मसीही जीवन के चार स्तम्भ - 4 - प्रार्थना (35) 

व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातों के मूल स्वरूप और आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासियों तथा कलीसियाओं द्वारा उन बातों के पालन किए जाने के बारे में सीखने के लिए, हम इन बातों को परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में दिए गए उदाहरणों तथा संबंधित हवालों से देखते और समझते आ रहे हैं। जैसा हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं, प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित सात बातें दी गई हैं। पहली तीन बातें, जो मसीही विश्वास में आने, मसीही जीवन आरम्भ करने से सम्बन्धित हैं, वे पतरस द्वारा भक्त यहूदियों को किए गए प्रचार के अन्त की ओर, प्रेरितों 2:38-41 में दी गई हैं। और शेष चार, जिनका आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर पालन करते थे, वे प्रेरितों 2:42 में दी गई हैं, और मसीही जीवन पर उनके सकारात्मक प्रभाव के कारण उन्हें “मसीही जीवन के स्तम्भ” भी कहा जाता है। इन चार में से पहली तीन बातों पर विचार कर लेने के बाद, अब हम चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने पर विचार कर रहे हैं। प्रार्थना से सम्बन्धित बुनियादी बातों को देखने और समझने के बाद, अब हम मसीहियों में बहुत आम प्रयोग की जाने वाली “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” पर मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर देखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने देखा है कि यह हर अवसर और हर बात के लिए, बिना सोचे-समझे, यूँ ही दोहराई जाने वाली कोई प्रार्थना नहीं है। वरन प्रभु यीशु ने अपने सच्चे समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों को, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाएं बनाने के लिए एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा दिया है। मत्ती के इस खण्ड में, प्रभु ने पद 11-13a में तीन बातें कही हैं, जिन्हें प्रभु के शिष्यों को परमेश्वर से माँगना है। ये तीन बातें हैं, परमेश्वर पिता पर निर्भर रहना, क्षमाशील होना, और पिता परमेश्वर द्वारा परीक्षा में न लाए जाने और बुराई से बचाए रखने का निवेदन करना। पिछले दो लेखों में तीसरी बात को देखने और समझने के बाद, आज हम देखेंगे कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को, विशेषकर उन्हें जो इन बातों में उन्नत होना चाहते हैं, इनकी आशीषों को प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं, उन्हें किस प्रकार प्रशिक्षित करता है।

हमने पिछले लेखों में देखा है कि परमेश्वर हमारे बारे में सब कुछ जानता है (यूहन्ना 2:24-25); किन्तु उसके प्रति हमारे विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की वास्तविक दशा को हम पर प्रकट करने के लिए, परमेश्वर हमें परीक्षाओं से होकर निकालता है, ताकि हम समय रहते अपने भटकने, अपनी गलतियों, और अपनी कमजोरियों को पहचान जाएं, और उन्हें सुधार लें। जैसा हम अपने प्रतिदिन के जीवन और व्यवहार से जानते और समझते हैं, किसी भी वस्तु की वास्तविकता, उसे उन परिस्थितियों में उपयोग करने के द्वारा ही पता चलती है, जिनके लिए उसे तैयार किया गया है। मसीही विश्वासियों को प्रशिक्षित, परिपक्व, एवं दृढ़ बनाने के लिए परमेश्वर इन दोनों व्यावहारिक और सैद्धांतिक बातों का उनके जीवन में प्रयोग करता है। 

मत्ती 6:11 में दी गई पहली बात है, अपनी रोज की रोटी के लिए परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहना। अर्थात दिन-प्रतिदिन के हिसाब से जीवन जीना; मत्ती 6:33-34 को मानते हुए उसका पालन करना, और अपने मन में निश्चित रहना कि जब कल आएगा, तब कल की आवश्यकताओं के अनुसार परमेश्वर उन आवश्यकताओं के लिए प्रावधान भी करके देगा; जैसे अब्राहम ने इसहाक को सिखाया (उत्पत्ति 22:7-8)। इस प्रशिक्षण के लिए, परमेश्वर हमें आवश्यकताओं में, कमी-घटी में, परेशानियों में जा लेने देगा (व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:3-6); और हमें हमारी मनसा, युक्तियों पर छोड़ देगा। उन आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए हमारे सामने सांसारिकता के अनुसार चलने का, संसार से समझौता करने का अवसर होगा। अब यह हम पर, परमेश्वर पर हमारे विश्वास की दृढ़ता पर, निर्भर होगा कि हम कुछ समय के दुःख और कुछ हानि सहते हुए भी अपने मसीही विश्वास, और परमेश्वर की योजनाओं पर अपने भरोसे को बनाए रखते हैं, और परीक्षा से पार हो जाते हैं, जैसा अय्यूब  ने किया; या दुःख, तकलीफ, असुविधाओं से बचने के लिए संसार के साथ समझौता कर लेते हैं, किन्तु परीक्षा में असफल रहते हैं; जो हमें हमारे विश्वास की वास्तविकता और दृढ़ता को प्रकट कर देता है। प्रतिदिन के प्रावधान के लिए परमेश्वर पर निर्भर रहने का अर्थ है, बिना परमेश्वर पर, उसकी योजनाओं पर, उसके प्रावधानों पर सन्देह किए, बिना संसार के मार्गों को अपनाए, परमेश्वर के कहे के अनुसार चलते रहना, चाहे उसके लिए कुछ दुःख, हानि, असुविधा क्यों न उठानी पड़े। 

अगले लेख में हम प्रार्थना के दूसरे और तीसरे बिन्दु के लिए प्रशिक्षित किए जाने के बारे में देखेंगे।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (35)

 

To learn about the original form of the things related to practical Christian living, and how the initial Christian Believers and churches practiced them, we are considering and understanding these things through the examples and references about them in God’s Word the Bible. As we have seen in the earlier articles, there are seven things related to practical Christian living given in Acts 2. The first three things, that are related to coming into the Christian faith, are given towards the end of Peter’s sermon to the devout Jews, in Acts 2:38-41. The remaining four, those that the initial Christian Believers followed steadfastly, are given in Acts 2:42. Because of their positive effect on Christian living, they are also known as “Pillars of Christin Living.” Having considered the first three of these four, we are now considering the fourth one, praying. Having seen and understood the fundamental things related to prayer, now we are considering something that is very commonly used amongst the Christiana, the “Lord’s Prayer” on the basis of Matthew 6:5-15. We have seen that it is not something that has been given for being said as a formality by rote on every occasion and for all situations, without even knowing about it or understanding it. Rather, the Lord Jesus has given to His true, surrendered, and obedient disciples an outline, a framework, for saying prayers that would be acceptable to God. In this passage from Matthew, the Lord in verses 11-13a has said three things, which the disciples of the Lord should ask from God. These three things are, to be dependent upon Father God, to be forgiving, and to request God the Father that He would not lead them into temptation and also keep them safe from evil. Having seen about the third of these three in the previous two articles, today we will see how God trains His people, especially those who want to be edified in these things, and receive the blessings associated with them.

