    पिछले लेख में हमने 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 में दिए गए आत्मिक वरदानों को देखना आरंभ किया था। यहाँ दिए गए 9 विभिन्न वरदानों: “बुद्धि का बातें”; “ज्ञान की बातें”; “विश्वास”; “चंगा करने का वरदान”; “सामर्थ्य के काम करने की शक्ति”; “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति”; “आत्माओं की परख”; “अनेक प्रकार की भाषा”; “भाषाओं का अर्थ बताना” में से हमने पहले पाँच के बारे में देखा था। साथ ही हमने यह भी देखा था कि पवित्र आत्मा के सभी वरदान किसी के निज प्रयोग अथवा लाभ के लिए नहीं हैं, वरन, सभी के लिए और मसीही विश्वासियों की मण्डली की उन्नति और लाभ के लिए हैं। जिसे भी उसकी सेवकाई के लिए जो भी वरदान परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ने प्रदान किया है, उसे वह वरदान पवित्र आत्मा की अगुवाई में, सभी मसीही विश्वासियों के लाभ के लिए प्रयोग करना है, अपने लिए नहीं। आज हम शेष चार में से दो वरदानों के बारे में कुछ विवरण देखेंगे:

• “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति”: मूल यूनानी भाषा के जिस शब्द का अनुवाद “भविष्यवाणी” किया गया है, उसका शब्दार्थ न केवल भविष्य की बातें बताना होता है, वरन प्रेरणा पाकर औरों के सामने, या औरों की उपस्थिति में बोलना या बताना भी होता है। 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:3 में इसी शब्द को, केवल भविष्य की बातें ही नहीं, वरन “”... मनुष्यों से उन्नति, और उपदेश, और शान्ति की बातें” कहने के लिए भी प्रयोग किया गया है। इसी प्रकार से लूका 22:64 में, जब पकड़वाए जाने के बाद सैनिकों द्वारा प्रभु का उपहास किया जा रहा था, तब इसी शब्द का उपयोग वर्तमान में जारी घटना में “बूझने” या “पता लगाकर बताने” के लिए भी हुआ है, “और उस की आंखें ढांपकर उस से पूछा, कि भविष्यद्वाणी कर के बता कि तुझे किसने मारा”। इसी प्रकार से इस शब्द को बाइबल में विभिन्न स्थानों में उसके भिन्न अर्थों के साथ उपयोग किया गया है। पवित्र आत्मा न केवल कुछ लोगों को भविष्य की बातें बताने की सामर्थ्य देता है (प्रेरितों 21:9-11), वरन कुछ लोगों को परमेश्वर की बातें औरों के सामने या औरों की उपस्थिति में बोलने की भी सामर्थ्य देता है (1 कुरिन्थियों 11:4,5; 13:9; 14:3-5, 24, 31, 39; प्रकाशितवाक्य 11:3), और इन सभी स्थानों पर, यही शब्द उपयोग किया गया है। इसलिए “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति” केवल भविष्य में होने वाली घटनाओं को बताने का वरदान नहीं है, वरन परमेश्वर का प्रतिनिधि बनकर परमेश्वर के वचन को औरों के सामने बोलने और प्रचार करने का वरदान भी है। 

• “आत्माओं की परख”: पहली कलीसिया की स्थापना, और प्रभु के शिष्यों द्वारा सुसमाचार प्रचार के आरंभ होने के साथ ही शैतान की ओर से झूठे प्रचारकों ने भी अपना काम करना आरंभ कर दिया (1 यूहन्ना 2:18; 4:1)। प्रभु यीशु के नाम से प्रचार को कमाई का साधन बना कर प्रयोग करने वाले (रोमियों 16:18; फिलिप्पियों 3:18, 19), और गलत शिक्षाओं के देने वाले (2 कुरिन्थियों 4:2; 2 पतरस 2:1; 2 यूहन्ना 1:7) भी मण्डलियों और लोगों में फैलने लगे, और इन बातों तथा अपने ऐसे ही अन्य कार्यों के द्वारा लोगों को बहकाने लगे, गलत शिक्षाओं और अनुचित बातों में पाठ-भ्रष्ट करने लगे थे। उस समय में, जब आज के समान लिखित वचन लोगों के हाथ में नहीं था, अधिकांशतः मसीही जीवन की शिक्षाएं, सुसमाचार प्रचार, और प्रभु की बातों का प्रसार, मौखिक प्रचार और संबोधनों के द्वारा होता था। ऐसे में, इन शैतान के लोगों के झूठ और गलत शिक्षाओं को तुरंत ही परखने, पहचानने, और प्रकट करने के लिए, वचन को जानने, जाँचने, और सच को उजागर करने की शक्ति पवित्र आत्मा लोगों को देता था, जिससे वे झूठ को प्रकट कर के लोगों को गलत शिक्षाओं से बचा सकें (1 कुरिन्थियों 14:29)। यह कार्य आज भी पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से कुछ लोग विभिन्न तरीकों से करते रहते हैं, अन्यथा गलत शिक्षाओं की भरमार में मसीही विश्वासियों के लिए सत्य की पहचान करना बहुत कठिन हो जाएगा। 

 

    हम 2 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 में उल्लेखित वरदानों में से शेष दो, जो “अन्य-भाषा” से सम्बन्धित हैं – अन्य-भाषा बोलना और अन्य-भाषा का अर्थ बताना को अगले लेख में देखेंगे।

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Gifts of the Holy Spirit – 3

 

    From the previous article we had started to see about the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Of the 9 different gifts, “word of wisdom,” “word of knowledge,” “faith,” “healing,” “miracles,” “prophecy,” “discerning of spirits,” “different kinds of tongues,” and “interpretation of tongues” mentioned in these 5 verses, we had seen about the first 5. We had also seen that none of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for any person’s personal use or benefit; rather, all the gifts are meant for the help and benefit of everyone in the Church. Whichever gift anyone has received for their God assigned work and ministry, he has to use that gift under the guidance of God the Holy Spirit, for the benefit of the Christian Believers, not for himself alone. Today we will see about two from the remaining four gifts:

