मसीही विश्वास रीतियाँ, विशेष दिन, त्यौहार मनाना नहीं है  

  

   कल हमने मसीही विश्वास के स्थान पर मसीही धर्म या ईसाई धर्म के मानने वालों तथा उस धर्म की बातों को पूरा करने वालों में विद्यमान एक धारणा के बारे में देखा था - परमेश्वर को स्वीकार्य होने के लिए गणित के एक समीकरण के समान धारणा रखना। इस “समीकरण” वाली धारणा रखने वाले लोग यह विचार रखते हैं कि यदि कोई प्रभाव जीवन में कुछ गुण लाता है, तो फिर किसी के जीवन में उन गुणों का होना इस बात का प्रमाण है कि वे उस प्रभाव के कारण ही हैं। जबकि यह सत्य नहीं है। इसे यदि एक बहुत सहज और सामान्य उदाहरण से समझें, दूध एक सफेद तरल पदार्थ है; किन्तु हम भली-भांति जानते हैं कि हर सफेद तरल पदार्थ न तो दूध होता है और न दूध के समान प्रयोग किया जा सकता है; और साथ ही यह भी जानते हैं कि दूध के समान दिखने वाले “नकली दूध” भी बाजार में मिल जाते हाँ, किन्तु वे हानिकारक होते हैं, दूध के समान पौष्टिक भोजन वस्तु नहीं। ऐसा नहीं है कि मसीही या ईसाई धर्म में आस्था रखने वाले परमेश्वर से प्रेम नहीं करते, या प्रभु परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध हैं; वास्तविकता तो यही है कि वे भी अपनी ही रीति और विधि के अंतर्गत प्रभु परमेश्वर को चाहते हैं, उसे पूरा आदर और जीवन में उच्च स्थान देना चाहते हैं, किन्तु उनका यह प्रयास परमेश्वर के वचन से संगत नहीं है, इसलिए अपूर्ण और निष्फल है। इन लोगों के लिए पौलुस प्रेरित द्वारा पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में भक्त इस्राएलियों के लिए लिखी गई बात पूरी होती है, “हे भाइयो, मेरे मन की अभिलाषा और उन के लिये परमेश्वर से मेरी प्रार्थना है, कि वे उद्धार पाएं। क्योंकि मैं उन की गवाही देता हूं, कि उन को परमेश्वर के लिये धुन रहती है, परन्तु बुद्धिमानी के साथ नहीं। क्योंकि वे परमेश्वर की धामिर्कता से अनजान हो कर, और अपनी धामिर्कता स्थापन करने का यत्न कर के, परमेश्वर की धामिर्कता के आधीन न हुए” (रोमियों 10:1-3)।

अपनी इसी धर्म-कर्म-रस्म के निर्वाह की धार्मिकता की धारणा के अंतर्गत, वे यही मानते हैं कि कुछ विधि-विधान पूरे कर देने, कुछ त्यौहारों, विशेष दिनों, और रस्मों को निभा लेने, और मसीही विश्वासियों के समान कुछ बातों का पालन कर लेने से वे भी मसीही विश्वासी ही हो जाते हैं। पतरस प्रेरित ने पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य प्राप्त करने के बाद जब यरूशलेम में एकत्रित भक्त यहूदियों के सामने पहला सुसमाचार प्रचार किया (प्रेरितों 2 अध्याय) तो उन यहूदियों में से लगभग 3000 ने प्रभु यीशु मसीह को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण किया और प्रभु के शिष्यों के समूह में सम्मिलित हो गए (पद 41)। यही प्रथम कलीसिया, या चर्च अथवा मण्डली का आरंभ था। इससे अगला पद (पद 42) बताता है कि इस प्रथम मण्डली के लोग चार बातों में ‘लौलीन रहते थे’, “और वे प्रेरितों से शिक्षा पाने [परमेश्वर के वचन के अध्ययन और शिक्षा], और संगति रखने [विश्वासी लोगों के साथ एकत्रित होते रहने ] में और रोटी तोड़ने [प्रभु भोज में भाग लेते रहने] में और प्रार्थना करने [साथ मिलकर परमेश्वर से संगति और निवेदन करने] में लौलीन रहे।” अब इन्हीं चार बातों का पालन मसीही या ईसाई धर्म के लोग भी करते हैं, किन्तु न तो वे इनमें लौलीन रहते हैं, और न ही उस प्रकार से करते हैं जिस प्रकार से वचन में सिखाया और दिखाया गया है, वरन धर्म का पालन करने वाले अधिकांश लोगों के लिए ये चारों बातें कुछ निर्धारित दिनों में एक रस्म के समान निभाने के लिए हैं, जिनका निर्वाह करके वे मानते हैं कि उन्होंने भी मसीही विश्वासियों के समान वचन की शिक्षा को पूरा कर लिया है, इसलिए वे भी मसीही विश्वासियों से भिन्न नहीं हैं। किन्तु वो इस आधारभूत तथ्य की अनदेखी कर बैठते हैं कि मसीही विश्वासी पहले स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करता है, प्रभु यीशु से उनके लिए क्षमा माँगता है, अपना जीवन प्रभु यीशु को समर्पित करके उनका शिष्य बनता है, और फिर प्रभु की अगुवाई में, प्रभु के सिखाए, वह इन बातों में ‘लौलीन’ रहता है, इनका पालन करके इनके दर्शनों में बढ़ता और मसीही जीवन में परिपक्व होता जाता है।

