पुनःअवलोकन और सारांश - (4) - पवित्र आत्मा की कार्य-विधि
पिछले लेख में हमने देखा था कि मसीही की सेवकाई में, परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों, अर्थात मसीही विश्वासियों को तैयार करके, फिर उनमें होकर अपने कार्य और सामर्थ्य को प्रकट करता है; उनमें होकर संसार के लोगों के समक्ष मसीही जीवन के उदाहरण तथा शिक्षाओं को रखता है। यूहन्ना 16:8 में पवित्र आत्मा ने समस्याएं उत्पन्न करने वाली तीन बातें लिखवाई हैं, जिनके विषय वह प्रभु यीशु के शिष्यों में होकर संसार को दोषी ठहराता है। समस्या वाली ये तीन बातें हैं - पाप, धार्मिकता, और न्याय। सारे संसार के विभिन्न लोगों और धर्मों के निर्वाह, रीति-रिवाजों की पूर्ति, अनुष्ठानों के किए जाने, धार्मिक शिक्षाओं, और भले व्यवहार तथा भले कार्यों पर दिए जा रहे महत्व आदि के बावजूद, संसार के लोगों में से इन तीनों समस्याओं को मिटा पाना तो दूर, कम कर पाना या दबा पाना भी संभव नहीं होने पाया है, वरन सभी स्थानों पर, इनके विषय स्थिति सुधारने की बजाए और बिगड़ती ही जा रही है। यही अपने आप में एक जग-विदित प्रमाण है कि धर्म-कर्म-रस्म का निर्वाह इस समस्या का समाधान नहीं है। परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, प्रभु यीशु मसीह के शिष्यों के परिवर्तित जीवन और व्यवहार में होकर संसार के लोगों को इन बातों के विषय दोषी ठहराता है - प्रभु के वास्तविक और सच्चे शिष्यों के जीवनों से तुलना के द्वारा संसार के लोगों को उनकी वास्तविक दशा दिखाता है।
हम संक्षेप में इन तीनों मूल समस्याओं को देखते हैं:
पाप: संक्षेप में, परमेश्वर के वचन बाइबल के अनुसार, पाप, मन-ध्यान-विचार-व्यवहार में किया गया परमेश्वर की आज्ञाओं और निर्देशों का उल्लंघन अथवा अवहेलना है (1 यूहन्ना 3:4)। हमारे आदि माता-पिता, आदम और हव्वा के द्वारा किए गए प्रथम पाप के साथ ही पाप ने सृष्टि में प्रवेश किया, और आदम की संतानों में फैल गया (रोमियों 5:12-14)। मनुष्यों में आनुवंशिक रीति से विद्यमान पाप करने की इस प्रवृत्ति का निवारण और समाधान, उस व्यक्ति द्वारा किए गए अपने पापों के अंगीकार तथा उन से पश्चाताप, प्रभु यीशु मसीह द्वारा मिली पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार, तथा उसे स्वेच्छा से अपना जीवन समर्पण करने वाले व्यक्ति में प्रभु के द्वारा किया गया मन-ध्यान-विचार और व्यवहार में आधारभूत परिवर्तन, के द्वारा होता है। पाप और उसके निवारण तथा समाधान के विषय दी गई शिक्षाओं पर एक विस्तृत चर्चा पहले प्रस्तुत की जा चुकी है; इस विस्तृत चर्चा की शृंखला का आरंभ इस लेख के साथ हुआ था : “बाइबल, पाप और उद्धार – 1”
धार्मिकता: मूल यूनानी भाषा के लेख में जिस शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसे यहाँ ‘धार्मिकता’ अनुवाद किया गया है, उसका अर्थ होता है चरित्र एवं व्यवहार में दोष रहित होना। अर्थात, यहाँ पर धार्मिकता का अर्थ धार्मिक बातों, प्रथाओं, और रीति-रिवाजों का निर्वाह तथा धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों की पूर्ति के आधार पर व्यक्ति का ‘धर्मी’ समझा जाना नहीं है, वरन उसके मन-ध्यान-विचार-व्यवहार में परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में तथा उसके मानकों के आधार पर दोष रहित होना है। यह मन परिवर्तन मनुष्य अपने किसी धर्म के कामों से नहीं करने पाता है, नहीं तो संसार भर में इतने धर्मों और धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों, और कार्यों के द्वारा, अब तक संसार से पाप की समस्या कब की मिट चुकी होती। यह मन परिवर्तन केवल प्रभु यीशु मसीह में लाए गए विश्वास और पापों के पश्चाताप के द्वारा ही संभव है। प्रभु यीशु मसीह पर विश्वास लाना, और ईसाई धर्म का निर्वाह करना, दो बिलकुल भिन्न बातें हैं; और ईसाई धर्म का निर्वाह व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में धर्मी नहीं बनाता है। व्यक्ति किसी भी धर्म को माने, किसी भी परिवार में जन्म ले, सभी के लिए, ईसाई धर्म का निर्वाह करने वालों के लिए भी, परमेश्वर की आज्ञा अपने पापों से पश्चाताप करने की है (प्रेरितों 17:30-31)। सच्चे और वास्तविक मसीही विश्वासी के जीवन जीने वालों में, और संसार के मानकों के अनुसार “धर्म” का जीवन जीने वालों में परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा “धार्मिकता” की यह तुलना प्रस्तुत करता है। मसीही विश्वास की धार्मिकता की तुलना में, सांसारिक की गढ़ी हुई धार्मिकता के विषय सांसारिक लोगों को दोषी ठहराता है।
