परमेश्वर की आराधना के तरीके (2) - धन्यवाद एवं स्तुति

पिछले लेख में हमने परमेश्वर को अर्पित करने के, अर्थात उसकी आराधना करने के विभिन्न तरीकों और स्वरूपों को देखा था। अकसर किसी भौतिक वस्तु को अर्पित करने के साथ, एक मौखिक स्वरूप को भी प्रयोग किया जाता है। परन्तु, परमेश्वर की आराधना के लिए सबसे अधिक उपयोग किया जाने वाला तरीका मौखिक, यानी शब्दों के द्वारा आराधना चढ़ाना ही है। हमने पिछले लेख के समापन के समय देखा था कि परमेश्वर की आराधना के लिए तीन प्रकार की अभिव्यक्तियाँ उपयोग की जाती हैं - परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करना, उसकी स्तुति करना, और उसका गुणानुवाद करना। आज हम इन में से पहली दो अभिव्यक्तियों, धन्यवाद एवं स्तुति के बारे में देखेंगे, जिस से इन्हें बेहतर समझ सकें।

1. परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करना: यह आराधना चढ़ाने का सबसे आम तौर से उपयोग किए जाने वाला तरीका है। बहुत से मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के साथ अपने सम्पर्क और वार्तालाप को प्रार्थना से और आगे बढ़ा कर, उन बातों के लिए जो परमेश्वर ने उनके जीवनों में की हैं और उनके विभिन्न अनुभवों के लिए धन्यवाद भी करने तक उन्नत कर लेते हैं। लेकिन फिर भी जब लोगों को किसी सभा में आराधना चढ़ाने का अवसर दिया जाता है तब माँगना, यानि कि प्रार्थना और धन्यवाद करना दोनों का मिला-जुला स्वरूप सुनने और देखने को मिलता है, जो न तो प्रार्थना ही होता है, और न पूर्णतः आराधना, बल्कि दोनों की एक खिचड़ी होता है। किन्तु परमेश्वर इसका भी आदर करता है, इन बालकों के समान प्रयासों को कभी तुच्छ नहीं समझता है। परमेश्वर ऐसे प्रयासों से भी प्रेम करता है, उन्हें स्वीकार करता है, उनका आदर करता है, उनके लिए व्यक्ति को आशीष देता है; किन्तु यह खिचड़ी वह सामर्थी हथियार नहीं है जो वास्तविक आराधना होती है। इसे एक उदाहरण के द्वारा समझिए: एक बच्चा तलवार को पकड़ सकता है, हो सकता है कि उसे उठा भी ले, और उसे थोड़ा-बहुत हिला ले, घुमा ले, किन्तु उसे उस प्रभावी रीति से उपयोग नहीं कर पाएगा जैसे कि हथियार के रूप में उसे किया जाना चाहिए, जो कि एक वयस्क और प्रशिक्षित व्यक्ति ही कर सकता है। धन्यवादी होने के साथ एक समस्या यह भी है कि अकसर इसे औपचारिकता निभाने के लिए भी प्रयोग किया जाता है, एक साधारण और शिष्टाचार के अनुकूल वाक्यांश के रूप में, जिस में परमेश्वर के प्रति फिर कोई सच्ची निष्ठा या वास्तविक कृतज्ञता का भाव नहीं होता है, वह बस कहने मात्र ही की बात रह जाती है। इसलिए धन्यवादी होने का आराधना की अभिव्यक्ति के समान उपयोग तभी है जब वह समझते तथा जानते-बूझते हुए वास्तविक कृतज्ञता के साथ अर्पित की जाए। जैसे कि तब, जब परमेश्वर कुछ उपलब्ध करवा कर देता है, किसी कठिन परिस्थिति से छुड़ाता है, किसी बीमारी से चंगा करता है, इत्यादि। चाहे स्वरूप जो भी हो, सार्वजनिक रीति से धन्यवादी होना, यह दिखाता है कि व्यक्ति का परमेश्वर में भरोसा एवं विश्वास है; परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य में, उसकी योग्यता में, व्यक्ति के पक्ष में होकर कार्य करने में विश्वास है। और परमेश्वर इस की सराहना करता है, और इसका प्रतिफल भी देता है। धन्यवाद की आराधना करने वाला व्यक्ति अब परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य और कार्य में भरोसा रखने वाला बनता जा रहा है और उस में विश्वास में बढ़ रहा है।

