प्रभु की मेज़ - शैतान क्यों और कैसे बहकाने पाया है 

 

अभी तक हमने प्रभु-भोज के प्ररूप फसह, जिसका वर्णन निर्गमन 12 में दिया गया है, और फिर नए नियम में सुसमाचारों में दिए गए वर्णनों के द्वारा प्रभु भोज और प्रभु यीशु द्वारा उसे फसह की सामग्री के द्वारा स्थापित करने के बारे में सीखा है। जो विभिन्न बातें अभी तक हमने प्रभु भोज तथा उसमें भाग लेने के बारे में सीखीं हैं, उनमें से कुछ बातें हैं जो बहुत प्रबल रीति से हमारे सामने आई हैं, जो बहुत महत्वपूर्ण हैं। क्योंकि इन बातों पर ध्यान नहीं दिया गया है, इसीलिए शैतान प्रभु की मेज़ के बारे में बहुत सारी गलत शिक्षाएं, गलत धारणाएं, और गलतफहमियाँ ले आया है, और ईसाई या मसीही समाज में मेज़ का अर्थ और मूल्य जाते रहे हैं, यह केवल एक रीति, एक परंपरा बन कर रह गई है, जिसका निर्वाह इसके बारे में विभिन्न डिनॉमिनेशंस, समुदायों, और समूहों के धार्मिक अगुवों की समझ के अनुसार, उनके द्वारा बनाई गई विधियों और नियमों के अनुसार किया जाता है। इसीलिए, पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, प्रेरित पौलुस ने कोरिन्थ की कलीसिया के नाम लिखी पत्री में, उनमें पाई जाने वाली बहुत सी गलत शिक्षाओं को सुधारने के लिए लिखा, और उन गलत बातों में प्रभु भोज के बारे में भी गलतियाँ थीं। अगले लेख से हम कोरिन्थ की कलीसिया में घुस आई गलतियों के बारे में देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

 

  अभी तक प्रभु भोज के बारे में जिन गलत शिक्षाओं और गलत सिद्धांतों को हमने देखा है, जिन्हें सुधारे जाने की आवश्यकता है, और जिनका उपयोग शैतान प्रभु भोज के बारे में लोगों को बहकाने के लिए करता है, वे तथा उनसे संबंधित बाइबल के तथ्य ये हैं:

• जो कोई प्रभु का नाम ले और उसमें विश्वास करने का दावा करे, वह प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकता है। बाइबल का तथ्य यह है कि जैसे फसह में केवल इस्राएली, अर्थात परमेश्वर के चुने हुए लोग, तथा वे अन्य-जाति लोग जो अपने आप को परमेश्वर तथा अब्राहम के मध्य बंधी वाचा के अधीन ले आए थे, तथा खतने के द्वारा इसकी गवाही दी थी, वे ही भाग ले सकते थे; उसी प्रकार से केवल नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी, अर्थात प्रभु के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध प्रभु के सच्चे शिष्य ही प्रभु भोज में भाग ले सकते हैं। 

• प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने से व्यक्ति परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी और पवित्र हो जाता है, उसके पाप क्षमा हो जाते हैं, वह परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य, तथा स्वर्ग में प्रवेश के योग्य बन जाता है। बाइबल का तथ्य यह है कि केवल परमेश्वर के लोगों को ही फसह में भाग लेने का अधिकार था; न कि फसह में भाग लेने से वे परमेश्वर के लोग बन जाते थे। उसी प्रकार से केवल वे ही, जिनके पाप क्षमा हो गए हैं, और जो प्रभु में सच्चे विश्वास तथा अपना जीवन उसे समर्पित करने के द्वारा प्रभु के लोग हो गए हैं, प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग ले सकते हैं। प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से वे प्रभु के जन, धर्मी, पवित्र, परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य, और स्वर्ग में जाने के योग्य नहीं बन जाते हैं। 

