भाग लेने का निष्कर्ष (1)

हम प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से संबंधित कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातों को देखते आ रहे हैं, और ये बातें प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वाले पर स्वतः ही लागू हो जाती हैं। इसलिए, जो प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते हैं, उन्हें इन बातों के प्रति सचेत रहना चाहिए, और प्रभु की मेज़ तथा उससे संबंधित बातों में प्रभु द्वारा स्थापित विधि से भाग न लेने, प्रभु के निर्देशों और चेतावनियों को गंभीरता से न लेने के लिए प्रभु को उत्तर देने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए। पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:16-22 में से प्रभु भोज से संबंधित बातों को देखते आ रहे हैं, और अब तक पद 20 तक देख चुके हैं, कि पवित्र आत्मा ने पौलुस के द्वारा मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए क्या कहा है। आज हम इस खण्ड में से पद 21-22 से देखना आरंभ करेंगे। इन पदों में, पौलुस में होकर, मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए निष्कर्ष प्रदान किया गया है; और यदि वे इन बातों को गंभीरता से नहीं लेते हैं, तो साथ ही गंभीर चेतावनी भी दी गई है। 

हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:21 में देखते हैं कि मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए एक स्पष्ट निष्कर्ष रखा गया है। यह न तो कोई सुझाव है, और न ही विश्वासी के चुन लेने के लिए कोई विकल्प दिए गए हैं, अथवा कोई चुनाव उनके सामने रखा गया है। यहाँ एक दृढ़ और अंतिम निष्कर्ष ही दिया गया है जिसे विश्वासी को लागू करना ही है। जो प्रभु परमेश्वर के लोग हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के द्वारा इसकी पुष्टि करते हैं, वे दुष्टात्माओं के कटोरे और मेज़ में सम्मिलित नहीं हो सकते हैं; उन्हें यह करना ही नहीं है। जैसा कि हम पहले देख चुके हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के द्वारा, भाग लेने वाला इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि वह प्रभु यीशु का एक समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध अनुयायी है, प्रभु के साथ निकट संबंध में रहता है, और प्रभु के साथ घनिष्ठ संपर्क बनाए रखता है। ठीक इसी प्रकार से, दुष्टात्माओं के कटोरे और मेज़ में भाग लेने से तात्पर्य है उनके साथ उनका अनुयायी बनकर निकट संबंध और संपर्क में बने रहना। इसलिए, जैसा कि हम पिछले लेख में दिए गए उदाहरणों से देख चुके हैं, वे विश्वासी जो संसार के साथ चलते हैं, संसार के समान व्यवहार करते हैं, ऐसा करने से वे यह दिखा रहे हैं कि वे प्रभु के साथ संगति में नहीं हैं, उसके साथ संबंध में बने हुए नहीं हैं। इसके लिए उन्हें हानिकारक परिणाम भुगतने पड़ेंगे, जैसा कि पद 22 में लिखा हुआ है - वे परमेश्वर को रिस दिलाते हैं, और अपने लिए परमेश्वर से दण्ड को निमंत्रण देते हैं। इस दुष्परिणाम के बारे में हम बाद में कुछ और विस्तार से देखेंगे। 

लेकिन यहाँ पर ध्यान देने योग्य एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण किन्तु अनकही बात भी है। यद्यपि उनके अनाज्ञाकारी होने के कारण वे परमेश्वर को रिस दिलाते हैं, किन्तु यह कहीं नहीं कहा गया है और न ही संकेत किया गया है कि उनकी अनाज्ञाकारिता तथा संसार के साथ समझौता कर लेने के कारण, वे परमेश्वर के लोग होने से हटा दिए जाएंगे, या परमेश्वर उन्हें त्याग देगा, या उन्हें उसे छोड़ कर संसार के साथ जीवन बिताने के लिए चले जाने देगा। जब तक कि हम इस बात को नहीं समझ लेंगे, हम परमेश्वर को रिस दिलाने और उसके अनुसार व्यवहार करने को नहीं समझने पाएंगे।

 