 इन बातों के पालन से संबंधित परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल की कुछ शिक्षाओं को हम अगले लेख में आगे देखेंगे। किन्तु यदि आपने अभी तक अपने आप को प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिष्यता में समर्पित नहीं किया है, और आप अभी भी अपने जन्म अथवा संबंधित धर्म तथा उसकी रीतियों के पालन के आधार पर अपने आप को प्रभु का जन समझ रहे हैं, तो आपको भी अपनी इस गलतफहमी से बाहर निकलकर सच्चाई को स्वीकार करने और उसका पालन करने की आवश्यकता है। आज और अभी आपके पास अपनी अनन्तकाल की स्थिति को सुधारने का अवसर है; प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

 Christian Faith is Not Fulfilling Rituals, Feasts, Festivals

    In the last article we have seen that those who believe in following religion - the Christian religion or any other, instead of believing in following the Christian faith, they believe in a false notion, that being acceptable to God is something like a mathematical equation. These people think and believe that if some process brings an effect and change in a person’s life, then the presence of similar effects and changes in another person’s life is automatically evidence of the process being active in the other person’s life as well. But this is not always true. We can understand this by a very simple and straightforward example - milk is a white-colored liquid; but we know very well that every white liquid is neither milk, nor can it be used or treated as milk! We also know that spurious milk that appears to be like milk is also available in the market, but the spurious milk though similar in appearance is not nutritious and beneficial like milk, rather is quite harmful for those who consume it. This is not to say that all of those who profess to follow the Christian religion, do not love God, or are against the Lord God; in their own ways, by their own methods they love the Lord God and want to honor God, but their contrived efforts are not in accordance with God’s Word, hence are unacceptable to God and fruitless for those who believe in them. This is what, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul wrote about the devout Israelites, “Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel* is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God” (Romans 10:1-3).

Under this thinking of righteousness through observance of religion-works-rituals, their belief and trust is that by fulfilling certain prescribed rituals and ceremonies, celebrating some feasts and festivals, observing certain days etc. and by behaving like Born-Again Christian Believers regarding some things, they too become Born-Again Christian Believers and acceptable to God. After receiving the power of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Peter preached the first gospel sermon to the devout Jews who had gathered in Jerusalem to fulfill religious obligations (Acts 2), asking them to first repent of their sins, and about 3000 of those Jews accepted the Lord Jesus, and joined the disciples of the Lord Jesus (Acts 2:41), and this was the beginning of the first Church or Assembly of Christian Believers. The next verse, Acts 2:42 tells us that those who belonged to this first Church remained steadfastly committed to four things as Christian Believers, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine [studying and learning God’s Word], and fellowship [gathering together with other Believers], in the breaking of bread [participating in the Lord’s Table], and in prayers [gathering together to worship and beseech the Lord].” Now, the followers of the Christian religion too do these four things, but they are not steadfastly committed to doing them; rather, they do it ritualistically and in accordance with the teachings of their denominations and sects, instead of as has been taught in the Bible. Nevertheless, they trust and believe that because they too have fulfilled these things, therefore they are no different from the Christian Believers, and will be treated as such by God, because they have fulfilled these four things. But they overlook the basic fact of paramount importance, that makes all the difference - to become a Christian Believer a person first repents of his sins personally and individually, confesses them to the Lord and asks for their forgiveness from Him, submits and commits his life to the Lord Jesus to become His obedient disciple, only then, under the guidance of the Lord he steadfastly follows these four things according to what is taught in the Bible about them, and not according to their own understanding about them or their denominational or sectarian teachings. Through this committed obedience to the Lord, unlike those who do these things ritualistically, he does not remain stuck up at one place, but continues to grow and mature in his Christian life; evidenced by a separation from the world and the things of the world seen in his life. And this change affirms that it his is not a ritualistic doing of these things, but a serious, committed and meaningful participation in submission and obedience to the Lord God.

