बपतिस्मा या बपतिस्मे?

पिछले लेख में हमने इफिसियों 4:5 से देखा था कि वचन में स्पष्ट लिखा है कि बपतिस्मा एक ही है; एक से अधिक नहीं। इस बात में विरोधाभास और फिर असमंजस तब ही उठता है जब बाइबल के बाहर की “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” की धारणा को सही स्वीकार कर लिया जाए। अर्थात, प्रभु यीशु की आज्ञा के अनुसार पानी से दिए जाने वाले बपतिस्मे के अतिरिक्त एक अन्य बपतिस्मा, जो तथाकथित पवित्र आत्मा के कहे के अनुसार या पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से है, को भी स्वीकार किया जाए। और हम यह देख चुके हैं कि ऐसा होना बाइबल की किसी भी बात के साथ मेल नहीं खाता है। किन्तु फिर भी, अपनी इस गलत धारणा को सही ठहराने के लिए यह गलत शिक्षा देने वाले लोग एक अन्य पद का दुरुपयोग करते हैं, उसकी गलत व्याख्या करके अपने तर्क को सही ठहराने का प्रयास करते हैं, क्योंकि वहाँ पर एक-वचन “बपतिस्मा” नहीं, वरन बहु-वचन “बपतिस्मे” लिखा हुआ है। आज हम इसी पद का विश्लेषण और व्याख्या करेंगे, और देखेंगे कि बाइबल की व्याख्या के मूल सिद्धांतों के आधार पर जब सही रीति से व्याख्या की जाती है तो यही सामने आता है कि परमेश्वर के वचन में कोई विरोधाभास, कोई त्रुटि या दोगलापन नहीं है; जबकि इन गलत शिक्षाओं को देने वाले लोगों की बातों के कारण परमेश्वर के वचन में ये प्रतीत होने वाले विरोधाभास और समझने में गलतियाँ उत्पन्न होने लगती हैं।

बपतिस्मा मसीही विश्वास की एक मूल शिक्षा है। इब्रानियों 6:1-3 में इन मूल शिक्षाओं को सीखने के बारे में लिखा गया है; इस खंड में इब्रानियों 6:2 में लिखा है “और बपतिस्मों और हाथ रखने, और मरे हुओं के जी उठने, और अन्तिम न्याय की शिक्षा रूपी नेव, फिर से न डालें।” ध्यान कीजिए, बाइबल के पद में प्रयुक्त शब्द है “बपतिस्मों”, जो बहुवचन है, और एक से अधिक बपतिस्मे होने का स्पष्ट संकेत करता है; किन्तु यह भी ध्यान दीजिए कि बहुवचन प्रयोग बपतिस्मों से संबंधित शिक्षा रूपी नींव के लिए है, बपतिस्मा लिए या दिए जाने के संदर्भ में नहीं। इसी बहुवचन को आधार बनाकर, गलत धारणाओं और शिक्षाओं को देने वाले ये लोग, पानी से दिए गए बपतिस्मे के अतिरिक्त, पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा एक अन्य या पृथक बपतिस्मा होने को भी सही ठहराने का प्रयास करते हैं। किन्तु यदि इस पद का बाइबल की व्याख्या के मूल सिद्धांतों के अनुसार सही रीति से विश्लेषण किया जाए तो स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि उनकी यह शिक्षा भी गलत है, अनुचित है, और सही बातों को सही रीति से प्रयोग करने के द्वारा नहीं है।

 