जो परमेश्वर के जन हैं, उसके परिवार का हिस्सा भी हैं, और उसकी अनमोल संपत्ति भी हैं। वह संसार के साथ समझौता करने के लिए, और विश्वास में बने रहने की बजाए शैतान के प्रलोभनों में गिर जाने के लिए अवश्य ही उनकी ताड़ना करेगा - यदि आवश्यक हुआ तो बहुत तीव्र ताड़ना भी करेगा, जैसा हम पहले देख चुके हैं, किन्तु कभी भी किसी को भी, उन्हें उससे दूर नहीं ले जाने देगा। एक बार जो परमेश्वर की संतान बन गया, उसकी देह का अंग बन गया, वह हमेशा, अनन्तकाल के लिए परमेश्वर की संतान और उसकी देह का अंग है। यद्यपि बाइबल इस बात के लिए बहुत स्पष्ट है, और कहीं पर भी ऐसा कोई उदाहरण नहीं दिया गया है कि किसी ने भी कभी भी अपने दुराचारी जीवन के कारण अपने उद्धार को खोया हो, लेकिन फिर भी शैतान ने बहुत से लोगों के मनों में यह बात बहुत दृढ़ता से बैठा दी है कि यदि भले कर्मों से सुरक्षित न रखा जाए, तो उद्धार खोया जा सकता है। बाइबल का तथ्य तो यही है कि उद्धार पाया हुआ व्यक्ति ताड़ना पा सकता है, और पाएगा भी, और स्वर्ग में छूछे हाथ भी प्रवेश करेगा, किन्तु उद्धार कभी नहीं खोएगा। 

अनाज्ञाकारिता के कारण उद्धार खोने के इस तर्क का एक और पहलू भी है; ऐसा, जो परमेश्वर के आधारभूत गुणों पर प्रहार करता है - उसके सर्वज्ञानी, अर्थात आदि से अंत के बारे में जानने (यशायाह 14:24; 46:10); और सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वर (यूहन्ना 10:28-29) होने पर। यदि किसी का उद्धार उसके व्यवहार के कारण खो सकता है, तो इसका तात्पर्य हुआ कि परमेश्वर ने जब उसे उद्धार दिया, उसके पश्चाताप करने, प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास करने, क्षमा माँगने को स्वीकार किया, तब परमेश्वर या तो जानता नहीं था, या फिर जान नहीं सकता था कि कुछ समय के बाद यह व्यक्ति उससे विमुख होकर चला जाएगा। इसलिए फिर वह अपने दावे के अनुरूप, सर्वज्ञानी परमेश्वर कैसे हो सकता है?दूसरी बात, यदि शैतान फुसलाने, प्रलोभन देने, दराने-धमकाने, झपटा मारकर छीन लेने, या किसी भी अन्य तरीके से किसी को परमेश्वर के हाथों में से निकाल कर ले जा सकता है, और परमेश्वर इस बारे में कुछ नहीं करने पाता है (मत्ती 12:29), तब तो फिर शैतान परमेश्वर से अधिक शक्तिशाली, चतुर, और सामर्थी है, और परमेश्वर फिर सर्वशक्तिमान नहीं है। लेकिन बाइबल का तथ्य है कि परमेश्वर शैतान को भी कुछ बातों को करने की अनुमति दे देता है (निर्गमन 9:16; रोमियों 9:17, 22) और फिर उन बातों के द्वारा अपने बच्चों के लिए कुछ भला करता है (रोमियों 8:28), जैसा कि अय्यूब के जीवन से भली भांति चित्रित किया गया है (अय्यूब 42:12; याकूब 5:11)। किन्तु जो परमेश्वर और उसके वचन को हल्के में लेते हैं, वे हल्के में बचने नहीं पाएंगे, उन्हें एक भारी कीमत चुकानी पड़ेगी, और कुछ तो छूछे हाथ ही अनन्तकाल में प्रवेश करेंगे (1 कुरिन्थियों 3:13-15)।

 

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

  

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

The Conclusion of Participation (1)

 

We have been seeing some important things that are related to the participation in the Holy Communion, and they automatically become applicable to the life of everyone who participates in the Lord’s Table. Therefore, those who take part in the Holy Communion need to be alert to this fact, be prepared for answering to the Lord God for not observing the Lord’s Table and its associated things in the manner prescribed by the Lord God, and not taking the Lord’s admonitions about it seriously. In the past few articles we have been seeing these things from 1 Corinthians 10:16-22, have considered up to verse 20 so far, and have seen the things the Holy Spirit had Paul write down for the Christian Believers, related to their participating in the Holy Communion. Today we come to verses 21-22 of this passage. In these verses, through Paul, is given to the Christian Believers the conclusion of the matter, and a serious warning of the consequences if this admonition is not taken seriously.