• “Prophecy”: The word used in the original Greek language, that has been has translated as “prophecy” means “to speak forth” - not only in time, i.e., tell about future events or things, but also to be inspired to speak before, or in the presence of others, or tell others. The same word has been used in 1 Corinthians 14:3 “But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men” to convey that to prophecy also means to edify, exhort, and comfort others; and not only to tell about future things. Similarly, in Luke 22:64, when the soldiers were mocking the Lord Jesus caught for crucifixion, the same word has been used "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?" with the meaning of telling about an ongoing event. At other places too, in the Bible, this word has been used in its various meanings. The Holy Spirit not only gives the power to tell about the future events to some people (Acts 21:9-11), but also gives the power and ability to speak the things of God before, i.e., while in presence of others (1 Corinthians 11:4,5; 13:9; 14:3-5, 24, 31, 39; Revelation 11:3), and for all these, the same word has been used. So, the gift of “prophecy” is not just the gift of foretelling events, but also the gift of speaking and preaching God’s Word as the spokesman of God, before others.

• “Discerning of spirits”: Along with the establishing of the first Church, and the beginning of the preaching of the gospel by the Lord’s disciples at various places, false preachers and teachers from Satan too started their work (1 John 2:18; 4:1), those who preach wrong doctrines and false teachings started to grow and spread (2 Corinthians 4:2; 2 Peter 2:1; 2 John 1:7), and people started to use the name of the Lord Jesus and preaching in His name as a means of earning money (Romans 16:18; Philippians 3:18, 19), and through all these and other similar things started to mislead and beguile people into wrong ways. At that time, when, unlike today, the people did not have the written Word in their hands, and usually all preaching about Christian Living, preaching the Gospel, and spreading the teachings of the Lord was done through oral preaching and addressing people. In such a situation, the Holy Spirit gave the ability to some people to immediately recognize the lies and false teachings of Satan and expose them to others. The Holy Spirit also gave the power and ability to know, examine, and teach God’s Word and to expose the false teachings, so that they could expose the lies and save others from wrong teachings and false doctrines (1 Corinthians 14:29). This work is done even today by some people under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit; else in the rampant spread of the wrong doctrines and false teachings amongst Christian Believers today, it would become very difficult to discern the truth.

 

    In the next article we will consider the remaining two gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, related to “tongues” – speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

    प्रत्येक नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासी को, उसके मसीही जीवन और सेवकाई में सहायता के लिए, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा कोई न कोई आत्मिक वरदान दिया गया है। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर ने जो सेवकाई उस विश्वासी को सौंपी है, उसे के आधार पर पवित्र आत्मा उसे उपयुक्त वरदान देता है। हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में प्रत्येक वरदान, प्रत्येक सेवकाई, समान महत्व के हैं, उनमें कोई भिन्नता नहीं है, और वरदान व्यक्ति की इच्छा के अनुसार परिवर्तित नहीं किए जाते हैं; वाक्यांश “बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की धुन में रहो” का अभिप्राय है कि कलीसिया और मण्डली के लोगों के मध्य सबसे अधिक उपयोगी होने की धुन में रहो। परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए प्रावधानों के भण्डारी होने के नाते, प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी को बाइबल में उल्लेखित पवित्र आत्मा के विभिन्न वरदानों की बुनियादी बातों के बारे में पता होना चाहिए।  हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 में पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिए गए 9 वरदानों को देखते हैं। आज से हम इन वरदानों के बारे में बुनियादी बातों को देखेंगे और इन वरदानों की उपयोगिता को समझते हैं:

• “बुद्धि का बातें”: बुद्धि या बुद्धिमत्ता का अर्थ होता है किसी परिस्थिति या आवश्यकता के अनुसार उपलब्ध ज्ञान एवं संसाधनों का उपयुक्त उपयोग करना; किसी कार्य को भली-भांति या लाभदायक रीति से कर पाना। इसे भजन 119:97-105 के साथ देखने से यह और अधिक स्पष्ट हो जाता है। 

• “ज्ञान की बातें”: ज्ञान किसी बात या विषय की जानकारी होने या उसे एकत्रित करने के लिए है। सामान्य व्यवहार में बुद्धिमत्ता और ज्ञान एक दूसरे के पूरक हैं, और साथ-साथ उपयोग होते हैं; एक के बिना दूसरा ठीक से उपयोग नहीं किया जा सकता है। किन्तु ज्ञान शारीरिक भी हो सकता है और ईश्वरीय भी; शारीरिक ज्ञान शैतानी होता है और स्वयं तथा औरों के लिए हानिकारक होता है, और ईश्वरीय ज्ञान आत्मा के फलों के अनुसार होता है (याकूब 3:14-17)। पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा दिया जाने वाला “ज्ञान” ईश्वरीय ज्ञान है, और इस ज्ञान का बुद्धि के साथ किया गया उपयोग व्यक्ति तथा औरों के लिए उन्नति लाता है। 

• “विश्वास”: बहुत सी ईश्वरीय बातें मनुष्य को अपनी सांसारिक बुद्धि से अविश्वसनीय लगती हैं, समझ में नहीं आती हैं। उदाहरण के लिए यह स्वीकार कर लेना कि प्रभु यीशु मसीह ने समस्त मानवजाति के पापों की पूरी-पूरी कीमत चुका दी है, अब उन पर लाए विश्वास के द्वारा मनुष्य अनन्तकाल के नरक के दण्ड से बचकर, परमेश्वर की संतान बनकर अनन्तकाल के लिए परमेश्वर के साथ स्वर्ग में रहने लगता है, मानवीय बुद्धि और ज्ञान के आधार पर बहुतों के लिए कठिन होता है। किन्तु पवित्र आत्मा इसे और परमेश्वर की अन्य अद्भुत और अविश्वसनीय प्रतीत होने वाली बातों को मानने के लिए आवश्यक विश्वास प्रदान करता है। इसीलिए याकूब ने लिखा है कि जिसे बुद्धि की घटी है वह परमेश्वर से मांगे और उसे दी जाएगी (याकूब 1:5-6)। इब्रानियों 11 अध्याय में पुराने नियम के उन विश्वास के दिग्गजों के नाम दिए गए हैं, जिन्होंने परमेश्वर की अविश्वसनीय प्रतीत होने वाली बातों पर भी विश्वास किया और ऐसे-ऐसे कार्य करे जो उनके अपने लिए तथा औरों के लिए असंभव थे। 