इस पद, इब्रानियों 6:2 को उसके संदर्भ में, अर्थात उसके साथ के पदों के साथ देखिए। साथ ही यह भी ध्यान रखिए कि बाइबल की प्रत्येक अन्य पुस्तक के समान, इब्रानियों को लिखी गई यह पत्री भी, अपने मूल स्वरूप में एक संपूर्ण लेख थी, अध्यायों और पदों में विभाजित नहीं थी। बाइबल की प्रत्येक पुस्तक के लेखों को, उनके अध्ययन, हवाला देने, और स्मरण करने में सहायता के लिए, अध्यायों और पदों में बहुत बाद में विभाजित किया गया। यह विभाजन कृत्रिम है, इसलिए कभी-कभी असमंजस भी उत्पन्न करता है। इब्रानियों 6:2 के संदर्भ में, उसकी बात से संबंधित, उससे पहले के पदों को देखिए, विशेषकर इब्रानियों 5:12 “समय के विचार से तो तुम्हें गुरु हो जाना चाहिए था, तौभी क्या यह आवश्यक है, कि कोई तुम्हें परमेश्वर के वचनों की आदि शिक्षा फिर से सिखाए ओर ऐसे हो गए हो, कि तुम्हें अन्न के बदले अब तक दूध ही चाहिए”; और 6:1 “इसलिये आओ मसीह की शिक्षा की आरम्भ की बातों को छोड़ कर, हम सिद्धता की ओर आगे बढ़ते जाएं, और मरे हुए कामों से मन फिराने, और परमेश्वर पर विश्वास करने” को। ये दोनों पद हमें इब्रानियों 6:2 का संदर्भ समझते हैं कि इस खंड में “आदि शिक्षा” या “मसीह की शिक्षा की आरंभिक बातों” की बात हो रही है, जैसे कि 6:2 में भी बपतिस्मों से संबंधित शिक्षा ही की बात लिखी गई है; अर्थात अन्य बातों के विषय की शिक्षाओं के साथ बपतिस्मे की शिक्षाओं की बात हो रही है, जिन्हें मसीही विश्वासियों को जानना चाहिए। यह बपतिस्मा लेने या देने के बारे में नहीं है, वरन उससे संबंधित शिक्षाओं के बारे में है।

 

बपतिस्मे की शिक्षाओं के आधार पर वचन में तीन बपतिस्मे दिए गए हैं - यूहन्ना बपतिस्मा देने वाले का, मूसा का, और प्रभु यीशु तथा उसकी मृत्यु का: 

• प्रेरितों 18:25 “उसने प्रभु के मार्ग की शिक्षा पाई थी, और मन लगाकर यीशु के विषय में ठीक ठीक सुनाता, और सिखाता था, परन्तु वह केवल यूहन्ना के बपतिस्मा की बात जानता था।” 

• 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:2 “और सब ने बादल में, और समुद्र में, मूसा का बपतिस्मा लिया।” - शिक्षा के दृष्टिकोण से, पुराने नियम में बपतिस्मे का यह उदाहरण इस्राएलियों का लाल सागर में जाना, और उनका ऊपर बादल से ढाँपा तथा दोनों ओर विभाजित सागर के पानी की दीवारों का होना - उनका हर ओर से जल से ढँके हुए होना और फिर पार निकालना, यानि कि जल के अंदर जाना और बाहर आना था। 

•  रोमियों 6:3 “क्या तुम नहीं जानते, कि हम जितनों ने मसीह यीशु का बपतिस्मा लिया तो उस की मृत्यु का बपतिस्मा लिया।” 

किन्तु इन तीनों में बपतिस्मे का माध्यम एक ही है - पानी से बपतिस्मा देना, पानी में डुबकी या पानी के द्वारा चारों ओर से घेर दिए जाना। इसलिए बपतिस्मे से संबंधित शिक्षाओं के आधार पर क्योंकि एक से अधिक प्रकार के बपतिस्मे हुए; इसीलिए इब्रानियों 6:2, जो मसीह की मूल शिक्षाओं की बात कर रहा है, में बहुवचन “बपतिस्मों” का प्रयोग किया गया है। किन्तु इसका वचन की अन्य किसी भी बात के साथ कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है, क्योंकि तीनों ही रूप में एक ही माध्यम से और एक ही रीति से - पानी में डुबकी या पानी से घेरे जाने के द्वारा बपतिस्मा दिया गया। और इफिसियों 4:5 भी इसी एक बपतिस्मे की बात करता है। इफिसियों 4:5 व्यावहारिक बपतिस्मा लेने या देने की बात करता है, जबकि इब्रानियों 6:2 बपतिस्मे से संबंधित शिक्षाओं की बात करता है। दोनों ही एक-दूसरे के पूरक हैं, इनमें कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है, कोई गलती नहीं है। जो भी गलती है वह बात को उसके संदर्भ से बाहर लेकर एक गलत दृष्टिकोण के साथ उसका मेल बैठाने का प्रयास करने के कारण है।

इसलिए बपतिस्मा एक ही है, वह पानी से, उसमें डुबकी देने के द्वारा ही दिया गया है। बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुसार “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” की धारणा का कोई आधार नहीं है, यह धारणा गलत है, अस्वीकार्य है। अगले लेख में हम बपतिस्मे से संबंधित एक अन्य असमंजस की बात, “आग से बपतिस्मा” के बारे में देखेंगे।

 

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य हैं, पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Baptism or Baptisms?