We see in 1 Corinthians 10:21, a clear conclusion is put forth for the Christian Believers. It is neither a suggestion, nor any options or choices are presented, for the Believer to choose from. It is a firm, final conclusion that the Believer has to implement. Those who are the people of God, and affirm it by partaking of the Lord’s Table, cannot partake in the cup and table of demons; they are not to do it. As we have seen earlier, the partaking in the Lord’s Table is an affirmation of the participant being a committed and submitted follower of the Lord Jesus, his being in close fellowship, and maintaining an intimate relationship with the Lord. In just the same way, the implication of partaking the cup and table of demons is that the person is their follower, and stays in close fellowship with them, maintains a relationship with them. Therefore, as we seen from the various examples considered in the last article, those Believers who walk with the world and live by the ways of the world, by doing so acknowledge that they are not in fellowship with the Lord, are not maintaining a relationship with Him; they will suffer the deleterious consequences. As it says in verse 22, this then has a serious consequence for them - they provoke the Lord to jealousy, and invite trouble upon themselves from the Lord God. We will see more about this consequence subsequently.

But notice an unstated but implied thing of great importance here. Though their being disobedient to the Lord provokes Him to jealousy, but nowhere does He say or imply, that because of their disobeying Him, and compromising with the world, they will cease to be His people, or that He will abandon them, or even that He will allow them to walk away from Him and live with the world. Unless we understand this, we cannot understand why the Lord will be provoked to jealousy and act accordingly.

Those who are God’s people, His children, His family, are also His precious possession. He is very possessive about them. He will chasten them for their being wayward, for compromising with the world, and succumbing to the temptations brought by the devil instead of standing firm in faith, and if it is required, He will even chasten severely - as we have already seen; but will never let anyone take them away from Him. Once a child of God, once a part of His body, always, for eternity a child of God and a member of His body. Although the Bible is very clear about it, and there are no examples of anyone ever loosing their salvation because of their wayward life, but still, Satan has put this misconception very firmly into many people’s minds that salvation can be lost if it is not maintained by good works. The Biblical fact is that the saved person can be, and will be chastened, and enter heaven without any rewards because of his wayward life, but he will never loose his salvation.

There is another aspect to this argument about loosing salvation because of disobedience to God; one that hits at the basic characteristics of God - His being omniscient, knowing the end from the beginning (Isaiah 14:24; 46:10), and His being the omnipotent God (John 10:28-29). If salvation can be lost because of the saved person’s behavior, then it implies that God when saving him, accepting his repentance, coming to faith in the Lord Jesus, and plea for forgiveness, either did not or could not know that in the days to come, this person will walk away from Him. So, He cannot be the omniscient God that he claims to be. Secondly, if Satan can entice, tempt, threaten, snatch, or in any other way, take away anyone out of God’s hands while God remains powerless or unable to do anything about it (Matthew 12:29), then Satan is stronger, or wiser, or more potent than God, and God is not omnipotent. But the Biblical fact is that God permits Satan to do certain things (Exodus 9:16; Romans 9:17, 22) and eventually even through those things works out good for His children (Romans 8:28), as is well illustrated by the life of Job (Job 42:12; James 5:11). But those who take the Lord and His Word lightly, will not escape lightly, they will have a price to pay, and some will even enter eternity empty-handed (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से संबंधित कुछ महत्वपूर्ण बातों का अध्ययन करते समय, हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:16-22 से देख रहे हैं कि भाग लेने वाले पर दो अभिप्राय और एक ज़िम्मेदारी लागू हो जाते हैं। अभिप्राय हैं कि वह इसकी पुष्टि करता तथा दोहराता है कि वह, पहला, प्रभु के साथ निकट संबंध में रहता है, और, दूसरा, वह अन्य मसीही विश्वासियों के साथ एकता में बना रहता है। उस पर लागू ज़िम्मेदारी है कि उसे संसार और संसार के तौर-तरीकों से, विशेषकर परमेश्वर की उपासना से संबंधित बातों को लेकर, एक अलगाव का जीवन जीना है। पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:19-20 से, मसीही विश्वासियों की इस अलगाव के जीवन की ज़िम्मेदारी से संबंधित कुछ बातों को देखा था। आज हम कुछ और बातों को देखेंगे, जो संसार से उसके इस अनिवार्य अलगाव से संबंधित हैं और परमेश्वर के लोगों की ज़िम्मेदारी हैं।