• प्रभु की मेज़ में व्यक्ति अपने डिनॉमिनेशंस, समुदाय, या समूह की रीतियों, परंपराओं और विधियों के अनुसार भाग ले सकते हैं, इन बातों से इस पर कोई अंतर नहीं आता है। बाइबल का तथ्य यही है कि परमेश्वर अपनी आराधना की उसके द्वारा दी गई विधि और स्वरूप के प्रति, जो वह अपने वचन में पहले ही दे चुका है, सदा ही बहुत विशिष्ट और जलन रखने वाला रहा है। उसने जो निर्धारित कर के दे दिया है, उसमें वह किसी मनुष्य के द्वारा कोई भी परिवर्तन या “सुधार” सहन अथवा स्वीकार नहीं करता है। उसकी दृष्टि में मनुष्यों द्वारा बनाई गई विधियों से की गई आराधना व्यर्थ है, उसे अस्वीकार्य है, और निष्फल है। यहाँ तक कि जो लोग ऐसे अपने आप को परमेश्वर पर थोपते हैं, और सोचते हैं कि परमेश्वर इसके लिए कुछ नहीं कहेगा, उनके लिए इस बात के बहुत हानिकारक परिणाम भी हो सकते हैं। 

शैतान के अपनी धूर्त युक्तियों और बातों को घुसा कर लोगों को बहका देने का मूल कारण है कि लोगों ने परमेश्वर के वचन का अध्ययन करने, उसे सीखने और अपने जीवन में उसे लागू करने में रुचि लेना छोड़ दिया है। आज मसीही विश्वासी भी जो कुछ भी परमेश्वर के नाम में पुल्पिट से कह दिया जाता उसे परमेश्वर के वचन से बिना जाँचे-परखे मान लेने और स्वीकार कर लेने में संतुष्ट रहते हैं। क्योंकि आजकल कलीसिया के लोग सांसारिक संस्थानों द्वारा दी गई शैक्षिक योग्यताओं और प्रमाण-पत्रों पर अधिक भरोसा करने लग गए हैं, न कि उनके प्रचारक और शिक्षक प्रभु यीशु के प्रति समर्पण और प्रतिबद्धता के जीवन के। इसीलिए लोग उसे स्वीकार कर लेने तथा पालन करने की प्रवृत्ति रखते हैं जो उन्हें तर्क पूर्ण रीति से, रोचक और लुभावनी बातों के साथ, और ज्ञान के प्रदर्शन के द्वारा बता दिया जाता है; और वे यह मान कर चलते हैं कि यह सभी परमेश्वर के वचन के अनुसार भी होगा। क्योंकि कोई भी उन बातों और शिक्षाओं को परमेश्वर के वचन से जाँचता-परखता नहीं है, प्रचारक से प्रश्न नहीं करता है, इसीलिए गलत शिक्षाएं न केवल अन्दर आ गई हैं, बल्कि कलीसियाओं में उन्होंने इतनी गहरी पकड़ बना ली है कि आज लोग बाइबल के सत्यों को झूठ, और गलतियाँ करने की प्रवृत्ति रखने वाले मनुष्यों के ज्ञान और बुद्धि से कही गई बातों को सत्य मानने लगे हैं।

 

यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, और प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेते रहे हैं, तो कृपया अपने जीवन को जाँच कर देख लें कि आप वास्तव में पापों से छुड़ाए गए हैं तथा आप ने अपना जीवन प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीने के लिए उस को समर्पित किया है। आपके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि आप परमेश्वर के वचन की सही शिक्षाओं को जानने के द्वारा एक परिपक्व विश्वासी बनें, तथा सभी शिक्षाओं को वचन की कसौटी पर परखने, और बेरिया के विश्वासियों के समान, लोगों की बातों को पहले वचन से जाँचने और उनकी सत्यता को निश्चित करने के बाद ही उनको स्वीकार करने और मानने वाले बनें (प्रेरितों 17:11; 1 थिस्सलुनीकियों 5:21)। अन्यथा शैतान द्वारा छोड़े हुए झूठे प्रेरित और भविष्यद्वक्ता मसीह के सेवक बन कर (2 कुरिन्थियों 11:13-15) अपनी ठग विद्या और चतुराई से आपको प्रभु के लिए अप्रभावी कर देंगे और आप के मसीही जीवन एवं आशीषों का नाश कर देंगे।