In the previous article, from Ephesians 4:5 we saw that the Scriptures clearly state that there is only one baptism; not more. The confusion and contradiction about this number occurs only when the unBiblical concept of "baptism of the Holy Spirit" is accepted as correct. In other words, a baptism other than the water baptism commanded by the Lord Jesus is also accepted, as an extra one supposedly commanded by or by the authority of the Holy Spirit. And we have seen that this concept doesn't match up with anything in the Bible. But still, to justify this misconception, people who give this wrong teaching, misuse another verse, and try to justify their argument by misinterpreting that verse. They are able to misinterpret that verse and misguide people because there, instead of the singular "baptism", the plural word "baptisms" is written. Today we will analyze and interpret this verse, and see that actually there is no contradiction, no error or duplicity in the Word of God, when it is properly interpreted on the basis of the basic principles of Biblical interpretation. But due to the misinterpretations and wrong teachings of the people who believe and propagate these erroneous concepts, various misunderstandings, contradictions, and apparent errors are brought into the teachings from the Word of God.

 

Baptism is a basic or fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith. The necessity of a Christian Believer learning about these fundamental doctrines is stated in Hebrews 6:1-3, where, Hebrews 6:2 says "of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment." Note, that the word used in this verse is "baptisms," which is plural, and clearly indicates more than one baptism. But also note that here this plural usage refers to the foundational learning, or doctrine concerning baptisms. The plural usage is not in the context of being baptized. Based on this plural usage, the people propagating misconceptions and wrong teachings, try to justify the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a separate or different baptism, required in addition to water baptism. But if this verse is properly analyzed according to the basic tenets of Biblical interpretation as given earlier, it becomes clear that this alleged justification of "baptism of the Holy Spirit" is also wrong and inappropriate; it is not based upon using the correct use of Principles of Bible interpretation.

Please look at and study this verse, Hebrews 6:2, in its context, i.e., along with the verses preceding it. Also note that this Epistle to the Hebrews, like every other book in the Bible, in its original form, was a complete text, not divided into chapters and verses. The writings of each book of the Bible were later divided into chapters and verses to aid in their study, citation, and memorization. This division is artificial, hence sometimes causing confusion. Bearing this point in mind, for the context of Hebrews 6:2, particularly look at two preceding verses, i.e., Hebrews 5:12 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.” and Hebrews 6:1 "Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God." Both of these verses help us understand the context of Hebrews 6:2. We learn from Hebrews 6:1 that this passage is referring to the "basic principles" or "the elementary principles of Christ" that every Christian Believer ought to know; and amongst these basic principles, is the “doctrine of baptisms” that is mentioned in Hebrews 6:2. In other words, this verse is referring to the teachings related to baptism, along with the teachings related to other fundamental doctrinal topics topics written there, which the Christian Believers were expected to know. They are not referring to the taking or giving of baptism, but only to the doctrinal teachings related to it.

On the basis of doctrinal teachings of baptism, there are three baptisms mentioned in the Scriptures - of John the Baptist, of Moses, and of the Lord Jesus and his death:

• Acts 18:25 "This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John."

• 1 Corinthians 10:2 "all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea" - From a learning point of view, this example of baptism in the Old Testament is the Israelites going into the Red Sea, being covered by a cloud on top and walls of the divided sea on either side - their being covered with water on all sides; and then passing through, that is, going in and being covered with, and coming out of the water.

• Romans 6:3 “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?"