We will see some more details about following these things from God’s Word in the coming articles. But, if you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

मसीही विश्वास - गणित का समीकरण नहीं है

पिछले दो लेखों का सम्मिलित निष्कर्ष था कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करने का अर्थ है यह ग्रहण करना और अपने जीवन में कार्यान्वित करना कि केवल और केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही मुझे मेरे पापों से छुड़ा सकता है, सुरक्षित कर सकता है; और जब मैं इस बात को ग्रहण करके अपने आप को उसे समर्पित कर दूँगा, उसका जन बना जाऊँगा, तब ही प्रभु यीशु को मुझे मेरे पापों से छुड़ा कर उनके दुष्प्रभावों से सुरक्षित कर देने की अनुमति और स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त होगी और वह यह करने पाएगा। आज से हम इसी निष्कर्ष को थोड़ा सा और विस्तरित करके देखेंगे और समझेंगे।

सामान्यतः ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वालों में, मसीही विश्वास और उससे आए जीवन में परिवर्तनों को गणित के एक समीकरण के समान देखा, समझा, और माना जाना देखने को मिलता है। गणित का यह साधारण समीकरण है: यदि “अ”, “ब” के बराबर है, तो फिर सदा ही “ब” भी “अ” के बराबर ही होगा (If “A” = “B”; then “B” will always = “A”)। इस समीकरण की धारणा के अंतर्गत, लोग ईसाई धर्म को मानने वाले मसीही विश्वास के जीवन और उस विश्वास से आए परिवर्तनों को एक साथ ले कर, इन दोनों बातों को परस्पर अदल-बदल हो सकने वाली समझ और मान लेते हैं, उदाहरण के लिए मसीही विश्वासी प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होते हैं, इसलिए वे सभी जो प्रभु-भोज में सम्मिलित होते हैं, वो मसीही विश्वासी हैं; या, मसीही विश्वासी प्रार्थना और बाइबल का अध्ययन करते हैं, इसलिए वे सभी जो प्रार्थना करते और बाइबल पढ़ते हैं मसीही विश्वासी हैं। ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वालों में समीकरण समान देखने की यह गलत धारणा सामान्यतः चार बातों में समझी जाती है, जिन्हें हम आज से देखना आरंभ करेंगे।

समीकरण समान देखी जाने वाली पहली धारणा है भला व्यक्ति और भलाई का जीवन जीने वाला ईसाई व्यक्ति स्वतः ही प्रभु यीशु का जन है, उसे स्वीकार्य है। कोई भी व्यक्ति जब पापों से पश्चाताप करता है, उनसे मुँह मोड़कर, मसीह यीशु की आज्ञाकारिता में जीवन जीना आरंभ करता है, तो उसके जीवन से उसकी बुरी बातें, बुरे व्यवहार, बुरी आदतें भी हटने लग जाते हैं, और वह भली बातों, भले व्यवहार, भली आदतों आदि वाला व्यक्ति बनना आरंभ हो जाता है, इस परिवर्तन में अग्रसर होता रहता है, और कुछ समय में उसका यह परिवर्तित जीवन सभी को स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगता है, “सो यदि कोई मसीह में है तो वह नई सृष्‍टि है: पुरानी बातें बीत गई हैं; देखो, वे सब नई हो गईं” (2 कुरिन्थियों 5:17)। कहने का अर्थ है, मसीही विश्वासी बन जाने पर हर एक व्यक्ति का जीवन एक भला तथा भलाई का जीवन हो जाता है। अब जीवन में आए इस परिवर्तन को ही, मसीही विश्वास के स्थान पर ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वाले लोगों ने उपरोक्त गणित के समीकरण के समान लिया और समझा है। इन लोगों का विचार होता है, क्योंकि मसीही विश्वासी का जीवन भला और भलाई का जीवन होता है, इसलिए मसीह यीशु का नाम लेते हुए, हर भला तथा औरों की भलाई करने का जीवन जीने वाला व्यक्ति भी मसीही विश्वासी के समान उद्धार पाया हुआ ही है।