इसी प्रकार से पौलुस ने पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखते हुए 2 कुरिन्थियों 6:14-18 में मसीही विश्वासी के अविश्वासियों से अलग रहने पर बहुत ज़ोर दिया है; और यहाँ पद 17-18 में वह बल देकर कहता है कि विश्वासियों के अविश्वासियों में से निकल आने और अलग होकर रहने से ही परमेश्वर उन्हें स्वीकार करेगा, उनके लिए पिता समान होगा, और उनसे अपने पुत्र और पुत्रियों के समान व्यवहार करेगा। यह खण्ड दिखाता है कि पौलुस, बल्कि पवित्र आत्मा, मसीही विश्वासियों से कह रहा है कि जब तक मसीही विश्वासी अपने आप को संसार और उसकी बातों से अलग नहीं कर लेता है, तब तक वह कभी भी अपने स्वर्गीय पिता की देखभाल, उनके लिए तैयार विशेषाधिकारों, और आशीषों को अनुभव नहीं कर सकता है। उड़ाऊ पुत्र को अपने आप को बाहर की गंदगी से अलग करके पिता के पास आना ही था, तब ही वह पिता के प्रेम के आनन्द को अनुभव करने पाया। परमेश्वर पिता इस प्रतीक्षा में है कि मसीही विश्वासी इस बात को समझें, इसका एहसास करें, और अपने मसीही जीवन के लिए इस अनिवार्यता पर कार्यवाही करें। सामान्य प्रवृत्ति यही होती है कि विश्वासी यही चाहता है कि परमेश्वर उसे हर प्रकार से आशीषित करे, परंतु उस विश्वासी को इन स्वर्गीय आशीषों और विशेषाधिकारों के लिए कोई कीमत न चुकानी पड़े। लोग दोनों ओर से मुफ़्त में सभी बातों का आनंद लेना चाहते हैं, अर्थात, संसार और उसकी बातों का आनन्द भी लेते रहें, और उन्हें परमेश्वर की देखभाल और सुरक्षा भी उपलब्ध रहे। सामान्यतः लोग इस बात को समझने और मानने के लिए तैयार नहीं होते हैं कि उन्हें संसार अथवा परमेश्वर में से किसी एक को चुनना ही होगा; उन्हें दोनों ही नहीं मिल सकते हैं, जैसा कि अगले दो उदाहरणों से भी प्रकट है।

संसार के साथ मिलकर रहना, मसीही विश्वासी के लिए कितना हानिकारक हो सकता है, इसका अंदाजा हम पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा याकूब से लिखवाई बात से पता चलता है। मसीही विश्वासियों को लिखी अपनी पत्री में याकूब 4:1-4 को देखिए, और विशेषकर पद 4 पर ध्यान कीजिए, जहाँ लिखा है, “हे व्यभिचारिणयों, क्या तुम नहीं जानतीं, कि संसार से मित्रता करनी परमेश्वर से बैर करना है सो जो कोई संसार का मित्र होना चाहता है, वह अपने आप को परमेश्वर का बैरी बनाता है।” यहाँ जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “बैरी” किया गया है, मूल यूनानी भाषा में उसका अर्थ है घिनौना, अर्थात, अरुचिकर। दूसरे शब्दों में, जो विश्वासी संसार के साथ मित्रता चाहता है और उससे संबंध में बना रहता है, यह करने के द्वारा वह अपने लिए इस बात को निश्चित कर लेता है कि परमेश्वर उसमें रुचि न ले।

 

प्रेरित यूहन्ना के द्वारा, पवित्र आत्मा संसार से प्रेम करने और उसके साथ बने रहने के एक और पहलू को दिखाता है, “तुम न तो संसार से और न संसार में की वस्तुओं से प्रेम रखो: यदि कोई संसार से प्रेम रखता है, तो उस में पिता का प्रेम नहीं है” (1 यूहन्ना 2:15)। यह वही बात है जिसे प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने अपने पहाड़ी संदेश में, मत्ती 6:24 में कहा था, “कोई मनुष्य दो स्वामियों की सेवा नहीं कर सकता, क्योंकि वह एक से बैर ओर दूसरे से प्रेम रखेगा, वा एक से मिला रहेगा और दूसरे को तुच्छ जानेगा; तुम परमेश्वर और धन दोनों की सेवा नहीं कर सकते।” जो संसार और सांसारिक बातों के प्रेम में बने ही रहते हैं, वे अप्रत्यक्ष रीति से इस बात का अंगीकार कर रहे हैं और दर्शा रहे हैं कि वे प्रभु परमेश्वर से प्रेम नहीं करते हैं।

 

इनके अतिरिक्त भी नए नियम के अन्य उदाहरण हैं, तथा पुराने नियम में भी और बहुत से उदाहरण हैं जो दिखाते हैं कि परमेश्वर हमेशा ही यही चाहता रहा है कि उसके लोग संसार से अलगाव का जीवन जीएं; और यदि वे ऐसा नहीं करते हैं, तो उनके जीवनों में कैसे हानिकारक प्रभाव आ जाते हैं। कुल मिलाकर निष्कर्ष यही है कि संसार से अलगाव का जीवन जीना मसीही विश्वासी का एक महत्वपूर्ण गुण है। प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के द्वारा वह इस ज़िम्मेदारी को अपने ऊपर ले लेता है कि वह प्रभु से तो जुड़ा हुआ परंतु संसार से अलग होकर रहेगा। यह मसीही विश्वासी के हित की बात है कि वह ऐसा करे; क्योंकि परमेश्वर के निर्देशों की अनदेखी करना, अनाज्ञाकारिता करना, मुसीबत को दावत देना है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 5:29; 30:15-20)।