But the means of baptism is the same in all three - baptizing with water, immersing in water or being surrounded by water. So, there is more than one type of baptism in context of the doctrinal teachings about baptism; that's why the plural "baptisms" is used in Hebrews 6:2, referring to the elementary principles of Christ. But this causes no contradiction with anything else in the Scriptures, for all three are baptisms by the same means and in the same manner — by immersion i.e., by being covered with water. And Ephesians 4:5 too speaks of this same baptism. Ephesians 4:5 speaks of practical taking or giving of baptism; while Hebrews 6:2 speaks of doctrinal teachings related to baptism. Both these verses complement each other, but there is no contradiction, no mistake. Whatever the mistake is, it is because of trying to reconcile a wrong point of view with Biblical truth, and that too by taking it out of context to interpret and understand it.

Therefore, there is only one baptism, it is given by water, by immersion in it. According to the teachings of the Bible, the concept of "baptism of the Holy Spirit" has no basis, this concept is patently wrong, and absolutely unacceptable. In the next article, we will consider another confusion regarding baptism, about the “baptism by fire.”

If you are a Christian Believer, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a Born-Again disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. Whoever may be the preacher or teacher, but you should always, like the Berean Believers, first cross-check and test all teachings that you receive, from the Word of God. Only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेखों में बपतिस्मे से संबंधित मूल बातों को देखने के बाद हमने बपतिस्मे से संबंधित विवादित और असमंजस में डालने वाली बातों को देखना आरंभ किया। इनके अंतर्गत हमने पहले उद्धार और पाप क्षमा के लिए बपतिस्मे की कथित अनिवार्यता के बारे में वचन की बातों को देखा, और फिर “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” पाने के बारे में ज़ोर देकर दी जाने वाले शिक्षा और संबंधित बातों को देखा। हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के आधार पर ये दोनों ही बातें गलत हैं, बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुसार नहीं हैं। आज हम एक और संबंधित बात को परमेश्वर के वचन के आधार पर देखेंगे, और यह बात भी इसी की पुष्टि करती है कि तथाकथित “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप नहीं है, अस्वीकार्य है। जिस बात को हम आज देखने जा रहे हैं, वह है बाइबल में कितने प्रकार के बपतिस्मे हैं? मसीही विश्वासी को गिनती तथा प्रकार में कितने बपतिस्मे लेने की आवश्यकता है?

इस प्रश्न पर विचार आरंभ करने से पहले हमें बाइबल की सही व्याख्या करने से संबंधित उन मूल बातों को एक बार फिर से ध्यान करना आवश्यक है, जिनका उल्लेख हमने इस शृंखला के आरंभिक लेखों में किया था। सही व्याख्या के लिए अनिवार्य इन बातों में से इस लेख के संदर्भ में इस बात का ध्यान रखना बहुत आवश्यक है कि बाइबल की बातों में परस्पर कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है। यदि कोई भी व्याख्या, या शिक्षा, या सिद्धांत बाइबल की बातों में कोई भी विरोधाभास उत्पन्न करता है तो वह गलत है, अनुचित है, अस्वीकार्य है। साथ ही एक दूसरी बात का भी ध्यान रखना है कि बाइबल की किसी भी बात की प्रत्येक व्याख्या, उससे संबंधित अन्य पदों या शिक्षाओं, तथा उसके अपने संदर्भ में ही की जाए। कभी भी किसी भी व्याख्या को उस पद या बात के संदर्भ से बाहर लेने, या संबंधित बातों की अनदेखी करने के साथ करने से हमेशा ही गलत बातें और धारणाएं ही उत्पन्न होंगी और प्रचार की जाएंगी।

 

पिछले लेखों में “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” के बारे में दी जाने वाली शिक्षाओं को समझने के लिए हमने फरवरी 23 के इस विषय के प्रथम लेख में शब्दों “से” और “का” के अर्थ और उनके प्रयोग से होने वाले वाक्यांश के अर्थ में पूर्ण बदलाव को देखा था। हमने वचन के उदाहरणों से यह समझा था कि “से” उस माध्यम या वस्तु को दिखाता है जिसमें बपतिस्मा दिया जाता है, और “का” उसे या उसके अधिकार को दिखाता है जिसके कहे के अनुसार, या जिसकी आज्ञाकारिता में बपतिस्मा दिया या लिया जाता है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि बाइबल में “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” कहीं नहीं लिखा गया है; जहाँ भी लिखा गया है “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” ही लिखा गया है।

 

