    प्रभु भोज के बारे में इस बाइबल अध्ययन में, अभी तक, हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:17-32 से देखा है कि पौलुस प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से संबंधित कुरिन्थुस के मसीही विश्वासियों की गलतियों और कमजोरियों को प्रकट करने और उनकी भर्त्सना करने में बहुत स्पष्टवादी था और उसने अपनी बात कहने के लिए बिल्कुल भी कोई भी समझौता नहीं किया। वह उन्हें स्मरण दिलाता है कि मसीही विश्वासी होने के नाते उन्हें अवश्य ही प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना है, किन्तु उसे एक रीति समझ कर औपचारिकता पूरी करने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि योग्य रीति से, अर्थात, उस प्रकार से जैसा परमेश्वर ने उसके लिए कहा है कि यह किया जाए। प्रभु भोज में भाग लेना भोजन खाना नहीं है, बल्कि सांकेतिक है। यह प्रभु यीशु और उसके बलिदान की याद में, तथा उसकी मृत्यु तथा शीघ्र ही लौट कर आने का प्रचार करने के लिए है। भाग लेने वालों को पहले अपने आप को जाँच लेना चाहिए, प्रभु के सामने अपने पाप मान लेने चाहिएँ, प्रभु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगनी चाहिए, और क्षमा प्राप्त करने के पश्चात योग्य रीति से भाग लेना चाहिए। जो अपने आप को जाँचते नहीं हैं, परंतु परमेश्वर के वचन और निर्देशों को हलके में लेते हैं, उसके महत्व को नहीं समझते हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में औपचारिकता पूरी करने के लिए रीति के समान भाग लेते हैं; उन्हें फिर इसके लिए परमेश्वर का सामना करना पड़ेगा - उसके द्वारा उन्हें जाँचे जाने, उनका न्याय करने, और उनकी ढिठाई के साथ अनाज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने के लिए उसकी ताड़ना का भी। परमेश्वर की ताड़ना बहुत कठोर भी हो सकती है, गलती करने वाले व्यक्ति के निर्बल होने से, बीमार होने, और उसकी मृत्यु तक भी।

    पवित्र आत्मा जिस अगले विषय पर पौलुस से चर्चा करवाना चाहता है, उसे आरंभ करने से पहले, 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:33-34 के द्वारा प्रभु भोज से संबंधित इस चर्चा को समाप्त करता है। पौलुस इस विषय को उसी मुद्दे के साथ अन्त करता है, जिसके साथ उसने इसे आरंभ किया था - मसीही विश्वासियों में परस्पर एकता और प्रभु भोज का दुरुपयोग, सांकेतिक रीति से भाग लेने के स्थान पर उसे एक पूरा भोजन बना लेना; पौलुस इस मुद्दे को प्रभु भोज पर इस चर्चा के लिए कोष्ठकों के समान प्रयोग करता है। इससे कलीसिया या मण्डली में एकता बनाए रखने तथा मसीही जीवन में प्रभु की मेज़ में योग्य रीति से भाग लेने की समझ रखने के महत्व को भी बल मिलता है।

    पौलुस पद 33 का आरंभ “इसलिए” के साथ करता है, अर्थात, यह तात्पर्य देने के द्वारा कि उपरोक्त पर ध्यान देने बाद अब अन्त की बात यह है कि प्रभु भोज में भाग व्यक्तिगत रीति से नहीं परंतु कलीसिया के रूप में एक साथ लेना है, और भाग लेने वालों को भाग लेने से पहले एक-दूसरे के लिए प्रतीक्षा करनी है। लोग अपने आप को जाँच रहे होंगे, और कुछ को यह करने में औरों से अधिक समय भी लग सकता है। जैसे प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने पहला प्रभु भोज उसके साथ एकत्रित शिष्यों को सामूहिक रीति से दिया था, उसी प्रकार से आज प्रभु के जो शिष्य प्रभु भोज के लिए एकत्रित होते हैं, उन्हें भी एक-साथ, सामूहिक रीति से भाग लेना है। ऐसा करना परस्पर एक-दूसरे का ध्यान रखने तथा आदर करने का संकेत और कलीसिया में एकता का चिह्न है। कलीसिया, अर्थात, प्रभु की देह और दुल्हन की इस एकता को कमजोर करने या तोड़ने के लिए किसी को भी, कभी भी, कुछ नहीं करना चाहिए। उनकी सामाजिक, आर्थिक, शैक्षिक, धार्मिक अथवा सांस्कृतिक पृष्ठभूमि चाहे जो भी हो, सभी को, अपने आप को एक ही स्तर पर लेकर आना है कि वे भी अन्य लोगों के समान, परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह और प्रभु यीशु मसीह के द्वारा उनके लिए दिए गए बलिदान के कारण (रोमियों 1:14; 12:16; कुलुस्सियों 3:11; तीतुस 3:3-5), परमेश्वर द्वारा पापों से छुड़ाए और बचाए गए लोग हैं। यदि प्रभु के लोग अपने बारे में यह दृष्टिकोण रखते हुए नहीं रहेंगे, तो शैतान को आपस में फूट और मतभेद उत्पन्न करने तथा कलीसिया की एकता को भंग करने और उसके सुचारु संचालन को बाधित कर देने का अवसर हमेशा बना रहेगा।