2. परमेश्वर की स्तुति करना: स्तुति करना धन्यवादी होने से एक कदम और आगे बढ़ना है। यह परमेश्वर को महिमा और आदर देना है। यह तरीका है आनन्द के साथ परमेश्वर के कार्यों का, उसके द्वारा प्रदान की गई किसी बात का, जो उसने उस व्यक्ति अथवा किसी अन्य के लिए किया है बखान करने का, और इनके लिए औरों के सामने परमेश्वर को महिमा देने का। इसलिए स्तुति का दायरा किसी कार्य या परिस्थिति या घटना में परमेश्वर की भूमिका और सहायता तक ही सीमित रह जाता है। धन्यवादी होने में हम परमेश्वर के प्रति अपनी कृतज्ञता को व्यक्त करते हैं; जब कि स्तुति में हम परमेश्वर ने जो किया है उसे सार्वजनिक रीति से बखान करते हैं, जैसे कि इन बातों के लिए:

• परमेश्वर द्वारा हमारे लिए किए गए कार्य के लिए

• परमेश्वर द्वारा आश्चर्यजनक या अद्भुत रीति से कुछ उपलब्ध करवा देने के लिए

• परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई किसी चंगाई के लिए

• परमेश्वर द्वारा शैतानी हमलों से बचाने और उन पर जयवंत करने के लिए

• परमेश्वर द्वारा खोले गए मार्गों और प्रदान किए गए अवसरों के लिए

• परमेश्वर द्वारा विरोधियों के मनों को बदलने, और उन्हें सहायक बना देने के लिए

आदि।

अकसर धन्यवाद और स्तुति साथ मिलाकर कर अर्पित किए जाते हैं, क्योंकि स्तुति का विषय ही धन्यवाद चढ़ाने का कारण भी होता है। स्तुति रूपी आराधना करने वाला विश्वासी, परमेश्वर के साथ अपनी संगति और सहभागिता में एक कदम और आगे बढ़ गया है, और अपनी आराधना अर्पित करने में और अधिक उच्च या उन्नत हो गया है। अब, स्तुति करने वाला विश्वासी न केवल उसके जीवन में ज़ारी परमेश्वर के कार्य और सामर्थ्य को देखने और पहचानने लगा है, वरन उसका खुलकर सब के सामने बयान तथा सराहना भी करने लग गया है। इसलिए, अब परमेश्वर के साथ अपनी विश्वास की यात्रा में, वह अपने ऊपर, अर्थात अपनी बुद्धि और समझ, अपनी सामर्थ्य और क्षमता, अपनी योग्यता, आदि पर कम, परन्तु परमेश्वर पर अधिक भरोसा करने लग गया है। अब वह उसके जीवन में तथा उसके पक्ष में होकर कार्य कर रही परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य पर अधिक भरोसा रखने लग गया है। जैसे-जैसे वह छोटी-छोटी बातों के लिए भी परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद और स्तुति करने वाला बनता जाता है, वह परमेश्वर पर अधिक-और-अधिक भरोसा रखने वाला होता चला जाता है। इस से वह शैतान की चालाकियों के प्रति सचेत और उन्हें बेहतर पहचानने वाला हो जाता है, तथा उन से बच कर निकलने और शैतान के द्वारा उसके जीवन में लाई गई परिस्थितियों पर विजयी होने वाला हो जाता है। धीरे-धीरे, इस अभ्यास के साथ, परमेश्वर के प्रति विश्वास के साथ जीवन जीना उसकी जीवन-शैली बन जाता है, और उसके जीवन में होकर कार्य करने वाली परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य प्रकट होने लगती है। इसलिए, किसी भी शैतानी हमले के द्वारा उसे गिराए या फंसाए जाने की संभावना अब बहुत कम हो जाती है, क्योंकि अब वह हर परिस्थिति और हर बात के लिए अपने ऊपर कम और परमेश्वर पर अधिक भरोसा रखता है।

अगले लेख में हम तीसरे और सर्वोच्च मौखिक आराधना के तरीके, परमेश्वर का गुणानुवाद करने के बारे में देखेंगे; और फिर परमेश्वर के साथ संपर्क और वार्तालाप की इन चारों अभिव्यक्तियों, प्रार्थना, धन्यवाद, स्तुति, और गुणानुवाद को एक उदाहरण के द्वारा समझेंगे, जिस से हम इन्हें व्यवहारिक रीति से उपयोग करना समझ और सीख सकें।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Ways of Worshiping God (2) - Thanking and Praising

In the previous article we had seen the various ways and forms of giving to God, i.e., worshipping God. Often, worshipping God through giving or offering something material is combined with an oral or verbal form of giving as well. But, by far the most commonly used form of worshipping God, or giving to God are the oral or verbal expressions. We had concluded the previous article by mentioning three oral or verbal expressions used for worshipping God - Thanking God, Praising God, Exalting God. Today we will see in some detail about the first two of these expressions, to understand them better.