  

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

  

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Responsibility Because of Participation (2)

 

While studying some important things related to participating in the Lord’s Table, we have been seeing from 1 Corinthians 10:16-22, that there are two implications and one responsibility that become incumbent upon the participant. The implications are  that he affirms and renews that, one, he is living in close fellowship with the Lord, and second, that he lives in unity with the Christian Believers. The responsibility binding upon him because of partaking of the Lord’s Table is that he has to live separated from the world, and the ways of the world, particularly about things related to God’s worship. We had seen some aspects about this responsibility of staying separated, in the previous article from 1 Corinthians 10:19-20. Today we will look at some other aspects of this essential separation from the world, that are the responsibility of the people of God.

In Acts 2, after Peter’s preaching with the power of the Holy Spirit, when of the devout Jews gathered in Jerusalem, 3000 repented and asked the disciples what should they do next, Peter tells them the steps they need to take (Acts 2:37-40). Here, in verse 40 Peter says to them, “And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation” - through many words he asked them to save themselves, i.e., to separate themselves from the perverse generation they were living amongst. The very fact that Peter used “many words” to explain and inform about this, and ”exhorted” them about it, indicates the importance of this for Christian Faith and living, from the very moment of a person coming to faith in Christ Jesus and submitting his life to Him. Also note that Peter does not say to them that God will do this for them in the days to come. But he puts the responsibility upon them to take this step, and this serves as a practical lesson of living by 2 Corinthians 5:15 for the Christian Believers.

Similarly, Paul, writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 strongly emphasizes the necessity of this separation between the Believers and the unbelievers; and in verses 17-18 emphasizes that it will be through their coming out and being separate from the unbelievers that God will accept them, will be a Father to them, and treat them as His son’s and daughters. This passage is tantamount to Paul, rather the Holy Spirit saying that unless the Christian Believer separates himself from the world and its ways, he can never experience the care, privileges, and blessings of his heavenly Father. The Prodigal Son had to separate himself from the filth outside and return to his father to be able to experience and enjoy the love of the father. God the Father is waiting for them to understand, realize, and act on this necessity for their Christian life. The normal tendency is to expect God to bless the Believer in every way possible, but without the Believer having to pay any price for the heavenly blessings and privileges. People want to have best of both worlds freely, i.e., enjoy the pleasures and ways of the world, as well as have God’s care and protection. People are usually not willing to realize and accept that they will have to choose between the world and God; they cannot have them both, as is evident from the next two examples.

How damaging this living with the world can be for the Christian Believer can be gauged by what the Holy Spirit says through James. In his letter to the Believers from James 4:1-4, particularly take note of verse 4, “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” The word translated as “enemy” in English, in the original Greek language means being odious, i.e., repulsive to God. In other words, the Believer who desires and lives as a friend of the world, by doing so also ensures that God does not look towards him favorably.

Through the Apostle John, the Holy Spirit presents another aspect of loving the world, and living with it, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). This is the same as what the Lord Jesus had said in His Sermon of the Mount, in Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Those who persist in the love of the world and of worldly things, are indirectly acknowledging and demonstrating that they do not love the Lord God.

Besides other examples in the New Testament, in the Old Testament too, there are many more instances and examples of God asking His people to stay away from the world, and of the harmful effects in their lives because of their not doing so. The net conclusion is that separation from the world is an important characteristic of the Christian Believer. By participating in the Holy Communion, he takes upon himself this responsibility of staying joined to the Lord and away from the world. It is to the Christian Believer’s advantage that he does so; because disregarding God’s instructions is an invitation to trouble (Deuteronomy 5:29; 30:15-20).