• “चंगा करने का वरदान”: प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों के द्वारा शारीरिक रोगों से चंगाई भी पवित्र आत्मा की सामर्थ्य से दी जाती है, और चंगाई का यह वरदान भी परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा किसी-किसी मसीही सेवक को देता है, हर किसी को नहीं। किन्तु जिस प्रकार से आज इस वरदान का प्रयोग किया जा रहा है, वैसा बाइबल में कभी नहीं किया गया है। बाइबल में कहीं पर भी “चंगाई की सभाएं” आयोजित करने, चंगाई प्राप्त करने को लोगों को लुभाने और एकत्रित करने, और शारीरिक चंगाई की शिक्षा को सुसमाचार प्रचार, अर्थात आत्मिक चंगाई पाने पर प्रमुखता एवं प्राथमिकता दिए जाने का कोई उल्लेख या उदाहरण नहीं है। शारीरिक चंगाई, चाहे प्रभु यीशु के द्वारा, या फिर उनके शिष्यों क द्वारा, जब भी दी गई है, व्यक्तिगत रीति से, व्यक्ति विशेष को, उससे बात करने के बाद दी गई है। किन्तु आज चंगाई देना मनुष्यों के नाम के प्रचार और प्रशंसा प्राप्त करने का माध्यम बन गया है। इस वरदान का बाइबल की शिक्षाओं के अनुरूप उचित उपयोग करने के स्थान पर इसका प्रभु यीशु के नाम में व्यक्तिगत प्रशंसा और लाभ के लिए किया जाने वाला दुरुपयोग और इसे अनुचित शिक्षाओं के साथ मिलाकर लोगों में प्रदर्शन करना, आज मसीही विश्वास और सुसमाचार प्रचार के लिए बहुत बड़ी मुसीबत और बाधा बना हुआ है। 

• “सामर्थ्य के काम करने की शक्ति”: यद्यपि यहाँ पर यह नहीं बताया गया है कि ये सामर्थ्य के काम कौन से हैं, किन्तु मूल यूनानी भाषा के शब्द का अंग्रेजी अनुवाद “miracles” किया गया है। अर्थात ऐसे कार्य जो सामान्य मानवीय योग्यता, शक्ति, एवं क्षमताओं के द्वारा किया जाना संभव नहीं है। इन विभिन्न प्रकार के कार्यों को हम इब्रानियों 11 अध्याय में दिए गए विश्वास के दिग्गजों द्वारा परमेश्वर और उसके वचन में विश्वास के द्वारा की गई बातों से भी समझ सकते हैं। उनके विश्वास को व्यावहारिक रूप में कार्यान्वित परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ही करवाता रहा।

     शेष वरदानों, “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति”; “आत्माओं की परख”; “अनेक प्रकार की भाषा”; “भाषाओं का अर्थ बताना” को हम अगले लेख में देखेंगे। यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो आपके लिए यह अति आवश्यक है कि आप अपनी सेवकाई को पहचानें और उस सेवकाई के लिए पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा आपको प्रदान किए गए वरदानों को भी पहचानें, उनके महत्व को समझें, और उनका उपयुक्त उपयोग करें, जिससे सुसमाचार का प्रचार और प्रसार, तथा परमेश्वर के नाम की महिमा हो। जो भी सेवकाई और वरदान परमेश्वर ने आप को प्रदान किए हैं, वही आपके ले लिए सही और आशीषपूर्ण हैं। उन्हें बदलने के व्यर्थ प्रयासों और गलत शिक्षाओं में मत फंसें; वरन उन्हें पवित्र आत्मा के निर्देशानुसार उपयोग कीजिए और परमेश्वर की आशीषों से परिपूर्ण होते चले जाइए।

Gifts of the Holy Spirit – 2

 

    Every Born-Again Christian Believer, for help and utilization in his Christian life and ministry, has received some gift or the other from God the Holy Spirit. We have seen that it is the Holy Spirit who decides which gift to give to whom on the basis of the ministry entrusted to the Believer by God. We have also seen that in God’s eyes every gift and ministry is equal, there is no differentiation, and gifts are not changed according to one’s desire; the phrase “desire the best gifts” simply means desire to be most useful in the Church and congregation. As part of their stewardship of God given provisions, every Christian Believer must know the basics about the various gifts of the holy Spirit mentioned in the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit are mentioned. Let us see some basic facts about them, and understand the utility of these gifts:

• “Word of wisdom”: Wisdom is the ability to properly use the knowledge and available resources in any given situation; to be able to do a job well, and in a beneficial manner. Consider this along with Psalm 119:97-105 and the meaning will become clearer.

• “Word of knowledge”: Knowledge is accumulating what is known about a topic or thing. In general behavior, wisdom and knowledge complement each other, and are used along with each other; one cannot be used well without the other. But knowledge can be temporal or physical as well as godly; temporal or physical knowledge can be satanic, is harmful for the person as well as others, whereas godly knowledge is in accordance with the fruits of the Holy Spirit (James 3:14-17). The knowledge given by the Holy Spirit is godly, and its use with wisdom brings benefits for the person as well as others.