  

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

The Lord’s Table - How & Why Satan Has Been Able to Deceive Christians

So far, through the Passover, the antecedent of the Holy Communion described in Exodus 12, and then through the Gospel accounts of the New Testament we have learnt about the Holy Communion, and the Lord’s instituting it using the elements of the Passover. Amongst the various things we have learnt regarding the Holy Communion and participating in it, some things have stood out very strongly, and are very important. Because these things have not been paid attention to, therefore, Satan has been able to bring in many wrong teachings, misconceptions, and misunderstandings about the Lord’s Table, it has lost its purpose and value in Christendom, and has become more of a ritual, a tradition to be followed in the manner advocated and taught by religious leaders of denominations, sects, and groups, according to their understanding about it. This trend had started in the initial Churches itself; like for most of the other things related to the Christian Faith, Satan had beguiled and misled the Churches about the Lord’s Table too. That is why, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian Church for correcting many of the wrong teachings and false doctrines Satan had brought amongst them, including about the Holy Communion. From the next article we will start considering the wrong concepts and false teachings that had crept into the Church in Corinth.

 

The main things, the false teachings and wrong doctrines that Satan uses to beguile people regarding the Holy Communion, which we have seen so far, and which should be corrected, along with their related Biblical facts are:

• Anyone who takes the name of the Lord and claims to believe in the Lord can participate in it. The Biblical fact is like only the Israelites, the chosen people of God, and those gentiles who had brought themselves under the covenant of God with Abraham, and had witnessed for it through getting circumcised could partake of the Passover; similarly only the Born-Again Christian Believers, the surrendered and committed disciples of the Lord Jesus can participate in the Holy Communion.

• Participating in the Lord’s Table makes one righteous and holy in God’s eyes, provides forgiveness for their sins, makes them acceptable to God and worthy of entering heaven. The Biblical fact is like it was only the people of God who were permitted to partake of the Passover; their participation did not make them God’s people, but already being God’s people gave them the permission to participate in the Passover. Similarly, participating in the Lord’s Table does not make anyone a person of the Lord; does not make anyone righteous, holy, acceptable to God and worthy of heaven, does not forgive their sins. Rather only those whose sins have been forgiven and who have become the people of the Lord Jesus by sincere faith and surrender to Him, have been given the privilege to participate in the Holy Communion.

• In participating in the Lord’s Table, one can do it according to the rites, rituals, and manner of their denomination, or sect, or group, and it will not matter. The Biblical fact is that God always has been very particular and jealous for the manner He has already prescribed and given in His Word for people to worship Him. He does not accept any alterations or modifications by any man, in what He has prescribed. Any worship through man-made methods is vain worship in His eyes, is unacceptable to Him, is inconsequential, and could even have deleterious consequences for those who impose themselves upon God, and think that they can get away with it. 

The basic reason for Satan being able to infiltrate his devious ploys and mislead people away is that people have lost interest in studying God’s Word, in learning it and applying it to their lives. Today even the Christian Believers are content with listening to whatever is preached from the pulpit in the name of God, accepting the messages without any questions or cross-checking it from God’s Word. Because nowadays the congregation trusts the academic qualifications and certificates granted by worldly institutions, instead of the personal commitment and surrender of their preacher and teacher to the Lord Jesus. Therefore, people remain inclined and satisfied with accepting anything seemingly logical, interesting, attractive, and knowledgeable; and assume that it would be according to God’s word as well. Since no cross-checks and questions the teachings, therefore wrong teachings and false doctrines have not only come in but have taken such strong roots in the Churches, that today people disbelieve Biblical truth, but accept as truth things from the wisdom and knowledge of fallible men.