यह ध्यान में रखते हुए देखिए कि इफिसियों 4:5 में लिखा है कि “एक ही प्रभु है, एक ही विश्वास, एक ही बपतिस्मा”, अर्थात, बपतिस्मा केवल एक ही है। यदि “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” कोई पृथक अनुभव या कार्य है, तो फिर तो दो बपतिस्मे हो जाते हैं - एक वह जो प्रभु यीशु का है और दूसरा वह जो पवित्र आत्मा का है; और तब परमेश्वर का यह वचन झूठा हो जाता है। इस धारणा के अनुसार फिर बाइबल में विरोधाभास या गलती आ जाती है - क्योंकि तब एक बपतिस्मा पानी से हुआ जो कि प्रभु यीशु के कहे के अनुसार लिया गया, और फिर दूसरा बपतिस्मा पवित्र आत्मा का हुआ। किन्तु बाइबल तो एक ही बपतिस्मे की बात करती है। इसलिए या तो पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा है ही नहीं, और बपतिस्मा केवल पानी में दिया जाने वाला ही एकमात्र बपतिस्मा है; नहीं तो यहाँ पर, इफिसियों 4:5 में गलत लिखा है, जिसका अर्थ हुआ कि बाइबल में गलतियाँ और परस्पर विरोधाभास हैं!

   

किन्तु बाइबल में गलती होने का प्रश्न तो तभी उठता है जब वाक्यांश “पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा” को सही स्वीकार किया जाए; अर्थात पवित्र आत्मा के कहे के अनुसार या पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से एक अन्य बपतिस्मा होना स्वीकार किया जाए। किन्तु परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने तो ऐसी कोई शिक्षा या आज्ञा कभी कहीं पर भी, किसी को भी नहीं दी है। जैसा हम यूहन्ना 16:13-14 से देखते हैं, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की सेवकाई में उनके द्वारा कोई नई बात बताना निर्धारित ही नहीं है। वह तो केवल मसीही विश्वासियों को प्रभु यीशु की बातों को स्मरण करवाने और सिखाने का कार्य करेगा। आप देख सकते हैं कि इस वाक्यांश में शैतान ने “से” के स्थान पर “का” लगाने के द्वारा कितनी चालाकी और दुष्टता से चुपके से न केवल एक बिलकुल गलत सिद्धांत बनाकर अनगिनत लोगों को उसमें फंसा और उलझा दिया है, वरन उस ने परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के कार्यों के विषय यूहन्ना 14 और 16 अध्यायों में प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दी गई शिक्षाओं को भी बदल दिया है। इस से उसने परमेश्वर के वचन में गलतियाँ और विरोधाभास डाल दिए हैं - और वे भी इस झूठ के साथ कि यह मसीही सेवकाई तथा प्रभु की भक्ति के लिए आवश्यक है - किन्तु वास्तविकता यही है कि, बाइबल के अनुसार, यह न तो मसीही सेवकाई और न ही प्रभु की भक्ति के लिए आवश्यक अथवा उचित है।

 

किन्तु यदि, जैसे कि बाइबल में हर जगह पर लिखा भी गया है, इसे “पवित्र आत्मा से बपतिस्मा” समझा और स्वीकार किया जाता है, तो फिर इफिसियों 4:5 के साथ कोई विरोधाभास उत्पन्न नहीं होता है। वचन की हर संबंधित बात के साथ सच्चाई और खराई बनी रहती है, वचन के अर्थ में कोई अन्तर नहीं आता है। एक से अधिक बपतिस्मा होने को सही ठहरने के प्रयास में इसी से संबंधित एक और पद का दुरुपयोग किया जाता है, जहाँ बहुवचन “बपतिस्मे” लिखा गया है। इसके बारे में हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में नया जन्म पाए हुए प्रभु यीशु के शिष्य हैं, पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

  

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

How Many Baptisms?

After considering the basics about baptism from God’s Word, for the past some articles we have been looking at the controversial and confusing things about baptism. In these, we first considered the alleged necessity of baptism for salvation and forgiveness of sins, and then about the so-called “baptism of the Holy Spirit" and its related issues, from the Scriptures. We saw that Biblically speaking both of these are invalid and are not in accordance with the teachings of God’s Word. Today we will look at another related issue, again from the Word of God, which also confirms that the so-called "baptism of the Holy Spirit" does not conform to the teachings of the Bible, and is unacceptable. What we are going to look at today is how many different baptisms are there in the Bible? How many baptisms in number and type does a Christian need to undergo?