• “Faith”: Many godly things seem impossible or unbelievable by the worldly wisdom, and are very difficult to understand. For example, to accept that the Lord Jesus has paid in full the price of the sins of the entire mankind, and now by coming into faith in Him man can be saved from the eternal punishment in hell, and spend eternity in heaven with God as his child, is very difficult if not impossible by man’s own knowledge and wisdom. But the Holy Spirit gives the requisite faith to accept this and other seemingly too wonderful and unbelievable things of God. That is why James has written that the one who lacks wisdom should ask God for it, and it will be given to him (James 1:5-6). In Hebrews 11 we have listed for us the names of the Heroes of Faith from the Old Testament who believed even on the seemingly impossible things of God and then through their faith in God and His Word did things which were impossible for others.

• “Gifts of Healing”: The physical healings done by the disciples of the Lord Jesus are done by the power of the Holy Spirit, and this gift of healing is given by God to some, not to everyone. But the way this gift is being promoted and used today, has never been done in the Bible. In the Bible there is no mention of any “Healing Campaigns or Meetings” being organized and advertised; there is no mention in the Bible of people being enticed for physical healings, and this preaching of healings taking precedence over the preaching of the Gospel, the message of salvation, i.e., the ‘healing’ of the spirit. The pattern we see throughout God’s Word is that any physical healing given to any person, has always been given personally, and after talking with that person. But today, physical healing has become a method of preaching about and promoting persons, acquiring name and fame. Instead of using this gift in accordance with the Biblical teachings about it, it is being misused to gain name, fame, and temporal benefits in the name of the Lord Jesus, and to preach many wrong doctrines and false teachings along with it. And this has become a big problem for the actual Christian Faith and for preaching and propagating the Gospel of Salvation.

• “Working of Miracles”: The kinds of miracles have not been specified here, the term generally means those works or things that are not possible through human ability, power, and skills. What these kinds of works are can be well understood from the works done by the Heroes of Faith mentioned in Hebrews 11, because of their faith in God and His Word. It was the Spirit of God who gave a practical working to their faith.

 

We will see about the remaining gifts, “prophecy,” “discerning of spirits,” “different kinds of tongues,” and “interpretation of tongue” in the next article. If you are a Christian Believer then it is very essential for you to know and understand your ministry, and the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to you to fulfil the work and ministry. You should understand the importance of the gifts, and how to use them appropriately and effectively, so that through you and your ministry the Gospel of salvation is preached and propagated worthily and God’s name is glorified. Whichever gifts the Holy Spirit has given to you, they are the best, most beneficial, and most rewarding for you. Do not get caught up in the false teaching and vain efforts of trying to change them or acquire some other gifts. Rather, use your gifts for your God assigned works and ministry and you will grow and be filled with the blessings of the Lord God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.

पवित्र आत्मा के वरदान – 1

 

    पिछले लेखों में हमने देखा है कि न तो कोई आत्मिक वरदान और न ही कोई मसीही सेवकाई, किसी भी अन्य से न तो छोटी अथवा बड़ी, या कम अथवा अधिक महत्वपूर्ण है; परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में सभी समान हैं। बाइबल यही सिखाती है कि सभी वरदानों का उपयोग किसी के निज प्रयोग अथवा भलाई के लिए नहीं वरन मण्डली के सभी लोगों की भलाई के लिए होना है। सभी वरदान परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा प्रत्येक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा नियुक्त सेवकाई को सुचारु रीति से पूरा करने के लिए दिए जाते हैं; किसको क्या वरदान मिलना है, यह व्यक्ति की इच्छा के अनुसार नहीं, अपितु पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा निर्धारित किया जाता है। हमने यह भी देखा था कि 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 में वाक्यांश “बड़े से बड़े वरदान की धुन में रहो” का अभिप्राय मण्डली में परमेश्वर के लिए अधिक से अधिक उपयोगी होने की “धुन में रहने” या हार्दिक इच्छा बनाए रखने के लिए है, वरदानों को बड़ा या छोटा बताने और वरदानों में बदलाव करवाने के लिए नहीं। इस वाक्यांश के विषय यह भी ध्यान कीजिए कि “धुन में रहो” लिखा गया है; किन्तु यह नहीं कहा गया है कि ऐसा करने से पवित्र आत्मा विश्वासी के “धुन में रहने” के अनुसार उसके वरदानों और सेवकाई में कोई परिवर्तन कर देगा - जैसा कि बहुधा पवित्र आत्मा से संबंधित गलत शिक्षाएं सिखाने वाले अभिप्राय देते हैं, और इसके लिए इस पद का दुरुपयोग करते हैं। 

    आज से हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 के इन 5 पदों में दिए गए विभिन्न वरदानों को थोड़ा और गहराई से देखते हैं। ध्यान कीजिए कि यहाँ हर वरदान के साथ लिखा है, “किसी को...”; अर्थात हर किसी को सभी वरदान नहीं दिए गए हैं, और हर किसी को एक ही वरदान नहीं दिया गया है; वरन अलग-अलग सेवकों को, उनकी सेवकाई के अनुसार ही अलग-अलग वरदान दिए गए हैं। इसलिए किसी को भी किसी दूसरे के वरदान को लेकर ईर्ष्या या कोई अनुचित भावना नहीं रखनी चाहिए। यहाँ दिए गए वरदानों के अतिरिक्त भी पवित्र आत्मा के वरदान हैं, जो बाइबल की अन्य पुस्तकों में दिए गए हैं। अभी के लिए हम 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7-11 में दिए गए वरदानों को ही देखना आरंभ करेंगे। इन 5 पदों में 9 विभिन्न वरदान दिए गए हैं; ये वरदान हैं: “बुद्धि का बातें”; “ज्ञान की बातें”; “विश्वास”; “चंगा करने का वरदान”; “सामर्थ्य के काम करने की शक्ति”; “भविष्यवाणी करने की शक्ति”; “आत्माओं की परख”; “अनेक प्रकार की भाषा”; “भाषाओं का अर्थ बताना”। इस खंड का आरंभ इन सभी वरदानों के सभी लोगों के लाभ के लिए होने, और पवित्र आत्मा के द्वारा होने (पद 7), और अंत इनके पवित्र आत्मा की इच्छा के अनुसार दिए जाने तथा इनका उपयोग पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा ही करवाए जाने (पद 11) से होता है। अर्थात आत्मिक वरदानों से संबंधित सब कुछ - उनका उद्देश्य, उन्हें प्रयोग करने की क्षमता, किस को क्या वरदान दिया जाना है का निर्णय, आदि, सभी परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा के अधिकार में है, यह पूर्णतः उनकी ओर से और उनके द्वारा है; किसी मनुष्य की इसमें कोई भूमिका अथवा अधिकार नहीं है, जैसा कि इस खंड से पहले पद 4-6 में भी लिखा गया है।

    एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण बात जो इस अध्याय के 7 पद में, आत्मिक वरदानों के उल्लेख से भी पहले कही गई है, किन्तु जिस पर अधिकांशतः लोग ध्यान नहीं देते हैं, वह है, “किन्तु सब के लाभ पहुंचाने के लिये हर एक को आत्मा का प्रकाश दिया जाता है” (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:7)। हम इससे पहले के कुछ लेखों में परमेश्वर की कार्यविधि को समझते हुए, यह देख चुके हैं कि हमारा परमेश्वर पिता हमेशा सभी की भलाई के लिए ही कार्य करता है, और जो आशीषें वह देता है, वह किसी व्यक्ति के अपने निज लाभ और प्रयोग के लिए ही नहीं होती हैं, वरन, उस व्यक्ति में होकर सभी के लाभ और उन्नति के लिए होती हैं। यही बात यहाँ इस 7 पद में कही गई है। पवित्र आत्मा स्वयं इस बात को पहले ही लिखवा दे रहा है कि हर एक को जो भी आत्मिक वरदान पवित्र आत्मा की ओर से दिया गया है, वह सभी के लाभ के लिए है। इसकी पुष्टि एक बार फिर से 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:12 “इसलिये तुम भी जब आत्मिक वरदानों की धुन में हो, तो ऐसा प्रयत्न करो, कि तुम्हारे वरदानों की उन्नति से कलीसिया की उन्नति हो” में हो जाती है। यद्यपि यह बात अन्य-भाषा बोलने के संदर्भ में कही गई है, किन्तु फिर भी यह ध्यान देने योग्य बात है कि यहाँ पर इसे बलपूर्वक दोहराया गया है कि सभी के आत्मिक वरदानों के द्वारा कलीसिया ही की उन्नति होनी चाहिए; और 1 कुरिन्थियों 14:2-5 पद तथा इस अध्याय के अन्य पद भी यह स्पष्ट कर देते हैं कि अन्य भाषा बोलना भी कलीसिया की उन्नति के लिए ही है, किसी भी व्यक्ति के अपने निज प्रयोग अथवा लाभ के लिए नहीं। यद्यपि यह हमारे वर्तमान विषय से बाहर की चर्चा है, किन्तु इस संदर्भ में यह कहना बहुत आवश्यक है कि बाइबल में जिसे “अन्य भाषा” कहा गया है वह पृथ्वी की ही, और जानी पहचानी भाषाएं हैं, जिनके नाम हैं, जो विभिन्न भौगोलिक क्षेत्रों में मनुष्यों द्वारा बोली जाती हैं, और जिनके अनुवाद किसी अन्य क्षेत्र की भाषा में किए जा सकते हैं। पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से गलत शिक्षाएं फैलाने वालों की इस गलत शिक्षा का कि अन्य भाषाएं अलौकिक, पृथ्वी के बाहर की भाषा है, बाइबल में कोई समर्थन नहीं है। 1 कुरिन्थियों 14 अध्याय ही ध्यान से और प्रार्थना पूर्वक पढ़ लीजिए, वास्तविकता स्वतः ही प्रकट हो जाएगी। अगले लेख से हम उपरोक्त पवित्र आत्मा के 9 वरदानों में से प्रत्येक के बारे में कुछ-कुछ देखेंगे।

English Translation

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit – 1

 

    In the previous articles we have seen that neither any Spiritual Gift, nor any Christian Ministry is greater or smaller, or of greater or lesser importance than any other; in the eyes of God all are equal. The Bible teaches that all the Spiritual Gifts are to be used not for anyone’s personal benefit, but for the benefit of the people of the Church. All the gifts are given by God the Holy Spirit, so that the Believer can do his God assigned work and ministry properly and worthily. It is the Holy Spirit who decides which gift to give to whom; these gifts are not according to the desires of any person and no man can demand any particular gift from Him. We had also seen that the phrase “But earnestly desire the best gifts” from 1 Corinthians 12:31 implies to be desirous of being of “best use” or as much use as possible in the Church of God. Contrary to popular interpretation and misuse, as is done by those who teach wrong doctrines and false teachings about the Holy Spirit, this phrase and this verse is not meant to say that any gift is greater or lesser than another, and Believers should strive to have their gifts changed or to obtain a particular gift. Take note of another thing about this verse, it says, “desire the best gifts;” but it is neither said not implied here that by doing so the Holy Spirit will alter the Believer’s gifts according to their desire – as those who preach and teach wrong things about the Holy Spirit wrongly imply, and misuse this verse for.

    From today we will see in a little more detail about the Spiritual gifts mentioned in the 5 verses, 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Take note that in these verses, along with the names of the gifts, the phrase “to one/to another…” has also been added. In other words, all the gifts have not been given to any one person, nor has one particular gift been given to all the persons; but according to their work and ministry, different people have been given different gifts. Therefore, no one should have any ill-feelings or jealousy about another’s gifts. Besides the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned over here, some other gifts have also been mentioned in the other books of the Bible. But for now, we will concentrate upon only 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, where in these 5 verses, 9 different gifts have been mentioned. The gifts mentioned are: “word of wisdom,” “word of knowledge,” “faith,” “healing,” “miracles,” “prophecy,” “discerning of spirits,” “different kinds of tongues,” and “interpretation of tongue.” This section starts with the caution that all the gifts are given by the Holy Spirit for the benefit of all (verse 7) and concludes with the caution that these gifts are given as the Holy Spirit decides and are to be used as the Holy Spirit instructs (verse 11). In other words, everything related to the Spiritual gifts - their purpose, the ability to use them, who is to receive which gift, etc., are all completely controlled by the Holy Spirit; all these gifts are from Him and by Him. No man has any role or interference in this, as has been made clear in the immediately preceding section of verses 4-6.