We have seen in the previous articles that that God knows everything about us (John 2:24-25); but to make us aware of the actual state of our faith, obedience, and mentality towards Him, God allows us to go through trials and temptations, so that we may know about our getting misled, realize our mistakes, and learn of our weaknesses and rectify them well in time. As we know and understand from our day-to-day lives and behavior, the actual state of anything is only known when it is put to use for the purpose it has been made. To make us Christian Believers trained, mature, and steadfast, God uses both of these practical and fundamental principles in our lives.

In Matthew 6:11 we have the first thing – depend upon God for our daily bread. In other words, to live life one day at a time, believing in and trusting Matthew 6:33-34, being confident in our hearts that when ‘tomorrow’ comes, then according to the needs of ‘tomorrow’ God will make the necessary provisions; as Abraham taught Isaac (Genesis 22:7-8). For this training, God allows us to go through needs, deficiencies, problems (Deuteronomy 8:3-6); and leaves us to our own thinking and devices. To fulfill those needs, we will have before us the opportunities to do things like the world does, to compromise with the world. Now, it is left to us to depend upon our faith in God, and be willing to go through times of pain and some loss, while continuing to trust our Christian faith and the plans that God has made for us, and successfully go through the trials, as Job did; or to escape pain, problems, and discomfort compromise with the world, but fail in our being evaluated; and that makes the actual state of our faith and its steadfastness evident to us. To remain dependent upon God for our daily needs means to trust God without doubting His plans, His provisions for us and without taking recourse to the ways of the world, continue to move on the path laid out for us by God, even if it means suffering pain, problems, and discomfort.

In the next article we will consider about being trained for the second and third prayer points.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातों के वास्तविक मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह के बारे में हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में उनके बारे में दिए गए उदाहरणों और हवालों से सीखते आ रहे हैं। प्रेरितों 2:42 में ऐसी चार बातें दी गई हैं, जिनमें से पहली तीन हम देख चुके हैं, और अब चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने, पर विचार कर रहा हैं। मसीहियों में एक बहुत आम रीति है ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ बोलना; इस तथा-कथित प्रार्थना को बचपन से ही रट लिया जाता है, और फिर हर अवसर पर, हर बात के लिए, बिना उसके बारे में सीखे अथवा जाने हुए, उसे बोल दिया जाता है। वर्तमान में हम इसी ‘प्रभु की प्रार्थना’ पर मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर विचार कर रहे हैं। हमने देखा है कि यह वास्तव में प्रभु द्वारा दी गई कोई प्रार्थना नहीं है, वरन परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाओं को बनाने के लिए दी गई एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा है, जिसके अनुसार प्रत्येक मसीही को अपनी व्यक्तिगत प्रार्थनाएं बनानी चाहिएं। यहाँ पर, मत्ती 6:11-13 में, प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को पिता परमेश्वर से तीन बातों को माँगने के लिए कहा है - परमेश्वर पर पूर्ण निर्भरता, क्षमाशील होना, और परीक्षा बचे हुए तथा बुराई से सुरक्षित रहना। इन तीन में से पहली दो बातों के बारे में सीखने के बाद, पिछले लेख से हमने परीक्षा और बुराई से बचने के बारे में सीखना आरम्भ किया है। हमने पिछले लेख में बाइबल के उदाहरणों से देखा है कि उन्हें उनकी वास्तविक आत्मिक दशा से अवगत करवाने के लिए, परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेता है। बाइबल के हवालों के आधार पर हमने देखा है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा, परमेश्वर के प्रति उनके विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की दशा को प्रकट करने के लिए लेता है। इसी सन्दर्भ में, याकूब 1:13 से हमने देखा था कि बुराई या दुष्टता से न तो परमेश्वर किसी की परीक्षा लेता है, और न ही उसकी परीक्षा ली जा सकती है। आज हम यहाँ से आगे बढ़कर, मत्ती 6:13a “हमें परीक्षा में न ला, परन्तु बुराई से बचा” को समझने का प्रयास करेंगे। 

इस पद को पढ़ने पर मन में यही विचार आता है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को किसी ऐसी परीक्षा में क्यों डालेगा, जिसमें शिष्यों के पड़ने से बचे रहने के लिए प्रभु ने कहा है? एक विरोधाभास सा प्रतीत होता है कि पिता परमेश्वर परीक्षा में डालता है जबकि परमेश्वर पुत्र परीक्षा से बचाने की प्रार्थना करने को कहता है। साथ ही यह भी स्वाभाविक है कि जिस परीक्षा से प्रभु बच के रहने के लिए कह रहा है, वह किसी भली बात से सम्बन्धित तो नहीं होगी। पिछले लेख में हमने परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेने से सम्बन्धित कुछ हवालों को देखा था। जब हम उन, तथा उनके समान अन्य हवालों को पढ़ते हैं, तो हमारे सामने यह बात उभर कर आती है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा तब लेता है जब या तो उसे उन्हें कोई बड़ी आशीष देनी होती है, जैसे अब्राहम के साथ हुआ (उत्पत्ति 22:1, 15-19);; और उसके लिए एक बड़ी भलाई की बात थी। या फिर जब उसके लोग, उसके प्रति अपने विश्वास में दुर्बल पड़ने लगते हैं, उस पर सन्देह करते हैं, उसके विरुद्ध कुड़कुड़ाते हैं, जैसा जंगल की यात्रा के दौरान इस्राएलियों ने किया, (निर्गमन 15:25; 16:4; व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:2, 16); या जब वे परमेश्वर के साथ अपने सम्बन्धों और उसके प्रति अपने व्यवहार में निश्चिंत और लापरवाह होने लगते हैं, जैसा कनान में बस जाने के बाद इस्राएलियों के साथ हुआ (न्यायियों 3:4), तथा मृत्यु की कगार से लौटने और जीवन के पन्द्रह अतिरिक्त वर्ष प्राप्त करने के बाद राजा हिजकिय्याह ने किया (2 इतिहास 32:31 तथा यशायाह 39)। इन  आधार पर प्रभु अपने शिष्यों को अब्राहम के समान परीक्षा में पड़ने से तो नहीं रोकेगा, क्योंकि वह तो आशीष के लिए है, भली है। परमेश्वर के लोगों में बुराई आ जाने के साथ जुड़ी हुई दो बातें हैं - जंगल की यात्रा में इस्राएलियों के समान परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने विश्वास में दुर्बल पड़ना, उस पर सन्देह करना, उसके विरुद्ध कुड़कुड़ाना, तथा राजा हिजकिय्याह का और कनान में बसने के बाद इस्राएलियों का परमेश्वर के साथ अपने सम्बन्धों और उसके प्रति अपने व्यवहार में निश्चिंत और लापरवाह हो जाना।