1. THANKING GOD: This is the most commonly used form of 'worship' i.e., of giving to God. A good number of Believers improve their communication with God, by moving ahead from only praying to also becoming thankful to Him for various things and life experiences. Still, often when people are given the opportunity to WORSHIP in a gathering, then asking i.e., praying, and thanking are often mixed up; so, the net result is neither this nor that - neither prayer nor worship. God does not disregard or look down upon these baby efforts. He still loves and honors them, He gives them credit, He still blesses the person, but this hotchpotch does not actually constitute the powerful tool that Worship is meant to be. Understand it through an example: A child can hold a sword, or even lift up a sword and maybe also move it around or swing it a bit, but cannot use it effectively the way it is meant to be used; so even though it is a weapon in the child’s hands, but it will not be as effective as it will be in the hands of a trained mature person. Another problem with being thankful is that often it can be perfunctory, i.e., something stated as a casual or formal expression, without it actually coming from the heart, or with a sense of gratitude and obligation towards God, or being associated with a heartfelt meaning and acknowledgement. So, its actual utility as a form of worship is only when it is a very sincere expression of gratitude, consciously offered, as when God provides something, or delivers from a difficult situation, or heals from a sickness etc. Whatever be the form, it is still openly or publicly acknowledging that God has been instrumental in doing something for the Believer. Hence being Thankful is an expression of having trust and faith in God; of believing in His power, in His ability and willingness to work for His child. And God does appreciate and reward that too. The person offering worship in the form of being thankful has now become one who believes in and trusts the power on working of God, and is growing in his faith in God.

2. PRAISING GOD: Praise is a step ahead of being Thankful. It is bringing glory and honor to God. It is a way of joyfully declaring God's works - for self or for others, and glorifying God before others for what He has done, in a given situation in or about some particular thing. So, the scope of this expression of worship remains limited to a particular situation or event or action of God. In being Thankful, we express our gratitude to God; whereas in Praise, we publicly proclaim what God has done, e.g.:

• God has helped me in this manner.

• God has miraculously provided.

• God has healed.

• God has overcome and delivered from satanic attacks.

• God has opened doors and opportunities.

• God has turned the hearts of opponents into favoring.

etc.

Often Thankfulness and Praise are mixed up, because the subject of Praise is also often the cause for being Thankful. The Praising Believer has matured one more step in his fellowship with God, and has risen that much higher in his worship of God. Now, the Praising Believer has not only started to see and believe the power of God operating in his life, but also to openly acknowledge it, i.e., declare and appreciate it before others. Therefore, in His walk of faith in God, he now begins to rely less on self, i.e., his own wisdom, strength, and abilities, and more upon God, since he has started to recognize and appreciate the power of God working for him and in his life. As he continues to Praise God for even seemingly small and routine things, he becomes more and more trusting upon God. This makes him that much more discerning and aware of the tricks of the devil, as well as able to avoid them and to overcome the traps and adverse situations the satanic forces put up in his paths. Gradually, living by confident faith becomes his lifestyle, and God's power can be readily seen working in and through him. Now he is that much less likely to succumb to satanic attacks against him, since he is relying more upon God and less upon himself, for everything, and in every situation.

In the next article we will consider about the third and highest expression of orally or verbally worshipping God, i.e., Exalting God, and then illustrate these four forms of communicating with God i.e., Prayer, Thanking, Praising, and Exalting God through applying them to an example; which will also help us in understanding better, in a practical way, these four forms of communicating with God.

Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

परमेश्वर की आराधना के तरीके (1)

पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि प्रार्थना और आराधना परमेश्वर के साथ संपर्क करने के, वार्तालाप करने के भिन्न तरीके हैं। प्रार्थना में व्यक्ति परमेश्वर से कुछ माँगता है, चाहे अपने लिए या औरों के लिए। आराधना में व्यक्ति परमेश्वर को देता है; और हम ने इस निष्कर्ष के साथ समाप्त लिया था कि मसीही विश्वासी के लिए क्यों केवल प्रार्थना करने वाला नहीं, वरन आराधना करने वाला भी होना बहुत अधिक लाभप्रद होता है।

दोनों, प्रार्थना और आराधना व्यक्ति के अपने शब्दों में हो सकते हैं, या किसी अन्य के शब्दों के प्रयोग के द्वारा भी हो सकते हैं; प्रार्थना और आराधना करने के ये दोनों ही बहुत जाने-पहचाने, बिलकुल जायज़, एवं स्वीकार्य तरीके हैं। दूसरों के शब्दों से अभिप्राय है कहीं पर लिखी या दर्ज, औरों के द्वारा प्रयोग की गई प्रार्थना या आराधना का उपयोग करना; यह परमेश्वर के वचन से हो सकता है, जैसे कि भजनों में से या बाइबल के खण्डों में से लेकर उपयोग करने के द्वारा; या परमेश्वर के अन्य संतानों, अन्य लोगों के द्वारा लिखे गए गीतों या प्रार्थनाओं को गाने या बोलने के द्वारा।

