पतरस से कहा कि यद्यपि वह “नहा चुका है” साफ है, किन्तु फिर भी उसे समय-समय पर पाँव धुलवाने की आवश्यकता है। संसार में चलते समय, अर्थात संसार के साथ संपर्क में आने के कारण, पतरस तथा अन्य सभी के पाँवों पर, उनके संसार से संपर्क के स्थान पर, सांसारिकता की धूल लग जाती है। उन्हें उस सांसारिकता की धूल से साफ होने के लिए आवश्यक है कि वे समय-समय पर प्रभु यीशु को उन्हें साफ करने दें “...यदि मैं तुझे न धोऊं, तो मेरे साथ तेरा कुछ भी साझा नहीं।”
ठीक से उनकी सफाई किए जाने के लिए यह आवश्यक था कि वे बारंबार प्रभु यीशु के पास इसके लिए आते रहें। प्रभु उनकी सफाई करने का अनिच्छुक नहीं था, वरन वह तो इच्छुक है, प्रतीक्षा में है और चाहता है कि उसके लोग उसके पास आएं, उनमें विद्यमान सांसारिकता की धूल, पाप का अंगीकार करें, और प्रभु को उन्हें साफ कर लेने तथा योग्य बना लेने दें। इसीलिए, जब तक कि प्रभु की मेज में भाग लेने वाला हमेशा ही भाग लेने से पहले अपने को जाँचते हुए, पापों को मानते और उनके लिए पश्चाताप करके परमेश्वर से उनके लिए क्षमा प्राप्त नहीं कर लेता है, तब तक वह कभी भी योग्य रीत से प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग नहीं लेने पाएगा। भाग लेने से पहले सभी को यह करना है, क्योंकि सभी के जीवनों में कोई न कोई पाप अवश्य होता है, जो उन्हें अयोग्य बनाता है। लेकिन प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए इस तरीके के द्वारा, प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाया हुआ मसीही विश्वासी, हमेशा प्रभु भोज में भाग लेता रह सकता है, यदि उसके अन्दर भाग लेने की एक सच्ची और खरी लालसा है, कि वह उसकी आज्ञाकारिता के द्वारा, प्रभु यीशु को आदर दे, प्रभु द्वारा उसके प्रतिबद्ध शिष्यों को दिए गए निर्देशों का पालन करे।
अगले लेख में हम इस पद से और आगे सीखेंगे, और देखेंगे कि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना क्यों वैकल्पिक नहीं है, शिष्यों की अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं, वरन उनके लिए अनिवार्य है। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Being Worthy to Participate
In the last two articles, we have seen from 1 Corinthians 11:27, what it means to participate in the Holy Communion in an unworthy manner and then in a worthy manner, respectively. Based on the word used in the original Greek language, translated “unworthily” or in an “unworthy manner”; any participation in a manner, or purpose, different from the one instituted by the Lord Jesus while establishing the Lord’s Table for His committed disciples, will be participating “unworthily” or in an “unworthy manner.” We had also seen in the last article that this does not mean that only those who are sinless and perfect can participate in the Holy Communion; for this will be an impossibility - even the disciples sitting with the Lord at the time of the initiation of the Holy Communion were not sinless or perfect. What it means is that the participants should be willing to acknowledge, confess, and repent of their sins before the Lord, and get the promised benefit of 1 John 1:7-10, particularly of verse 9 here, from God, and be made worthy of participating in the Holy Communion, instead of hiding their sins or persisting in them.
On this basis, the Holy Spirit, through Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11:28, gives the method of participating worthily in the Lord’s Table, even though the participant’s life initially may not be worthy of doing so. Remember, as we have seen earlier from 1 Corinthians 11:25-26, the participants in the Lord’s Table at the time of participation are remembering the Lord Jesus’s life and sacrifice for them, and through their participation, they are proclaiming His death. So, in effect, mentally and spiritually, they are in the presence of the Lord’s life, the purpose of His coming to earth, the reason of His sacrificing His life for them. Now, in this state, the participant should ask himself the question, “since the Lord out of His love and care for me, sacrificed His life, so that I can be delivered from sin, be eternally reconciled with God and be at peace with Him (Romans 5:1, 11), therefore, is there anything in my life that is offensive to God, is not pleasing to Him, is contrary to His Word, and is creating a barrier between God and myself (Isaiah 59:1-2) and hindering my spiritual life?” The Participant, before partaking in the Table, has to examine his own life, praying to God to show him the sins he has to acknowledge, confess, and seek forgiveness for. Then whatever God points out in his life, he should get it corrected from God on the basis of 1 John 1:9.
The simple fact of the matter is, that in his normal or usual state, no one is ever worthy of participating in the Lord’s Table, since as we see from 1 John 1:8, 10, everybody sins, including the Christian Believers and Lord’s disciples; and anyone claiming to have no sin, makes God a liar - an impossibility that by itself immediately nullifies their claim of being without sin. This was stated and well-illustrated by the Lord Jesus in His washing the feet of the disciples (John 13:4-15). As the Lord was doing this, when He came to Peter, Peter was not willing to have the Lord wash His feet. At that time the Lord said something very important in John 13:8 and 10, which is of great significance and relevance here. The Lord Jesus said to Peter that although he was “bathed and clean”, but still he needs to have his feet washed from time to time. While walking in the world, i.e., interacting with the world, Peter as well as everyone else would get the “dust” of the worldliness on their feet, i.e., their point of contact with the world. To cleanse them from the “dust of the world”, it was necessary for them to let the Lord Jesus Himself, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me", wash and cleanse them from time to time.
To have proper cleansing done, it was essential that time and again they had to keep coming to the Lord, for Him to cleanse them. The Lord is not averse to doing so, rather is willingly waiting and desirous that His people would come to Him, acknowledging the presence of their “dust”, i.e., their worldliness and sin, and allow Him to cleanse them from it, make them clean and worthy once again. Therefore, without the participant always examining, acknowledging, confessing, and seeking God’s forgiveness, no one can ever participate in the Holy Communion, because some sin or the other is always in everyone’s life, always rendering them unworthy of participation. But through this method given by the Lord Jesus, every Born-Again Christian Believer can always participate, provided he has a sincere and honest desire to honor the Lord by being obedient to the Lord’s instructions, given to His committed disciples.
In the next article we will learn further from this verse, and see why participating in the Communion cannot be optional and at the discretion of the Lord’s disciples. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