 

इन दोनों नकारात्मक उदाहरणों के लिए अवश्य ही प्रभु अपने शिष्यों को रोकेगा, कभी नहीं चाहेगा कि परमेश्वर के साथ उनके सम्बन्धों और व्यवहार में वे कभी इनमें से किसी भी स्थिति में आएं। इसलिए, इन बातों से तात्पर्य प्रकट है, प्रभु के शिष्य परमेश्वर से किसी ऐसी परीक्षा में पड़ने की स्थिति में तब ही जाएंगे जब या तो वे परमेश्वर के प्रति अपने विश्वास में दुर्बल पड़ने लगेंगे, उसपर सन्देह करने वाले, कुड़कुड़ाने वाले होने लग जाएंगे; या यदि वे परमेश्वर के साथ अपने सम्बन्धों और व्यवहार में निश्चिंत और लापरवाह होने लग जाएंगे। शिष्यों के ऐसी स्थिति में आने पर परमेश्वर उन्हें, परमेश्वर के प्रति उनके विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की वास्तविकता को दिखाने के लिए उन्हें ऐसी स्थितियों, अर्थात परीक्षाओं में लाएगा, जिस से वे अपनी वास्तविक दशा को पहचान लें, और फिर आवश्यक सुधार और पश्चाताप करके, परमेश्वर के साथ सही रीति से जुड़ जाएं। अब, इन बातों पर ध्यान करते हुए, हम यह समझ सकते हैं कि प्रभु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों से यह कहना कि वे प्रार्थना में परमेश्वर से माँगे कि उन्हें परीक्षा में ना आने दे का अर्थ हुआ, परमेश्वर से माँगें कि वह उन्हें कभी उसके प्रति विश्वास में दुर्बल न पड़ने दे, उस पर सन्देह करने और उसके विरुद्ध कुड़कुड़ाने वाला न होने दे, वरन विश्वास और आज्ञाकारिता में सुदृढ़ बनाए रखे; तथा कभी उन्हें परमेश्वर के साथ अपने सम्बन्धों और व्यवहार में निश्चिंत और लापरवाह न होने दे, वरन हमेशा परमेश्वर को अपने जीवनों में सर्वोच्च आदर, स्थान, और महिमा देते रहने वाला बनाए रखे। क्योंकि जब प्रभु के लोग सही बने रहेंगे, तब ही वे परमेश्वर द्वारा परीक्षा में लाए जाने से बचे रहेंगे, अन्यथा नहीं। जब इस दृष्टिकोण से देखा और समझा जाता है तो प्रतीत होने वाला उपरोक्त विरोधाभास का भी समाधान हो जाता है। 

यह भी स्वाभाविक बात है कि जब शिष्यों में कोई बुराई, कोई शैतानी बात आएगी, जब भी वे किसी भी कारण से शैतान की किसी चाल में फँसकर परमेश्वर से दूर होंगे, तब उनमें विद्यमान उस बुराई के कारण वे अवश्य ही इस तरह से परीक्षा में डाले जाने की स्थिति में आ जाएंगे। इसलिए प्रभु ने दोनों बातों को साथ मिलाकर, शिष्यों से परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए कहा कि वे परमेश्वर से माँगें कि उन्हें न तो परीक्षा में पड़ने वाला बनने दे, और न किसी बुराई को उनमें आने दे, जिससे वे किसी भी पाप में गिराए जाकर परमेश्वर से दूर हों, उसपर सन्देह करें, या उसके आदर को कम करें; जिससे उन्हें फिर परीक्षा में पड़ने का सामना करना पड़े। 

अगले लेख में हम देखेंगे कि प्रभु द्वारा शिष्यों को सिखाए गए प्रार्थना के इन तीनों विषयों के लिए परमेश्वर प्रभु के शिष्यों को, उससे इन बातों को माँगने वाले को इनके लिए व्यावहारिक प्रशिक्षण किस तरह से देता है।

We have been learning about the original form and observance of things related to practical Christian living through the examples and references given about them in God’s Word the Bible. Four such things are given in Acts 2:42, and we have seen the first three of them, and are now considering the fourth one, praying. Amongst the Christians, there is a very common ritual, to say the ‘Lord’s Prayer;’ they memorize this so-called prayer from their childhood, and then on every occasion, for everything, it is just repeated by rote, without their understanding or learning anything about it. Presently, we are considering this ‘Lord’s Prayer’ through Matthew 6:5-15. We have seen that actually this is not a prayer that has been given by the Lord, rather, it is an outline, a framework on which prayers acceptable to God have to be built by every Christian. Here, in Matthew 6:11-13, the Lord taught the disciples to ask for three things from God - to be dependent upon God, to be a forgiving person, and to be saved from being tested and kept safe from evil. Having learnt about the first two of these three things, in the last article, we have begun to learn about not being led into temptations and kept safe from evil. We have seen from the Biblical references in the last article that God allows His people to be tested or tempted to make evident to them their actual spiritual condition regarding their faith, obedience, and mind or thought towards Him. In the same context, we have seen from James 1:13 that God neither tests or tempts anybody through any evil, nor can He be tested through evil. Today, we will proceed further from here, consider and understand Matthew 6:13a “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”

On reading this verse, the thought that comes to mind is that why would God put any of His people into any such testing or temptation, for which the Lord is asking the disciples to be kept safe? There seems to be a contradiction here, that God the Father is putting the disciples into a temptation, from which God the Son wants the disciples to pray to be kept safe. Moreover, it is only natural that the temptation from which the Lord wants His disciples to be kept safe, it cannot be something that will bring them some good. In the previous article, we had seen some examples of God testing or tempting His people. When we read them and other similar references, then the thing that becomes apparent is that God tests or tempts His people either when He has to give them some great blessing, as happened with Abraham (Genesis 22:1, 15-19); which was done for a great blessing for him. Or, when His people start becoming weak in their faith towards Him, start doubting Him, start grumbling against Him, as the Israelites did in their wilderness journey (Exodus 15:25; Deuteronomy 8:2, 16); or when they become complacent towards God in their relationship and behavior towards Him, and take Him for granted, as happened with the Israelites after they had settled in Canaan (Judges 3:4), and with King Hezekiah after he had been brought back from the brink of death and given fifteen additional years of life (2 Chronicles 32:31 & Isaiah 39). On the basis of these examples, we see that the Lord will never ask for His disciples to be kept from being tested like Abraham was, since that testing would be for their good, for their blessings. There are two things associated with some evil in the people of God - becoming weak in faith towards God, doubting Him, grumbling against Him, as the Israelites did in their wilderness journey; and like King Hezekiah and the Israelites settled in Canaan, becoming complacent in their relationship and behavior towards God and taking Him for granted.