 

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

प्रभु की मेज़ - जो प्रभु को समर्पित नहीं हैं उनके लिए नहीं 

 

हम चारों सुसमाचारों में से प्रभु द्वारा फसह का भोज खाते समय प्रभु भोज की स्थापना के वृतांत का अध्ययन करते आ रहे हैं। जैसा हम पहले भी कह चुके हैं, इस अध्ययन का उद्देश्य सुसमाचारों के विवरणों में सामंजस्य बैठाना और उन्हें क्रमवार प्रस्तुत करना नहीं है, वरन प्रभु की मेज़ के अर्थ, महत्व, और उसमें भाग लेने के बारे में सीखना है। अब हम इस घटनाक्रम के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण भाग पर आते हैं - प्रभु भोज की स्थापना, और एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण प्रश्न पर भी, कि क्या उस पहले प्रभु भोज में यहूदा इस्करियोती भी सम्मिलित हुआ था? इसका उत्तर और उसके अभिप्राय हम केवल चारों सुसमाचारों के विवरणों का अध्ययन कर के उन्हें साथ मिलाकर देखने के द्वारा ही प्राप्त कर सकते हैं।

कभी-कभी लोग यह तर्क देते हैं कि क्योंकि प्रभु यीशु ने यहूदा इस्करियोती को उस प्रथम प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने दिया, तो फिर आज क्यों वे लोग जो प्रभु यीशु को समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध नहीं हैं, इसमें भाग नहीं ले सकते हैं? हमें इसे दो दृष्टिकोण से समझने की आवश्यकता है - पहला, जैसे के हम ऊपर देख चुके हैं, प्रभु यीशु ने यहूदा को प्रथम प्रभु भोज में भाग नहीं लेने दिया। दूसरी बात, जैसा कि हमने बारंबार निर्गमन 12 के अध्ययन के समय बल देकर कहा है, प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना एक यादगार है, प्रभु के बलिदान और हमें पाप के दासत्व से छुड़ाने के उसके काम की; इसमें भाग उसका आदर और आज्ञाकारिता करने के लिए है। प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने से कोई पवित्र और धर्मी नहीं बनता है, और न ही कोई परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य अथवा स्वर्ग में प्रवेश पाने के योग्य हो जाता है - इस विचारधारा के समर्थन एवं पुष्टि के लिए बाइबल में कोई हवाला अथवा उदाहरण नहीं है। तो फिर, बिना प्रभु यीशु के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध हुए, प्रभु भोज में भाग लेने के द्वारा किसी को क्या लाभ होगा और कैसे? बल्कि, जैसा कि 1 कुरिन्थियों 11:27-31 में लिखा है, जो इसमें अयोग्य रीति से भाग लेते हैं, वे अपने ऊपर परमेश्वर के न्याय को लाते हैं। इसलिए जो प्रभु परमेश्वर के प्रति समर्पित और प्रतिबद्ध नहीं हैं, उनके लिए प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेना किसी लाभ का नहीं परंतु बड़ी हानि का कारण होगा; इसलिए उन्हें अपने लाभ के लिए इसमें भाग लेने से रोक कर रखना चाहिए। यह निर्गमन 12:43-49 की बात के समान है, फसह में केवल तब ही कोई परदेशी भाग ले सकता था, जब वह अपने आप को परमेश्वर और अब्राहम के मध्य हुई वाचा के अंतर्गत ले आता था, और खतने के द्वारा इसकी गवाही दे देता था।

यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

The Lord’s Table - Not for Those not Committed to the Lord   

In our study from the four Gospels, we have been looking at the Lord’s instituting the Holy Communion, while eating the Passover with His disciples. As we have said before, the purpose of this study is not to harmonize the Gospel accounts and present them in a chronological order, but to learn about the meaning, significance, and participation in the Lord’s Table. We now come to the crucial part of the event - the actual establishing of the Table by the Lord, and a very crucial question and its implications, did Judas Iscariot participate in that first Holy Communion? The answer and its inferences can only be derived by studying the four Gospel accounts and putting together the events sequentially.