Before we begin to consider this question, we need to recall and remember the basics of Biblical interpretation, that have been mentioned in the earlier articles of this series. These basics are essential for a correct Interpretation of these issues. And, in the context of today’s article, it is very important to have in mind the fact that there are no contradictions in the Bible. If any interpretation, or teaching, or doctrine produces any contradiction in what the Bible says, then that teaching, doctrine, or interpretation is wrong, unreasonable, and unacceptable. Another thing to keep in mind is that every interpretation of anything in the Bible should always be done in its context, and also keeping in mind the other verses or teachings related to it. Whenever any interpretation is done by taking that verse or matter out of its context, or disregarding the other related teachings and verses, it will always lead to false interpretations and misconceptions being generated and propagated.

To understand the teachings about the phrase “the baptism of the Holy Spirit”, in the initial article on this topic of February 23, we looked at the implications of the words “with” and “of” and how the meaning of the phrase totally changes, when these words are interchanged. We understood from the examples of the Scriptures that "with" refers to the medium in which baptism is carried out, and "of" refers to the authority, according to whom, or for whose obedience one is baptized. We also saw that "the baptism of the Holy Spirit" is nowhere written in the Bible; Wherever it is written, it is the phrase “baptism with the Holy Spirit” that is written.

Keeping these in mind, note that Ephesians 4:5 states that "one Lord, one faith, one baptism", i.e., there is only one baptism. If the "baptism of the Holy Spirit'' is a separate experience or work, then it implies that there are two baptisms - first of the Lord Jesus and the second of the Holy Spirit; if so, then God’s Word becomes false. Because then, according to this concept, there are contradictions or mistakes in the Bible - because then one baptism is with water taken as instructed by the Lord Jesus, and the other is a baptism of the Holy Spirit. But the Bible talks about only one baptism. Therefore, either there is no baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the one and only baptism is the baptism given in water; else, what is written here in Ephesians 4:5, is wrong, which means the Bible has errors and contradictions! You can see how subtly and deviously, by changing “with” into “of”, Satan has not only built and entangled countless number of people in a false doctrine, but has also altered the Lord Jesus’s teachings about the functions of God Holy Spirit given in John chapter 14 and 16. And thereby he has also brought in errors and contradictions in the Holy Word of God - all in the garb of something necessary for Christian ministry and something reverential - whereas actually, Biblically speaking, it is neither necessary nor reverential.

But the possibility of errors in the Bible will only arise if the phrase “baptism of the Holy Spirit” is accepted to be true; i.e., it is accepted that there is another baptism that is according to or on the authority of the Holy Spirit. But God the Holy Spirit never ever gave any such teaching or instruction anywhere, or to any person. As we see in John 16:13-14, God the Holy Spirit, in His ministry amongst the Christian Believers, will never bring any thing new from His side. He only functions to remind and teach the Christian Believers about the teachings the Lord Jesus has already given. You can see how subtly and deviously, by changing “with” into “of” in this phrase, Satan has not only built and entangled countless number of people in a false doctrine, but has also altered the Lord Jesus’s teachings about the functions of God Holy Spirit given in John chapter 14 and 16. And thereby he has also brought in errors and contradictions in the Holy Word of God - all in the garb of something necessary for Christian ministry and something reverential - whereas actually, Biblically speaking, it is neither necessary nor reverential.

But if, as it is written everywhere in the Bible, it is understood and accepted as "baptism with the Holy Spirit," then there is no contradiction with Ephesians 4:5. The accuracy and integrity of everything related to baptism in the Word of God remains intact, the meaning of the Word remains unchanged. In a further attempt to justify their erroneous stand on more than one baptism, another related verse is misused, where the plural "baptisms" has been used. We will see about this in the next article.