न्याय: मूल यूनानी भाषा के जिस शब्द का अनुवाद यहाँ ‘न्याय’ किया गया है, उसका अर्थ होता है सही ‘पहचान करना’ या ‘निर्णय लेना’। इस शब्द का प्रयोग और अर्थ सही पहचान करने, परिस्थितियों का सही विश्लेषण करने, या व्यक्तियों का सही आँकलन करने और उनके विषय सही निर्णय करने, आदि के लिए भी किया जाता है, केवल सामान्य अभिप्राय, वैधानिक या कानूनी न्याय करना, यानि कि उनके अपराधों के लिए लोगों को दोषी ठहराना और दण्ड देना ही नहीं। यूहन्ना 16:11 में पवित्र आत्मा द्वारा करवाए गए ‘न्याय’ और “संसार का सरदार” अर्थात शैतान के ‘न्याय’ के मध्य एक तुलना (contrast) रखी गई है। अर्थात, दोनों के ‘न्याय’ करने, यानि कि सही निर्णय देने, या सही पहचान, अथवा आँकलन करने में भिन्नता है। और परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा, मसीही विश्वासियों में होकर बिलकुल सटीक, सही, और पक्षपात रहित न्याय, उचित व्यवहार, या निर्णय करवाने के द्वारा, ऐसे उदाहरण प्रस्तुत करेगा जो संसार के लोगों द्वारा सांसारिक विचार और व्यवहार के अनुसार, “संसार के सरदार” के प्रभाव में होकर किए जाने वाले अनुचित एवं अपूर्ण न्याय, या निर्णय के बारे में उनको दोषी ठहराएंगे। एकमात्र सच्चे और जीवते प्रभु परमेश्वर का न्याय सदा सच्चा, खरा, और पक्षपात रहित होता है। निष्कर्ष यह कि मसीही विश्वास में आने के द्वारा व्यक्ति के मन, जीवन, विचार, और व्यवहार में जो परिवर्तन आता है, वह उसे परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की अधीनता में खरा और सच्चा न्याय करने, या जाँच-परख करने, या सही आँकलन करके पक्षपात रहित निर्णय करने वाला बना देता है। उसका यह बदला हुआ व्यवहार, उसमें परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा की उपस्थिति का प्रमाण है। साथ ही उसका इस प्रकार का जीवन, पाप और पापमय प्रवृत्तियों तथा विचारधाराओं में रहने वाले, “संसार के सरदार” के प्रभाव में होकर कार्य करने वाले लोगों के समक्ष एक तुलना (contrast) रखता है, और उन्हें उनके अनुचित न्याय, व्यवहार, और विचार के लिए दोषी ठहराता है।
परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा मसीही विश्वासियों में आडंबर, नाटकीय व्यवहार, करिश्माई दावे करने, और शारीरिक एवं सांसारिक लाभ देने के लिए आकर निवास नहीं करता है। वरन उसका उद्देश्य मसीही विश्वासियों में होकर प्रभु यीशु में पापों की क्षमा और उद्धार की गवाही देना, तथा संसार के लोगों को उनके दोषों के विषय कायल करना है। यदि आप एक मसीही विश्वासी हैं, तो यूहन्ना 16:8-11 के समक्ष आपका जीवन कैसा है? यदि आप अभी इन पदों के समक्ष अपने आप को दोषी पाते हैं, तो फिर आपको 2 कुरिन्थियों 13:5 के अनुसार अपने आप को और अपने मसीही विश्वास में होने के दावे का पुनः अवलोकन करने, अपने मसीही विश्वासी होने की समीक्षा करने की आवश्यकता है। मसीही विश्वासी होने के नाते, आप में विद्यमान परमेश्वर पवित्र आत्मा आपको पाप करने या पाप में बने नहीं रहने देगा; आपको मनुष्य और संसार के लोगों के अनुसार नहीं वरन परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में और उसके मानकों के आधार पर धार्मिकता का जीवन जीने के लिए प्रेरित करेगा; तथा संसार के लोगों के समान अनुचित न्याय अथवा लोगों और परिस्थितियों का आँकलन नहीं करने देगा। आप जब भी ऐसा करेंगे, वह आपके जीवन में खलबली उत्पन्न करेगा, आपके जीवन में तब तक बेचैनी रहेगी जब तक आप अपने इस गलत व्यवहार को सही नहीं कर लेंगे। और यदि आप फिर भी ढिठाई में ऐसे व्यवहार में बने रहेंगे, जो एक मसीही विश्वासी के लिए सही नहीं है, तो आपको ताड़ना में से भी होकर निकलना पड़ेगा, जिससे आप सुधारे जा सकें (इब्रानियों 12:5-11)।