We need to keep in mind two important parts of this event, first is the eating of the Passover meal and the second is Lord’s giving the bread and the cup as symbols of His body and blood to the disciples, for them to keep doing in remembrance of Him, in the times to come, till He comes (Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24-26). The Lord had first sent Peter and John to prepare for the Passover in a specific house, as we have seen earlier, and had then gone to eat the Passover with His disciples. It was during the meal, as we saw from John 13, that He rose up and washed the feet of the disciples and gave them a practical lesson in humility and honoring others. This might have been prompted by the dispute among the disciples as to which one among them should be considered the greatest (Luke 22:24-30). It was during the meal, after the washing of the feet of the disciples, that the Lord informed that He was going to be betrayed by one amongst them, because of which a discussion as to who it is ensued amongst the disciples. As a part of eating of this Passover meal and as a sign of identification of the betrayer, the Lord gave the sop - the piece of bread dipped in the broth, to Judas, and asked him to do what he wanted to do (John 13:26-27). John records a very important part of the events here - Judas took the sop, and went out into the night (John 13:30), but in none of the gospel accounts is it written that Judas actually ate that sop given to Him by the Lord, which was also a sign of Lord’s love for him and of still giving him a place of honor, since the head of the family, at Passover, gave the sop to a loved and honorable person present at the Passover meal.

It is after the sop had been given, and Judas after receiving the sop had gone out, while the others were eating the meal (Matthew 26:26; Mark 14:22) that the Lord took the bread, blessed and broke it and gave it to the disciples as a symbol of His body broken for them; He then took the cup and asked them to share from it, as a symbol of the Lord’s blood shed for them, as is recorded in Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:18-20. Therefore, by piecing together the sequence of events, it becomes clear that Judas was not present at the time of the Lord establishing the Table, and did not participate in the first Holy Communion established by the Lord. This is in perfect agreement with what we have seen earlier, from Exodus 12, that the Passover, as well as Lord’s Table are only for the actual committed people of the Lord, not for anyone else. Some people may be confused by the account given in Luke, since Luke records the events of eating the Passover meal and the Lord’s saying that the hand of His betrayer is with Him in the dish, after the establishing of the Lord’s Table, whereas Matthew and Mark record it as before the Lord established the Table. What helps us to understand and clarify is that Luke is recording the presence of Judas for the Passover meal not for the Table; since the events of John 13 help us understand that eating of the meal was in presence of Judas, who left after taking the sop, and the continuation of the meal and the rest of the events, including the establishing of the Lord’s Table, followed after that. Moreover, Judas did not even eat the sop, and neither was he present at the institution of the Lord’s Table.

Sometimes, people argue that since the Lord allowed Judas Iscariot to partake of the first Holy Communion, so why can’t people who are not actually committed to the Lord do the same today? We need to understand it from two different perspectives - firstly, as we have seen above, the Lord Jesus did not let Judas partake of the first Holy Communion. Secondly, as we have repeatedly emphasized during the study from Exodus 12, partaking in the Lord’s Table is in remembrance of the sacrifice of the Lord to deliver us from the bondage of sin; it is to honor and obey Him. Partaking of the Lord’s Table does not accord anyone any holiness or righteousness, nor makes anyone acceptable to God, nor worthy of entering into heaven - there is no Biblical reference to support and affirm this thinking. So, how would anyone benefit, and in what manner, by participating in the Holy Communion, without being committed to the Lord? Rather, as it says in 1 Corinthians 11:27-31, those who participate unworthily, invite God’s judgement upon themselves. Therefore, for those not committed to the Lord, participating in the Lord’s Table is more harmful than of any good; and for their own benefit they should refrain from doing so, till they make a commitment to the Lord and join themselves to Him; as was the instruction for the Passover - only those who first came under the covenant of God with Abraham, witnessed for it through circumcision, could participate in the Passover (Exodus 12:43-49).