    अगले लेख में हम अपने इस विचाराधीन खण्ड के पद 34 को देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Settle Issues & Maintain Unity (1)

    In this study on the Holy Communion, so far, from 1 Corinthians 11:17-32 we have seen that Paul was very forthright and uncompromising in exposing and denouncing the errors and short-comings of the Corinthians for their participation in the Lord’s Table. He reminds them that as Christian Believers, they do have to partake of the Table, but not as a ritual, not as a formality, but worthily, i.e., in the manner God has said it should be done. Participation in the Holy Communion is not eating of food, but symbolic. It is for remembering the Lord Jesus and His sacrifice, a proclamation of His death and imminent return. The participants have to first examine themselves, confess their sins to the Lord, ask His forgiveness for them, and having been pardoned, then to participate in the Lord’s Table worthily. Those who do not examine themselves, but take God and His instructions, His Word for granted, participate in it as a formality, as if it is a ritual, they will then have to contend with God and with His examining them, judging them, and chastising them for their stubbornness and persistent disobedience. God’s chastisement can be quite severe, ranging from the errant person becoming weak, or sick, even to his death.

    In 1 Corinthians 11:33-34 Paul concludes his discourse on the Holy Communion, before moving on to the next topic the Holy Spirit wants him to address. Paul closes with the same issue that he began this discussion with - unity amongst the Believers and misuse of the Table as a full-fledged meal instead of a symbolic participation; Paul uses this issue like the opening and closing parentheses for this topic of the Holy Communion. But this also underlines the importance of this unity in Church and proper understanding of participating in the Lord’s Table in Christian life.

    Paul begins verse 33 with “therefore”, meaning having considered the above, now the conclusion of the matter is that the Holy Communion is not for individual participation but for collective participation by the Church, and the participants have to wait for each other, before taking part. There will be people who will be examining their lives, preparing themselves to participate worthily, and some may take longer than others to do this. Just as the Lord Jesus gave the first Holy Communion collectively to the disciples gathered with Him, so too the disciples of the Lord that now gather for His Communion have to participate collectively. It is a sign and indicator of mutual respect and care, of unity in the Church. Nothing should be done to undermine or break this unity in the Church, i.e., the Body and Bride of Christ. Rather, everyone, irrespective of their social, financial, educational, ethnic, or any other status, has to bring himself to the same level as the others; consider himself only as one of the redeemed of God, like all the others are, he too has been saved from his sins by the grace of God on the basis of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ for them (Romans 1:14; 12:16; Colossians 3:11; Titus 3:3-5). Unless the Lord’s people live with this viewpoint about themselves in the Church, Satan will always have an opportunity to sow seeds of discord and to disrupt the unity and smooth functioning of the Church.

    In the next article we will look at verse 34 of our passage under consideration.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    पिछले लेख में हमने नए नियम से, ढिठाई से पाप और सांसारिकता में बने रहने वाले उसके लोगों को, परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई ताड़नाओं और दंड के उदाहरणों को देखा था। इसी प्रकार से, मेज में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेते रहने वाले लोग भी अपने लिए परमेश्वर से इसी व्यवहार को निमंत्रण देते हैं। यह बात केवल नए नियम के मसीही कहलाने वाले लोगों के लिए ही नहीं है। पुराने नियम में भी परमेश्वर ने अपने लोगों, इस्राएलियों के साथ ऐसा ही व्यवहार किया, उन की ढिठाई के लिए उन्हें घोर ताड़नाओं और दण्ड दिये। आज हम पुराने नियम से इसके कुछ उदाहरण देखेंगे।