यदि आपने प्रभु की शिष्यता को अभी तक स्वीकार नहीं किया है, तो अपने अनन्त जीवन और स्वर्गीय आशीषों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अभी उसके पक्ष में अपना निर्णय कर लीजिए। जहाँ प्रभु की आज्ञाकारिता है, उसके वचन की बातों का आदर और पालन है, वहाँ प्रभु की आशीष और सुरक्षा भी है। प्रभु यीशु से अपने पापों के लिए क्षमा माँगकर, स्वेच्छा से तथा सच्चे मन से अपने आप को उसकी अधीनता में समर्पित कर दीजिए - उद्धार और स्वर्गीय जीवन का यही एकमात्र मार्ग है। आपको स्वेच्छा और सच्चे मन से प्रभु यीशु मसीह से केवल एक छोटी प्रार्थना करनी है, और साथ ही अपना जीवन उसे पूर्णतः समर्पित करना है। आप यह प्रार्थना और समर्पण कुछ इस प्रकार से भी कर सकते हैं, “प्रभु यीशु मैं आपका धन्यवाद करता हूँ कि आपने मेरे पापों की क्षमा और समाधान के लिए उन पापों को अपने ऊपर लिया, उनके कारण मेरे स्थान पर क्रूस की मृत्यु सही, गाड़े गए, और मेरे उद्धार के लिए आप तीसरे दिन जी भी उठे, और आज जीवित प्रभु परमेश्वर हैं। कृपया मेरे पापों को क्षमा करें, मुझे अपनी शरण में लें, और मुझे अपना शिष्य बना लें। मैं अपना जीवन आप के हाथों में समर्पित करता हूँ।” सच्चे और समर्पित मन से की गई आपकी एक प्रार्थना आपके वर्तमान तथा भविष्य को, इस लोक के और परलोक के जीवन को, अनन्तकाल के लिए स्वर्गीय एवं आशीषित बना देगी।

Recapitulation and Summary - (4) – His Working Methods
We had seen in the previous article that God the Holy Spirit prepares the disciples of Christ, i.e., the Christian Believers for the Christian Ministry and through them He exhibits His works and power; through them He places before the people of the world teachings and examples of Christian living. In John 16:8, the Holy Spirit had three problematic things written down, about which He convicts the world through the disciples of the Lord Jesus. These three things that are at the root of all problems are sin, righteousness, and judgment. Today, all over the world, despite the people following so many religions, fulfilling the religious rites, rituals, ceremonies, adhering to religious teachings, and giving emphasis to good behavior and good works, it has not been possible to even decrease or suppress, let alone eliminate, these three problematic things; rather instead of improving, the situation regarding these three things is only going from bad to worse, everywhere. This by itself is an evident proof, the world over, that religion, religious works and rituals are not the answer to these problems. God the Holy Spirit, through the changed life and behavior of the disciples of the Lord Jesus, convicts the people of the world about these three things, by presenting a contrast to the people of the world through the lives of the truly Born-Again Christian Believers, the actual disciples of the Lord Jesus.
Let us briefly consider these three root problems:
Sin: According to the Word of God, sin is the disobedience, or ignoring of God’s commandments and instructions (1 John 3:4). Sin entered creation through the first sin committed by our fore-parents, Adam and Eve, and spread to the children (Romans 5:12-14). The only solution to the problem of the hereditary tendency to sin present in every person is for every person to willingly and voluntarily confess their sins, repent of them, ask forgiveness for them from the Lord Jesus, and surrender their life to the Lord Jesus. Receiving this forgiveness of sins and being delivered from their consequences by the grace of the Lord is being saved, or, being Born-Again from the temporal into the eternal spiritual life; and it brings fundamental changes in the life, mind, behavior, desires, and thoughts of the person. A detailed discussion about sin and its solution has already been given in earlier articles, and can be studied starting with the article “The Bible, Sin, and Salvation – 1”.