From the next article, we will shift to 1 Corinthians 11 and learn more from there. If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. You should also always, like the Berean Believers, first check and test all teachings that you receive from the Word of God, and only after ascertaining the truth and veracity of the teachings brought to you by men, should you accept and obey them (Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21). If you do not do this, the false apostles and prophets sent by Satan as ministers of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13-15), will by their trickery, cunningness, and craftiness render you ineffective for the Lord and cause severe damage to your Christian life and your rewards.

If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

यहाँ, यूहन्ना 13:20 में, प्रभु शिष्यों से कोई नई बात नहीं कह रहा है। वह उन्हें यही बात तब भी कह चुका था जब उसने पहली बार उन्हें सेवकाई के लिए भेजा था (मत्ती 10:40-42)। इसके बाद भी अपनी सेवकाई के दौरान प्रभु ने शिष्यों को उनके ईश्वरीय अधिकार और सहारे की बात बताई थी (मरकुस 9:37; लूका 10:16; यूहन्ना 12:44-45)। अब, उसे पकड़ कर क्रूस पर मारे जाने के लिए ले जाए जाने से पहले, प्रभु फिर से उन्हें इस बात को याद दिला रहा है। इस अनुपम आदर और विशेषाधिकार के बारे में प्रभु द्वारा बारंबार शिष्यों को याद दिलाना, उनके लिए और उनके जीवनों में इन बातों के महत्व का सूचक है; और इस बात का भी कि प्रभु के लिए उनकी सेवकाई में भी इसे याद रखना बहुत आवश्यक तथा महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्हें कभी यह नहीं सोचना चाहिए कि उन्हें एक खतरनाक अभियान पर, बिना किसी अधिकार और सामर्थ्य के भेज दिया गया। वरन उनके पास तो सर्वाधिक सामर्थ्य और सृष्टि की सर्वोच्च सहायता और अधिकार है - स्वयं परमेश्वर से। इसलिए प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्य, परमेश्वर के लोग होकर जीने के लिए उन्हें कभी भी मनुष्यों से डरने और मनुष्यों के बनाए हुए नियमों के अधीन होने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। किन्तु हमेशा ही कोई भी विशेषाधिकार और ओहदा, और सामर्थ्य बिना उससे जुड़ी हुई जिम्मेदारियों के नहीं मिलते हैं; साथ ही उन जिम्मेदारियों को भी लेना और निभाना पड़ता है। अपनी पृथ्वी की सेवकाई के आरंभिक समय में ही, अपने पहाड़ी उपदेश में, प्रभु ने अपने शिष्यों के सामने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया था कि उनसे क्या आशा रखी गई है। उन बातों में से एक थी कि उन्हें “पृथ्वी के नमक” तथा “जगत की ज्योति” के समान जीना है जिससे लोग उनके स्वर्गीय पिता की महिमा करें (मत्ती 5:13-16)।

इसलिए प्रभु की मेज़ में भाग लेने की तैयारी करते समय, उसमें सम्मिलित होने वाले प्रत्येक जन को अपनी तथा अपने मसीही जीवन की जाँच इन बातों के लिए कर लेनी चाहिए - प्रभु यीशु का शिष्य होने के नाते, क्या मैं उस ओहदे और विशेषाधिकार को याद रखता हूँ, उसका ध्यान रखता हूँ जो प्रभु परमेश्वर ने मुझे प्रदान किया है? उसके द्वारा प्रदान किए गए इस ओहदे और विशेषाधिकार के साथ जुड़ी हुई जिम्मेदारियों का क्या मैं निर्वाह करता हूँ? क्या मैं मसीह के राजदूत, परमेश्वर के याजक, उच्च ओहदा पाए हुए लोग के समान कार्य कर रहा हूँ जिससे कि मेरे कारण लोग परमेश्वर की महिमा करें?