For these two negative things, the Lord would surely stop His disciples, would never desire that, they ever come in a similar situation in their relationship and behavior towards God. Therefore, from the consideration of these things, the implication is evident that the disciples of the Lord will only come into a situation of being tested or tempted by God if they start becoming weak in their faith towards Him, start doubting Him, start grumbling against Him; or in their relationship and behavior towards Him, they become complacent and start taking Him for granted. If the disciples come into any such situation, to make evident to them the actual state of their faith, obedience, and mentality towards Him, God will bring them into situations, i.e., testing, so that they should realize their actual condition, repent, and rectify the situation, and be restored in their relationship with God. Through analyzing these things, now we can understand why the Lord asked His disciples to ask God not to lead them into temptations; it means to ask God to never let them become weak in their faith on Him, doubt Him, grumble against Him, but keep them strong and well established in their faith towards Him; and never let them become complacent in their relationship and behavior towards Him and take Him from granted, rather make them always give Him the highest honor, place, and glory in their lives. Because only when God’s people remain right, will they be kept from coming under any testing or temptation by God, else they will be brought into temptation or testing. When it is seen from this point of view, then the apparent contradiction mentioned above, gets resolved.

This also is only natural, that if something evil, something devious comes into the disciples, due to any reason whenever they fall for any satanic scheme and move away from God, then because of that evil that has come into them, they will surely land up in a situation where God will have to lead them into being tested or tempted. Therefore, the Lord combined both of these things, and asked the disciples to ask God in prayer to neither lead them into temptation nor let them fall for anything evil; so that they may never fall into any sin, move away from God, doubt Him, or demean Him in any way, and then have to face the testing.

In the next article we will see how God practically trains the disciples, those who ask Him for these three things.

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के उदाहरणों और हवालों के आधार पर हम व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन जीने से सम्बन्धित बातों के मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह के बारे में देख, सीख, और समझ रहे हैं; यह जानने के लिए कि आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी इन बातों को किस तरह से जानते, समझते, और पालन करत थे। हम पहले के लेखों में देख चुके हैं कि व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित बातें हमें वैसे तो सम्पूर्ण बाइबल में स्थान-स्थान पर दी गई हैं; लेकिन प्रेरितों 2 और 15 अध्याय में लिखी गई बातों के साथ यह भी लिखा गया है कि उनके पालन से मसीही विश्वासी सँख्या में, तथा अपने आत्मिक जीवन और मसीही विश्वास में बढ़ते चले गए, और साथ ही कलीसियाएं भी बढ़ती चली गईं। इसलिए हमने प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय में दी गई व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन से सम्बन्धित सात बातों को देखना आरम्भ किया। इन सात में से पहली तीन बातें, प्रेरित पतरस के भक्त यहूदियों को किए गए प्रचार के अन्त की ओर प्रेरितों 2:38-41 में मिलती हैं। ये तीनों बातें मसीही विश्वास में आने और मसीही विश्वास का जीवन आरम्भ करने से सम्बन्धित हैं। शेष चार बातें प्रेरितों 2:42 में मिलती हैं; और जैसा कि इस पद में लिखा है, ये वे बातें हैं जिनका पालन आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी लौलीन होकर किया करते थे। परिणामस्वरूप, वे मसीही विश्वास में दृढ़ और स्थिर होते चले गए, सँख्या में बढ़ते गए, और कलीसियाएं भी बढ़ती चली गईं। यहाँ दी गई इन चार बातों को आज के मसीही भी मानते और पूरा करते हैं, किन्तु वे इन्हें एक रीति के समान लेते हैं, और औपचारिकता पूरी करने के लिए निभाते हैं; इसलिए ये बातें उनके जीवन में प्रभावी नहीं हैं, पहली कलीसिया के विश्वासियों के समान जीवनों में परिवर्तन और सामर्थ्य नहीं ला रही हैं। इन चार में से पहली तीन बातों को देख लेने के बाद, अब हम चौथी बात, प्रार्थना करने के बारे में देख रहे हैं, तथा मत्ती 6:5-15 से हम तथाकथित “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” के बारे में देख रहे हैं। इन पदों से हमने देखा है कि प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को सिखाया कि वे तीन मुख्य बातों का निर्वाह के बारे में परमेश्वर पिता से माँगें; पद 11, परमेश्वर पर पूर्णतः निर्भर रहना; पद 12, प्रभु परमेश्वर के समान औरों को हर कीमत पर सच्चे मन से क्षमा करने वाले होना; पद 13, में परीक्षा में न पड़ने और बुराई से बचे रहने को परमेश्वर से माँगना। हम इन तीन में से पहली दो बातों को देख चुके हैं, और आज पद 13 में परीक्षा और बुराई से सम्बन्धित बात को देखना आरम्भ करेंगे।

 

यहाँ, मत्ती 6:13 में लिखा है “और हमें परीक्षा में न ला, परन्तु बुराई से बचा; क्योंकि राज्य और पराक्रम और महिमा सदा तेरे ही हैं।” आमीन।” इस पद को पढ़ने से यही आभास होता है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेता है, और उसमें वह बुराई का भी प्रयोग कर सकता है। आरम्भिक लेखों में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर के वचन की गलत व्याख्या करने, गलत समझ रखने का सबसे सामान्य कारण है किसी भी बात को उसके सन्दर्भ से बाहर लेकर उसकी व्याख्या करना, और धारणा बनाना। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि सन्दर्भ दो तरह के होते हैं, तात्कालिक - अर्थात उसके आगे-पीछे के अन्य पद और खण्ड; तथा दूर के - अर्थात परमेश्वर के वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई सम्बन्धित बातें। जो भी व्याख्या किसी भी सन्दर्भ में सही नहीं बैठती है, सन्दर्भ से असंगत रहती है, वह गलत है, अस्वीकार्य है। इसी बात को ध्यान में रखते हुए हम मत्ती के इस पद पर विचार करने से पहले, आज हम परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लिए जाने, और उस सन्दर्भ में बुराई का प्रयोग करने के बारे में परमेश्वर के वचन से कुछ बातों को देख और समझ लेते हैं, ताकि हम किसी गलतफहमी में पड़कर कोई गलत व्याख्या न करें, कोई अनुचित धारणा न बना लें।