 

किन्तु यह बाइबल की दी बातों के आधार पर सत्य, तथा बाइबल की शिक्षा नहीं है। पहला आधार है बाइबल की यह बहुत स्पष्ट शिक्षा कि पापों की क्षमा, उद्धार, नया जन्म केवल पश्चाताप और प्रभु पर लाए गए विश्वास से है, मनुष्यों के कर्मों से बिल्कुल भी नहीं है: “जब हम अपराधों के कारण मरे हुए थे, तो हमें मसीह के साथ जिलाया; (अनुग्रह ही से तुम्हारा उद्धार हुआ है)” (इफिसियों 2:5); “क्योंकि विश्वास के द्वारा अनुग्रह ही से तुम्हारा उद्धार हुआ है, और यह तुम्हारी ओर से नहीं, वरन परमेश्वर का दान है। और न कर्मों के कारण, ऐसा न हो कि कोई घमण्‍ड करे” (इफिसियों 2:8, 9); “तो उसने हमारा उद्धार किया: और यह धर्म के कामों के कारण नहीं, जो हम ने आप किए, पर अपनी दया के अनुसार, नए जन्म के स्‍नान, और पवित्र आत्मा के हमें नया बनाने के द्वारा हुआ” (तीतुस 3:5)। और दूसरा आधार यह कि मसीह यीशु के नाम में यदि कोई अपनी मरज़ी, अपनी इच्छानुसार कुछ करे - वह चाहे कितना भी अद्भुत आश्चर्यकर्म या विलक्षण प्रचार ही क्यों न हो, किन्तु यदि प्रभु परमेश्वर की ओर से, प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता में नहीं किया गया है, तो न केवल वह प्रभु को अस्वीकार्य है, वरन प्रभु ऐसे कार्यों को “कुकर्म” कहता है, और उन्हें करने वालों को अपने से दूर कर देता है “जो मुझ से, हे प्रभु, हे प्रभु कहता है, उन में से हर एक स्वर्ग के राज्य में प्रवेश न करेगा, परन्तु वही जो मेरे स्‍वर्गीय पिता की इच्छा पर चलता है। उस दिन बहुतेरे मुझ से कहेंगे; हे प्रभु, हे प्रभु, क्या हम ने तेरे नाम से भविष्यवाणी नहीं की, और तेरे नाम से दुष्टात्माओं को नहीं निकाला, और तेरे नाम से बहुत अचम्भे के काम नहीं किए? तब मैं उन से खुलकर कह दूंगा कि मैं ने तुम को कभी नहीं जाना, हे कुकर्म करने वालों, मेरे पास से चले जाओ” (मत्ती 7:21-23)।

जो बात यहाँ पर ईसाई धर्म के पालन के उदाहरण द्वारा चित्रित की गई है, वही ठीक ऐसे ही, अन्य प्रत्येक धर्म के पालन के साथ भी लागू है। क्योंकि मसीही विश्वास लोगों को भला और भलाई करने वाला बना देता है, इसलिए इससे यह निष्कर्ष कदापि नहीं निकाला जा सकता है कि हर भला और भलाई करने वाला व्यक्ति उस गणित के समीकरण के समान, मसीही विश्वासी भी मान लिया जाएगा, और प्रभु को स्वीकार्य हो जाएगा, उद्धार या नया जन्म पाया और पापों की क्षमा पाया हुआ मान लिया जाएगा। ऐसी धारणा रखना, शैतान द्वारा फैलाया गया एक भ्रम है, धोखा है जिसमें किसी को भी नहीं पड़ना चाहिए। ईसाई धर्म का पालन करने वालों को भी अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने और यीशु मसीह को अपना उद्धारकर्ता प्रभु स्वीकार करने की उतनी ही आवश्यकता है, जितनी किसी भी अन्य जन को है। यह सभी के लिए परमेश्वर की आज्ञा है, “इसलिये परमेश्वर अज्ञानता के समयों में आनाकानी कर के, अब हर जगह सब मनुष्यों को मन फिराने की आज्ञा देता है। क्योंकि उसने एक दिन ठहराया है, जिस में वह उस मनुष्य के द्वारा धर्म से जगत का न्याय करेगा, जिसे उसने ठहराया है और उसे मरे हुओं में से जिलाकर, यह बात सब पर प्रमाणित कर दी है” (प्रेरितों 17:30-31)।