परमेश्वर के वचन से, मुख्यतः मूसा में होकर प्रदान की गई व्यवस्था से, तथा बाइबल के अन्य स्थानों से हम देख सकते हैं कि परमेश्वर को देना, यानि कि उसकी आराधना, 3 तरीकों से की जा सकती है:

• भौतिक वस्तुओं को अर्पित करने के द्वारा:-

• किसी बलिदान को चढ़ाने के द्वारा - किसी पशु अथवा खेत की उपज आदि को परमेश्वर को अर्पित करना

• अपनी आमदनी अथवा भौतिक समृद्धि या उन्नति के भाग को परमेश्वर को अर्पित करना

• बोले गए शब्दों के द्वारा:- ये व्यक्ति के अपने शब्द हो सकते हैं, या किसी अन्य के शब्दों का उपयोग हो सकता है, जैसे कि औरों के द्वारा लिखे गए भजन, स्तुतिगान, गीत आदि गाना। शब्दों के प्रयोग से, चाहे वे अपने हों अथवा किसी और के लिखे हुए हों, व्यक्ति आराधना के लिए:

• प्रभु परमेश्वर के प्रति विभिन्न उद्गार या भावनाएँ व्यक्त कर सकता है, जैसे कि प्रेम, आदर, कृतज्ञता, सराहना, श्रद्धा, भक्ति, इत्यादि।

• परमेश्वर के प्रति धन्यवादी हो सकता है, उसके द्वारा किए गए किसी कार्य के लिए, उसके द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाई किसी बात या वस्तु के लिए, उसके द्वारा बताए या सिखाए गए किसी मार्गदर्शन के लिए, उसके द्वारा दिए गए किसी आश्वासन या वायदे के लिए, आदि।

• परमेश्वर के कार्यों, विशेषताओं, और गुणों, आदि के लिए उसकी स्तुति करना।

• परमेश्वर जो है और जिस प्रकार से अपने आप को प्रकट करता है, जैसे वह कार्य करता है आदि, उनका वर्णन या बखान करना।

• शारीरिक हावभाव के द्वारा व्यक्त कर के:- अर्थात, अपनी भावनाओं और मनोदशा को शारीरिक मुद्राओं और हावभाव के द्वारा व्यक्त करना, जैसे कि दण्डवत करना (अय्यूब 1:20-21), सिर झुकाना (निर्गमन ४:३१), हाथों को उठाना (भजन 63:4), इत्यादि। आराधना के विषय अकसर उपयोग किए जाने वाला बाइबल का खण्ड, यूहन्ना 4:23-24 में मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द ‘प्रोस्कुनियो’ का अनुवाद “आराधना” किया गया है, और ‘प्रोस्कुनियो’ का शब्दार्थ होता है पूरी तरह से झुक जाना, श्रद्धा और समर्पण में औंधे मुँह गिर जाना। अर्थात, प्रभु यहाँ पर जो कह रहा है उसका अर्थ है कि परमेश्वर ऐसे लोगों को ढूँढ़ रहा है जो उसके सामने पूर्णतः नतमस्तक रहेंगे, नम्रता, भक्ति और श्रद्धा में उसके सामने दण्डवत करे हुए, बिछे हुए रहेंगे; यानी कि परमेश्वर के प्रति बिना कोई प्रश्न उठाए पूर्णतः समर्पित और आज्ञाकारी बने रहेंगे।   

सामान्यतः हम अपने मसीही जीवन का आरंभ अलग-अलग बातों और परिस्थितियों के लिए परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना करना सीखने के साथ करते हैं, और अधिकांश मसीही विश्वासी परमेश्वर के साथ अपने संपर्क एवं वार्तालाप में इसी स्तर पर ही बने रह जाते हैं। कुछ होते हैं जो परमेश्वर के प्रति धन्यवादी होने तक बढ़ते हैं। लेकिन कम ही होते हैं जो आराधना में परमेश्वर की स्तुति करने तक पहुँचते हैं, और ऐसे आराधक को देखना जो परमेश्वर का गुणानुवाद करता है यदा-कदा ही देखने को मिलता है।

हम परमेश्वर की आराधना के इन विभिन्न तरीकों के बारे में आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे और उन्हें समझेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Ways of Worshiping God (1)

In the previous article we have seen that prayer and worship are different ways of communicating with God. In prayer a person asks for things from God, whether for self or for others. In worship, the person gives to God; and we had concluded by seeing that how, for Christian Believers, worshiping is far more powerful and beneficial than only praying.

