यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की आज्ञाकारिता एवं अधीनता में वचन की सच्चाइयों को उससे समझें। किसी के भी द्वारा कही गई कोई भी बात को तुरंत ही पूर्ण सत्य के रूप में स्वीकार न करें, विशेषकर तब, जब वह बात बाइबल की अन्य बातों के साथ ठीक मेल नहीं रखती हो। सदा इस बात का ध्यान रखें कि वचन के हर शब्द, हर बात को न केवल उसके तात्कालिक संदर्भ में देखें, समझें, तथा व्याख्या करें, वरन यह भी सुनिश्चित करें कि आपकी वह समझ और व्याख्या वचन में अन्य स्थानों पर दी गई संबंधित बातों एवं शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप भी है, उनके साथ किसी प्रकार का कोई विरोधाभास नहीं है। कभी भी किसी भी गलत शिक्षा को न तो स्वीकार करें और न ही उसका प्रचार और प्रसार करें; परमेश्वर अपने वचन की सच्चाइयों की अवहेलना करने वालों को फिर उन्हीं की मनसा के अनुसार भयानक भ्रम और विनाश में डाल देता है (यहेजकेल 14:7-8; 2 थिस्सलुनीकियों 2:10-12)।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। स्वेच्छा से अपने पापों के लिये पश्चाताप करके, प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Summary of the Preceeding 7 Articles on this Topic
In our on-going series on stewardship of the God given provisions to every Born-Again Christian Believer along with salvation, presently we are learning about the Believers stewardship of the Church and his fellowship with the other Believers. While understanding from Matthew 16:18 about the Church being built by the Lord, we are now considering a very important question - whether the Church has been built, or was meant to be built on the Apostle Peter. A large section of Christendom very firmly believes that the Church was built on Peter, and the Lord Jesus said so, and did so.
But contrary to this popular belief and notion, there is no Scriptural evidence to back this up. In the last seven articles we have considered the Biblical evidence related to this notion. We have learnt that the Scriptures are very clear that the Church, from the very beginning, was meant to be built only on the Word of God, on the Lord Jesus Himself; and is being done so. Considering the importance and implications of this topic, in today's article we are presenting a brief summary of the past seven articles that have been on this topic, so that the readers have the “Biblical Evidence at a Glance” available to them, for their own consideration and conclusions. Each article on this topic has been summarized below.
Article 1: 1st July 2026:
In this article we briefly reviewed the important principles of Biblical interpretation; and saw that the most important principle is to study all Biblical texts in their context; immediate, as well as what is written at other places about it. Without considering and interpreting things in their context, errors and misinterpretations are the rule.
We took up our analysis of this topic by considering three questions:
Was the Lord’s statement in Matthew 16:18 about building His Church, about Peter?
Does the Scripture at any other place confirm, support, or reiterate this notion of the Church being built on Peter, or Peter being its foundation?
Was Peter even worthy of this honor, of being considered to be the foundation for the Church, or not?

In this article we looked at the first of the above three questions; and considered Matthew 16:18; which is commonly cited to say that the Lord Jesus has said that He will build the Church on Peter. We analyzed this verse in its context; and with meanings of the words used in the original Greek language. We did this through understanding the meanings of original Greek Word used for Peter i.e., petros, which means a pebble, something that is inherently movable, and unstable; and through seeing the Lord Jesus’s play on words through use of “petra” meaning a firm, unmovable rock; which Lord Jesus used to imply His Word, His teachings.
Our analysis showed that the Lord had not said that He will build His Church on Peter.
Article 3: 3rd July 2026
We then took up the second question, i.e., whether the Bible at any other place, in any way, affirms that the Church was meant to be built on, or was built on Peter?
We first saw whether Peter held any important or leadership role in the initial Church. We considered how factionalism on the basis of being followers of certain elders has been strongly spoken against in 1 Corinthians 3:10-13, and one of these named elders is Cephas - Peter. Every Believer must have allegiance only to the Lord Jesus. We learnt that no special status or importance was given to Peter. Instead those who were doing it on their own, for him, and for other elders, were censured for doing so, for giving undue importance to mere men.
We then saw from 1 Corinthians 3:11 that the one and only irrevocable, eternally unchangeable foundation of the Church is the Lord Jesus Himself.
Article 4: 4th July 2026
After 1 Corinthians 3:11, we saw another related verse - Ephesians 2:20-21, and learnt that the foundation of the Church are the teachings given by God through the Prophets and Apostles, i.e., God’s Word. By seeing this along with John 1:1, 2, 14 we understood that these teachings, i.e., the Word of God, are a metaphor for the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. We also saw from Ephesians 2:20-21 that the Lord Jesus Himself is the chief corner-stone that provides the reference point and maintains the correct direction of the super-structure of the building, the Church of God; and that the whole building, the Church is joined together and grows “in the Lord”, and not in Peter! So, whichever way one looks at it, there is no confirmation from God’s Word in any way about Peter being the foundation or base of the Church.
This is further affirmed from the fact that in his letters, Peter never even indicated, let alone say, that he has been appointed by the Lord to be the foundation of the Church, or that the Church will be built on him, and he is laboring to fulfill this responsibility.
We also saw from Acts 15, when the elders and apostles gathered together (Acts 15:6) to discuss and decide upon the wrong doctrines and false teachings that were being preached amongst the Believers, Peter showed no particular role of importance or of any leadership in the proceedings of that Council meeting; he was there as just any other member of the Council.
Article 5: 5th July 2026
Having considered our first two questions, in this and the subsequent articles we took up our third question, “Was Peter even worthy of this honor, of being considered to be the foundation for the Church?”