    हम पुराने नियम में भी देखते हैं कि व्यवस्थाविवरण अध्याय 28-30 में मूसा इस्राएलियों के सामने  परमेश्वर के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता के लिए आशीषों और अनाज्ञाकारिता के लिए श्रापों को बताता है। परमेश्वर के लोगों इस्राएल की अनाज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने के कारण उनपर आने वाले श्राप 28:15-68 में दिए गए हैं, और अध्याय के अंत तक तीव्रता में बढ़ते ही चले जाते हैं। परमेश्वर मूसा के द्वारा 29:18-28 में कहता है कि न केवल लोग, वरन उनका देश भी श्रापित और उजाड़ हो जाएगा (29:23)। जब मूसा यह बात इस्राएलियों से कह रहा था, वे दूध और मधु की बहती धाराओं वाले देश में (गिनती 13:27) प्रवेश करने के लिए तैयार हो रहे थे; परन्तु परमेश्वर उन्हें चेतावनी देता है कि यदि वे उसे हल्के में लेंगे, उसकी अनाज्ञाकारिता करेंगे, और चिताए जाने पर भी पश्चाताप नहीं करेंगे, तो फिर उन्हें तथा उनके देश दोनों को ही परिणाम भुगतने पड़ेंगे, और उनकी आशीषें दुख और उजाड़ होने में बदल जाएंगी। हमें इसी बात को हाग्गै की पुस्तक में, हाग्गै 1:5-11; 2:15-17 में दिखाया गया है, क्योंकि इस्राएलियों ने परमेश्वर के प्रति उनकी ज़िम्मेदारी को हलके में लिया और उसे एक-किनारे कर दिया था। न्यायियों की पुस्तक, शिमशोन का उदाहरण, इस्राएल का 70 वर्ष के लिए राजा नबूकदनेस्सर तथा कसदियों के हाथों बंधुवाई में जाना (2 इतिहास 36:14-21), आदि, सभी इस बात के उदाहरण हैं कि परमेश्वर अपने लोगों पर भी बहुत कठोर दण्ड लाता है, यदि वे अपनी ढिठाई में बने रहें और परमेश्वर को हलके में लेते रहें, उसकी अनाज्ञाकारिता में बने रहने, और यह मान कर चलते रहें कि परमेश्वर तो दयालु, अनुग्रहकारी, विलंब से कोप करने वाला है, इसलिए वे किसी हानि में पड़ने से बचे रहेंगे। वे लोग यह भूल जाते हैं कि परमेश्वर विलंब से कोप करने वाला तो है, किन्तु कभी कोप नहीं करने वाला नहीं है; परमेश्वर भस्म करने वाली आग भी है (व्यवस्थाविवरण 4:24; इब्रानियों 12:29)। यह बहुत आवश्यक है कि, उसे गंभीरता से ना लेने वालों के लिए उसके द्वारा दी गई चेतावनियों के, और, उसके वचन में दिए गए उसके गुणों, निर्देशों आधार पर, सदा ही परमेश्वर के बारे में एक संतुलित एवं वास्तविक दृष्टिकोण रखा जाए, निभाया जाए।

    परमेश्वर ने नूह के दिनों में, मनुष्य की दुष्टता को देखते हुए कहा था, “मेरा आत्मा मनुष्य से सदा लों विवाद करता न रहेगा” (उत्पत्ति 6:3)। पौलुस ने रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को अविश्वासी इस्राएलियों के परिणाम, तथा विश्वास करने वाले अन्य-जातियों की आशीष को उन्हें याद दिलाते हुए कहा, “इसलिये परमेश्वर की कृपा और कड़ाई को देख! जो गिर गए, उन पर कड़ाई, परन्तु तुझ पर कृपा, यदि तू उस में बना रहे, नहीं तो, तू भी काट डाला जाएगा” (रोमियों 11:22)। प्रभु की मेज़ केवल प्रभु यीशु को, उसके पापी मनुष्यों के प्रति प्रेम और उसके बलिदान के द्वारा मनुष्यों के पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार के उपलब्ध किए जाने को याद करने ही के लिए नहीं है। यह उनके लिए, जो प्रभु यीशु मसीह के अनुयायी होने का दावा करते हैं, स्वयं को प्रभु के लोग और परमेश्वर की संतान कहते हैं, और इसलिए अपने आप को प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने के हकदार समझते हैं, उनके लिए मेज़ में भाग लेने से पहले अपने आप को सही प्रकार से जाँच लेने और अपने आप को ठीक कर लेने के लिए आह्वान भी है, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि परमेश्वर को उन्हें जाँचना और उनके साथ उचित व्यवहार करना पड़ जाए। कभी भी किसी को भी, विशेषकर नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों को, इस पूर्व-धारणा के साथ नहीं रहना चाहिए कि परमेश्वर उनके अनुचित और पथभ्रष्ट व्यवहार के साथ निभाने के लिए अपने स्तर और मानकों में फेर-बदल करेगा। बल्कि, परमेश्वर के मानकों और निर्देशों के अनुसार, जो उसके वचन में दिए गए हैं, उन्हें अपने आप को ठीक करना है, नहीं तो परिणाम भुगतने के लिए तैयार रहें।

    यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (4)

    In the previous article we had seen the chastisements and punishment given by God to His people, who stubbornly persisted in their lives of sin and compromising with the world. Similarly, those who participate in the Lord’s Table unworthily, invite a similar treatment from God upon themselves. God dealt with His people the Israelites, in a similar manner, chastised and punished them for their stubbornness. Today, we will see some examples of this from the Old Testament.