 

Both, Prayer and Worship can be in one's own words, or in borrowed words; both are well known and well accepted, absolutely valid ways of praying or worshipping. Borrowed words means using other’s recorded prayers and worship; it may be from God's Word, e.g., from Psalms or Biblical passages often quoted for personal use; or the worship or prayer songs written and sung by other children of God.

From the Word of God, mainly from the Law given through Moses, and the other Biblical examples, we can see that Worship or giving to the Lord can be through 3 things:

• Through offering Material things:

• Offering sacrifices - animal, or farm-produce, etc.

• Offering from one's income, or from material gains etc.

• Through offering Spoken Words: - This can be in one’s own words, or it can be through the words of others e.g., singing hymns, songs, Psalms etc. written by others. Using words, own or of others, a person can Worship God by:

• Expressing various kinds of feelings and emotions towards God, e.g., of love, honor, gratitude, adoration, admiration, reverence etc. towards the Lord God.

• Expressing Thankfulness for what God has done, has provided, has shown and taught, has planned, has said and assured etc.

• Expressing praise for God’s works, attributes, and characteristics etc.

• Expressing exaltation for who God is and how He manifests Himself, How He acts, etc., in various ways.

• Through Gestures: - i.e., Expressing one's feelings and state of heart through physical postures and actions, e.g. prostrating oneself (Job 1:20-21), bowing down (Exodus 4:31), lifting hands (Psalms 63:4) etc. In fact, in the classical passage often used to talk about worship John 4:23-24, the Greek word translated as "Worship" is "proskuneo", which literally means to fully bend over, to fall face down and prostrate in adoration and submission. So, what the Lord is saying here is that God is seeking those who will totally submit themselves to Him, in humility, adoration, and reverence - staying face down and spread out before Him i.e., being absolutely and unquestioningly obedient to Him.

Usually, we start our Christian Living with learning to say Prayers for various things and circumstances, and that is where many Believers remain stuck in their communications with God. Some progress to being Thankful, which is one way of worshipping God. But only a few go on to Praising God, and scarce are the ones who reach the point of Exalting God.

We will look at these various ways of worshipping God in the coming articles, and understand about them.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

पिछले लेख में, जो आराधना पर हमारी इस बाइबल अध्ययन का परिचय था, हम ने लेख का अन्त यह कहते हुए किया था कि परमेश्वर की आराधना करना हमें परमेश्वर के द्वारा शैतान तथा उसकी युक्तियों के विरुद्ध दिया गया एक बहुत सामर्थी हथियार है, जिसके द्वारा मसीही विश्वासी और मसीही सेवकाई सुरक्षित रह सकते हैं; एक विजयी और आनन्दित जीवन जी सकते हैं। किन्तु यह दुःख की बात है कि अधिकांश विश्वासी प्रभु परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रदान की गई इस सामर्थ्य को न तो ठीक से समझते हैं, और न ही उसका ठीक से उपयोग करते हैं। और इसीलिए वे एक साधारण सा या हारा हुआ भी जीवन व्यतीत करते रह जाते हैं। जब कि आराधना के द्वारा उन्हें वह बहुतायत का जीवन जीते हुए होना चाहिए जिसकी बात प्रभु यीशु ने यूहन्ना 10:10 में की और चाहता है कि उसके लोग जीएँ।

अदन की वाटिका में किए गाए प्रथम पाप के साथ ही परमेश्वर के साथ मनुष्य की संगति और सहभागिता टूट गई। पाप करने से पहले मनुष्य निःसंकोच परमेश्वर के साथ मिल सकता था और बातचीत कर सकता था। परमेश्वर ने उसकी प्रत्येक आवश्यकता का इंतज़ाम कर के दे रखा था, और उसे किसी भी बात के लिए प्रार्थना करने, परमेश्वर से माँगने की कोई आवश्यकता ही नहीं थी। लेकिन पाप और और उसके दुष्प्रभावों के कारण मनुष्य ने अपनी इस विशिष्ट स्थिति को गँवा दिया, और अब वह अपनी आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति के लिए परिश्रम करने की स्थिति में आ गया। परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को अदन की वाटिका से तो निकला दिया, किन्तु उसे त्याग नहीं दिया, और न ही उसे पूर्णतः उसके हाल और कार्यों पर छोड़ दिया। परमेश्वर फिर भी मनुष्य की सहायता करता रहा; उत्पत्ति 4 अध्याय पढ़िए - हव्वा ने परमेश्वर की सहायता से ही अपनी संतान को जन्म दिया; परमेश्वर ने कैन के साथ भी, जो उसने किया था उसके बारे में वार्तालाप किया और ज़ारी भी रखा; लेमेक को आश्वासन था कि परमेश्वर उसका भी पलटा लेगा, आदि। और संपूर्ण बाइबल के इतिहास के समय से लेकर आज तक परमेश्वर लोगों के साथ बात करता आ रहा है, उन्हें चिताता, सिखाता, और समझाता आ रहा है, अनेकों प्रकार से उनकी सहायता करता आ रहा है। तो, हम देखते हैं कि पाप में गिर जाने के बाद से मनुष्य परमेश्वर के साथ दो प्रकार से संपर्क करता रहा है - परमेश्वर को कुछ देने के द्वारा, जैसे कैन और हाबिल ने किया (उत्पत्ति 4:3-4), और दूसरा, जैसा कि आगे चलकर उत्पत्ति 4:26 में लिखा है “...उसी समय से लोग यहोवा से प्रार्थना करने लगे”।