 

 यदि आपने अभी तक अपने आप को प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिष्यता में समर्पित नहीं किया है, और आप अभी भी अपने जन्म अथवा संबंधित धर्म तथा उसकी रीतियों के पालन के आधार पर अपने आप को प्रभु का जन समझ रहे हैं, तो आपको भी अपनी इस गलतफहमी से बाहर निकलकर सच्चाई को स्वीकार करने और उसका पालन करने की आवश्यकता है। आज और अभी आपके पास अपनी अनन्तकाल की स्थिति को सुधारने का अवसर है; प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation

 Christian Faith is Not a Mathematical Equation

    The collective conclusion of the previous two articles was that according to the Bible, The Word of God, to believe in the Lord Jesus means to accept and apply in one’s life the fact that only and only the Lord Jesus Christ can set a person free from sins, make him safe and secure; when a person accepts this and submits to the Lord Jesus, becomes “His people” it is then that the Lord Jesus is given the freedom in the person’s life to deliver him from sins and their harmful effects and make him safe and secure. Today we will consider this conclusion in some more detail to understand it better.

Generally, amongst those who follow the Christian religion, a tendency, a misunderstanding is seen regarding the Christian faith and the changes coming to faith in Christ Jesus brings in a person’s life; this tendency is to treat the effects of coming into Christian faith as a mathematical equation. A basic mathematical equation is that if “A” = “B” then “B” will always be = “A”. A commonly accepted notion, according to the understanding of this equation is, especially amongst those who profess to follow the Christian religion, that the presence of attitudes and behavior similar to the effects of coming to Christian faith, can be assumed to be the same as being in the Christian faith, e.g. a Christian Believer participates in the Lord’s Table, therefore those who participate in the Lord’s Table are Christian Believers; or a Christian Believer prays and studies the Bible, therefore all of those who pray and study the Bible are Christian Believers, etc. This tendency to treat the things of Christian faith as a mathematical equation is commonly seen in relation to four things; and we will start considering them from today.

The first thing commonly taken as a mathematical equation is that a good person, one living a life of goodness, automatically is one of “His people”, is acceptable to God. Any person when he repents of sins, turning away from them starts to live a life of obedience to the Lord Jesus, then things like practicing wrong things, bad behavior, bad habits, etc. keep getting removed from his life, and he tends to do the right things, good behavior, develops good habits etc., and he continues to grow and mature in these things, this change becomes very evident in his life, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). That is to say that everyone who becomes a Christian Believer, in his life this change for the better of being good and being good, i.e., living a life of goodness becomes an evident feature. This change that has come in life after coming into faith in Christ Jesus has been seen and used by the followers of the Christian religion like the aforementioned mathematical equation. Their concept and understanding is that since the life of a Christian Believer is life of being good and doing good, therefore every person who in the name of the Lord Jesus does good and lives good is a saved or Born-Again Christian Believer.

But this is neither true, nor the teaching of God’s Word, as can be seen from two facts from the Bible. First is that the Bible is very clear and unambiguous that forgiveness of sins, salvation, and being Born-Again, is only through repentance for sins and coming into faith in the Lord Jesus, not by any works done by men: “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)” (Ephesians 2:5); “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8, 9); “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5). And, the second is that if anybody does anything in the name of Christ Jesus, in his own will, according to his own choice and decision, if it is not from the Lord God, not done in obedience to the Lord, then not only is it not acceptable to the Lord, but the Lord actually calls all such works as “lawlessness”, and puts away all those who do so - no matter how good the preaching, how astounding the miraculous work, done by people in the name of the Lord, but in their own will “"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:21-23).