If you are a Christian Believer, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a Born-Again disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. Whoever may be the preacher or teacher, but you should always, like the Berean Believers, first cross-check and test all teachings that you receive, from the Word of God. Only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

जो अपने आप को अलग से पवित्र आत्मा का बपतिस्मा पाए हुए समझते हैं, वे अपने आप को अन्य विश्वासियों से कुछ उच्च (superior) समझने तथा दिखाने लगते हैं; घमंड में आ जाते हैं। उन्हें लगता है, और वे जताते भी हैं कि उनमें कुछ विशेष योग्यताएँ हैं, जिन्हें परमेश्वर ने पहचाना है और उन्हें पुरस्कृत किया है। और यह उनकी मसीही सेवकाई, तथा संसार में मसीही गवाही और कलीसिया के काम के लिए घातक है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर मनुष्य के घमंड के साथ कार्य नहीं कर सकता है, उसके साथ कोई समझौता नहीं कर सकता है। शैतान भी उन्हें गलत शिक्षाओं और बाइबल की गलत व्याख्याओं के द्वारा गलत मार्गों पर डालता और चलाता रहता है, उन से ऐसे व्यवहार करवाता रहता है जो बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप नहीं हैं। ऐसे लोग सामान्यतः मनुष्यों और मनुष्यों की शिक्षाओं का पालन करते हुए देखे जाते हैं, न कि परमेश्वर और उसके वचन का।

ऐसे लोगों का मुख्य कार्य विचित्र शारीरिक गतिविधियों और हावभाव को करना तथा दर्शाना, तथा मुँह से विचित्र बारंबार दोहराई जाने वाली आवाजों - जिन्हें वे “आत्मिक भाषा” कहते हैं, को निकालना होता है - जब कि इनमें से किसी भी बात का बाइबल से कोई समर्थन नहीं है, केवल उनकी अपनी गढ़ी हुई व्याख्याओं का ही समर्थन है। पापों से पश्चाताप और उद्धार के बारे में बताने और सिखाने की बजाए, उनके प्रचार और शिक्षाओं का मुख्य विषय ये शारीरिक गतिविधियाँ, शारीरिक चंगाइयां, और भौतिक लाभ तथा सांसारिक सामग्री एकत्रित करना होता है। उन्हें उनकी गलती का एहसास करवाना, उन्हें दीन होकर अपने गलत कार्यों के लिए पश्चाताप करवाना, और जिन गलत गतिविधियों एवं व्यवहार में वे पड़ गए हैं उस से उन्हें पश्चाताप के साथ निकालना बहुत कठिन होता है। बल्कि, ये लोग औरों को भी अपने समान बाइबल से प्रतिकूल व्यवहार करने के लिए आकर्षित करने के प्रयास में लगे रहते हैं।

 

इसके विपरीत जिन्होंने यह तथाकथित बपतिस्मा या दूसरा अनुभव नहीं पाया है, और बहुत प्रयास करने के बाद भी उन्हें यह अनुभव नहीं मिला है, और न कभी मिलेगा क्योंकि वास्तविकता में ऐसा कुछ है ही नहीं, उनमें निराशा और हीन भावना आने लगती है; उन्हें अपने विश्वास की वास्तविकता पर और अपने मसीही विश्वासी होने पर संदेह होने लगता है, और वे अपनी सेवकाई में कमज़ोर पड़ने लगते हैं। उन्हें लगने लगता है कि वे परमेश्वर द्वारा पहचाने और पुरस्कृत किए हुए नहीं है। दोनों ही स्थितियों में हानि प्रभु के लोगों और उनकी सेवकाई ही की होती है, और लाभ शैतान को मिलता है।

 

इस विचारधारा से यह गलत समझ भी फैलती है कि अलग सेवकाइयों के लिए अलग वरदानों ही की नहीं वरन अलग या अतिरिक्त सामर्थ्य की भी आवश्यकता होती है। जिसका अभिप्राय यह निकलता है कि कुछ सेवकाई प्रमुख हैं, जिनके लिए विशेष सामर्थ्य की आवश्यकता होती है, और शेष हलकी या गौण हैं, जिनके लिए किसी विशेष सामर्थ्य की आवश्यकता नहीं है। यह फिर से मसीही सेवकों में दरार और ऊँच-नीच की भावना को जन्म देता है। यह सेवकाई के लिए दिए जाने वाले पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों के समान महत्व का होने की शिक्षा के बिल्कुल विरुद्ध है। वरदान कोई भी हो, सब मिलकर एक ही देह के अंग हैं, कोई बड़ा या छोटा, अथवा महत्वपूर्ण या गौण नहीं है (रोमियों 12:3-5; 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:4-11, 29-30)। परमेश्वर प्रत्येक को उसे सौंपी गई सेवकाई तथा उस से अपेक्षित कार्य के किए जाने के आधार पर प्रतिफल देगा, न कि वरदानों के अधिक अथवा कम महत्वपूर्ण होने की मन-गढ़ंत धारणा के अनुसार (मत्ती 20:9-15)। पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञाकारिता के द्वारा ही उसकी सामर्थ्य सभी के लिए समान रीति से उपलब्ध होती है।