आज हम भी परमेश्वर के साथ इन्हीं दो बुनियादी तरीकों से ही संपर्क या वार्तालाप करते हैं - या तो हम परमेश्वर को कुछ अर्पित करते हैं, या उसे पुकार कर उससे कुछ माँगते हैं, वह चाहे अपने लिए हो या किसी अन्य की आवश्यकताओं के लिए हो। परमेश्वर से कुछ करने के लिए कहना, कुछ माँगना, प्रार्थना है; जब कि परमेश्वर को कुछ देना आराधना है या आराधना करना है। तो, इन बातों की बुनियादी समझ यह है कि आराधना परमेश्वर को कुछ देना है, प्रार्थना परमेश्वर से कुछ माँगना और लेना है। आराधना और प्रार्थना के मध्य के इस बुनियादी अंतर को समझना और उसका निर्वाह करना बहुत आवश्यक है। बहुत से लोग, अकसर, परमेश्वर से आराधना का आरंभ परमेश्वर को धन्यवाद करने के साथ करते हैं, और फिर थोड़ी सी देर में प्रार्थना में आ जाते हैं; अर्थात अपनी या औरों की आवश्यकताओं को बताने लगते हैं, उनके समाधान के लिए परमेश्वर से आग्रह करने लगते हैं। यह सच्ची आराधना नहीं है। जैसा हम आगे के लेखों में देखेंगे, निःसंदेह आराधना प्रार्थना को और अधिक प्रभावी बना देती है, लेकिन परमेश्वर से कुछ माँगना, प्रार्थना करना, आराधना नहीं है, क्योंकि वह परमेश्वर को देना नहीं है।

अगले लेख में हम यहीं से आगे चलेंगे, और उन विभिन्न तरीकों को देखेंगे जिनके द्वारा हम परमेश्वर को कुछ दे सकते हैं। लेकिन अभी के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन में से एक पद पर विचार कीजिए   “मैं ने तुम्हें सब कुछ कर के दिखाया, कि इस रीति से परिश्रम करते हुए निर्बलों को सम्हालना, और प्रभु यीशु की बातें स्मरण रखना अवश्य है, कि उसने आप ही कहा है; कि लेने से देना धन्य है” (प्रेरितों 20:35)। इसे परमेश्वर के विषय एक बहुधा कही जाने वाली बात, ‘परमेश्वर कभी किसी का कर्ज़दार नहीं रहता’, अर्थात, परमेश्वर कभी किसी के एहसान या दिए हुए के नीचे नहीं रहता, के साथ जोड़कर उस पर सोचिए। कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति, अपनी योग्यता और सामर्थ्य का अनुसार परमेश्वर को कुछ देगा, तो परमेश्वर भी उसे लौटा कर कुछ-न-कुछ देगा, और परमेश्वर अपनी योग्यता एवं सामर्थ्य के अनुसार लौटा कर देगा। इसलिए ज़रा विचार कीजिए, कि व्यक्ति के लिए परमेश्वर से केवल प्रार्थना करने की बजाए, परमेश्वर की आराधना भी करना कितना अधिक लाभदायक होगा। यदि वह परमेश्वर से केवल माँगते रहने वाला होने की बजाए परमेश्वर को देते रहने वाला भी होगा, तो उसका जीवन कहाँ से कहाँ पहुँच जाएगा।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Basic Facts

In the last article, the Introduction to this Bible Study series on Worship, we had concluded by mentioning that Worshiping God is a very powerful God given weapon against Satan and his devious ploys against the Believers and their Christian Ministry. It is the God given tool in the hands of a Christian Believer, to live a victorious and joyful Christian life. But unfortunately, it is often neither properly understood, nor effectively used by most Believers, and therefore they continue living a very average or often even a defeated Christian life. Whereas, through Worship, they should be leading the abundant life Lord Jesus has promised in John 10:10, and laid out for them.