 

बाइबल यह बहुत स्पष्ट दिखाती है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों की परीक्षा लेता है; नीतिवचन 17:3 में लिखा है कि यहोवा अपने लोगों के मनों को जाँचता है। हम उत्पत्ति 22:1 और इब्रानियों 11:17 में देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर ने इसहाक के सन्दर्भ में अब्राहम की परीक्षा ली; परमेश्वर ने मिस्र के दासत्व से निकल कर कनान जा रहे इस्राएलियों की परीक्षा ली (निर्गमन 15:25; 16:4; व्यवस्थाविवरण 8:2, 16); उन्हें कनान देश में बसाने के बाद भी इस्राएलियों की परीक्षा ली (न्यायियों 3:4); उसने राजा हिजकिय्याह की परीक्षा ली (2 इतिहास 32:31); परमेश्वर मसीही विश्वासियों के विश्वास की वास्तविकता की परीक्षा लेता है (यूहन्ना 6:6; याकूब 1:3; 1 पतरस 1:7), आदि। इन सभी, तथा वचन में दिए गए अन्य हवालों से हम देखते हैं कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों के उसके प्रति विश्वास की, उसकी बातों के प्रति उनकी आज्ञाकारिता की, और उसके प्रति उनकी मनसा की वास्तविकता की परीक्षा लेता है। ऐसा नहीं है कि परमेश्वर लोगों के विश्वास, आज्ञाकारिता, और मनसा की वास्तविक दशा को, वास्तविक स्थिति को जानता नहीं है। 1 कुरिन्थियों 10:13 में लिखा है कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों को उनकी सामर्थ्य से बाहर किसी परीक्षा में पड़ने नहीं देता है, वरन परीक्षा के साथ निकास भी करता है। परमेश्वर तब ही किसी व्यक्ति की सामर्थ्य और क्षमता की सीमा के अन्दर परीक्षा ले सकता है, जब उसे उसकी परीक्षा सहने की क्षमता और सीमा पहले से ही पता होगी; अन्यथा यह पद गलत हो जाएगा। मसीही विश्वासियों की सामर्थ्य और क्षमता की सीमा जानते हुए भी परमेश्वर उन्हें परीक्षा में जाने देने के द्वारा उनके विश्वास और आज्ञाकारिता की दशा उनपर प्रकट करता है, ताकि वे अपने विश्वास और आज्ञाकारिता की स्थिति से अवगत होकर, उचित कदम उठाएं और अपने आप को सुधारें। जो परीक्षा में स्थिर रहता है, वह परमेश्वर से बहुत बड़ा प्रतिफल भी पाता है (याकूब 1:12)।

  

किन्तु परमेश्वर द्वारा इस परीक्षा के लिए जाने के साथ एक अन्य बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात भी जुड़ी हुई है, जिसे हमें ध्यान रखना भी आवश्यक है, और जो याकूब 1:।3 में लिखा है “जब किसी की परीक्षा हो, तो वह यह न कहे, कि मेरी परीक्षा परमेश्वर की ओर से होती है; क्योंकि न तो बुरी बातों से परमेश्वर की परीक्षा हो सकती है, और न वह किसी की परीक्षा आप करता है।” परमेश्वर परीक्षा अवश्य लेता है, किन्तु कभी भी बुराई से किसी की परीक्षा नहीं लेता है। यहाँ पर शब्द “बुराई” को समझना आवश्यक है। जिस मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द का अनुवाद यहाँ पर “बुराई” किया गया है वह दुष्टता, बुरे स्वभाव या विचार, या वह जो परमेश्वर से सुसंगत नहीं है के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है, न कि उसके लिए जो हमें अच्छा न लगे या पसन्द न आए। अर्थात ऐसी बातें जो परमेश्वर से नहीं वरन शैतान से सम्बन्धित हैं। अर्थात इस पद के अर्थ को हम अपने शब्दों में कुछ इस प्रकार भी व्यक्त कर सकते हैं - न तो शैतानी बातों से परमेश्वर की परीक्षा होती है, और ना ही वह ऐसी किसी भी बात से किसी की परीक्षा लेता है।

 

अगले लेख में मत्ती 6:13 को समझने के लिए, हम परीक्षा और बुराई के इन अर्थों का उपयोग करेंगे।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (33)

We have been looking at the original form and observance of things related to practical Christian living from the examples and references of God’s Word the Bible, to learn and understand how the initial Christian Believers used to knew, understood, and followed them. We have seen in the earlier articles that although we find things related to practical Christian living given throughout the Bible, but in the things written in Acts chapters 2 and 15, it has also been said that by obeying them the Christian Believers increased in their numbers, in their spiritual lives and Christian faith, and the churches also continued to grow. Therefore, we have begun by looking at the seven things related to practical Christian living, given in Acts chapter 2. Of these seven things, the first three are related to coming into the Christian faith, and are found towards the end of Peter’s sermon to the devout Jews, in Acts 2:38-41. The remaining four things are given in Acts 2:42; and as is written in this verse, the initial Christian Believers observed them steadfastly. Consequently, they continued to grow and be established in their Christian faith, continued to increase in numbers, and the churches also grew. The four things given here are also followed by the Christians today, but as a ritual, to fulfill a formality. Therefore, these four are not bringing the changes and power, and are not effective in their Christian lives, as they were in the lives of the initial Christians. Having considered the first three of these four, we are now considering about the fourth, i.e., prayer; and from Matthew 6:5-15 are considering about the so-called “Lord’s Prayer.” From these verses we have seen that the Lord taught His disciples to pray and ask God the Father mainly for three things; verse 11, to be fully dependent on God; verse 12, like the Lord God be those who forgive others truly from the heart; verse 13, to ask being kept safe from temptations and evil. Of these three, we have seen the first two, and today will begin to consider from verse 13 about being kept safe from being tempted and evil.