    A very important things has been stated in verse 7 of this chapter, prior to mentioning the spiritual gifts, over which most people do not usually pay any attention is, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all” (1 Corinthians 12:7). In some earlier articles, while looking at and understanding how God works, we have seen that our Father God works for the benefit of everyone, and the blessings He gives are not for any person’s personal use and benefit, but for the benefit and growth of everyone through that person. This same thing is stated here in verse 7. The Holy Spirit is getting it written beforehand that whatever spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit, they are all for the benefit and growth of everyone in the Church. This is then repeated and re-affirmed in 1 Corinthians 14:12 “Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.” Although this statement has been made in context of speaking in ‘tongues’ i.e., other languages, yet what is important to note is that it has been emphatically repeated that the Church should benefit and grow through the use of spiritual gifts. Also, 1 Corinthians 14:2-5 make it clear that speaking in ‘tongues’, i.e., other earthly languages should be for the benefit of the Church; it is not meant for anyone’s personal use or benefit. Although it is not a part of our current discussion, but in context of what is being said here, it is very important to say and understand that what the Bible mentions as ‘tongues,’ are known, spoken, and understood languages of this world; languages that have their own names and are spoken by people living in various geographical areas of this world, and which can be translated from one to another. Those who preach, teach and spread wrong doctrines and false teachings in the name of, and about the Holy Spirit say and teach that these are extra-terrestrial languages, but there is no support for this from the Bible. Read carefully and prayerfully 1 Corinthians 14 chapter, and the truth about this will readily become apparent. From the next article we will see a few things about each of the aforementioned 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit.

    नया-जन्म पाए हुए मसीही विश्वासियों के, परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए प्रावधानों और विशेषाधिकारों का भण्डारी होने का अध्ययन करते हुए, वर्तमान में हम विश्वासियों के पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा उन्हें दिए गए वरदानों का भण्डारी होने के बारे में सीख रहे हैं। ये वरदान विश्वासियों को मसीही जीवन जीने और परमेश्वर द्वारा उन्हें सौंपी गई सेवकाइयों का उचित निर्वाह करने के लिए दिए गए हैं। हम देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर द्वारा सौंपी गई सभी सेवकाइयाँ और पवित्र आत्मा के सभी वरदान समान स्तर के ही हैं; कोई भी किसी भी अन्य से ‘छोटा’ नहीं है। परमेश्वर द्वारा दी गई सेवकाइयों और उन से सम्बन्धित पवित्र आत्मा के वरदानों को ‘कमतर’ या ‘बेहतर’ देखना अथवा समझना शैतान की एक ऐसी युक्ति में फँसना है जो परमेश्वर के चरित्र और गुणों पर ही हमला करती है। हम यह भी देख चुके हैं कि परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा ही, और केवल वह ही है जो यह निर्धारित करता है कि किसे कौन सा वरदान दिया जाना है। शैतान ने कुछ लोगों के द्वारा 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 की गलत व्याख्या और दुरुपयोग करवा के यह प्रचार और शिक्षा फैला रखी है कि ‘बड़े से बड़े’ वरदानों की भी एक श्रेणी है और विश्वासियों को उनकी लालसा करने और उन्हें प्राप्त करने में लगे रहना चाहिए। इसके द्वारा शैतान ने बहुतेरों को उनकी सेवकाई में लगे रहने के स्थान पर, व्यर्थ बातों में लगे रहने में फँसा दिया है। इस पद को उसके सन्दर्भ में देखने के द्वार हमने इस धारणा के गलत होने को समझा था; और हमने यह भी देखा था कि ‘बड़े’ वरदान से तात्पर्य उन वरदानों से है जो कलीसिया या विश्वासियों की मण्डली में सर्वाधिक उपयोग होते हैं, अर्थात, यह पद वास्तव में जो कह रहा है वह है कि विश्वासियों को वह लोग होने की लालसा करनी चाहिए जो कलीसिया और मण्डली के लोगों के मध्य सेवा के लिए सर्वाधिक उपयोग किए जाते हैं। आज हम इसी के बारे में और आगे देखेंगे, और ‘बड़े’ वरदानों की इस समझ की एक और पुष्टि उस के सन्दर्भ से सम्बन्धित एक अन्य पद के द्वारा देखेंगे।

    आत्मिक वरदानों के प्रयोग से संबंधित इस अध्याय का एक और महत्वपूर्ण पद है “और परमेश्वर ने कलीसिया में अलग अलग व्यक्ति नियुक्त किए हैं; प्रथम प्रेरित, दूसरे भविष्यद्वक्ता, तीसरे शिक्षक, फिर सामर्थ्य के काम करने वाले, फिर चंगा करने वाले, और उपकार करने वाले, और प्रधान, और नाना प्रकार की भाषा बोलने वाले” (1 कुरिन्थियों 12:28), और यहाँ पर आत्मिक वरदानों का प्रयोग करने वालों को पवित्र आत्मा ने एक क्रम-संख्या के साथ, एक निर्धारित वरीयता-क्रम के अनुसार लिखवाया है। रोचक बात है कि पवित्र आत्मा के नाम से गलत शिक्षाएं देने वालों में सर्वाधिक प्रचलित और माँग किया जाने वाला वरदान - अन्य भाषा बोलना, यहाँ दिए गए क्रम में सबसे अंत में रखा गया है; अर्थात कलीसिया में इस वरदान का तुलनात्मक रीति से स्थान बहुत बाद में, अंत में आता है। यह नहीं कि यह वरदान कम महत्वपूर्ण है या छोटा अथवा गौण है, वरन इसलिए क्योंकि किसी भी स्थानीय मण्डली के कार्यों में इसकी उपयोग किया जाना अन्यों की तुलना में उतना अधिक नहीं है - क्योंकि इसका उपयोग तब ही होगा जब कोई ऐसा परदेशी प्रचारक, जो स्थानीय भाषा नहीं जानता है, आए और वचन की सेवकाई करे; तब ही उस भाषा को जानने वाला अनुवाद करने के लिए उपयोग में आएगा; किन्तु तब उस स्थिति में, जिसके पास उस भाषा का यह वरदान है उसका बहुत महत्व और उपयोगिता होगी। अन्यथा मण्डली के प्रतिदिन के सामान्य कार्यों के लिए इस वरदान की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। 