With the first sin, committed in the garden of Eden, man’s fellowship with God was broken. Prior to the sin, man could freely talk and fellowship with God; all his needs had already been taken care of by God, and there was no need for him to pray and ask for anything. But with sin and its effects, man lost this privileged position, and would now have to work to provide for his needs. God had cast man out of the garden of Eden, but had not abandoned him altogether, nor left him entirely to his own devices. God still helped man; see Genesis 4 - Eve bore her children with the help of God; God conversed with Cain about what he had done with Abel; Lamech had an assurance of God avenging him, etc. And, throughout the times of the history of the Bible till today, God has been communicating with people, has been warning, teaching, and advising people, has been helping them in numerous ways. So, we see that since after the fall, man has communicated with God basically in two ways - offering something to God, as Cain and Abel did (Genesis 4:3-4), and later as written in Genesis 4:26, “...Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.” 

Today, we too communicate with God through one of these two basic ways - either offer something to God, i.e., give God; and second by calling upon Him, i.e., asking of things from Him or requesting Him for meeting needs - whether those needs are ours or of others. Asking God to do something, is Prayer; offering something to God, giving Him something is Worship or worshiping Him. So, basically, to worship God is to give Him something; whereas prayer is to receive something from God. This fundamental difference between prayer and worship has to be understood and kept in mind when we worship God. Many people begin worship by thanking God, and then in a very short while switch over to prayer, i.e., to telling God about various needs - their own, or of others, and asking Him to meet those needs. That is not true worship. As we will see later, worship does make prayers more effective, but prayer, i.e., asking God for something is not worshipping God, i.e., is not giving to God.

We will carry on from here in the next article, and see the various ways and how we can give to God. But for now, ponder over a verse from God’s Word “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' " (Acts 20:35). Couple this with a commonly used saying about God - ‘God is never anybody’s debtor’, i.e., God never remains under any obligation or debt to anyone. The implication is that if anyone, according to his own abilities, gives anything to God, God will always give something back to him for it and that too according to God’s abilities. Therefore, how much more beneficial it is for a person to worship God, i.e., be the one who gives to God, than only pray to God, i.e., being the one who only requests things from Him.

परमेश्वर की आराधना कलीसियाओं में और विभिन्न अवसरों तथा पर्व-त्यौहारों पर की जाती है - चाहे घर में, या किसी स्थान पर जमा होने के समय। लगभग प्रत्येक ईसाई या मसीही गतिविधि का आरंभ प्रार्थना तथा एक-दो गीत गाने के साथ होता है; कलीसिया की सभा में भी, आरंभ में तथा बीच में कुछ गीत गाए जाते हैं, और इस गीत गाने को सामान्यतः आराधना करना कहा तथा समझा जाता है। बहुत सी कलीसियाओं में उपस्थित लोगों से आराधना का आह्वान करना सामान्यतः सभा में उपस्थित लोगों के द्वारा गीत गाना ही समझा और किया जाता है। इसलिए, गीत गाने को परमेश्वर की आराधना करने का एक बहुत आम और मान्य विधि समझा तथा माना जाता है।

बहुत सी कलीसियाओं की सभाओं में इस गीत गाने के साथ लोग विभिन्न शारीरिक हावभाव भी प्रदर्शित करते हैं, और अकसर “आराधना के अगुवे” लोगों से यह करने के लिए कहते हैं, उपस्थित लोगों से ऐसा करवाते हैं, वे इस बात पर बल देते हैं कि ये हावभाव और शारीरिक क्रियाएं करना भी परमेश्वर की आराधना करना है। कुछ “आराधना-अगुवे” ऐसा इस वाक्यांश “परमेश्वर चाहता है कि आप…करें” के द्वारा भी वह करवाते हैं, जो वे स्वयं, न कि परमेश्वर चाहता है। बहुत सी कलीसियाओं में “आराधना” करने के नाम पर लोग चिल्लाते हैं, शोर मचाते हैं, मुँह से अजीब और समझ न आने वाली आवाजें निकालते हैं, कुछ निरर्थक आवाजों को बारंबार दोहराते हैं, और इस सब को वे “अन्य-भाषा में आराधना”, अर्थात, परमेश्वर के साथ किसी अज्ञात ईश्वरीय भाषा में बात करना, उसकी “आराधना” करना कहते हैं, यद्यपि स्वयं उन्हें ही पता नहीं होता है कि उन्होंने क्या कहा है और उनके कहने का क्या अभिप्राय था।