Here, in Matthew 6:13 it is written “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” The impression one gets on reading this verse is that God tempts or tests His people, and for this, He can use evil also. In the earlier articles we had seen that the commonest reason for wrong interpretations and having wrong understandings of Biblical texts is taking them out of their context, and forming concepts. We had also seen that contexts are of two kinds, the immediate - i.e., the verses given before and after the verse under consideration; and remote - i.e., the related things given at other places in God’s Word. Any interpretation that is inconsistent with any of the contexts, is wrong, is unacceptable. Keeping this in mind, today, before beginning to consider this verse from Matthew, we will see and understand about God testing or tempting His people and about evil in this context, so that we do not fall into any misunderstandings, and form any wrong concepts.

The Bible shows very clearly that God does test His people. It says in Proverbs 17:3 that the Lord tests the hearts. We see from Genesis 22:1 and Hebrews 11:17 that God tested Abraham about Issac; God tested the Israelites coming out of slavery from Egypt and journeying to Canaan (Exodus 15:25; 16:4; Deuteronomy 8:2, 16); even after settling them in Canaan, God tested them (Judges 3:4); He tested King Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 32:31); God tests the faith of the Christian Believers (John 6:6; James 1:3; 1 Peter 1:7), etc. In all of these, and in the other references given in the Word, we see that God tests His people for their faith, for their obedience, their hearts towards Him. He does not do it because He does not know the true state of the people’s faith, obedience, and hearts towards Him. It is written in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God does not allow His people to be tested or tempted beyond their strength and abilities, and arranges for ways of escape from the temptation. God can test or tempt a person within his strength and capacity, only when He knows about it beforehand; else this verse will become false. Although knowing about the strengths and capabilities of a person, God still allows him to go into temptations and testing to make them aware of the state of their faith and obedience towards Him, so that they take the proper steps to correct themselves. Those that endure the temptations, will receive a great reward from God (James 1:12).

But there is another very important thing associated with being tempted or tested by God, and we need to keep it in mind. It is written in James 1:13 “Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” God surely tests, but never through any evil. Here it is necessary to understand the word “evil.” The word used in the original Greek language, that has been translated as “evil” here is for things that are not consistent with God, are bad or devious, are of devilish nature and thinking; it is not about anything that we do not like or approve and therefore consider it to be ‘bad.’ Therefore, to understand the meaning of this verse, we can express it something like this - neither is God ever tested by satanic or devilish things, nor does He use any such thing to test or tempt anyone.

In the next article, to understand Matthew 6:13, we will use these meanings about being tested or tempted and evil.

पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि प्रार्थना करना, अर्थात परमेश्वर के साथ वार्तालाप करना, व्यावहारिक मसीही जीवन का एक अभिन्न अँग है। यह परमेश्वर की इच्छा तथा आज्ञा है कि उसके लोग हर समय, हर बात के लिए, उसके साथ वार्तालाप करें, ताकि उससे सही मार्गदर्शन पाकर वे शैतान की युक्तियों से सुरक्षित रह सकें। जैसा प्रेरितों 2:42 में दिया गया है, आरम्भिक मसीही विश्वासी चार बातों में लौलीन रहते थे। उन चार में से चौथी बात प्रार्थना करना है। इन चारों बातों के मूल स्वरूप और निर्वाह को हम परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के उदाहरणों और पदों से देखते और सीखते चले आ रहे हैं। वर्तमान में हम प्रार्थना के बारे में सीखते हुए, मत्ती 6:5-15 के आधार पर हम उस खण्ड पर विचार कर रहे हैं, जिसे सामान्यतः “प्रभु की प्रार्थना” कहा जाता है, और बचपन से ही रट कर मसीहियों द्वारा हर अवसर पर, हर बात के लिए, बिना सोचे-समझे, बोल दिया जाता है। हमने देखा है कि वास्तव में यह कोई प्रार्थना नहीं है, वरन प्रभु यीशु द्वारा अपने शिष्यों को दी गई एक रूपरेखा, एक ढाँचा है, जिसके आधार पर प्रभु के समर्पित एवं आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों के द्वारा परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य प्रार्थनाएं बनाई और कही जा सकती हैं। प्रभु द्वारा दी गई इस रूपरेखा में, प्रभु ने परमेश्वर से माँगने के लिए तीन बातें सिखाई हैं। पिछले लेख में हमने पद 11 में दी गई इन तीन में से पहली बात, परमेश्वर पर पूर्णतः निर्भर होने के बारे में देखा था। आज हम दूसरी बात, क्षमा करने वाला होना के बारे में सीखेंगे।

मत्ती 6:12, में लिखा है, “और जिस प्रकार हम ने अपने अपराधियों को क्षमा किया है, वैसे ही तू भी हमारे अपराधों को क्षमा कर” (मत्ती 6:12), और इसी से सम्बन्धित पद 14-15 लिखा है, “इसलिये यदि तुम मनुष्य के अपराध क्षमा करोगे, तो तुम्हारा स्‍वर्गीय पिता भी तुम्हें क्षमा करेगा। और यदि तुम मनुष्यों के अपराध क्षमा न करोगे, तो तुम्हारा पिता भी तुम्हारे अपराध क्षमा न करेगा”(मत्ती 6:14-15)। प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों को सिखाया है कि क्षमा करने वाला होना, उनके चरित्र का, उनके गुणों का, उनके व्यवहार का एक अभिन्न अँग होना है। उन्हें स्वयं भी परमेश्वर से क्षमा, उनके औरों को क्षमा करने के व्यवहार के अनुसार ही मिलेगी। सम्पूर्ण सुसमाचार का आधार ही क्षमा है। यदि प्रभु यीशु द्वारा दिए गए बलिदान और उसके पुनरुत्थान के आधार पर हमें क्षमा नहीं मिली होती, तो परमेश्वर से हमारा मेल-मिलाप और उससे सम्बन्धित अन्य बातों एवं आशीषों का हमें दिया जाना कदापि सम्भव नहीं था। और अभी भी, यदि परमेश्वर हमारे प्रति सहनशील और क्षमा करने वाला नहीं हो, तो हमारा उसके साथ बने रहना सम्भव नहीं है; क्योंकि हमारा शरीर, हमारा पुराना मनुष्यत्व हमें निरन्तर परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध चलने, पाप करने के लिए उकसाता है, कुछ-न-कुछ गलत करवाता रहता है, जैसा पौलुस ने अपने व्यक्तिगत अनुभव के आधार पर रोमियों 7:15-25 में लिखा है। परमेश्वर ने मूसा पर अपने नाम को जैसा प्रकट किया (निर्गमन 34:5-7), उससे हम परमेश्वर के क्षमा करने और विलम्ब से कोप करने वाला होने को सीखते हैं। प्रभु यीशु की पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के समय उसकी शिक्षाएं और चंगाइयाँ, उसके द्वारा लोगों को क्षमा करने पर ही आधारित थीं। प्रेरित यूहन्ना ने लिखा, “सो कोई यह कहता है, कि मैं उस में बना रहता हूं, उसे चाहिए कि आप भी वैसा ही चले जैसा वह चलता था” (1 यूहन्ना 2:6)। इसलिए यह प्रकट है कि प्रभु के शिष्यों को भी, प्रभु के समान धैर्य रखने, विलम्ब से कोप करने, और क्षमा करने वाला होना चाहिए। उन्हें प्रभु के इस गुण को अपने व्यावहारिक जीवन में दिखाने वाला होना चाहिए; मत्ती 6:14-15 में प्रभु ने इसी बात पर ज़ोर दिया है।