    इस वरदान से ठीक पहले, अर्थात वरदानों के क्रम में अंत की ओर, एक और ऐसा वरदान है, सामान्यतः मनुष्य जिसकी आज बहुत लालसा रखते हैं, जिसे प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं - “प्रधान” (अँग्रेज़ी में administrations) होना, अर्थात कलीसिया या मण्डली में, कार्यों को नियोजित करने और प्रबंधन करने का स्थान। आज इसे औरों पर अधिकार रखने और अधिकार दिखाने, अपने आप को ऊंचा और दूसरों को नियंत्रित कर सकने वाला दिखाने के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है। किन्तु उपयोगिता के दृष्टिकोण से इस वरदान की वरीयता भी अन्य की तुलना में अंत की ओर ही है। ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि उस आरंभिक मसीही मण्डली के समय में लोग प्रभु यीशु मसीह की शिक्षाओं को गंभीरता से लेते और उनका पालन करते थे। प्रभु यीशु ने अपने शिष्यों से कहा था, “तब उसने बैठकर बारहों को बुलाया, और उन से कहा, यदि कोई बड़ा होना चाहे, तो सब से छोटा और सब का सेवक बने” (मरकुस 9:35)। इसलिए उस पहली कलीसिया के समय में “प्रधान” (या administrator) होने का तात्पर्य था वास्तव में सब से छोटा होना और सब का सेवक होना, जो इस वरदान और कार्य से संबंधित आज के व्यवहार के बिलकुल विपरीत है; इसलिए उस समय इसके लिए कोई होड़ भी नहीं रहती थी।

    उपयोगिता के अनुसार दिए गए वरीयता के क्रम के मध्य में “सामर्थ्य के काम करने वाले, फिर चंगा करने वाले, और उपकार करने वाले” दिए गए हैं। किन्तु प्राथमिक स्थान वचन की सेवकाई से संबंधित काम करने वालों का है “प्रथम प्रेरित, दूसरे भविष्यद्वक्ता, तीसरे शिक्षक”; अर्थात, परमेश्वर के दृष्टिकोण से, मण्डली के कार्यों और सेवकाई के लिए, मण्डली की उन्नति के लिए सबसे अधिक उपयोगिता परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई करने वालों, वचन को ठीक से सिखाने और समझाने वालों की है। यह 1 कुरिन्थियों 12:31 के प्रति एक और दृष्टिकोण प्रदान करता है, जिसका बहुधा ‘बड़े से बड़े वरदानों की लालसा करो’ सिखाने के लिए दुरुपयोग किया जाता है। हम पहले देख चुके हैं कि इसका वास्तविक अर्थ है कलीसिया या मण्डली में सर्वाधिक उपयोग होने वाले बनो। अब हम और बेहतर समझ सकते हैं कि ये ‘बड़े से बड़े वरदान’ ‘अन्य भाषा बोलना,’ या ‘आश्चर्यकर्म करना’ नहीं हैं, वरन परमेश्वर के वचन की सेवकाई से सम्बन्धित कार्यों में लगे रहना हैं। इन प्राथमिक महत्व की सेवकाइयों के वरदानों के उचित निर्वाह के लिए व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर के वचन के साथ और प्रार्थना में समय बिताना होता है, न कि दूसरों पर अधिकार जमाने और अधिकार दिखाने में लगे रहना होता है। प्रेरितों 6:1-7 में आरंभिक मण्डली की एक घटना दी गई है, जो मण्डली में विवाद और मतभेद का कारण बन रही थी। किन्तु प्रेरितों ने उसके कारण प्रार्थना और वचन की सेवा करने के महत्व के साथ कोई समझौता नहीं किया; उन्होंने कलीसिया के ‘प्रधान’ होने की ज़िम्मेदारी अपने ऊपर नहीं ले ली, वरन उसे औरों को दे दिया। नि:सन्देह, उन्होंने समस्या को सुलझाने के लिए समाधान बताया, किन्तु अपनी सेवकाई की थोड़े समय के लिए भी अनदेखी नहीं की, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप “परमेश्वर का वचन फैलता गया और यरूशलेम में चेलों की गिनती बहुत बढ़ती गई; और याजकों का एक बड़ा समाज इस मत के आधीन हो गया” (प्रेरितों 6:7)। 

    यदि आप मसीही विश्वासी हैं तो, आपकी प्राथमिकताएं क्या हैं? क्या परमेश्वर के वचन में दृढ़ और स्थापित होना, उसे दूसरों तक उसके सही स्वरूप में पहुँचाना आपकी इच्छा और प्राथमिकता है, या आप भी दिखने में बहुत प्रभावी किन्तु मण्डली के लिए उपयोगिता में कम वरीयता रखने वाली बातों के पीछे पड़े हैं? अपनी सेवकाई और अपने वरदान को पहचानिए; प्रभु के लिए उपयोगी बनिए। 

    यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी प्रभु यीशु के पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु, मैं अपने पापों के लिए पश्चातापी हूँ, उनके लिए आप से क्षमा माँगता हूँ। मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मुझे और मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Understanding Earnestly Desire the “Best Gifts” – 3

 