इस तरह, यद्यपि ईसाइयों या मसीहियों में आराधना करने की सामान्य प्रवृत्ति तो है, किन्तु आराधना के बारे में, आराधना क्या है की समझ के बारे में, आराधना किस प्रकार करनी है उस के बारे में, उनमें कोई समानता या एकता नहीं है। एक अन्य, अचरज में डालने वाली दुखद बात यह भी है कि अधिकांश मसीहियों को यह भी नहीं पता है कि उन्हें आराधना क्यों करनी है। उन के लिए तो जैसा उन्होंने अपनी कलीसियाओं में देखा है, वही करना कलीसिया की सभा अथवा उस प्रकार के अवसर या पर्व-त्यौहार का एक अभिन्न अंग है, इसलिए वे भी उसी प्रकार से “आराधना” करते हैं; अर्थात उनके लिए यह एक परंपरा का पालन करने या किसी रीति को पूरा करने से अधिक और कुछ नहीं है, और चाहे उनके मन और मस्तिष्क उसमें न भी हों, वे उसे बस कर देते हैं। अधिकांश लोगों के लिए आराधना का “क्यों” और “कैसे” अज्ञात है; क्योंकि उन्होंने यह होते हुए देखा है, इसलिए वे भी यही करते रहते हैं। न तो कभी किसी ने उन्हें आराधना के बारे में सिखाने का प्रयास किया; और न ही उन्होंने स्वयं भी आराधना के बारे में कुछ जानने तथा सीखने का प्रयास किया।

प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी, प्रत्येक नया जन्म पाए हुए जन को परमेश्वर का आराधक होना है; यह कोई वैकल्पिक बात नहीं है, वरन मसीही जीवन के लिए एक अनिवार्यता है। बाइबल का तथ्य यही है कि आराधना परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने बच्चों को दिया गया एक बहुत प्रबल हथियार है, जिस के द्वारा वे शैतान की युक्तियों पर विजयी जीवन को जी सकें, उसकी शैतानी चालाकियों में फंस कर गिर न जाएँ। इन अन्त के दिनों में, जिन में हम जी रहे हैं, हम मसीहियों को इस सामर्थ्य और योग्यता के और भी बहुत अधिक आवश्यकता है। मसीही, इन परेशानियों से भरे दिनों में, आराधना के द्वारा ही अपने विश्वास में दृढ़ खड़े रह सकते हैं, परमेश्वर की महिमा कर सकते हैं, और एक प्रभावी गवाही को प्रस्तुत कर सकते हैं।

आगे दिनों में हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल से अध्ययन करेंगे कि आराधना वास्तव में क्या है, और परमेश्वर क्यों चाहता है कि उसके बच्चे उसके आराधक बनें, वे जो आत्मा और सच्चाई से उसकी आराधना करते हैं।

Introduction

Worshipping God is something often done in Church services and on various occasions and celebrations - whether in a home, or in a place of gathering. Nearly every Christian activity starts with prayer followed by a song or two; in Church services too, songs are sung at the beginning of the services and in between as well, and this singing of songs is often taken to be or understood as worship. In many Churches, the call for the congregation to worship implies singing songs, usually by the whole congregation. So, singing of songs is a very commonly understood way of worshipping God.

In many Churches and congregations this singing is often accompanied by different kinds of body gestures, and very often the “worship leaders” say and make the congregation carry out those gestures, emphasizing that doing so is the way to worship God. Some worship leaders even do this with the phrase “God wants you too…” and then speak out what they, not God, want the congregation to do. In many Churches, very often people shout and yell in the name of “worshipping” God, while others make unintelligible repetitive sounds, speak gibberish, calling it “worshipping in tongues”, i.e., allegedly speaking to God in some divine language, and call doing so “worshipping” God, although they themselves do not know what they have spoken or meant.

In some other congregations at the call to worship, people read Bible text passages or read from the Psalms, or share some insights from God’s Word that they have received during their Quiet Time with God, while some may sing a song or offer a prayer or speak out something about God, about His characteristics, His works, the way they have experienced God work in their lives, etc.

So, though there is a common tendency amongst Christians to Worship God, but yet there is no uniformity amongst them about the form of worship, about what worship actually is, about how to worship. A dismaying and sad fact is that most Christians do not even know why they should worship at all. To them worshipping God in the manner they have seen being done in their congregation or Church is something that is an integral part of the Church service, or of the service associated with a particular occasion or celebration, therefore they too “worship”; i.e., for them it is following a tradition or fulfilling a ritual, while their heart and mind may not be in it at all. The actual “how” and “why” of worship is unknown to many; they do it because it is done, and do it in the manner they have seen it being done. Nobody has ever bothered to teach them about worship; nor have they ever bothered to learn for themselves what worship actually means.

Every Christian Believer, every Born-Again person is to be a true worshipper of God; it is not an option, but a necessity of Christian life and living. The Biblical fact is that actual worship is a very powerful tool that God has given to His children to help them live an overcoming, victorious life over the wiles of Satan, and not fall prey to his devious schemes. In these end-times that we are living, we need this power and ability even more. It is through worship that Christians can defeat Satan, stand firm in their faith, glorify God, and effectively witness for Him even in these troubled times.

In the days ahead, we will study from God’s Word the Bible what worship actually is and why God wants His children, His people to be His Worshippers, those who worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