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले कुछ लेखों से हम प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से संबंधित बातों को देखते आ रहे हैं, और अब हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:16-22 से कुछ बातों को देख रहे हैं। हम इस खण्ड से देख चुके हैं कि न केवल यह परमेश्वर की आशा है कि उसके प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाले, संसार के लोगों से भिन्न रीति से जीवन जीएंगे और व्यवहार करेंगे; बल्कि परमेश्वर का वचन उनके लिए ऐसा करना अनिवार्य बताता है। यह खण्ड दिखाता है कि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वाले के लिए इस भाग लेने के दो अभिप्राय और एक ज़िम्मेदारी है। दो अभिप्राय यह हैं कि भाग लेने वाला प्रभु के साथ निरंतर सहभागिता में अर्थात निकट संगति में बना रहेगा, तथा अन्य विश्वासियों के साथ एकता में रहेगा। पिछले लेखों में हम इन दोनों अभिप्रायों को देख चुके हैं, और इस बात का ध्यान किया था कि प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के द्वारा, भाग लेने वाला इन बातों की पुष्टि करता है, इन्हें दोहराता है कि वह प्रभु के साथ निकट संगति में रहने तथा अन्य विश्वासियों के साथ एकता में रहने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है। मसीही विश्वासी के लिए संसार से पृथक होकर रहने की ज़िम्मेदारी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है, और इस ज़िम्मेदारी का निर्वाह न करने के परिणाम बहुत हानिकारक हैं। परंतु जैसे कि उपरोक्त अभिप्रायों को मण्डलियों में शायद ही कभी बताया और सिखाया जाता है, उसी प्रकार से, इस ज़िम्मेदारी और उसके निर्वाह के बारे में भी शायद ही कभी बताया और सिखाया जाता है। इसका मुख्य कारण यही है कि अधिकांश ईसाई या मसीही, यहाँ तक कि विश्वासी भी, प्रभु की मेज़ को एक रीति के समान लेते हैं, और उसमें भाग लेने से संबंधित बातों के बारे में या तो अनभिज्ञ हैं अथवा भाग लेने वाले के लिए मेज़ से संबंधित बातों और उनके अभिप्रायों के बारे में गंभीर नहीं हैं।

आगे बढ़ने से पहले एक निवेदन है - बेहतर समझने के लिए कृपया 1 कुरिन्थियों 8 अध्याय पढ़ लीजिए। इसकी ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि यह है कि मूर्तियों को बलि चढ़ाए गए पशुओं को लोगों द्वारा भोजन के समान उपयोग करने के लिए लाया जाता था, और जन-सामान्य उन्हें उस देवी या देवता के प्रति अपनी श्रद्धा दिखाने के लिए भोजन के रूप में उपयोग करते थे। इस प्रकार से अप्रत्यक्ष रीति से वे न केवल उस देवी या देवता के अस्तित्व का अंगीकार करते थे वरन साथ ही उस देवी या देवता के साथ जुड़ी हुई जो भी शक्तियाँ मानी जाती थीं, उन्हें भी स्वीकार करते थे। किन्तु मसीही विश्वासी उसे केवल एक भोजन वस्तु के समान लेते थे, किसी देवी या देवता के प्रति श्रद्धा दिखने या उसकी शक्ति को मानने के लिए नहीं। किन्तु इससे कुछ नए मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए समस्या उत्पन्न होने लगी थी। ये नए विश्वासी समझने लगे थे कि बलि किए हुए पशु को खाने का तात्पर्य था कि वरिष्ठ मसीही विश्वासी भी उन देवी-देवताओं को तथा उनकी शक्तियों कुछ महत्व और अस्तित्व प्रदान कर रहे हैं, और इस कारण ये नए विश्वासी, दोनों - प्रभु यीशु तथा किसी देवी या देवता को आदर देने के द्वारा, अनजाने में, न चाहते हुए भी, मूर्ति पूजा, तथा एक से अधिक ईश्वरों की उपासना में फंस रहे थे। इसीलिए पौलुस 8 अध्याय का अंत इस घोषणा के साथ करता है कि “इस कारण यदि भोजन मेरे भाई को ठोकर खिलाए, तो मैं कभी किसी रीति से मांस न खाऊंगा, न हो कि मैं अपने भाई के ठोकर का कारण बनूं” (1 कुरिन्थियों 8:13)। पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में पौलुस 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:19-20 में, मूर्तियों को बलि चढ़ाई हुई वस्तुओं में भाग लेने के अभिप्रायों को समझाने के द्वारा, मसीही विश्वासी की ज़िम्मेदारी को बताता है, कि वह संसार और उपासना के सांसारिक तरीकों से अलग रहे। और यह बात परमेश्वर अपने लोगों, इस्राएलियों, को बहुत पहले ही बता चुका था (व्यवस्थाविवरण 12:1-4, 29-32)।