That which has been illustrated here through the Christian religion, the same holds true for every other religion as well, in just the same manner. Because the Christian faith converts a person into being good and doing good, therefore it cannot be concluded that every person who is good and does good, like the mathematical equation, will be seen and accepted as a Christian Believer, will be accepted by the Lord as one who has received the forgiveness of sins, has been saved, is Born-Again. Having this notion and believing in this thinking is falling for Satan’s deception; and one should beware of it, not believe in it. Even those practicing the Christian religion need to repent of their sins and accept the Lord Jesus as their saviour, personally and individually, like people practicing any other religion. This is God’s command for everyone, “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31).

If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches.

If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.

    कल हमने प्रभु यीशु मसीह में विश्वास करने के अर्थ को देखना आरंभ किया था। हमने इसे समझने के लिए परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल में से दो पदों, मत्ती 1:21 और यूहन्ना 1:12 को लिया था। हमने मत्ती 1:21 के आधार पर कल यह देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह का जन्म ही लोगों को उनके पापों से छुटकारा देने और सुरक्षित करने के उद्देश्य से हुआ था। प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही वे एकमात्र हैं जो मनुष्यों को उनके पापों से छुटकारा प्रदान कर सकते हैं, किसी भी मनुष्य के द्वारा अपने आप या अपने लिए यह कर पाना कभी संभव नहीं होने पाया था। किन्तु साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाया गया यह छुटकारा और सुरक्षा उनके लिए ही उपलब्ध और कारगर जो प्रभु यीशु के लोग हैं। जिसे भी यह छुटकारा और सुरक्षा चाहिए उसे पहले प्रभु का जन बनना पड़ेगा, और तब प्रभु द्वारा उपलब्ध करवाया गया यह उपाय उसके जीवन में कार्यकारी हो सकेगा। प्रभु का जन बनने का तरीका हमें यूहन्ना 1:12 में दिया गया है - स्वेच्छा से प्रभु यीशु को ग्रहण करना, और उसके नाम पर विश्वास करना। प्रभु यीशु का जन होना किसी मानवीय पद्धति या क्रिया से, अथवा अन्य किसी प्रकार से संभव नहीं है। 

“परन्तु जितनों ने उसे ग्रहण किया, उसने उन्हें परमेश्वर के सन्तान होने का अधिकार दिया, अर्थात उन्हें जो उसके नाम पर विश्वास रखते हैं। वे न तो लहू से, न शरीर की इच्छा से, न मनुष्य की इच्छा से, परन्तु परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं” (यूहन्ना 1:12-13)। इन पदों का दूसरा अर्ध-भाग स्पष्ट कर देता है कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह को अपना उद्धारकर्ता ग्रहण करने वाले किसी मनुष्य के वंश अथवा प्रयास से नहीं वरन मसीह में अपने विश्वास के द्वारा “परमेश्वर से उत्पन्न हुए हैं।”” और जिस विश्वास के द्वारा उनके लिए यह संभव हुआ है, वह प्रथम अर्ध-भाग के अंत में दिया गया है, “जो उसके नाम पर विश्वास रखते हैं।” इस वाक्यांश में एक छोटा सा शब्द ‘पर’ प्रमुख किया गया है, क्योंकि वही इस बात को समझने की कुंजी है। यह वाक्यांश बता रहा है कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह को वे ग्रहण करते हैं, परमेश्वर की संतान वे बनते हैं जो “उसके नाम” पर विश्वास करते हैं। 