Righteousness: The word used in the original Greek language, and translated here as “righteousness” means to be without guilt or fault in character and behavior. In other words, the use of the word “righteousness” over here is not regarding following and fulfilling religious activities, rituals, ceremonies, and persons being considered “righteous” on that basis. Rather, it is being “righteous” in the eyes of God, based upon His standards and through His perspective; being faultless and guiltless in life, mind, thoughts, behavior etc. in God’s eyes. No person is able to achieve this change of life, mind, thoughts, behavior by any religion or any of his religious works and rituals, else this problem would have been solved and eliminated long back. Bringing about this change is only possible by repentance of sins and coming into faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Coming into faith in Lord Jesus Christ, and following the Christian religion and fulfilling its obligations are two altogether different things; and following the Christian religion does not make anyone “righteous” in the eyes of God. Irrespective of the religion a person believes in and follows, irrespective of the family a person is born in. For every person, even for those who follow the Christian religion, God’s commandment is to repent of their sins (Acts 17:30-31). God the Holy Spirit presents a contrast before the world between the lives of those living by a religion - any religion, and those who live a life surrendered to and obedient to the Lord Jesus, and thereby convicts the world of their contrived “righteousness”, according to their own standards by their own methods.
Judgment: The word translated as “judgment” here, in the original Greek language, is a word that means to “identify” and/or to “decide” correctly. In the Greek language, this word is used to also denote proper discernment, assessing and analyzing situations or people correctly, and then take a right decision about them, besides it's generally implied judicial use of deciding on a person being guilty of some offense, and punishing him for the offense. In John 16:11, a contrast has been placed between the “judgment” done through the Holy Spirit and between that done by “the prince of this world” i.e., the devil. The implication is that there is a world of a difference between the “judgment,” i.e., proper discernment, correct assessment and evaluation, and taking the right decision, when functioning under the Holy Spirit than under the systems of the world. God the Holy Spirit, through the Christian Believers, gives a proper, correct, impartial, and appropriate decision; the “judgments” or decisions arrived at under His guidance will place a contrast to the faulty, inappropriate, and biased “judgments” by the people of the world under the guidance of “the prince of this world.” The judgment of the one and only living and true Lord God will always be honest, true, impartial. The conclusion is that the changes that come in the life, mind, thoughts, and behavior of a person after he comes into the Christian Faith, give him the power and ability to take honest, true, impartial decisions. His changed life and behavior is a proof of the presence of the Holy Spirit residing in him. Also, a Christian Believer’s life lived under the guidance and obedience to the Holy Spirit, presents a contrast to those who live, think, and act in sinful manner, under “the prince of this world,” and convicts them of their biased and faulty judgements and behavior.
God the Holy Spirit does not come to reside in any person to enable him to exhibit dramatic behavior, make charismatic claims, live a hypocritical life, assure people of worldly and temporal gains and physical healings, to attract people and to use them for selfish gains and motives. Instead, His intention is to empower the Christian Believers to testify of the Lord Jesus, and to preach and propagate the gospel of salvation and forgiveness of sins through coming into faith in the Lord Jesus; and to convict the people of the world about their sins and wrong-doings. If you are a Christian Believer, then how does your life stand up to John 16:8-11? If you find yourself guilty before these verses, then in accordance with 2 Corinthians 13:5, you need to review and re-evaluate your claim of being a Christian Believer. If you are a Christian Believer, then the Holy Spirit of God residing in you will not let you sin or remain in sin; He will prod and provoke you to live not according to the ways and standards of the world, but to live and behave according to the ways and standards of God. He will not let you come to biased conclusions and inappropriate decisions like the people of the world do. Whenever you try to live and act like the world, He will make you restless, create some disturbance or the other in your life, not let you have God’s peace till you rectify your behavior and come out of the wrong “judgment.” But if you obstinately persist in wrong living and behavior, then you will also be made to suffer chastisement, so that you should be corrected (Hebrews 12:5-11).
If you are still thinking of yourself as being a Christian, because of being born in a particular family and having fulfilled the religious rites and rituals prescribed under your religion or denomination since your childhood, then you too need to come out of your misunderstanding of Biblical facts and start understanding and living according to what the Word of God says, instead of what any denominational creed says or teaches. Make the necessary corrections in your life now while you have the time and opportunity; lest by the time you realize your mistake, it is too late to do anything about it.
If you are still not Born Again, have not obtained salvation, or have not asked the Lord Jesus for forgiveness for your sins, then you have the opportunity to do so right now. A short prayer said voluntarily with a sincere heart, with heartfelt repentance for your sins, and a fully submissive attitude, “Lord Jesus, I confess that I have disobeyed You, and have knowingly or unknowingly, in mind, in thought, in attitude, and in deeds, committed sins. I believe that you have fully borne the punishment of my sins by your sacrifice on the cross, and have paid the full price of those sins for all eternity. Please forgive my sins, change my heart and mind towards you, and make me your disciple, take me with you." God longs for your company and wants to see you blessed, but to make this possible, is your personal decision. Will you not say this prayer now, while you have the time and opportunity to do so - the decision is yours.