    In the Old Testament we see in Deuteronomy chapters 28-30, that Moses recounts to Israel the blessings and curses for their obedience and disobedience to God. The curses upon God’s people Israel for their persistent disobedience to God are given in 28:15-68, and continually increase in severity till the end of the chapter. In 29:18-28 God says through Moses that not only the people, but even their land will be cursed and become waste (29:23). When Moses is speaking this to the Israelites, they were getting ready to enter a land flowing with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27), but God warns them that if they treat Him lightly, disobey Him and refuse to repent when admonished for their disobedience, then they as well as their land will suffer the consequences, their blessings will be replaced with wasting and suffering. We see the same thing stated in Haggai 1:5-11; 2:15-17 for Israel’s taking their responsibility towards God lightly and side-tracking it. The book of Judges, the example of Samson, Israel’s 70-year captivity and dispersion at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar and the Chaldeans (2 Chronicles 36:14-21), are all examples of God inflicting severe chastisement upon His people for their taking God lightly, persistently disobeying Him, while thinking they can get away with it since God is merciful, gracious, longsuffering God. They forgot that though He is longsuffering, but He is not ‘forever-suffering’ God; He is also a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24; Hebrews 12:29). It is imperative to always maintain a factual and balanced view of God, on the basis of His characteristics, His instructions, and the warnings that He has given in His Word, for those who do not take Him and His Word seriously, and behave accordingly.

    God, seeing the wickedness of mankind, had said in the days of Noah “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever” (Genesis 6:3). Paul reminds the Roman Believers about the fate of the unbelieving Israelites, and about the grace they who had believed have experienced, “Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off” (Romans 11:22). The Lord’s Table is not only a call for remembering the Lord Jesus, His love for sinful man, and the forgiveness of sins for the salvation of mankind made available through His sacrifice because of that love. It is also a call for all who claim to be followers of the Lord Jesus, those who call themselves the people and children of God and therefore feel entitled to participate in His Communion, to learn to properly examine and correct themselves before participating in the Lord’s Table, lest God has to judge and appropriately deal with them. No one, least of all the Born-Again children of God should presume that God will alter His standards to accommodate their wayward behavior. Instead, they have to correct themselves, and set themselves right according to God’s standards and instructions, given in His Word, else suffer the consequences.

    If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision.     प्रभु भोज में अनुचित रीति से भाग लेने से संबंधित पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि यदि भाग लेने वाले परमेश्वर के निर्देशों को हलके में लेते हैं, अपने आप को ठीक से नहीं जाँचते हैं, अपने पापों का अंगीकार नहीं करते हैं, उनके लिए परमेश्वर से क्षमा नहीं मांगते हैं, योग्य रीति से मेज़ में भाग नहीं लेते हैं; यदि भाग लेने वाले मेज़ में एक रीति के अनुसार औपचारिकता निभाते हुए भाग लेते हैं, अपने आप को ठीक नहीं करते हैं, तो फिर अन्ततः परमेश्वर को हस्तक्षेप करना ही पड़ता है और उनका न्याय करके उनकी ढिठाई के लिए उन्हें ताड़ना देनी ही पड़ती है। हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:27 में ताड़ना के स्तरों को देखते हैं - परमेश्वर के ढीठ और पथभ्रष्ट व्यवहार में बने रहने वाली संतान की ताड़ना का आरंभ निर्बल हो जाने से होता है, जो आगे बढ़ कर रोगी हो जाने पर आती है, और अन्ततः मृत्यु तक चली जाती है। किन्तु परमेश्वर चाहता है कि पहले परमेश्वर के बच्चे स्वयं अपने आप को जाँच लें, अपने पापों, गलतियों, और कमजोरियों के बारे में ईमानदार हो जाएं, बजाए इसके कि उसे हस्तक्षेप करके उनकी ताड़ना भी करनी पड़े।