इसे समझने के लिए इन दोनों शब्दों, “उसके” और “यीशु” को देखिए। यूहन्ना 1 अध्याय में इन पदों से पहले के पदों को देखने से स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि बात उस “वचन” अर्थात सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर की हो रही है, जो देहधारी होकर जगत में आया। अर्थात “उसके” से अभिप्राय उस सृष्टिकर्ता परमेश्वर से है जिसने मानव देह में होकर जन्म लिया। इस मानव देह में अवतरित परमेश्वर का नाम “यीशु” रखा गया। शब्द हिन्दी का शब्द “यीशु” बाइबल के नए नियम खंड की मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द “ईएसोऊस (Iesous)” से आया है। यूनानी भाषा का नाम “ईएसोऊस” पुराने नियम की मूल इब्रानी भाषा के नाम “यहोशूआ” से आया है। इब्रानी भाषा का नाम “येहोशूआ” एक संयुक्त शब्द है, जो दो शब्दों, संज्ञा “यहोवा” एवं शब्द “शूआ” की संधि से बना है। संज्ञा “यहोवा” इब्रानी में परमेश्वर का नाम है; और इब्रानी शब्द “शूआ” का अर्थ होता है “मुक्ति देने वाला” या “स्वतंत्र करने वाला”। अर्थात मूल इब्रानी भाषा के अनुसार शब्द “यहोशूआ” और उससे निकले यूनानी शब्द “ईएसोऊस” तथा हिन्दी शब्द “यीशु” का अर्थ है “यहोवा ही मुक्ति या स्वतंत्रता देने वाला है”। इसलिए यूहन्ना 1:12 के वाक्यांश “जो उसके नाम पर विश्वास रखते हैं” का अभिप्राय हो गया “जो यह विश्वास रखते हैं कि यहोवा ही मुक्ति या स्वतंत्रता देने वाला है”।

अर्थात, यीशु पर विश्वास करने, उस ग्रहण करने और इस के कारण परमेश्वर की संतान हो जाने का तात्पर्य है, इस तथ्य को ग्रहण करना या अपने जीवन में स्वीकार करना तथा कार्यान्वित करना कि केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही वह एकमात्र है जिसके द्वारा पापों से मुक्ति, नश्वर संसार से स्वतंत्रता मिल सकती है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह के अतिरिक्त और कोई मार्ग अथवा माध्यम या तरीका नहीं है, जैसा कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने स्वयं भी अपने विषय में कहा, “यीशु ने उस से कहा, मार्ग और सच्चाई और जीवन मैं ही हूं; बिना मेरे द्वारा कोई पिता के पास नहीं पहुंच सकता” (यूहन्ना 14:6)। मनुष्यों के अपने किसी भी प्रयास, विधि, कर्म, धर्म, जीवन शैली, आदि के द्वारा उसे उसके पापों से यह मुक्ति या स्वतंत्रता कदापि नहीं मिल सकती है। यह केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह के नाम पर लाए गए विश्वास द्वारा ही संभव है; किसी अन्य तरीके से नहीं। जो कोई भी स्वेच्छा और सत्य-निष्ठा से इस प्रकार प्रभु यीशु का जन हो जाएगा, मत्ती 1:21 के अनुसार, प्रभु यीशु उसे पापों से छुटकारा और सुरक्षा प्रदान करेगा, और वह परमेश्वर की संतान हो जाएगा। 

कल और आज के लेखों का सम्मिलित निष्कर्ष है कि परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास करने का अर्थ है यह ग्रहण करना और अपने जीवन में कार्यान्वित करना कि केवल और केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह ही मुझे मेरे पापों से छुड़ा सकता है, सुरक्षित कर सकता है; और जब मैं इस बात को ग्रहण करके अपने आप को उसे समर्पित कर दूँगा, उसका जन बना जाऊँगा, तब प्रभु यीशु मुझे मेरे पापों से छुड़ा कर उनके दुष्प्रभावों से सुरक्षित भी कर देगा, और परमेश्वर की संतान बनाकर उसका मेल-मिलाप परमेश्वर के साथ करवा देता है।

   

कल हम कुछ ऐसी बातों के बारे में देखेंगे, जिन पर सामान्यतः लोग भरोसा रखते हैं कि उनके द्वारा वे प्रभु के जन बन जाएंगे और पापों से छुटकारा एवं सुरक्षा पा जाएंगे, किन्तु यह केवल उनका भ्रम है, बाइबल की सच्चाई नहीं। यदि आपने अभी तक अपने आप को प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिष्यता में समर्पित नहीं किया है, और आप अभी भी अपने जन्म अथवा संबंधित धर्म तथा उसकी रीतियों के पालन के आधार पर अपने आप को प्रभु का जन समझ रहे हैं, तो आपको भी अपनी इस गलतफहमी से बाहर निकलकर सच्चाई को स्वीकार करने और उसका पालन करने की आवश्यकता है। आज और अभी आपके पास अपनी अनन्तकाल की स्थिति को सुधारने का अवसर है; प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