अब, यह तो सामान्य जानकारी है कि क्षमाशील होना प्रभु परमेश्वर का गुण है, उसकी शिक्षा है, और अपने शिष्यों से उसकी अपेक्षा है। सभी जानते हैं कि मसीहियों को प्रभु के समान क्षमाशील होना है; चाहे शायद ही कोई उसे मानता और पालन करता हो। ध्यान कीजिए, मत्ती 6:11-13 में तीन बातें हैं जो प्रभु के लोगों को पिता परमेश्वर से माँगनी हैं। अर्थात ये तीनों, ऐसी बातें हैं जो स्वाभाविक रीति से मसीहियों के जीवन में नहीं आएंगी; और न ही वे स्वयं किसी भी रीति से, अपने प्रयासों और क्षमता से इन्हें अपने अन्दर उत्पन्न करने और विकसित करने पाएंगे। मसीहियों को ये बातें परमेश्वर से ही मिल सकती हैं; और इसीलिए प्रभु ने शिष्यों को सिखाया कि प्रार्थना में परमेश्वर से इन्हें माँगें। किसी को सच्चे मन से, वास्तविक रीति से क्षमा करना भी इन तीन में से एक गुण है। किन्तु, यहाँ पर, इस क्षमा करने वाला होने के गुण से सम्बन्धित एक ऐसी बात है, जिस पर सामान्यतः ध्यान नहीं दिया जाता है। न केवल इसे लालसा के साथ परमेश्वर से माँगना है, वरन इसे अभ्यास के साथ निज जीवन में विकसित और कार्यकारी भी करना है। पुराने नियम में मूसा, और नए नियम में पौलुस इस बात के उत्तम उदाहरण हैं। मिस्र से जान बचा कर भागने के बाद, परमेश्वर ने मूसा को 40 वर्ष तक मूर्ख भेड़ों की चरवाही करना सौंप दिया। मूसा को सहनशीलता सिखाने, धैर्य और क्षमा के साथ रखवाली करते रहना सिखाने का यह परमेश्वर का तरीका था। चालीस वर्ष के प्रशिक्षण के बाद जब मूसा में वे गुण विकसित और स्थापित हो गए, उसके बाद परमेश्वर ने उसे अपने बलवई, ढीठ, अनाज्ञाकारी, और बात-बात में कुड़कुड़ाने वाले लोगों की देखभाल सौंपी, कि वह उन्हें मिस्र से निकाल कर कनान देश तक लाए। पौलुस का जीवन भी कठिनाइयों, परेशानियों, लोगों के विरोध तथा उसके विरुद्ध कार्य करने, षड्यन्त्र रचने, मसीहियों और कलीसियाओं से धोखे मिलने से भरा हुआ था (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:8-12; 11:23-28)। लेकिन पौलुस ने अपने विरोधियों और सताने वालों के विरोध में कुछ नहीं कहा। न केवल मूसा और पौलुस, वरन परमेश्वर के नबियों को भी अपने ही लोगों से सताव, विरोध, विद्रोह, आदि का सामना करना पड़ा, सहना पड़ा; लेकिन वे अपने सताने वालों के विरुद्ध बिना कुछ कहे, बस परमेश्वर के दिखाए और बताए मार्ग पर चलते रहे, अपनी सेवकाई को करते रहे।

 

यह आज हमारे लिए क्या व्यावहारिक शिक्षा रखता है? प्रभु के शिष्य को क्षमाशील होना है; इसका कोई विकल्प नहीं है। क्षमाशीलता का यह गुण वह स्वयं अपने अन्दर उत्पन्न और विकसित नहीं कर सकता है; उसे यह पिता परमेश्वर से ही मिलेगा, और उसे इसे प्रार्थना में माँगना होगा। इस गुण का मिलना ही काफी नहीं है, इसे विकसित एवं प्रभावी भी करना होता है, तब ही वह मसीही सेवकाई में कार्यकारी होने पाता है। इसे विकसित और प्रभावी करने के प्रशिक्षण के लिए मूसा, पौलुस, और परमेश्वर के अन्य लोगों के समान, कठिन और दुखदायी परिस्थितियों से होकर निकलना पड़ता है। बिना इस प्रशिक्षण के, यह हमारे जीवनों में प्रभावी नहीं होगा, और हम प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी नहीं बनेंगे। अब, इस सन्दर्भ में, अपने सताव के बारे में लिखने के बाद, पौलुस जो बात कहता है, उसपर ध्यान कीजिए “इसलिये हम हियाव नहीं छोड़ते; यद्यपि हमारा बाहरी मनुष्यत्‍व नाश भी होता जाता है, तौभी हमारा भीतरी मनुष्यत्‍व दिन प्रतिदिन नया होता जाता है। क्योंकि हमारा पल भर का हल्का सा क्‍लेश हमारे लिये बहुत ही महत्‍वपूर्ण और अनन्त महिमा उत्पन्न करता जाता है। और हम तो देखी हुई वस्‍तुओं को नहीं परन्तु अनदेखी वस्‍तुओं को देखते रहते हैं, क्योंकि देखी हुई वस्तुएं थोड़े ही दिन की हैं, परन्तु अनदेखी वस्तुएं सदा बनी रहती हैं” (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:16-18)। वह अपने मसीही जीवन भर के घोर क्लेष, सताव, और बैर-विरोध सहते रहने को “पल भर का हल्का सा क्‍लेश” कहता है, जिसके कारण उसे अनन्तकाल के लिए “बहुत ही महत्‍वपूर्ण और अनन्त महिमा उत्पन्न” होती जाती है। और फिर, अपने पृथ्वी के जीवन के अन्त के समय वह बिना किसी डर या दुर्भावना के कह सका “क्योंकि अब मैं अर्घ के समान उंडेला जाता हूं, और मेरे कूच का समय आ पहुंचा है। मैं अच्छी कुश्‍ती लड़ चुका हूं मैं ने अपनी दौड़ पूरी कर ली है, मैं ने विश्वास की रखवाली की है। भविष्य में मेरे लिये धर्म का वह मुकुट रखा हुआ है, जिसे प्रभु, जो धर्मी, और न्यायी है, मुझे उस दिन देगा और मुझे ही नहीं, वरन उन सब को भी, जो उसके प्रगट होने को प्रिय जानते हैं” (2 तीमुथियुस 4:6-8)।