    फिर हमें पद 32 में परमेश्वर द्वारा किए जाने वाले न्याय और दी जाने वाली ताड़ना के कारण को बताया गया है - “इसलिये कि हम संसार के साथ दोषी न ठहरें।” ध्यान कीजिए यह पद यह नहीं कह रहा कि “इसलिये कि हम संसार के साथ नाश हो जाएं।” बल्कि, कहने का अभिप्राय है कि परमेश्वर को ढिठाई से बुराई में बने रहने वाली अपनी संतान के साथ, जो अयोग्य रीति से प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते रहते हैं, संसार के अविश्वासी लोगों के समान वैसी ही कठोरता के साथ व्यवहार न करना पड़ जाए। एक बार फिर, यद्यपि यह संभव नहीं लगता है कि परमेश्वर उसकी संतानों के लिए ऐसा कुछ भी करेगा, परंतु जैसे कि हम पहले इब्रानियों 12:8, अर्थात ताड़ना के बारे में देख चुके हैं, ढिठाई से बुराई में बने रहने पर परमेश्वर द्वारा अपने बच्चों के न्याय की ऐसी कठोरता के भी बाइबल में पर्याप्त ही नहीं उससे भी कहीं अधिक स्पष्ट उदाहरण और प्रमाण विद्यमान हैं। पौलुस इसी बात को रोमियों 8:6, 13 में व्यक्त करता है - रोम के मसीही विश्वासियों को संबोधित करते हुए कहता है कि यदि वे शरीर के अनुसार जीएंगे, तो मृत्यु को भी सहना पड़ेगा। प्रेरितों 5:1-11 में हनन्याह और सफीरा का उदाहरण है - उन्हें परमेश्वर से झूठ बोलने और अवसर दिए जाने पर पश्चाताप न करने के लिए मृत्यु को सहना पड़ा। पौलुस, 1 कुरिन्थियों 5:1-5 में घोर व्यभिचार को सहन करने के लिए कलीसिया को डाँटता है और उस पाप में पड़े हुए कलीसिया के सदस्य के लिए कहता है, “शरीर के विनाश के लिये शैतान को सौंपा जाए, ताकि उस की आत्मा प्रभु यीशु के दिन में उद्धार पाए” - अर्थात शैतान के हाथों शरीर को दुख उठाने दो जिससे आत्मा अनन्त काल के लिए उद्धार पाए।

    अगले लेख में हम पुराने नियम में परमेश्वर द्वारा लोगों को ढिठाई से पापमय आचरण में बने रहने के लिए दी गई ताड़नाओं के बारे में देखेंगे।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (3)

    In the previous article regarding God’s judgment for unworthily participating in the Holy Communion we had seen that if the participant takes God’s instructions lightly, fails to properly examine himself, to confess his sins, to seek God’s forgiveness for them, and only then partake worthily; if the participant does it ritually as a formality, and fails to correct himself, then eventually, God has to intervene, judge him and chasten him for his stubbornness. In 1 Corinthians 11:27 we had seen the gradation of God’s chastening - starts with weakness, worsens to sickness, and ultimately can even result in death of the stubbornly errant child of God. But God desires that first, the children of God should judge themselves, be honest about their sins, errors, and short-comings, instead of Him having to intervene and chasten them.

    Then, in verse 32, is given to us the reason God judges and chastens His children - “that we may not be condemned with the world.” Take note, this verse is not saying “that we may not perish with the world.” Rather, what it implies is, so that God may not have to judge His stubbornly resistant children, who persist in their disobedience and unworthily participating in the Lord’s Table, just as harshly, or with the same severity, as He will judge and punish the people of world, for their unbelief. Again, while this may seem to be an unlikely thing to come from God for His children, His people, but as we have seen for Hebrews 12:8 i.e., for chastening, this expression of the severity of God’s judgment too has ample and enough Biblical support. There are very clear unambiguous warnings and examples of varying degrees of severity of punishment given by God to His people for their persistence in sins. Paul echoes the same thought in Romans 8:6, 13 - addressing the Roman Believers, he tells them that if they live in the flesh, live with a carnal mind, then they will suffer death. In Acts 5:1-11, we have the example of Ananias and Sapphira - they suffered death for lying to God and not repenting when the opportunity was given to them. In 1 Corinthians 5:1-5, Paul admonishing the Church for tolerating gross sexual immorality, says for that errant Church member, “deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus” – i.e., let the body suffer at the hands of Satan so that the spirit is saved for eternity.

    In the next article we will see the Old Testament examples of God's chastisement for their stubbornly persisting in sinful behavior.

    पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपने बच्चों, अपने लोगों से असीम प्रेम करता है, उन्हें नाश होते देखना नहीं चाहता है, और उन्हें वापस अपने साथ बहाल करने के लिए हर प्रयास करता है, आवश्यकता के अनुसार उनकी ताड़ना भी करता है। हम यह बात अदन की वाटिका से लेकर, नूह द्वारा जहाज बनाए जाने, फिर इस्राएल के इतिहास, और अब वास्तव में नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों के साथ परमेश्वर के व्यवहार में देखते हैं। आज हम, इसकी तुलना में, अविश्वासियों के साथ, उनके साथ जो परमेश्वर की सन्तान नहीं हैं, उनके पाप के प्रति परमेश्वर के व्यवहार के बारे में देखेंगे।