English Translation 

 Understanding the Meaning of “Believe in His Name”

    In the last article, we had started to see the meaning of believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. To understand this, we had taken two verses from God’s Word - Matthew 1:21 and John 1:12. We had seen on the basis of Matthew 1:21 that the Lord Jesus was born to deliver people from their sins and make them safe. The Lord Jesus is the one and only one who can deliver men from their sins, and it had never been possible for anyone, ever, to do this on his own or for himself. But we had also seen that this deliverance provided by the Lord Jesus Christ is only available and effective in the lives of those who are “His people.” Whosoever wants to have this deliverance and safety from the Lord, will first have to become “His people” and only then will this provision from the Lord become available to him, and effective in his life. The way to become “His people” is given to us in John 1:12 - to willingly accept the Lord Jesus and believe in His name. There is no other way, nor any man-made process by which one can become “His people.” 

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13). These verses, specially their second-half also make it very clear that those who accept the Lord Jesus as their saviour, are neither granted this privilege because of being born in any particular family nor do they accomplish this by any of their efforts of any kind, but it is by coming to faith in the Lord Jesus that they are born “of God.” The way by which they have come to faith in the Lord Jesus is stated in the first half, “those who believe in His name.” A small word “in” (in most English translations ‘in’ is used, some translations use ‘on’ instead of ‘in’ but the meaning and implication remains the same, whichever is used), that has been made prominent, holds the key to understanding this statement. This phrase or statement from these verses is telling us that “those who believe in His name”, only they are the ones who have actually accepted the Lord or come to faith in Him, and become the children of God. 

To understand this, we will also look at two other words, “His” and “Jesus.” When we look at the preceding verses in John 1, it becomes clear to us that the subject of this verse is the creator God, the “Word” that came to earth in human form.  This incarnate God, for His human form, was given the name “Jesus.” The word ‘Jesus’ is the translated form of the Greek word ‘Iesous’; and ‘Iesous’ has come from the original Hebrew Old Testament name ‘Jehoshua.’ The noun ‘Jehoshua’ is a compound word, and is made up of two words “Jehovah” and “shua.” The word “Jehovah” is the Hebrew language expression or name of God; whereas the Hebrew word “shua” means ‘the one who liberates’ or ‘the one who sets free.’ Therefore, the meaning of the Hebrew word ‘Jehoshua’, its Greek translation ‘Iesous’, and its English translation ‘Jesus’, is “Jehovah liberates/sets free” or “Jehovah delivers and makes safe.” Through this, i.e., the meaning of the John 1:12 phrase “those who believe in His name”, is now apparent, it means “those who believe and accept that it is only Jehovah who liberates/sets free.”

Therefore, to believe in the Lord Jesus, to accept Him and thereby become a child of God means to believe in and accept the fact that the Lord Jesus is the one and only one who can liberate or set free from sin and the perishing world, and then to put this into practice in one’s life. God’s Word the Bible, testifies to this, that other than the Lord Jesus there is no other way to be set free from sin, at other places too. The Lord Jesus said this about Himself “Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). No man can be liberated or set free from sin by any of his works, good deeds, religion, lifestyle, etc. This is only possible by believing in the name, i.e., in the meaning of the name of Jesus. Whosoever, willingly and sincerely, will become “His People” in this manner, as per Matthew 1:21, the Lord Jesus will deliver him from his sins and make him safe, he will become a child of God.

The collective conclusion of yesterday’s and today’s articles is that Biblically speaking, to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ means, to accept and apply in one’s life the fact that only and only the Lord Jesus can set me free from my sins and make me safe; and when a person accepts this and submits his life to the Lord Jesus to live in obedience to Him, he becomes “His people,” and the Lord Jesus cleanses him from his sins and secures him from their harmful effects, reconciles him with God as a child of God.

In the next article we will look at some things on which many people trust in, to become the Lord’s people and to be made free from sin and its effects; but these are only their assumptions, a delusion; and not the actual Biblical truth.