 

मत्ती 6:12 में दी गई यह ‘प्रार्थना’ उसके रटे हुए स्वरूप में, बिना सोचे-समझे बोल देनी तो बहुत सरल है; किन्तु परमेश्वर की सामर्थ्य, सहायता, और मार्गदर्शन के बिना उसका निर्वाह करना सम्भव नहीं है। प्रभु के सच्चे, समर्पित, आज्ञाकारी शिष्यों के लिए भी इस ‘प्रार्थना’ के प्रशिक्षण से होकर निकलना आसान नहीं है। किन्तु जो इसे निभाते हैं, वे अपने अनन्तकाल के लिए कितनी और कैसी आशीषें जमा कर लेते हैं, ये हम वहाँ पहुँच कर ही देख और समझ सकेंगे। अगले लेख में हम प्रभु द्वारा प्रार्थना के लिए दिए गए तीसरे विषय पर विचार करेंगे।

 

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Four Pillars of Christian Living - 4 - Prayer (32)

In the previous articles we have seen that prayer, i.e., conversing with God, is an integral part of practical Christian living. It is God’s will and command that His people converse with Him continually, for everything, to receive His guidance and remain safe from the wiles of the devil. As given in Acts 2:42, the initial Christian Believers used to steadfastly observe four things. The fourth of those four is praying. We have been learning about the original form and observance of these four through the examples and references about them in God’s Word the Bible. Presently, while learning about prayer, on the basis of Matthew 6:5-15 we are looking at a passage which is commonly known as the “Lord’s Prayer,” and the Christians usually memorize it in their childhood, and then keep repeating it by rote on every occasion and for everything, without ever trying to think and understand about it. We have seen that actually it is not a ‘prayer’, it is rather an outline, a framework, based on which the Christians can build their individual prayer to be acceptable to God. In this outline given by the Lord there are three things that the Lord has said should be asked from God. In the previous article, we have seen from verse 11 about being totally dependent upon God. Today we will see the second thing, about being one who forgives others.

It is written in Matthew 6:12 “And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors” and then in the related verses 14-15 it is written “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” The Lord has taught His disciples that to be forgiving towards others is to be an integral part of their character, their attributes, and their behavior. They will receive forgiveness from God in a manner similar to the way they forgive others. The basis of the entire gospel is forgiveness. Had God not forgiven us based on the sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, then we would never have been reconciled with God and would have never received the other related things and blessings from God. And even now, if God is not patient and forgiving towards us, then it will not be possible for us to continue with Him; since our flesh, our old self, continually keeps provoking us to walk contrary to God, commit sin, do something wrong, just as Paul on the basis of His own experiences, writes in Romans 7:15-25. From the way God has revealed His name to Moses (Exodus 34:5-7), from it we learn about the longsuffering and forgiving nature of God. During the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus, His teachings and His healings were based on forgiving people. The Apostle John wrote, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). Therefore, it is evident that the Lord’s disciples, like the Lord, should be patient, longsuffering, and forgiving. They should demonstrate this attribute of the Lord in their lives; in Matthew 6:14-15, the Lord has emphasized upon this.

Now, this is common knowledge that being forgiving is an attribute of the Lord God. Everyone knows that like their Lord, the Christians too should be forgiving; even though hardly anyone actually demonstrates it in their lives. Take note that in Matthew 6:11-13, there are three things given, which the people of God have to ask from God the Father. In other Words, these three are things that do not naturally come into the lives of the Christian Believers; and neither can the Christians, through any efforts or capabilities of their own, create and develop them in their lives. The Christians can only receive these things from God; and that is why the Lord taught to ask God for them. To be able to truly forgive someone in their heart, is also one of these three attributes. But here, associated with this attribute of truly being able to forgive someone from their heart, there is a thing, which is hardly ever given any thought. Not only do we have to sincerely desire and ask for this attribute, but it has to be developed by practicing it, to make it effective in our lives. Moses in the Old Testament, and Paul in the New Testament, are two excellent examples of this. After Moses ran for his life from Egypt, to teach him to be patient, longsuffering, and keep caring with a forgiving heart, God gave him the task of shepherding dumb sheep to train Moses for 40 years. When after forty years of practical training, these attributes developed and got established in Moses, it was then that God gave him the task of delivering His rebellious, stiff-necked, disobedient people who would be murmuring for everything, out of Egypt and take them to Canaan. Paul’s Christian life was also full of difficulties, problems, opposition, people working against him, conspiring against him, and his facing betrayal from the Christian Believers and the churches (2 Corinthians 4:8-12; 11:23-28). But Paul never said anything against those who opposed him and created problems for him. Not just Moses and Paul, but all the prophets of God had to face opposition, problems, rebellions from their own people. But without saying anything against those tormenting them, they just persevered on the way shown and told to them by God, fulfilling their ministry.

What lessons in practical Christian living does this put before us? The disciple of the Lord has to be forgiving, there is no alternative. This attribute of being forgiving cannot be created and developed by anyone within themselves. They will have to pray and ask God for it, and receive it from Him. But it is not enough to just receive this attribute, they will have to develop it and make it effective, only then can it be of use in the life of a Christian. To develop it and make it effective, like for Moses, Paul, and other people of God, one has to pass through difficult and painful circumstances and experiences. Without such training, it will not become effective in our lives, and we will not become useful for the Lord. Now, in this context, please take note of what Paul had to say after writing about the persecutions and problems he had to suffer, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Paul is calling the severe sufferings, persecutions, opposition, hatred, etc. that he suffered throughout his Christian life as “our light affliction, which is but for a moment,” because of which, for eternity he is accumulating “a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” And then, towards the end of his time on earth, without any fear or malice towards anyone, he could say “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

This ‘prayer’ given in Matthew 6:12, in the way it is spoken by rote, without understanding it or paying any attention to it, seems very easy to say; but without God’s strength, submission to Him, help from Him, and His guidance, it is impossible to carry it out. It is not easy even for the true, surrendered, obedient disciples of the Lord to go through the training of this ‘prayer.’ But those who do go through it, how many and what kind of glorious rewards they accumulate for themselves, we will only be able to know once we reach there. In the next article we will consider the third prayer topic that the Lord has given in this ‘prayer.’

Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