    यहाँ 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:31 में, पवित्र आत्मा पौलुस प्रेरित में होकर मसीही विश्वासियों को बचने का मार्ग दिखा रहा है - परमेश्वर अपनी दया, अनुग्रह, और धैर्य में होकर प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वालों को अवसर दे रहा है कि वे अपने आप को सही कर लें और फिर उचित रीति से भाग लें। उन लोगों को, जिनमें पौलुस भी सम्मिलित था, पहले अपने आप को जाँचना है, और तब ही भाग लेना है; ऐसा करने के द्वारा वे अपने आप को परमेश्वर द्वारा जाँचे जाने से बचा लेंगे। लेकिन एक बार फिर, यह ध्यान रखना है कि व्यक्ति द्वारा अपने आप को जाँचना कोई ऊपरी और हल्के में किया गया, निष्ठा रहित, निरर्थक, मात्र औपचारिकता निभाने वाला कार्य न हो, जिसका उद्देश्य केवल परमेश्वर के निर्देश के शब्दों का पालन करना हो न कि उन शब्दों के भावार्थ का निर्वाह करना। एक बार फिर ध्यान कीजिए, कोई भी परमेश्वर का मूर्ख नहीं बना सकता है; परमेश्वर अपने निर्णय स्वयं लेता है, अपने मानकों के अनुसार, अपनी विधियों के द्वारा, न कि किसी मनुष्यों की बनाई विधि अथवा कसौटी के या सिफारिश के अनुसार। जो कोई भी परमेश्वर का मूर्ख बनाने का प्रयास करता है, वह अपनी पापी दशा को और भी बिगाड़ लेता है, उसमें एक पाप और जोड़ लेता है - परमेश्वर का ठट्ठा करने का पाप।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (2)

    In the previous article we had seen that God loves His children immeasurably, is not willing to see them being destroyed, and does whatever is required to restore them into His fellowship, even chastening them as and when required. We see this from God’s handling of sin, from the Garden of Eden, to Noah preparing the Ark, then throughout the history of Israel, and now in the lives of the truly Born-Again Christian Believers now. Today, we will see in contrast, how God handles sin in the unbelievers, those not the children of God.

    In comparison to His manner of handling sin in His children, His people, generally speaking, we do not see God handling the sins of the Gentiles, of the unbelievers, in a similar manner. God does warn the Gentiles for their sins and asks them to repent, gives them opportunity to be saved from harm, as is evident the books of Jonah, Obadiah, and Nahum, and from Daniel warning King Nebuchadnezzar and his son King Belshazzar, etc. But the way and the number of times God has chastened and tried to correct His people, the Israelites, He has not chastened and punished the Gentiles, the unbelievers. Which once again affirms what we had seen in the previous article that God’s chastening is a proof of His love for His children, and of those being chastened being the children of God. Whereas, not being chastened by God despite their ungodly life, is proof of such people not being the children or people of God. Psalm 37, and Psalm 73 are both on this topic, and in both the Psalmist express their confusion and dismay about this, till they understood God’s ways, and received peace and comfort. Therefore, those who think and claim themselves to be Christians, consider themselves as God’s people, but live a life of worldliness and sin, and are not chastised for it, should beware, that whatever they may claim, say, or assume for themselves, they are actually not the children of God; therefore they should correct themselves while they have the time and opportunity.

    Here in 1 Corinthians 11:31, the Holy Spirit, through Paul is showing the escape route to the Christian Believers – God in His mercy, grace, and longsuffering, is giving an opportunity to the partakers in His Table to correct themselves and partake worthily. They, including Paul, should first judge themselves, and only then participate; by doing this, they will spare themselves God’s judging them. But again, this cannot be a superficial, insincere, meaningless, perfunctory exercise, meant more to fulfill the letter rather than the spirit of the Lord’s instructions. Again, take heed, no one can fool God; He decides on His own, by His own standards and methods, and not according to any man-made methods or criteria. Anyone trying to fool God on this will only compound his already sinful state, by adding another sin – of mocking God, to his already existing list.