The Lord’s Table - A Remembrance for Honoring God Given Status & Privileges  

    

We are seeing the events immediately preceding the Lord’s establishing the Holy Communion from the Passover, using the elements of the Passover, from John 13. In the last article we saw from verses 18-19 the place in Lord Jesus’s life of going by the Word of God; and how the Lord’s Table should remind those partaking in it to emulate the Lord for this characteristic. In John 13:19, the Lord shifts the focus of conversation to something related to the future activities of the disciples. As yet, here in John 13, in the Lord’s conversation with the disciples related to the Passover there had been no allusion to the future ministry of the disciples. But talking of the possible future events, in verse 19, not only does the Lord reassure the disciples that those events will only reaffirm His claims about Himself, but also reassures them of their status and blessings. The Lord knew that they will need to keep them in mind in the days to come, when they step out into the world to preach the gospel.

Here, in John 13:20, the Lord is not saying anything new to the disciples. He had already said the same to them when He sent them out the first time for ministry (Matthew 10:40-42). He had reminded them of this divine authority and backing that they had as His disciples, during His earthly ministry as well (Mark 9:37; Luke 10:16; John 12:44-45). Now, just before His being caught and taken for death by crucifixion, He again reminds them of it. The Lord’s repeatedly reminding the disciples of this unique authority and privilege is an indicator of its importance in their lives, and the necessity of the disciples of the Lord always bearing it in mind, when working for the Lord. They should not think of themselves as being sent on a dangerous mission without any authority or backing; instead, they had the highest possible backing, and they had the authorization to fulfill their mission from the highest possible authority of the universe - God Himself. Therefore, they did not have to fear men or subject themselves to man-made regulations when living as the people of God, the disciples of the Lord Jesus. But privileges, status, and authority always come with responsibilities. Right in the initial stage of His earthly ministry, in His Sermon on the Mount, the Lord had made clear to His disciples, what was expected of them. One of the things they had to do was to serve as “salt of the earth” and “light of the world” so that through them the people of the world would glorify our Heavenly Father (Matthew 5:13-16).

The Apostle Paul, through the Holy Spirit reminds the Christian Believers that he and the Believers, all are “Ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20), to speak on behalf of the Lord God to the people of the world. The Apostle John wrote “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). The Apostle Peter reminded his readers that God had given them a highly exalted status, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1Peter 2:9); they could not take it lightly, but in accordance with that status and authority, they had to “...proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” As Peter has said here, and John says in Revelation 1:6, every Born-Again Christian Believer, i.e., every disciple of the Lord Jesus, in God’s eyes, is a priest for God. A priest, as the messenger of God, has two functions to fulfill “For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge, And people should seek the law from his mouth; For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 2:7); firstly he has to “keep knowledge”, i.e., guard or protect knowledge of God and His Word; and secondly, he should teach God’s law, God’s ways to the people.

Therefore, when preparing to partake of the Lord’s Table, every participant should examine himself, his Christian life and living for these things - as a disciple of the Lord Jesus, do I bear in mind the unique privilege and authority given to me by the Lord God? Do I fulfill God’s expectations from me in response to the privilege and authority He has bestowed upon me? Am I serving as God’s ambassador, as His priest, as people to whom He has accorded an exalted status so that they may glorify Him?

If you are a Christian Believer and have been participating in the Lord’s Table, then please examine your life and make sure that you are actually a disciple of the Lord, i.e., are redeemed from your sins, have submitted and surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him and His Word. If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord Jesus, then to ensure your eternal life and heavenly rewards, take a decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now. Wherever there is surrender and obedience towards the Lord Jesus, the Lord’s blessings and safety are also there. If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