    In studying are the stewardship of Born-Again Christian Believers towards their God given provisions and privileges, we are presently considering the Believer’s being stewards of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, given to them to live their Christian lives and worthily fulfill their God assigned ministries. We have seen that all the God given ministries and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are equal; none is lesser in any way from another. Looking upon God assigned ministries and their related gifts of the Holy Spirit as ‘lesser’ or ‘better’ than another is to fall into a satanic error that attacks the very characteristics and attributes of God. We have also seen that it is God the Holy Spirit, and He alone, who decides which gifts to give to whom; neither does any one person have every one of the spiritual gifts, nor has one particular gift been given to everyone. Through misinterpretation and misuse of 1 Corinthians 12:31, Satan has made some people preach and teach that there is a category of gifts referred to as ‘best gifts’ and the Believers should be engaged in desiring them and acquiring them. Through this, Satan has deviated many into vain efforts, instead of being engaged in fulfilling their ministries. Through looking at this verse in its context, we seen the fallacy of this notion; and we have seen that the ‘best gifts’ refers to gifts most often utilized in the Church and amongst Believers, therefore, what this verse is actually saying is the Believers should desire to be one of those who are utilized most often in the services and utilities of the Church amongst the congregation. Today we will further look at this and see another confirmation of this meaning of ‘best gifts’ through another contextual verse.

    There is another important verse in this chapter, related to the utility and using of the Spiritual gifts: “And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues” (1 Corinthians 12:28). In this verse, the Holy Spirit has sequentially written down the various ministries for utilizing the Spiritual gifts, with a serial number, placing them in a sequential order. It is interesting to note from this list of the Holy Spirit, the most popular gift, and the gift most in demand by those who spread wrong doctrines and false teachings about the Holy Spirit, i.e., speaking in ‘tongues,’ has been placed as the last gift. In other words, in a comparative manner, this gift is of the least utility in the Church. This is not to say that this gift is less important or lesser than the rest, but in order of frequency of its use, in its utility in any Church, it is not used as frequently as the others. This is because this gift will only be used when some outside preacher who does not know the local language comes, and is used for the Word Ministry; it will only be in such a situation that the one who has this gift of that language will be utilized, not otherwise; but then in that particular situation, the one with this gift will be very important and useful. Otherwise, in the day-to-day functioning of the local assembly or Church, this gift of ‘tongues’ has no use.

    Another thing to note is that towards the end of this list of Spiritual gifts, as the second-last gift is another Spiritual gift that generally speaking most members of the Church often desire and want to have - the gift of “administrations”; i.e., the position and status in the Church or congregation to decide and manage the Church. Today, this is seen as something that enables a person to have control or authority over others, and is often used to show-off as being superior to others, as one who has charge over others. But from the point of view of utility or frequency of use, the sequential position of this gift is also towards the end, i.e., this Spiritual gift is also one of the least used ones. This is because in those initial Church congregations, the people took the teachings and instructions of the Lord Jesus very seriously, and diligently followed them. Their priority was not “administering” the Church, but preaching the Gospel to the ends of the earth at any cost (Acts 1:8; 8:4; 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10). The Lord Jesus had told His disciples, “And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all"” (Mark 9:35). Therefore, in those initial Church congregations, to be an “administrator” meant to be least of all and a servant of others; which is absolutely the opposite of what this gift is seen and used as, and therefore so earnestly desired.

    In the middle of this verse, in order of utility and use, the gifts mentioned are “miracles, then gifts of healings, helps.” But the first three positions, i.e., the gifts most in use in the Church are those related to the Word Ministry, “first apostles, second prophets, third teachers.” In other words, from God’s perspective, for the work and ministry of the Church, for the growth and benefit of the Church, the most useful, the best ministry is of those who can teach and preach the Word of God to the congregation. This also gives another perspective to 1 Corinthians 12:31, often misused for saying “desire the best gifts.” We have seen earlier that it is meant to say desire to have the gifts for the best utilization in the Church. Now we can better understand what those “best gifts” are - not the ‘speaking in tongues’, or the gift of doing miracles, but the gifts of being engaged in the ministry of God’s Word. To be diligent in ministering these primary gifts requires that a person be continually engaged in studying God’s Word and in prayers, instead of showing off to people and exercising authority over them. In Acts 6:1-7 an incident of the initial Church is recorded, which became a cause for contention in the congregation. But because of that, the Apostles did not compromise on their ministry of prayers and study of God’s Word, did not take up “administration” of the Church, but gave it to others. They did guide and show the way and the solution, but did not neglect their own ministry even for a short while. The result was that “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith” (Acts 6:7).

    If you are a Christian Believer, then what are your priorities? Is being strong and established in the Word of God, taking God’s Word in its true form, with its correct interpretation to others, spreading the Gospel, your desire and priority? Or, you too are desirous of the seemingly impressive Spiritual gifts, that are actually very low down in their utility in the Church? Recognize your ministry and put to use your gift; become useful for the Lord God.

    If you have not yet accepted the discipleship of the Lord, make your decision in favor of the Lord Jesus now to ensure your eternal life and heavenly blessings. Where there is obedience to the Lord, where there is respect and obedience to His Word, there is also the blessing and protection of the Lord. Repenting of your sins, and asking the Lord Jesus for forgiveness of your sins, voluntarily and sincerely, surrendering yourself to Him - is the only way to salvation and heavenly life. You only have to say a short but sincere prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ willingly and with a penitent heart, and at the same time completely commit and submit your life to Him. You can also make this prayer and submission in words something like, “Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sins and repent of them. I thank you for taking my sins upon yourself, paying for them through your life.  Because of them you died on the cross in my place, were buried, and you rose again from the grave on the third day for my salvation, and today you are the living Lord God and have freely provided to me the forgiveness, and redemption from my sins, through faith in you. Please forgive my sins, take me under your care, and make me your disciple. I submit my life into your hands." Your one prayer from a sincere and committed heart will make your present and future life, in this world and in the hereafter, heavenly and blessed for eternity.