    In the next article we will see some more about God’s judgment and God’s dealing with His unrepentant people for their sin. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word.     हमने पहले के लेखों में देखा है कि बाइबल के अनुसार, पाप से व्यवहार करने के परमेश्वर के केवल दो ही तरीके हैं - या तो पाप क्षमा किया जाता है, अन्यथा उसका न्याय करके दण्ड दिया जाता है। दोनों, क्षमा तथा न्याय एवं दण्ड, परमेश्वर ही के द्वारा हैं, उसके मानकों के अनुसार, उसकी विधि के द्वारा, और यह सब उसने अपने वचन बाइबल में पहले से दे दिया है। इससे पिछले लेख में हमने, पाप की क्षमा के बारे में अध्ययन करते समय देखा था कि परमेश्वर अपनी संतान, अर्थात नया जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों, की बहुत चिंता करता है, और उन्हें संसार के साथ समझौते तथा पथभ्रष्ट जीवन में बने नहीं रहने देता है। वह चाहता है कि वे खराई से अपने पापों का अंगीकार करें, और ईमानदारी से उनके लिए सच्चा पश्चाताप करें, जिससे कि वह उन्हें क्षमा कर सके। किन्तु यदि वे अपने पापों में बने ही रहते हैं, तो एक प्रेमी पिता के समान, वह अपने पथभ्रष्ट बच्चों की ताड़ना भी करता है। उसकी यह ताड़ना न केवल उनके प्रति उसके प्रेम का प्रमाण है, वरन इसका भी प्रमाण है कि जिनकी ताड़ना की जाती है, वे परमेश्वर की संतान हैं। परमेश्वर द्वारा प्रदान की जाने वाली क्षमा मनुष्यों की किसी सिफारिश, हस्तक्षेप, मानकों, मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गाई किसी विधि, या मनुष्य के किन्हीं कार्यों पर आधारित नहीं है। परमेश्वर, जो प्रत्येक के मन की वास्तविक दशा को जानता है, वह अपने सभी निर्णय स्वयं लेता है, अपने मानकों के आधार पर। हमने पिछले लेख का समापन इस चेतावनी के साथ किया था कि जो अपने आप को परमेश्वर के लोग कहते हैं, उसके विश्वासी होने का दावा करते हैं, किन्तु संसार के साथ समझौते का तथा एक पथभ्रष्ट जीवन जीते रहने के बावजूद भी यदि प्रभु की ओर से उनकी ताड़ना नहीं होती है, तो उन्हें सचेत हो जाना चाहिए, अपने जीवनों को बड़े ध्यान से और बारीकी से जाँच लेना चाहिए, और आवश्यक सुधार कर लेने चाहिएं, क्योंकि उनकी ताड़ना न किया जाना, बाइबल के अनुसार इस बात को दिखाता है कि वास्तव में वे परमेश्वर की संतान, उसके लोग नहीं हैं। आज से हम परमेश्वर द्वारा पाप के साथ व्यवहार करने के दूसरे तरीके, पाप के लिए न्याय, के बारे में देखना आरंभ करते हैं।

    प्रभु भोज और उसमें उचित रीति से भाग लेने की चर्चा के इस खण्ड के अन्त की ओर आते हुए, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में प्रेरित पौलुस, यह सिखाने के बाद कि प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को अपने आप को जाँचना, अपने पापों का अंगीकार करके उनके लिए पश्चाताप करना, प्रभु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगना अनिवार्य है तब ही वह उचित रीति से प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकता है, अब पद 31-32 में पापों के न्याय के बारे में बात करता है। यहाँ पर न्याय के दो चरण दिए गए हैं; पहला चरण स्वयं भाग लेने वाले के द्वारा है, और दूसरा चरण परमेश्वर के द्वारा। यदि प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने वाला अपने आप को उचित रीति से जाँच कर अपने पाप का न्याय नहीं करता है; यदि उसके पापों का अंगीकार, उनके लिए पश्चाताप, और उसे प्रभु से उनकी क्षमा मिलना नहीं हुआ है, तो फिर परमेश्वर उनका न्याय करेगा। इन दोनों पदों में इस बात पर ध्यान दीजिए कि पौलुस पहली बार प्रभु भोज से संबंधित इस खण्ड में शब्द “हम” का प्रयोग कर रहा है। शब्द “हम” के प्रयोग के द्वारा पौलुस अपने आप को भी उन लोगों में सम्मिलित कर लेता है जिन्हें ऐसा करने की आवश्यकता है; अर्थात, जब भी पौलुस को प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना होता था, वह भी अपने आप को जाँचता था, जिससे कि परमेश्वर द्वारा उसका न्याय न हो। पौलुस इस बात को भी स्पष्ट कर देता है कि जब बात यहाँ तक पहुँच जाती है कि परमेश्वर को ही व्यक्ति, यहाँ पर प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने वाले प्रभु के जन, का न्याय करना पड़ता है, तो फिर वह अपने बच्चों को सही मार्ग पर लाने के लिए, साथ ही आवश्यकता के अनुसार उपयुक्त ताड़ना भी करता है।