Baptism OF the Holy Spirit - (5) - Harmful Effects (2)

We have seen in previous articles that the Word of God, the Bible, speaks of the "Baptism with the Holy Spirit", which is the same as receiving the Holy Spirit on coming to Faith in the Lord Jesus. But the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is nowhere mentioned; not only is it completely out of the Bible, but is also incompatible with, and against, the teachings of the Bible. Similarly, we have also seen that attempts to justify the wrong notion of "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" by calling it an additional or extra experience, after receiving the Holy Spirit is also not correct according to the teachings of the Bible. Accepting the phrase "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" and its related erroneous teachings brings other harmful effects for the Christian Believer in his life of faith and his ministry. All these wrong teachings are like a sugar-coated bitter, deadly, poisonous pill given with an outward appearance of reverence and spirituality. With a little serious consideration and analysis, it is not difficult to uncover and understand the ill effects of this wrong ideology, which is entirely based on unBiblical teachings. In the last article we have seen how it is an attempt to create differences and divisions among Christians to render their Christian life and ministry ineffective. Today we will see some more of these covert harmful effects of this wrong teaching.

Those who believe that they have received an additional “baptism of the Holy Spirit” begin to consider and show themselves off as superior to other believers; develop a sense of pride about their capabilities, that they are acknowledged and approved by God and rewarded. Because God cannot work with man's pride, cannot compromise with it, therefore, this attitude of pride becomes very detrimental to their Christian ministry, life and witnessing, and Church work in the world. Satan too continues to mislead them through various wrong interpretations of the Scriptures and having them behave in a manner not consistent with Biblical teachings. Such people are more often seen to be following men and teachings of men, rather than God and His Word.

The main emphasis of such people is on showing odd physical activities and behavior, and making strange incomprehensible repetitive sounds which the call a “spiritual language” - neither of which has any Biblical support, other than from their own interpretations of the Bible. Instead of teaching and emphasizing about repentance and salvation, the main theme of their preaching and teachings are these physical activities, and gaining of material possessions and wealth. It becomes very difficult to have them realize their error, humble themselves, and repent of the wrong practices they have gotten themselves into. Rather, they try to attract others into doing the same unBiblical things that they are doing.

On the other hand, those who have not received this so-called baptism or second experience, even after many efforts; and will never have it either, because actually it is non-existent, they begin to feel depressed and develop an inferiority complex. They begin to doubt genuineness of their faith and their actually being Christian Believers, and thereby they begin to fall short in their spiritual life and Christian ministry, considering themselves as not favored or approved by God. In both cases, the loss is of the Lord's people and His ministry, and the benefit goes to Satan.

This ideology also spreads the misconception that separate ministries require not only separate gifts but also separate or additional powers. Which implies that some ministries are major, requiring special powers, and the rest are minor or secondary, requiring no special powers. This again gives rise to rifts and inferiority complexes among Christian ministers. This is quite contrary to the teaching of the equal importance of the gifts of the Holy Spirit given for the ministry. Whatever be anyone’s individual gift, they are all part of the same body, no one is big or small, neither more important or less important (Romans 12:3-5; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 29-30). God will reward each on the basis of the ministry entrusted to him and work expected from him; and not according to the assumption that their gifts are more important or less important (Matthew 20:9-15). It is through obedience to the Holy Spirit that His power is equally available to all.

We will see in the next article, on another parameter, “how many baptisms?” how “the Baptism of the Holy Spirit” does not match the teachings of the Bible at all. If you are a Christian Believer, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a Born-Again disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. Whoever may be the preacher or teacher, but you should always, like the Berean Believers, first cross-check and test all teachings that you receive, from the Word of God. Only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