We know that Peter had many short-comings before the Lord’s crucifixion and resurrection. But after the Lord’s resurrection, having spent forty days with him, the disciples, including Peter, were greatly strengthened and emboldened. Then after the Lord’s ascension, they were further empowered by receiving the Holy Spirit.
So, in analyzing whether Peter was indeed suitable for the Church to be built on him, we have considered only the incidents from his life that happened after he, along with others, had received the Holy Spirit, and was now engaged in fulfilling Acts 1:8. We deliberately have not taken up or said anything about Peter’s life and behavior before the Lord’s crucifixion and resurrection.
In this 5th article, part-1 of considering our third question, we started off by recalling the Lord’s parable at the beginning of the Lord’s ministry, given at the end of the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 7:24-27. This famous parable is about the two builders - one built on sand, and the other built on “petra” - a rock. The Lord’s conclusion was that the wise builder was the one who built on the rock solid foundation of the Lord’s teachings. Therefore, there is no way the Lord would have gone against His own teachings, and made the vacillating and fallible person Peter, the foundation of His Church that was to stand up against the onslaught of evil forces.
We also reviewed “The Great Commission” the Lord gave to His disciples before His ascension, recorded in Matthew 28:18-20 and saw that the Lord instructed His disciple to teach the newcomers to faith in the Lord, all of what the Lord had taught the initial disciples. The point to note was that the Lord did not instruct them to teach to the newcomers what Peter, as the foundation and basis of the Church, would instruct, preach, and tell them. This once again confirmed that the Church is built upon the Lord’s teachings, not any person’s.
Article 6: 6th July 2026
In this article, part-2 of considering the third question, we looked at instances of Peter’s behavior in the early part of his ministry. In this article through four incidents we mentioned three character and behavior flaws in him that made him unsuitable to be a person holding such a great responsibility of the Church being built on him. Had the Church started on a shaky, fallible foundation, then would it even have begun to grow, before it fatally crashed on its fallible foundation?
We saw the first character and behavior flaw - that Peter was rash and impulsive and his actions caused others to fall into the same mistakes, through two incidents. The first incident is in John 21:2-3, where he impulsively decided to go back to fishing. And his impatience and rashness, caused six other disciples to do the same. The second was impulsively, on his own, without any recorded instruction from the Lord to do it, Peter decided to fill up the position left vacant by Judas Iscariot’s death (Acts 1:15-26). Again, he led others into doing what he did. But there is no Scriptural affirmation that the person they chose and appointed “as chosen by God” (Acts 1:24), was accepted by God to take that position. This place of being the twelfth Apostle was later given to Paul.
The second character and behavior flaw we saw was that Peter was prone to be more concerned on his comparisons with others around him, comparing them with himself, than on what the Lord was saying to him about what he was supposed to do. We see this from John 21:18-22, where the Lord is instructing him about his ministry and work in the days to come, but Peter’s attention is upon his colleague John and what was to happen to John. The Lord had to admonish Peter (v. 22) to get him to pay attention to the Lord.
The third character and behavior flaw we saw was that, at least in his initial days Peter, was not mature enough to understand heavenly visions and to work according to them; on the basis of his own understanding, he would even refuse to do God’s bidding. We saw this from Acts 10-10-20 - the incidence of Peter’s vision, and his being sent by God to go to the house of Cornelius.
Article 7: 7th July 2026
This article, part - 3 of our considering the third question, was about considering Peter’s behavior in the early part of his ministry, as well as his behavior about two decades into the ministry, since the Lord called him to be a fisher of men. And here we saw two more character and behavior flaws in him.
The fourth character and behavior flaw we saw was that at least in his initial days, Peter did not have the vision of the world-wide Church of the Lord that included the gentiles. In Acts chapter 10, Peter exposed this lack of spiritual maturity and lack of understanding about the Church, through his words and behavior on reaching the house of Cornelius. After reaching the house of Cornelius, Peter tries to show off his ‘superiority’ as a Jew, instead of treating the one to whom the Lord has sent him to preach the gospel, respectfully (Acts 10:28-29).
The fifth character and behavior flaw we saw was that even about two decades into his ministry, since the Lord had called him, Peter was prone to being hypocritical and a pleaser of men - which, once again, caused other Believers to commit the same error as he was committing. We see this in Galatians 2:11-21; and for this not only was Peter openly and severely rebuked by Paul; but the Holy Spirit also had the rebuke and deprecating words recorded forever in the unalterable Word of God; so that it serves a lesson for all others, for all times to come.
So, through these seven articles, we have seen on the basis of the Bible, through the life and incidences from Peter’s life as recorded under the guidance of the Holy Spirit for all eternity that Peter was not, could not be, and was never made the foundation of the Lord’s Church; the Lord’s Church was never meant to be, nor was ever built on Peter. Rather, God’s Word clearly, unambiguously and in more ways than one shows that the Lord Jesus and His teachings, i.e., the Word of God are the one and only Rock, the “Petra” on which the Church has been built.
From the next article, we will begin considering the Church being built on the Lord Jesus.
If you are a Christian Believer, then you should learn to discern and understand the truths of God’s Word under the guidance and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Do not accept anything and everything as the truth unless and until you have cross-checked and verified it from the Bible with the help of the Holy Spirit; more so when that thing does not seem to be consistent with the other related things of the Bible. Those who knowingly and willingly choose to go against the truths and facts of God’s Word, choose to believe and do according to their thinking and mentality, God sends them into a terrible deception and destruction (Ezekiel 14:7-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12).
If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life. Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