    परमेश्वर के गुणों में उसका दयालु, अनुग्रहकारी, और धीरजवन्त होना भी हैं (निर्गमन 34:6-7; 2 पतरस 3:9)। मनुष्य परमेश्वर की सर्वोच्च रचना थी, उसने अपने हाथों से मनुष्य को बनाया और उसमें जीवन का अपना श्वास फूँका था (उत्पत्ति 2:7)। इसीलिए, परमेश्वर मनुष्य से प्रेम करता है, उसे नाश होते हुए नहीं देखना चाहता है, और उसे बचाने तथा अपने पास बहाल करने के लिए जो कुछ भी आवश्यक था वह सब कुछ करके दिया है। अदन की वाटिका में, जब पहला पाप हुआ, तब परमेश्वर ने आदम और हव्वा को तुरन्त ही दण्ड नहीं दिया, बल्कि उन्हें अवसर दिया कि वे अपने पाप को मान लें, पश्चाताप करें, और उससे क्षमा माँग लें। किन्तु उन्होंने अपने अवसर को एक-दूसरे पर दोषारोपण करने में गँवा दिया, और उन्हें परमेश्वर की ताड़ना को सहना ही पड़ा। तब से ही परमेश्वर के लोगों का इतिहास, इस्राएल का इतिहास, इस बात के अनेकों उदाहरणों से भरा पड़ा है कि परमेश्वर उन्हें उनके पापों के बारे में सावधान करता रहा, धैर्य के साथ प्रतीक्षा करता रहा कि वे सही मार्ग पर आ जाएं, और उन्हें पापों से पश्चाताप करने की ओर लाने के लिए भिन्न प्रकार की ताड़नाओं को भी उन पर लाता रहा।

    अगले लेख में हम विश्वासियों के ढिठाई से पाप में बने रहने, और अविश्वासियों में पाप के बारे में परमेश्वर के व्यवहार को, प्रभु-भोज के संदर्भ में देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

The Lord’s Table - Judgment for Unworthy Participation (1)

    In the earlier articles we had seen that Biblically, there are only two ways in which sin is dealt with by God - it is either forgiven, or else it is judged and punished. Both, forgiveness and judgment, are by God, based on His criteria, through His method, all of which He has already given in His Word the Bible. In the previous article, while studying about the forgiveness of sins, we have seen that God is very concerned about His children, i.e., the Born-Again Christian Believers, and does not let them remain in their state of compromise with the world, in their wayward life. He wants them to genuinely confess their sins, and sincerely repent of them, so that He can forgive them. But if they persist in their sins, like a loving Father, He even chastens His wayward children. This chastening is a proof of not only God’s love for His children, but also proof that those being chastened, are the children of God. God’s forgiveness is not based on any human recommendation, intervention, criteria, man-made process, or any person’s works. God, who knows the actual state of the hearts of everyone, takes His own decisions, on the basis of His own standards. We had concluded the last article with the caution that those who claim to be the people of God, His Believers, but receive no chastening from the Lord despite persisting in their wayward and worldly life, they should beware, closely evaluate, and correct themselves, since not being chastened by God is a Biblical indicator of their not actually being the children of God, His people. Today, we will begin to study about the second way that God deals with sin, judgment for sin.

    Coming towards the conclusion of this section on the Holy Communion and worthily participating in it, the Apostle Paul, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, after teaching about the necessity of a Believer to examine himself, confess and repent of his specific sins, ask for the Lord’s forgiveness for them, and then worthily participate in the Holy Communion, in verse 31-32 talks about judgment for sins. There are two stages of judgment mentioned here; the first is by the participant himself, and the second is by God. If the participant in the Lord’s Table does not properly examine himself and judge his sin, if his sin is not acknowledged, repented of, and forgiven, then it will be judged by God. Notice here in these two verses, Paul uses the word “we”, which he has not used so far in this section of the Holy Communion. Through the use of “we” Paul is including himself amongst those who have to do this; so, Paul too, whenever he participated in the Lord’s Table, examined himself, so that he is not judged by God. Paul also makes it clear that when it reaches to the point of God having to examine and judge a person, here, the people of God participating in the Holy Communion, then He will also chasten as required, to correct His children.

    Amongst the characteristics of God are that He is merciful, gracious and longsuffering (Exodus 34:6-7; 2 Peter 3:9). Man was His supreme creation, made by His own hands, and brought to life by breathing His breath of life into him (Genesis 2:7). Therefore, God loves man, is not willing to see him perish, has done everything possible to save him, and restore him back to Him. In the Garden of Eden, when the first sin was committed, God did not straight-away punish Adam and Eve, but gave them the opportunity to confess their sin, repent and ask for His forgiveness. But they wasted away their opportunity by passing the blame from one to another, and had to suffer God’s chastening for sin. Since then, the history of God’s people, the history of Israel, is replete with numerous examples and instances where God warned them about their sins, patiently waited for them to correct themselves, and chastened them to varying degrees to get them to repent for their sins.

    In the next article we will see about God’s dealing with the Believers stubbornly persisting in their sins, and the sins of the unbelievers, in context of the Holy Communion.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