यह निर्देश देने और समझाने के द्वारा, पौलुस यहाँ पर मूर्तियों और गैर-मसीही देवी-देवताओं को चढ़ाई हुई भोजन वस्तुओं को खाने के बारे में एक और बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात सामने लेकर आता है। संभवतः वो मसीही विश्वासी या तो अभी तक इस बात से अनभिज्ञ थे, या उन्होंने इस पर कभी गंभीरता से विचार नहीं किया था। पौलुस पद 19 में, आलंकारिक प्रश्नों को पूछने के द्वारा, मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए किसी मूर्ति या देवी-देवता के अस्तित्व और महत्व के होने, या उसे चढ़ाए हुए किसी बलिदान का कोई महत्व होने के विषय किसी भी गलत धारणा को नकारने के साथ बात आरंभ करता है। फिर वह अपनी मुख्य बात पर आता है, कि वे देवी-देवता, जिनका प्रतीक वे मूर्तियाँ थीं, ईश्वर नहीं दुष्टात्माएँ हैं। इसलिए उन देवी-देवताओं को चढ़े गए बलिदान ईश्वर को नहीं दुष्टात्माओं को चढ़ाए गए हैं। और फिर पद 18 में कही गई अपनी बात के आधार पर वह समझाता है कि जिस प्रकार इस्राएल के बलिदानों में भाग लेने वाले परमेश्वर की वेदी के भी भागीदार होते थे, उसी प्रकार, मूर्तियों या उन देवी-देवताओं, अर्थात दुष्टात्माओं को चढ़ाए गए बलिदानों में भाग लेने वाले भी स्वतः ही अपने आप को दुष्टात्माओं के साथ सहभागी कर लेते हैं। और पौलुस, जो उनका शिक्षक और आत्मिक मार्गदर्शक था, नहीं चाहता था कि वे किसी भी प्रकार से इस अपवित्र संबंध में जुड़ें। मसीही विश्वासियों को, अपने आप को दुष्टात्माओं की उपासना से संबंधित अथवा प्रभावित और दूषित किसी भी बात से बिल्कुल पृथक रखना है। क्योंकि पौलुस ने यह पत्री पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में लिखी है, पौलुस द्वारा मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए किसी बात का न चाहना, परमेश्वर द्वारा उनके लिए उस बात के न चाहने के तुल्य है।

एक प्रकार से यह उसी बात को चित्रित करता और उसकी पुष्टि करता है जो हाग्गै 2:11-14 में कही गई है, कि किस प्रकार किसी अशुद्ध वस्तु के साथ संपर्क में आने से अशुद्ध शुद्ध नहीं हो जाता है, बल्कि शुद्ध ही अशुद्ध होता है। इसी बात को पौलुस ने भी इसी पत्री में थोड़ा और आगे कहा है, “धोखा न खाना, बुरी संगति अच्छे चरित्र को बिगाड़ देती है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 15:33)। यह हमें दिखाता है कि कैसे शैतान सीधी, सरल और महत्वहीन दिखने वाली बातों के द्वारा भी बहका देता है, हमें लगता है कि हम विश्वास में स्थिर और दृढ़ खड़े हैं, और इस पर घमण्ड भी करते हैं, किन्तु शैतान हमें बहका कर हमसे परमेश्वर के प्रतिकूल करवा रहा होता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 10:12)। इसी लिए प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को बहुत चौकन्ना होकर, और बहुत जाँच-परख कर कुछ भी करने वाला होना चाहिए, विशेषकर जब बात किसी भी रीति से किसी अन्य-जाति उपासना या मूर्ति पूजा से संबंधित होती है। परमेश्वर ने इसके विषय इस्राएलियों को पहले ही चिता दिया था, जब उन्हें मिस्र के दासत्व से छुड़ाकर लाया था, कि वे किसी भी रीति से अन्य-जातियों के साथ संबंध न रखें, विशेषकर वैवाहिक संबंध तो कदापि नहीं (निर्गमन 34:12-16)। इस्राएल का इससे आगे का इतिहास इस बात का चित्रण और प्रमाण है कि जब भी उन्होंने परमेश्वर के इस निर्देश की अवहेलना की, वे हमेशा ही अनेकों प्रकार से गंभीर समस्याओं में पड़ गए। समझदारी और सुरक्षा हमेशा ही अन्य-जातियों की उपासना और मूर्तिपूजा से बचकर और अलग रहने में ही है, नहीं तो हम भी अपने विश्वास के साथ समझौता कर बैठने की स्थिति में आ सकते हैं। अगले लेख में हम मसीही विश्वासियों द्वारा अपने आप को संसार और सांसारिक उपासना के तरीकों से अलग रखने के कुछ और उदाहरणों और निर्देशों के बारे में देखेंगे।

Responsibility Because of Participation (1)

 

For the past few articles, we have been considering some matters related to participation in the Lord’s Table, and have now been looking at this from 1 Corinthians 10:16-22. We have seen from this passage that not only does God expect that the participants in His Holy Communion will live life and behave differently than the people of the world; but God’s Word states this is mandatory for them. This passage shows that for those who partake of the Lord’s Table, doing so has two implications and one responsibility. The implications are that the participant lives a life of continual communion or close fellowship with the Lord, and of unity with the other participants; and one responsibility is of the participant lives a life of separation from the world. We have considered both the implications in the previous articles, and noted that through participation in the Holy Communion, the participants affirm and renew their commitment of remaining in, and living in close fellowship with the Lord Jesus, and of living in unity with the other Believers. The responsibility of living a life of separation from the world is of great importance for the Christian Believer, and not fulfilling it has grave consequences. But just as the implications are hardly, if ever, told and taught to the congregation, similarly emphasizing the responsibility and its fulfillment too are usually neglected. The main reason is because most Christians, even Believers, take the Lord’s Table like a ritual, and are either unaware or not serious about what participating in it means and implies for the participant.

       Before we proceed further, a request – please read 1 Corinthians chapter 8 here, for a better understanding. The historical background here is that the animals sacrificed to idols were made available for consumption by the public, and the public ate them as an act of reverence towards the deity, thereby tacitly not only acknowledging its existence but also accepting whatever powers were believed to be associated with that deity. But the Christian Believer’s were taking and eating that meat, not in reverence to the deity, but merely as a food item. But this was causing some problems for the new Believers. These new Believers assumed that eating that meat of the sacrifice, implied that the senior Believers were giving some recognition and weightage to the Pagan deities, and thus the neophytes were inadvertently, indirectly falling into the trap of polytheism and idol worship, by honoring both, the Lord Jesus as well as the Pagan deities. Therefore, Paul concludes chapter 8 with the declaration that “Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble” (1 Corinthians 8:13). In 1 Corinthians 10:19-20, Paul, through the Holy Spirit, states the responsibility of the Christian Believer, of staying separate from the world and its ways of worship, by explaining the implications of their partaking in things sacrificed to idols. God had already forbidden His people, the Israelites to fall for this tendency of worshipping like the Gentiles worship their deities, much earlier (Deuteronomy 12:1-4, 29-32).

In explaining and instructing in this manner, Paul here brings up another very important aspect of eating the food items that had been sacrificed to idols and non-Christian deities. Probably those Christian Believers were still not aware of this point, or had not considered it seriously enough. Paul, using rhetorical questions, starts with a clarification in verse 19, negating any possible misconceptions the Believers may have about the importance of an idol or anything sacrificed to it having any bearing on their lives. Then, he comes to his main point, the deities physically represented by those idols, are demons, not God. Therefore, the sacrifices made to those deities are made not to God but to demons. Drawing upon his earlier statement of verse 18, he explains his point, that just as the partakers of Israel’s sacrifices are also automatically partakers of the altar of God; similarly, the partakers of these sacrifices to the idols, i.e., to demons, automatically bring themselves into fellowship with demons. And Paul, as their mentor, their spiritual guide, does not want them to get into this unholy alliance, even inadvertently. They, the Christian Believers, have to keep themselves aloof from anything tainted by any demonic worship or influence. Since Paul is writing this letter under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Paul’s not wanting the Christian Believers to do a thing is tantamount to actually God not wanting them to do it.

This, in a way, serves to illustrate the point made in Haggai 2:11-14, how coming in contact with unholy things defiles the holy, and not vice-versa; i.e., the holy does not make the unholy holy, but the holy becomes unholy. This same thing is stated by Paul in this very letter a little later, in 1 Corinthians 15:33, “Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits.” This shows how Satan tricks us through seemingly simple, straightforward and inconsequential activities, and while we may think and even take pride in standing firm in our faith, Satan has actually tricked us into acting contrary to God (1 Corinthians 10:12). Therefore, a Christian Believer needs to be very wary, very discerning about whatever he does, especially when it comes to coming in any contact with Pagan worship in any manner. God had warned the Israelites about this soon after bringing them out of Egypt, while they were on their way to Canaan, to not mingle with the Gentiles, and not to make any matrimonial alliances with them (Exodus 34:12-16). The subsequent history of Israel amply demonstrates that by disregarding this instruction from God, they always fell into serious trouble in more ways than one. The safe thing is to always avoid and stay away from anything related to or involving Pagan worship, lest we be misled and inadvertently end up compromising our Faith. We will look into some other examples and instructions about the responsibility of the Believers to keep themselves separate from the world, particularly anything related to worldly ways of worship, in the next article.

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
